I have been floating here for, God, who knows how long?
I know I died. I can still remember that much. From what though, I can't remember.
All I recall is my mind racing at a million miles an hour, fading rapidly in and out of consciousness, and extreme heat.
And then I was here. In this dark void. A mere gray outline of myself against the black backdrop.
I've been keeping myself occupied by my sheer imagination though. I've forgotten most of my memories based on my identity and family, but I for some reason kept all my knowledge of any entertainment I consumed.
In complete and perfect detail, mind you. Like, I remember it better than I did when I was alive.
Back on track, I've been using my knowledge of entertainment to, well, entertain myself in my head for a while.
Mostly it's just been imagining endings to my favorite shows, books, and anime. I know I'll probably never get to actually see them again, but, hey? It's something to do.
…
Like this, talking to imaginary people in my head.
Hmm, what else?
Ah! Interestingly, I'll occasionally catch glimpses of other things in this void during my pondering.
Strange gray lights in the distance. The distant sounds of water echoing and ebbing. I think I heard a little girl scream once in the distance as well?
Nah. That can't be right.
As I ponder the fact that I will never be able to play the Elder Scrolls 6, Blue Protocol, or Overwatch 2 now I just causally look up to let out a sigh, only to see-
{H̴e̸l̵l̴o̸}
That.
Glitched, flickering like static, white text.
Well then. Uh. Hello?
{Congratulations. You missed your afterlife. That means you are being reincarnated.}
How the hell does someone miss the afterlife!?
{It matters little now.}
Preparing System
I felt a sharp prick in the back of my head, like a needle, at that.
"The hell!?" I hissed out, talking honestly hurt more than that prick though.
How long have I been here!?
{Long enough.}
{Now here. A gift.}
!System Actualized!
This system is based on User Preferences. Therefore, this system will be utilizing functions of the TRPGs known as Pathfinder 2 and D&D 5e.
Huh. Those are my favorites, though for different contrasting reasons.
Pathfinder 2 is what I like to call "customization hell", while 5e is very easy to run with once you grasp the relatively simple basics.
Before me, a sheet of light appears. Black slowly seeps in, creating letters and numbers.
A character sheet?
Name: Ŷ̵̼ọ̸́u̵̖̿r̷͔̍ ̶͕̿N̷̯͘ä̶̱́m̷͎̈ę̷͊ ̵̱͝G̷̻̏ŏ̸̥ȅ̴̼s̸̑͜ ̸͍̑H̵̥͛e̷̬͆r̵̛̺e̶̢̔

Judging by their being both "Ancestry" and "Heritage" here, that means it's primarily Pathfinder 2.
Well, damn. This might take a while.
{Now then...}
The text from before is now appearing above my sheet, and not me. Not gonna lie, kind of startled me a bit.
{Let's start with you first.}
{Close your eyes. Imagine a new body for yourself. A new ideal you.}
{Whatever you wish. I shall handle the insides and the like.}
{Then. You can get on with gaining a toolset.}
Well, alright? Guess we're doing this now!
~Angelfinder 1~
That did indeed, take a while. Like, woah.

And that was even with all those "To Be Decided" marks in there, which appeared as I started going.
Hell, when I put in Cleric and selected its spell-casting-focused version, "Cloistered Cleric", it automatically set my Background as an Acolyte.
Makes sense, but still, looks like my dream of being a Clockfighter Cleric has been trashed.
Also, the name section is broken. I can't edit it with a thought as I did for all the others. I just get a sharp pain in response.
On the one hand, not cool, on the other hand, score! I don't have to figure out a name for myself!
Oh, right! For those of you in my head who don't really know what you're looking at when it comes to the "Ancestry" and "Heritage" sections.
Ancestry is the race, technically. Under it, I could select everything from a robot, cat boy, a fucking dragon, and down to the plain old Human, which was my choice.
I only really did that because I didn't want to stand out if I went to a world where dragons or cat boys didn't exist.
Also, the feats are pretty okay.
Oh, yeah. Pathfinder 2? Feat hell. You got class feats, heritage feats, ancestry feats, skill feats, feet feats, and so on.
I like the system for customization's sake, but actually playing it is, well...
Time-consuming.
Anyhow, heritage is basically a type of inheritance, it turns you into a type of hybrid race should you take specific options.
For instance, those with an ancestry of humans, and heritage of tiefling, possess mostly human features, but also have a tail or horns, and have the fiends traits as well.
You don't need to take a heritage, as far as I'm aware, but free stuff, so why not?
…
So, uh, now what mysterious ROB? I can't fill out anything else, I tossed all my ability boosts from ancestry, background, class, and the freebies in. What now?
{Now. We do this.}
. . .Randomizing World Selection. . .
Huh. Alright, so it's random? What do we have here-
World Selected: Highschool DxD
I spittle out air.
Really? I'm heading there!? I should have picked being a dragon then! Is this system trying to kill me!?
. . .Randomizing Difficulty Selection. . .
Wait for it.
Difficulty Selected: Nightmare Mode
Hahhh. Fucking called it.
Due To Nightmare Mode, System Features 'Store' and 'Gacha' have been temporarily disabled.
. . .Randomizing Heritage Selection. . .
Heritage Selected: Angel
Due to Difficulty Mode, the User's starting level has been set to Level 5.
Hmm? Alright, I'm a little less hopeless now, and a tad curious. Why did "Nightmare Mode" disable those functions?
{Those before you used them to supersede the difficulty.}
Okay, understandable. One more thing. What exactly did the difficulty change? Like, is Riser gonna be Satan Class in this world with a Phenex True Form? Is Vali gonna have DxD Lucifer by the time Issei gets the Booster Gear unlocked?
{No such things will occur. The difficulty mode measures how difficult one's situation in the world is, and that is all.}
{Raw power is a minor consideration. Worry not. You will be given the proper tools to survive if you choose well.}
{Games are meant to be fun, after all.}
Hnnggh. Okay. I'm more worried now, back to my character sheet. Or a part of it.
Ancestry: Human
Heritage: Angel
Background: Acolyte
Class: Cleric
-Cleric Sub-Information-
Deity: God of the Bible
Domain: ?
Divine Font: Healing/Harming
Doctrine: Cloistered Cleric
Deity's Favored Weapon: Sword
Okay, the Domain part is flickering, and Divine Font is showing both options are selected at once which shouldn't be the case. But alright.
Let's just look at Domains. I wonder what the Biblical God has, anyway?
Choose Your Domain
Michael
Gabriel
Uriel
Raphael
Huh?
Uh. These are the Four Great Seraphs. Not Domains. System, help me out here!?
The System has detected that the God of the Bible is dead. But as your Heritage can only pick Him as a Deity, you must gain your specialized powers elsewhere.
"I'm not picking a Domain, I'm picking one of my parents." I finish before the prompt can continue.
Correct.
Okay. Okay! This is both really good, and really bad.
On one hand, the power on offer here is extremely good for most of the threats in the series!
On the other hand, those threats usually want Miracle Children, the DxD version of an Angel/Human Hybrid like myself now, dead.
And the child of one of the Four Great Seraphs? Oh yeah.
Double dead.
I don't think any of the Seraphs are confirmed to have children, much less the Greats.
Shit. If I was conceived, doesn't that mean my parent Fell!?
No. Your parents go through with the length ritual and prayer beforehand. Your parent remains a Great Seraph.
I breathe out a sigh of relief at that. I can work with that, I can work with this.
So. Who to pick?
Michael and Gabriel are characters, in the series. But I can't think of what special powers they might grant.
Uriel and Raphael are simpler, one possesses Holy Fire, and the other is apparently a pretty great healer.
…
Well. Out of those two options, which do you think I'm gonna pick?
I select Uriel.
After I do, my Domain becomes Holy Fire.
Nice.
Now then, next is feat hell, right?
Incorrect.
User must be informed of Racial Feats acquired upon Heritage and World Selection meant to fit in and make sense with the world.
Hmm? Unique stuff? Alright, hit me.
My character sheet suddenly shakes and changes, showing me the following...
Miracle Children, the spawn of a Pure Angel breeding with a Human; and not Falling.
As a Child of Heaven and Earth, you are far above normal humans, and the shackles of a broken system chain you to the stars just a bit less than they do Pure Angels.
Race:
Miracle Child
"A creature of this race possesses the following unique abilities, Babel Tongue, Angelic Magic, Light Weapons, and Angelic Form as well as the flaws Minor Anathema and Unholy Vulnerability."
Babel Tongue:
"You possess a permanent "Tongues", and "Comprehend Languages" spell effect on you.
Angelic Magic:
"Rather then a Divine Font, Focus Pool, or Spell Slots, you possess a pool of sacred energy called Holy Power which is used to cast those abilities and spells in their stead. When used in this way, you forgo any somatic, verbal, or material components of the ability and instead just pay the point cost out of your pool of Holy Power, or point cost based on spell level for spells.
You have access to all the spells in the Oracle/Cleric spell list, your Cleric Domain Focus Spells, and both Heal and Harm within Divine Font, without preparation or need to purchase them using feats. Due note that you still must meet the base requirements, such as level, to be able to cast the spells or use the abilities.
Your Holy Power pool is (Character Level * Wisdom Modifier).
You restore all your Holy Power after a long rest."
Light Weapons:
"You may summon a weapon that acts much like the spell "Spiritual Weapon", besides the fact this weapon may only spawn near you, and can only deal Holy Damage. The form the weapon may take must be the shape of anything that can be considered a weapon, such as a spear, sword, or arrow.
Utilizing this ability takes 1 point of Holy Power per weapon created, and more Holy Power may be used to heighten the damage of the spell."
Angelic Form
"You may summon a set of fluffy white feathered wings and a halo, granting a flight speed of 60 feet per second and a dim glow around you for 30 feet.
Note: The number of wings you possess is dependent on your Level. Every five levels, you gain an additional pair of wings to represent your growing power, capping at six pairs of wings. After which, the next five levels with turn your wings into pure light, and every additional five levels after will increase the glow and luminosity."
Minor Anathema:
"God's System recognizes you as an Angel, therefore, if you commit sin or go against his teachings, you will Fall, turning your wings black, losing your halo, and a good portion of your power as well. You would also be consumed by whatever Sin caused you to Fall, gaining a new Flaw representative of that.
Luckily, due to God's System slowly falling apart, the System struggles to truly chain you by its rules as you are not inherently a Pure Angel like the others.
Therefore, you may commit Sin and not Fall. You may have lecherous thoughts, lie, and kill, and as long as you hold onto a fair bit of virtue and never fully indulge or drown in Sin, you will stay Risen."
Unholy Vulnerability:
"As a Holy being, your very existence is the antithesis of the Unholy and Dark.
You take double damage from Infernal/Unholy/Dark sources or any source that can duplicate the effect."
That is a lot. Holy hell.
Alright then! There's some of that D&D 5e Influence, about what I was expecting.
Though Angelic Magic looks especially...juicy.
Next, is Feat Hell.
Fuck me.

I'll spare you all the blood and gore that are the feats and summarize them like this.
The class feats gave me the ability to deal damage to fiends, or Devils, with my Heal spells, it also gave me access to a new Domain and its spells, Righteous Zeal.
Makes sense for Uriel, really.
Speaking of Uriel, I grabbed an Ancestry Feat that lets me use my "powerful ego" to say no to mental compulsions or attempts at coercion
I'll say this once again, makes sense for Uriel. Remember, the man refers to himself in the third person.
My general feats and skill feats are a bit more for the fun of it, one lets me make an insight quip like spider-man to catch an opponent off guard, and another one lets me get more information out of conversations quicker and easier, and the final one lets me literally exhort the faithful.
…
What? This is the DxD Church we're talking about! If the place is going to be my faction from now on, you're damn well sure I'm gonna change it for the better!
Hell, the Church being as it is could be why I got slapped with Nightmare Mode in the first place, and if my new dear uncle Michael won't fix it, I will!
Or, more likely, gather enough evidence and pull a Martin Luther to force him to fix it.
Anyways! Besides my feats, I got a few of my ability scores raised, and a couple of abilities proficiencies raised up a tier. I got the crafting skill for my Deity being Big G, which, yeah. Makes sense. Also got the religion skill to expert.
Once again, just following the theme.
But, that should be everything I think.
{So it is.}
Alright, how are we going to do this?
{First, a final gift. Then, a story.}
World Trait Received: True Harem Anime
World Trait: True Harem Anime
Changes the nature of the world so that Harems are normalized, and neutralizes the negative side effects that could come with having and trying to manage one.
{You would think this world possesses this perk naturally, but that's surprisingly not so.}
{With it, at least one aspect of your life will be fairly fun and enjoyable }
Uh, thank, you...? Honestly, will be needed. Considering, ya know, Church.
How the hell Issei managed to get such a devote Christian like Irina into his harem is something I'll never understand.
{Now, for a story.}
My character sheet begins to shift again, this time, the text rolls down the page slowly as it appears.
12 years ago, the Great Seraph, Flame of God, and Archangel Uriel descended from Heaven to smite a particularly egregious Devil making a mockery of the Almighty in Spain.
It was meant to be a routine search and destroy, but when the smoke and ash all cleared, and the Archangel bide to return home, he meant someone.
Many say that in order to catch an Angel's heart, especially an Archangel's heart, one would need to be an exceptional individual who was rarer than even those naturally born to wield Holy Swords.
However, for Uriel, one Mirielle Marvel was.
In time, Uriel would find himself sneaking out of Heaven, he would tell no one of his secret affection, not even the Prince of the Host and elder brother, Michael.
Of course, no secrets truly last, and Raphael caught Uriel as he was sneaking out. In record time, Uriel found himself giving up the secret of his midnight escapades, much to his embarrassment.
But, shockingly enough, no admonishment came. In fact, his brothers and sister were more than happy to cheer him on and help him in his wish to take things further with his secret lover.
Is it any surprise then, that soon after one Aidan Marvel came about?
The Son of an Archangel and a Human, the first of his kind as a Miracle Child.
Is it also any shock then, that tragedy always follows after any good thing?
5 years would go by after his birth, and although Uriel couldn't live with them full time – he had his duty as a Great Seraph after all – he made sure to visit as much as he could.
During one of the times, Uriel was away from them in Heaven, they were attacked. By what exactly? It's not clear. The mother hid the child away, so he would be safe. He never saw the killer's face.
But Uriel believed himself to be at fault, he believed that his visits made the location – and thus them – a target.
The child couldn't be raised in Heaven, with his failure of a Father, he thought, so he sent the boy away. To a secluded monastery in Northern England filled with exorcists, priests, and nuns who would train, protect and watch over the young Miracle.
It has been 6 years, and things have been far too peaceful and quiet for far too long.
A party of Devils hailing from the Old Satan Faction has caught tales and whispers of a Miracle Child, hidden in England.
They have found you.
In 1 minute, a couple of dozen low-class devils, a dozen middle-class devils, three high-class devils, and one ultimate-class devil will assault your home.
You must survive.
Fuck.
Are you ready?
As ready as I'll ever be.
{Good luck. And have fun.}
My vision turns completely white.
~Angelfinder 1~
My eyes shot open with a start. I'm sitting in a chair, looking out one of the monastery's open windows.
This monastery is located atop one of those really tall and thin mountains, and I'm sitting in the tallest tower right now. It was about mid-afternoon, with a clear blue sky shimmering above.
11 years of memories assail my head, causing me to wince in pain for a brief moment. The memories tell me this is my favorite spot in the whole monastery, the view here is breathtaking, and you can see so far off into the distance.
The memories are right, and I agree, but I have little time to be worrying about that right now.
I mentally call upon my Holy Power, checking its reserves and finding it full, I prod my mind for spells, and at my current level find myself only able to cast up to 3rd level Oracle/Cleric spells.
It'll have to do. I'll conserve Holy Power by primarily casting cantrips, or 0-level spells, and save the actual spells for the high and ultimate class devils.
Holy Fire Domain Focus Spells
Holy Ignition (Cost: 3 Holy Power Per Use)
You ignite whatever you're holding or touching in your hand with Holy Fire, massively boosting the damage against evil and unholy creatures.
Deals or adds 6d6 additional damage to spell and weapon attacks split evenly between holy and fire. If used on a creature of darkness, such as a fiend or undead, multiply the additional damage by 4, and split as above.
I'm gonna hit those fuckers with this, they know I'm a Miracle Child, but not who I'm a Miracle Child of.
[Notice! An Emergency Campaign Quest Has Been Received!]
Ah, hello game menus! Nice to see you here!
[Quest Has Been Minimized!]
At that, multiple spell circles appear above the monastery of varying colors.
I smirk, a manic-like giggle escaping my lips.
"They won't even know what hit them!"
Angelfinder 1~
It took mere moments for the Devils to teleport in, looking down upon the quaint and rather boring holy place.
The lower class devils began spreading out slightly, moving to surround the place, before the warriors inside realized they were there. The middle-class devils move towards the front, where the warriors are likely to pour out.
And the three high-class devils stood around their leader, the lower ultimate-class devil Ichabod Satanachia.
"Why are we hear, Lord Ichabod? Surely, a mere lesser angel isn't worth coming all the way out here to this backwater travesty! We would have been more than enough to take care of them!" one of the 3 high-class devils speaks up.
The devil merely purses his lips. Truly, they are right, if it weren't for the slim chance that this Miracle Child was a girl.
For some context, the Satanachia Clan Trait is very unique and very powerful, see its mind control and mental manipulation! Truly, what power!
But, it's very specific. It only works on girls. Or females, but Ichabod prefers girls.
His entire party here? All girls, actually. All-female devils completely under his agonizi- loving control.
Each one sees a different Ichabod, but all see him as a stunning, handsome man. The peak perfection of Devil-kind suited perfectly to each of their tastes.
When, really...the man is a mess. Thin and lanky, with elfish ears, pale skin, and wild long black hair. His wardrobe is just as messy, made up of thrown-together pieces of clothing, miss-matched shape and color, made to look royal and noble, but the thin and creepy smile and the slightly crazy and paranoid glint in his eye says it all.
No, really, "Lord" Ichabod is the last of a fallen Extra Demon Clan, he hasn't seen true combat in so long, that he can't really remember the last time he has seen it. More often than not, his little party here does everything - and he just sits back, and enjoys the show from the comfort of home.
But, no, if he we're looking to score some bonus points for his new lords, the last true living Satans, by bagging a Miracle Child of all things, it's better he be here himself.
And, hey? If he sends them off to his lords in...less than ideal condition, well. Oh well, right?
Unless it's a boy. Then the little shit dies, and only his head goes to his lords, really, it's all the same in his eyes.
At least he'll have the nuns to look forward to after, even if the Miracle Child turns out to be a bust.
He doesn't really know why Church keeps employing so many absolutely sinful-looking girls, but he certainly won't mind if they continue.
Ah, his toy said something to him, right? He should probably say something..hmm, no. He needs to get on with locating the Miracle Child and maybe taking over some nuns to start causing chaos inside the monastery.
And with a wave of his hand, the devil who asked him that question turns away, eyes slightly duller than before.
Now then, time to begin! These little warriors of it won't know what hit them!
So, he begins reaching out with his Clan Trait, a demonic magic circle forming beneath him.
And then he stops. His entire body is tense, and suddenly, it begins shaking.
"H-Hmm?" looking around, he can tell that the others in his party feel it too, a few of the lower class devils having even frozen completely.
And then he looks up.
Flying many feet away is a slightly tanned young boy with dark golden hair, blue eyes, and 2 pairs of fluffy white wings spread out from his back, with a halo adorning his head.
And in his right hand is a light spear many times his size.
At that moment, Ichabod felt his natural instincts being overpowered by sheer rage at what was displayed before him.
A Miracle Child! But not his Miracle Child!
But even that rage was washed away as the entire light spear suddenly ignited like dry timber, roaring with bright purple flames...?
Holy Fire.
Ichabod barely had time to throw up a Defensive Magic Barrier as the spear dropped like a missile right on top of him and his three cohorts.
~Angelfinder 1~
That one attack took out half of my Holy Power, but I saw an opening to take out the biggest threats here in one shot, so I took it. Right now, all there is of that area where the spear collided is a blast of smoke and heat.
Almost instantly, the remaining devils turned and tried to rush me down, but just as the devils around the doors looked away, said doors exploded off their hinges in a burst of holy force, slamming into the devils before being felled upon by a dozen or so exorcists, all brandishing light swords and guns.
A few of the lower-class ones still tried to rush at me, but-
"NO! TAKE CARE OF THE FILTH! I'LL TAKE THE CHILD!"
The most vitriolic voice I'd ever heard, coming from the smoke cloud below, bellowed out- wait.
Shit!
In a second, a devil, clothes blackened by burn damage, bat wings smoking, and skin severely burned and broken in places is in my face.
He looks absolutely fucking mental.
I attempt to shove him away, but mid-movement he grabs my hands and crushes them.
"AUGGGHHH!"
"What's the matter little fuck~?" he's now in my face, are noses almost touching, "You took my best play toys, now I'm going to rip off your fucking arms, and beat you to death with them!"
"Fuck you, you ugly scab-ridden toothpick!" I throw back right in his face, and just as I see his eyes widen at an angel cussing him out, I draw out 3 more points from my Holy Power and cast the 3rd Level version of my simple Heal spell.
An angelic spell circle blasted out beneath me, sending out a wave of silver light centered on me. The moment it touched the devil, he reels back, letting me go and howling in pain as I watch his body steams and sizzles like boiling broth.
Meanwhile, the silver light flows around my hands, repairing them back to normal in short order.
I have 7 points in my Holy Power pool left.
Fuck.
"You. WILL, DIE!" With a wave of his hand, spell circles begin appearing before him.
"Tch!" I move as said spell circles begin firing blasts of viscus purple orbs, dashing down as the orbs follow me.
Just as I'm about to hit the ground, I make a sharp turn right, causing the spell orbs to smash into the ground and explode like a freshly popped slime ball.
Everything the slime touched withered away into dust.
Flying low to the ground now, I raise my hand towards him, angelic spell circle appearing before me, rapid-fire casting the cantrip Divine Lance, each shot producing and sending a beam of holy energy flying out for the deranged devil.
"You-! Little! Stop that!" each shot is dodged, but forces him to stop casting whatever that spell was.
And then, one finds its mark, hitting him straight on the leg, and causing another howl of agonizing pain.
"YOU!" a manic grin suddenly spreads across his face, "Alright, brat! Deal with this!" he holds out his hand, causing another spell circle to appear, but this time, it's not seemingly aimed at me.
In any case, I slow my speed and begin to form another Light Weapon in my ha-did something just prick me on the back!?
Whirling around, I quickly hold up my arm to block a light bullet as it splatters against my body, and after that, I fold my wings over my front body to block numerous shots.
Looking out from behind my wings, I see my attackers are...the nuns? All having picked up light guns from the nearby dead – god, there are so many bodies – to fire at me.
Why!? Is this some kind of setup!? Was my hiding place leaked by a traitor!?
No, wait. Looking closely, each nun has the same dead and empty expression on their face.
"Mind Control...?" rather than form a Light Weapon, I form a barrier of hard light in front of myself using the cantrip Shield, letting it block all the light bullets while turning to face the devil, a manic – almost crazed and euphoric – grin on his face as he stares down the nuns.
I'm going in for the kill, fuck it. He should be suffering from severe Light Poisoning by now, I can do this.
With my mind made up, I blast towards him, shield now facing him.
The devil sees me, shock marring his scarred face, but he's too late bringing out another spell as I slam right into his gut, the hard light shield shattering at the force.
1 point of Holy Power is spent forming a silver sword of light, and another 3 are spent igniting the blade with Holy Fire.
In one motion, I'm cutting cleanly through the devil's body in a monk's robe cut, bottom right to top left.
His screams are quickly overcome by the roaring of my Holy Fire as it consumes his entire body.
I watch as his remains fall to the ground below, not even ashes are left remaining.
I'm about to turn to check on the nuns, when absolute agonizing pain shoots through my wings, down into my back.
My world becomes a spiral as I'm blown to the ground by a net of cutting wind.
"U-Ugggh, w-what..?" I look back at my wings, and pale a bit as the once white feathers are now marred and dripping with crimson red. Looking up, I pale even further as I see that there are still devils around.
All the exorcists and priests that went out to fight had died. And the nuns are slowly pointing their guns at me...
"What, but I...?" I couldn't believe it, his spell didn't end after he died!?
"It killed our Lord." one of the remaining devils began, with not a single ounce of emotion, not even rage, their eyes are just empty. At the murmuring of agreement, another one perks up, "Shall we rip off its wings, and torture it to death with its plucked feathers, before rejoining our love?"
And this time, the agreements were stronger.
"A dead man's switch...!?"
I stagger to my feet and jump to the side as a lightning bolt blasts apart the ground I was just laying.
I have 2 points of Holy Power. The remaining devils, about eight or so, are too spread out for me to catch them all at once. And I would really rather not kill the nuns in some grand final attack, either.
Light bullets suddenly rain down upon me, I form a Shield to take them, but it's short-lived as a fireball comes flying in from the side, hitting my side, blasting my shield apart, and sending me sliding across the ground, slightly burned and aflame.
"I need more speed...", I hiss out, drawing upon my Holy Power, I use 1 point to cast Heal on myself only. A magic circle appeared beneath me to administer the healing light to my side and wings.
As soon as they're back, I take to the skies once more, narrowly dodging a wave of wind sent my way on the way up.
With my last point of Holy Power, I form a light sword in my hand, stopping in front of them all to hold the weapon out, pointing at them.
"Don't worry, I'll send you all to your love just as quickly as I sent him screaming to God for mercy!"
That seemed to make their faces twitch with a slight bit of anger.
Then they all begin charging up spell circles at the same time, all aimed right at me.
I blink owlishly. "I was kidding?"
They go on to blast various elemental magic at me.
Damned Spider-Man quip feat.

This has been going on for about 5 minutes.
I fly in to attack one devil, who defends or dodges, while all the others shoot spells at me from all sides.
I tried using my cantrips, but the only one that can attack Divine Lance requires laser focus that I can't achieve while being fired upon on all sides.
I am also running out of stamina, physically. I don't possess Gamer's Body or anything of the sort, and I learned that quickly when I could feel my body get heavier and heavier the more I flew around, dodging wind, lightning, and fire every which way.
I'm losing the endurance battle to a bunch of brainwashed middle-class devils and nuns.
Yikes, that's a sentence.
I land on the ground, heaving heavily as I draw my wings into my back to give them a break, my head snaps up, flinging up my Shield to block another hail of light bullets.
I can feel it coming, the fireball, to my right side, just as it whirls in, I use my sword like a baseball bat and take a swing at it.
Both my sword and the fireball detonate into their respective elements, and I am sent skidding back, slightly burned, but still standing.
But also now weaponless.
"I thought that could...take more of beating...f-fuck!" It's...so hard to breathe.
I hear thunder above me.
"T-TCH!" Attempting to sidestep the incoming bolt of demonic lightning, "AUGGHHHH!" proves worthless as it blasts me into a newly formed crater in the ground.
Everything. Fucking. Hurts.
But in any case, I still shakily get back up, looking forward, only to see a devil blitz towards me.
Before I can even raise my guard, she's in it, and I take a right hook straight to the jaw so hard I get sent spiraling out of the crater.
I could hear the sound of my jaw snapping at the force, my body creaking as it slams into the ground once again.
I'm going to die again, aren't I?
I'm thinking I could probably kill the devil punching me around right now with a sneaky Divine Lance, but then the spell casters will just blow me to pieces right after.
"H-Hah." I barely croak out. I offed the high-class devils and their leader but got done in by the middle-class devils and mind-controlled nuns.
I probably could have probably played this better, but...fuck. Pretty good first try for a guy with no real live combat experience, right?
So, I close my eyes and accept my fate.
The devil is approaching me now, slowly now. But and then she stops a bit away from me?
Suddenly, I feel something pick me up around the shoulders. Gently, it pulls me in, and all I can describe next is the feeling of being wrapped in something soft and warm.
A new voice, kind and soft and serene, yet almost sad, speaks into my ear. "Oh, my sweet little Nephew."
My eyes fly open as golden light joins the softness and warmth, and my body slowly begins repairing itself.
I see the most gorgeous women I've ever seen anywhere, with long blonde hair and crystal clear blue eyes. Twelve fluffy and soft white wings, wrapped gently around me to hold me, her hand's brim as the source of the golden light right against my chest.
"I'm sorry, we couldn't make it sooner." a sad smile makes its way across her face.
That sorrow doesn't belong there, please don't cry, I was stupid, is all I want to say out loud, but can't, as a small army of 2 winged angels flies overhead, quickly overrunning the devils, and subduing the nuns.
I look over to see the devil that attacked me last, dead on the ground, a light spear humming even as it sticks out of her skull.
I decide it's probably better to just look up at her.
"T-Thank you, Aunty." I manage to stutter out, and that seems to make the sorrow drain from her face.
"Rest now, Aidan."
Extreme heaviness hits my eyelids like freight trains, and I let them fall.
In one moment, I am encased in darkness once again.

: Author's Notes :
It's Gamer fic time while I wait for Flameclaws "Dungeon and Devils" fic to update.
Yes, his fic is what inspired this. His fic, along with a healthy dose of my shock at how little the Church, Miracle Children, and other related things are used in DxD fics as a whole.
Double yes, the title is a play on "Dungeons and Devils", I would have gone full irony and made my system more based around D&D, but 5es simplicity made it really difficult to get the stuff I wanted for Aidan without going Sorcerer.
Also, D&D spells just kinda...suck.
Most Gamer fics just have the gamer go Devil, then go brrrr.
I'm going to have Aidan go part-Angel, then go burn. Same outcome, a different coat of paint.
Also, Church Harem focus, anyone?
You'll see more of why this is considered Nightmare Mode next chapter. I'll give you a hint.
Important canon stuff goes brrrr.
I'm not too sure about my fight scene in this one, I kinda felt like it was too short...but, he did get the drop on him, and Holy Fire is supposed to be able to seriously injure ultimate-class devils and outright kill high-class ones...
Eh, he's a Gamer fighting enemies that are automatically weak to him. He maybe could have won that entirely if he managed his Holy Power pool better, or attacked earlier...but, it's over now.
Gotta move on to more important stuff. Like fixing a corrupt thousand-year-old religious institution for your guilt-ridden uncle.
Also harem.
Peace.
