It was a busy yet uneventful month, or at least close to a month, as nothing exciting happened.

With my fisherman job, I was able to gather a small fortune for me and the crew, which I quickly blew up most of it to finally get out of the shelter, buy new clothes and buy a nice-looking wallet. The last one made keeping count of my money far easier, as it displayed the number whenever I pulled it out.

One good thing about the discovery of the job systems is that the memories slowly connected with each other and made sense and seamlessly integrated with me, at least some of them as there are some that cause me a headache whenever I try to understand or think about them.

I am the lucky one to be in possession of the infamous gamer system, but a rather strange one as those memories showed tales of getting stronger with menial tasks and more things that didn't happen to me at all throughout the month.

In theory, I should have had an entire catalog of jobs and skills, but soon I learned that unlocking new jobs wasn't as easy as I thought it would be. And it wasn't as if people refused to help me. Quite the contrary, many gladly took their time to teach me their craft.

And the results remained the same.

Kinda disappointing development for a supposed gamer who is known to be the conqueror of worlds. Still, I took into consideration the possibility that those memories are just a product of partial imagination to appeal to the sense of wonder. They make little sense when trying to apply it to reality.

But there was another factor that hit me right in my pride.

It was another disappointment that, despite a month having passed; I remained stuck at level one. Only the fisherman and cook increased their level to the point of reaching a breakthrough.

However, the promotion from novice to journeyman made a lot of difference in the field. I no longer needed to sail deep into the sea, only a good fishing rod and a pleasant spot away from the busy port and for the cooking tree. I ended up working as an assistant in a small market restaurant.

I am a self-made man… or faunus.

So I can be proud of something rather than mop all day and wallow in self pity.

"Truly fishing is the endgame to all paths." Reason why I find myself fishing on a natural formation of rocks that works as a seawall. The sea waves crashing against the rocks and wind pushing them, working as a pleasant tune as I feel a tug on my fishing rod.

My basket is practically full of fish of all sizes and a couple of crabs stored in a bucket, as they might damage the fish if put together.

My attention shifts to the rod and starts spinning the reel back and when it gets close enough, I use some strength for the last pull and a reddish fish the size of my arm comes out trying to get away from the hook.

[Fisherman Level up]

[Journeyman fisherman level 6]

I wonder if I level up enough times, I would start fishing sharks. Should I get a bigger basket?

With the fish at hand, I grab a stick and smack the animal on the head to end its suffering before dropping it into the basket with the rest.

"Hi there."

Hearing a new voice, I spin around and find a fair-skinned girl wearing a white tank top and pair of blue short jeans.

That's a pretty common fashion trend for a tropical city, I must admit.

She also is as tall as me, but her pointy long beige ears sticking out from her long curly brown hair give her an edge since my ears are pointing sideways instead of upwards.

"Hey." I weakly wave my hand to greet her in kind.

"Do you mind if I take some?" She points at my basket with an innocent smile.

"Sure, take one." I grab my basket and open it for her so she gets free access, making her smile turn into a grin as she picks the recently caught red fish from moments ago.

"Nice, free food." She pulls out a folded plastic bag from her shorts where she puts the fish in it.

An affection system?

But why now and why her? I have met others and shared good times and it didn't trigger this new system.

"Very strange way to say thank you." I dismiss my doubts and slightly raise a brow in doubt.

She rolls her eyes as another cheeky smile forms on her lips. "Fine. Thank you, oh merciful one."

She gives a sarcastic bow to finish her sentence.

I chuckle at her display and play along. Raising my nose up like a true stuck up rich bastard. "Flattery will get you nowhere. Now move along, young one. This one has some proper business to do."

She giggles as her top ears wiggle for a moment before resting in an uneven position.

"...this might not be the best introduction, but who are you?" I say after a moment.

"My name is Levi Fang, and you?" She extends an open invitation for a handshake, which I take and shake it with a smile.

"Ma'iq Rakhan. I'm delighted to make your acquaintance."

"That's a strange name, no offense. And no need to be all formal or anything with me." She waves her hand dismissively.

"Better safe than sorry. I don't want to offend a big shot going incognito, you know?" I only shrug and drop the basket on the ground. "And don't worry about your comment. I got used to hearing the same thing after a while."

"So, what's bringing you here?" I gesture at the entire place around us, since it is not exactly a busy or popular spot.

She walks closer to the edge and kicks a couple of pebbles into the sea. "Curiosity. I saw you all alone fishing in this spot for a couple of days now. And you must be really good at it if the amount of fish in that basket is any indication." She spins around and points at the container next to my feet.

Instinctively, my tail reaches for the lid and closes it, trying to hide the contents from Levi's eyes. But I admit it is weird that I tend to forget about my tail.

"Curiosity killed the cat, you know?" I tease her, but that only makes her smirk.

"Good thing I'm not one." She points at her ears, happily dancing.

"I swore you were one…" I trail off as my hand scratches my head in confusion, since her only faunus trait is her extra pair of ears. I don't have anything else to differentiate her.

Her face twists into a frown as she kicks a bigger rock off the rocky seawall.

[Affection with Levi Fang decreased by 1, 00/100]

I have to avoid speaking my mind.

"I didn't mean to offend you or anything. I'm just ignorant regarding the variety of faunus and I wish to learn more about my kin if possible." I try to apologize and let out a sigh of relief as she smiles again in response.

Levi moves closer and grabs my fishing rod. "Can you teach me?"

I am surprised at first by her request, but quickly take the chance to make it up for offending her. "Sure. Is not that hard to be honest. You need a lot of patience tho."

She rolls her eyes to my warning and points at the sunny skies. "I have all the time in the world."

[Affection with Levi Fang increased by 1, 01/100]

I guess I made a genuine friend.

Levi left after teaching her the basics of correct posture and even promised to come back the next day to continue our lessons.

And I am already waiting for tomorrow to arrive.

But there are a couple of things I need to do before calling it a day.

Heading to the market to sell my work of the day, I quickly notice a crowd gathering. Usually that is a normal sight at the docks, but it is still too early for fishermen to return and rather than shouting prices, they were cheering and maybe even chanting.

Is just hard to differentiate from all the noises.

Curiosity getting the better of me, I approach the crowd.

"What's with the commotion?" I ask the closest person who turns to look at me and points at the center.

"The white fang returned with a large shipment of dust. I hope I get some."

"White fang?" My ears perk up at the mention of that particular name and all my senses focus on reaching the front of the crowd, ignoring whatever the man is saying.

I carefully push some people aside to make my way and my doubts are confirmed as I watch a group of faunus dressed in black sleeveless hoodie and a white robe flashing their menacing symbol of a large feline head handing out to the people small boxes filled to the brim with the famous dust crystals.

"The white fang is always looking for new members! Join us to protect the rights of faunus all over Remnant!" The tallest and muscular white fang member announcement reaches most of the youngest members of the crowd who line up in front of another member with white bunny ears coming out from his hoodie, who started distributing flyers.

The scene doesn't match up with the little I heard from them back in Vacuo or even the blurry memories.

This only makes me worry.

But in a crisis, there is an opportunity. They can be my ticket out of level 1 and learn more about them. And I'm aware how stupid of an idea it sounds.

I patiently wait for all the young crowd to disperse before I approach the rabbit faunus. "Can you give me one?"

"Sure, brother! Is nice to see the young generation step up against injustice!" He hands me a flier with a smile.

He doesn't look older than me by much. It is kinda weird to refer to everyone as if he was our elder.

"Yeah yeah…" I dismiss his blatant propaganda as I check the paper. Besides the corny words and slogans, it has directions on where to find their recruitment buildings or, if I feel daring, their training camp, which is not that far off from the city walls.

I save the piece of paper in one of my pockets and leave for the market. Making my first stop at the old man's stand, who gladly takes off the fish from my hands and pays me reasonably well. The crabs make up for the difference, as they are considered a delicacy for expert cuisine, which means they sell well.

I considered the idea of selling directly to the public, but it would mean standing for hours and screaming about my products and price, things that I'm not really comfortable doing. So it is better to let others deal with it.

With that out of the way, I head deeper into the market and reach the restaurants, the great smell of seafood and more reaching my nose and tempting me to spend my hard-earned lien.

But I turn and walk to a specific restaurant that is just opening its metaphorical doors.

I drop all my things in a container close to the small kitchen, but the flier falls off and touches the floor.

Since I don't want to be accused of littering, I pick it up and turn it into a ball before stuffing it back in my pocket so it doesn't fall again.

"Are you actually considering joining the White fang?" A deep voice catches my attention.

I slowly turn around and see my boss wearing his apron, looking at me with concern. "Well, fishing all morning and cooking all evening is nice, but it got kinda boring after a month. I believe there is more for me out there."

It isn't a lie, but neither is the whole truth. I really want to know the truth behind the White Fang.

The gorilla faunus pats my back as his concern changes to an understanding smile. "Can't blame you. I was also the adventurous type when I was younger. But you should also learn your limits and know when to quit."

"Were you a hunter?" I ask with curiosity if his words hinted at that possibility.

He only shakes his head, making me drop my interest. "Not really, I was just a backpacker traveling all over Remnant, meeting new places and people. The Grimm wasn't the biggest threat to me at that time, mostly bandits and low-life."

"It would have been cool if you were actually a retired hunter." I tease, causing him to let out a hearty laugh.

"That doesn't mean I didn't pick up a couple of moves in my travels." He lightly punches my arms, making me rub the spot even if it doesn't hurt. "I can teach you some if you got some time to spare."

"I will keep that in mind." I move to the counter and grab the gray bandana under it before wrapping it around my head, careful to not apply too much pressure on my ears. "So, what is on the menu?"

A quick glance at my wallet showing less than a thousand lien makes me smile as it means I only needed another day's work to have enough for my rent and then use the remaining time to save up for a scroll.

On my way home, I bought a book about sewing and knitting that had the absolute basics in the craft, including some history and small biographies of famous people in the design and fashion of Remnant.

Finding another way to unlock more jobs is a priority, but with the constant failures, my enthusiasm slowly slipped away bit by bit.

If this doesn't work, then I honestly don't know what other option I have and will have to resort to luck, hoping one day I trigger another unlocking.

Arriving at my little home, I open the door and drop everything inside before sitting behind my empty desk. I start reading and as boring as it sounds, I steeled myself to maintain my attention. Not to memorize every word, but to actually understand the book and what it is trying to teach.

Even the proper posture to take when working.

The book wasn't as thick as an encyclopedia, but neither was short and, taking a quick glance at my clock, I realized it was the dawn of a new day. But since I am my own boss, work schedule was no issue of mine.

"Now let's test this out." I grab the pair of thick needles with a blue yarn ball and place them on my desk next to the open book.

I return to the knitting section and follow the instructions on how to knit a single cloth piece. Instructions which I zealously follow to the letter, as everything needed to be perfect, just be sure.

Tie the yarn, go through the loop, wrap it around and go down.

The same movement over and over again until all the repetition takes shape into a square cloth of yarn.

[Weaver's job unlocked!]

[Novice Weaver lv 1]

"Fucking finally…"

I can finally sleep in peace.
