Viator and Viatrix were two constellations that stood side by side in the starry sky, like twins. Every night, like a habit, Lumine would always gaze up into the sky to stare at the two constellations, hers and her brother.

It started as a form of reassurance, when her brother had to leave for a night. Her mother had shown her Aether's constellation, where it sat with her constellation in the night sky, when Lumine cried asking for her brother. It turned into a habit after Lumine had to leave her homeworld with Aether. She would gaze up into the night sky every night, searching for Viator and Viatrix until she found them to offer prayers for a safe journey. Even when she could see her constellation any time she wanted by summoning the stars to the palm of her hand, she felt reassured seeing them together with her brother's in the night sky.

In every world the twins went, the stars followed them. Every world except for one.

Lumine had woken up to a sky dyed orange from flames of carnage all around. Aether had shaken her awake and pulled her up, forcing her to her feet before they spread their wings to escape from the destruction of the world. They tried to flee, only to be intercepted by an unknown goddess. They tried to fight back, only for Lumine to cry out her brother's name as he was torn away from her grasp. She tried to fight back alone but the goddess' strength was too much for her and the last thing Lumine saw was the goddess looking down at her as her life, as she knew it, was torn apart.

The next time Lumine woke, it was to a night sky on a sandy beach with no one else in sight. She panicked at first, not being able to find her brother no matter how hard she searched the beach. And when she looked up to the sky to find their constellations, she could not see the familiar stars that followed them. She broke down and cried, screaming in fear and despair.

She cried at the loss of her wings, her only way home. She cried at the loss of her weapon, one of the few reminders of her parents. She cried at the loss of her brother, the only person who would never willingly leave her side.

Lumine did not know how long she spent crying but when her tears dried up, she looked up at the foreign stars that occupied the night sky. She looked down at the palm of her hands and brought her constellation out. She stared at the stars flickering in her hands and felt a surge of hope. Maybe, just maybe, it was not that the stars she knew were gone but they were hidden by the foreign stars that cover the night sky. If that was true, then her brother was still alive. If that was true, then Aether was lost in this world just like her.

However, when she gazed at the forest, Lumine felt fear. She had never ventured out without her twin by her side and now? She was trapped here in a world she knew nothing about, powerless and alone. Her back felt cold and foreign without her golden wings, her hands felt empty without her family's blade, and her heart hurt without the knowledge of her brother's well-being. However, her brother had to be alive and that? That gave her hope to live, it gave her the will to survive.

First, she needed to establish a camp. What had Aether told her about survival? Shelter, water source, heat, and food. Aether had always been better at surviving outdoors while her forte lies in combat. Her heart panged at the thought of her brother but she shook her head to chase the thoughts away. Water source first, then shelter and heat. Lumine did a quick scan of the beach but it scarcely had anything usable. There were crabs milling about on the sand, but those would take more effort to catch unless she could set up traps.

The tasks Lumine needed to do looked daunting but for her brother, she would prevail. She would live, she would survive, so that she may be reunited with him one day.

Lumine learned, as she built her shelter and campfire, and foraged for food and water, that survival was much harsher alone. There was no one else she could rely on to gather supplies, no one to consult if she was doing this right, no one to interact with to stave off the loneliness growing in her heart. And as night fell, her eyes would look up to the sky, searching for the constellations that should have been there.

(But they were not and her heart hurt every night with the tears she shed.)

Viator and Viatrix represented travellers in the stars and their owners, too, represented their constellations as well. Viatrix was a traveller and always had been. Lumine, also, desired to travel but she knew she had to be prepared for the lengthy journey ahead of her. She needed supplies, food that would last her a long time, a carrier to hold water, and a weapon to fight anyone foolish enough to stand in her way.

She made a fishing rod and a set-up above her campfire to smoke any fish she might catch. Leaves were set aside to wrap the smoked fish, and fruits gathered from the nearby forest were diced up and tied to thin vines to serve as bait. She cast her line out into the sea in front of her and set to wait. Her faith in catching anything edible however, was low. She lacked proper equipment and everything she made felt too primitive.

(But she had no choice, had she?)

With her shoddy rod and limited amounts of bait, Lumine managed to catch a small handful of fish throughout the entire day. And as she looked up again in the night sky, gazing at the foreign stars as she waited for the fish to be smoked, she imagined her brother's constellation in that night sky, standing with the foreign stars.

(But not hers, not when she could see hers any time she wanted and not her brother's together.)

Viator and Viatrix were twin constellations, the two were always found together, no matter their place in the sky. And yet, Lumine could only stare as Viatrix stood alone on her left palm while her right remained empty.

She was snapped out of her thoughts when there was a tug on her fishing rod. Lumine was yanked forward suddenly when she grabbed the rod, almost causing her to fall flat on her face. She shifted her stance to centre herself and pulled the rod back, pulling out the creature on the other end of her line in one swing. The weird white creature landed on the beach with a wet splat and Lumine casted her rod to the side to examine her catch.

The strange creature flew up and almost smacked Lumine in the face. They stretched their limbs and wiped themselves down with their hands, sweeping the sand that was stuck on their body.

"Hello! Thank you for saving Paimon! Who are you?"

…And Lumine realised that she could not understand the creature's language.

(Was it any surprise? All her powers were sealed, wings and sword. And now, her tongue included.)

Lumine blinked and tilted her head before shaking it, hoping that the creature understood that she could not understand their language. The creature stared at her before a look of realisation crossed their face. They pointed at themselves and uttered one word.

"Paimon!" Paimon said, their voice excited.

Were they telling their name to Lumine? For someone who had never met Lumine until a minute ago, they seemed far too willing to give their name to a stranger. Was this a normal cultural thing in this world? Or was this some kind of assassin? Did she accidentally unleashed a god of chaos that might be hellbent on destroying this world?

(Lumine could almost hear her brother laughing at her paranoia.)

Nothing ventured, nothing gained, Lumine supposed.

"Lumine," Lumine said, pointing to herself and after pausing for a second, she decided to add on, "Traveller."

Viator and Viatrix were always twins, always together. No matter where they were in the sky, the two constellations always stood together. Aether and Lumine were always twins, always together until the day they set foot in the world of Teyvat. However, no matter what, just like their constellations in the sky, Lumine will find her brother and they will be together again, like Viator and Viatrix.
