The USS Enterprise is ordered to Sansora, a new United Federation of Planets member. The mission is simple; help the Sansorans during their transition to the Federation. It was supposed to be a routine mission. However, the mission doesn't go at all as planned and in fact, as Jim, Spock, Bones and Uhura find out, it isn't the piece of cake Star Fleet thought it would be.

Capt. John Harriman and the crew of the Enterprise-B have been sent to Ekos and Zeon. The Nazis' star is collapsing and no one knows why. Aboard the Enterprise two specialists from the original Enterprise under Kirk's command accompany the mission. As does one Dr. Tolian Soran, who'd last been aboard when the crew pulled him from the grip of the Nexus.

A late night comm call declares a family emergency. Spock receives an urgent request to return home. When he returns, bringing Kirk and Bones, what will they find? Is Amanda ill? Is it Sarek's heart again? And what is that crying noise in the background?
