Finn and Aveline took one last look at the empty apartment. They had built a life there and now there were leaving it.
"Ready?" He asked.
"I'm so ready," she answered.
They locked the door and got out in the cab. They no longer owned a car. It had been sold along with all their furniture. The cab driver took them to their landlord first where they handed the keys back.
"Do you wanna stop by your mom first? We have time," he said.
"No, I don't ever wanna see her again," she said.
"Okay, to the airport then," he said.
The cab driver took them to the airport. They got their luggage from the trunk and walked inside. They got their luggage checked in and went to sit in a café with a cup of coffee each.
"There's not a lot of people this early," she said.
"That's nice though," he said.
"I agree," she said.
She took out her phone and turned it around in her hands.
"Mom said they already bought two new phones for us," he said.
"That's very sweet of them," she said.
He took out his phone as well. The last piece of America he had on him.
"Once we land, we can just throw these away," he said.
"New beginnings," she said. "I'm nervous."
"That's okay. I'm right here with you for this crazy ride," he said.
"I think I need to call her," she said.
"You gotta do what feels right for you," he said.
"She doesn't even deserve a phone call but I can't just leave without telling her," she said.
She dialed her mother's number. Victoria picked up on the third ring.
"Why the fuck do you wake me up this early?" Victoria asked.
"Why can't you say hello like a normal person?" Aveline asked.
"Just tell me what you want," Victoria said. "Couldn't it have waited until later when you stop by?"
"I'm not stopping by," Aveline said.
There was a small pause on Victoria's end, and then her voice rose in volume. Clearly she was fully awake now.
"What the fuck is that supposed to mean?" Victoria asked angrily.
"No more, Victoria," Aveline said. "There's no more money or visits or anything coming your way."
"You better tell me this is a joke," Victoria said.
"No, I'm leaving USA with Finn. We're moving to Ireland," Aveline said.
"You what?" Victoria yelled.
"I said, we're moving to..." Aveline started.
"I fucking heard you the first time!" Victoria yelled.
Finn reached a hand over and placed it on top of Aveline's. She looked over at him and was met by his warm smile. In that moment she was 100% sure this was the right call for the both of them. Ireland would be a much better fit for them.
"How fucking dare you, you ungrateful brat?" Victoria yelled. "How am I supposed to pay my bills and buy food? And I just booked a trip to Mexico. Who the hell is gonna pay for that? You are supposed to pay for that! I promised Torrie and Candice you would pay for it so that we could go. How dare you make me look weak in front of my friends? What good use are you if you can't even fucking pay for your old mother?"
"I don't care what you do from now on. All I know is that you're not my fucking problem anymore," Aveline said.
"You get your ass to my house right this fucking second!" Victoria demand. "Or else..."
Aveline hung up before Victoria could finish that sentence. She shut off her phone completely and looked over at Finn.
"Tell me something good," she pleaded.
He smiled and turned his phone around to show her some pictures.
"Mom sent me these pictures last night," he said. "She walked around town and took pictures of all the empty shops she could find. Maybe one of them fits you."
She scrolled through the pictures and stopped at the third one.
"I like this one," she said. "Nice colors already and the size looks about right. I think we might have to take a closer look at that when we arrive."
"We can take a closer look at how many you want," he said. "Your cupcake shop is gonna be the talk of the town."
He leaned over the table and pecked her lips before lifting his cup of coffee for a toast.
"To new beginnings," he said.
"New beginnings and eternal love," she said.
"Eternal love," he grinned. "I love it. I love you."
