Jasmine woke up early, as usual, she silently rose up from her bed and get ready for her day. Usually, she woke up earlier than anyone else, Jasmine theorized in the privacy of her mind that it may be because of her past life. As Holly, she had needed to wake up at the crack of dawn in order to prepare the Dursley's breakfast since when she was young, a habit that she never really broke out of.

She went to the common room with a book in hand and continued reading about the hieratic script and trying to memorize a few more of the hundreds of symbols. To be honest many of these she would likely never use, however it was better to have the biggest diversity of symbols possible. It was much like having a more diverse vocabulary; it simply increased the likelihood of having the correct symbol the moment she needed it. She probably wouldn't be so exhaustive when or if she learned the hieroglyphs, as those are usually used to create permanent wards, and therefore would probably allow herself to bring a book for reference if she needed it.

The minutes quickly passed by as she was absorbed by her readings, ideas on how to use the Egyptian script flying freely inside her head.

"Jasmine you're still here, that's unexpected."

Jasmine lifted her gaze from her book only to see Dorea looking at her.

"Dorea you woke up early."

"Not really, it is quite late for your standards, I think this is the first time I have seen you in the common room this late."

"I'm waiting for Violet, haven't you seen her?"

"She hasn't woken up? That's weird, maybe you should go look for her. She won't have time for breakfast if she doesn't wake up soon, trust me I know it first hand." she said with a slight chuckle. "Well good luck with that, I'll see you later."

"See you later." murmured Jasmine.

Now convinced that something was wrong she rose up and went directly toward Violet's room. She knocked on the door but no one came. Jasmine tried casting a Homenum Revelio but she failed the characteristic feeling of it failing against a ward. Jasmine smiled faintly at the fact that Violet had become proficient enough in Runes to be able to ward her room, still right now it was only a hindrance.

With a quick movement of her wand, she conjured a stone block on which she quickly started to draw a few symbols from the Hieratic script. She finished quickly enough, she had gained enough practice during her sessions with Violet and Eileen to make a simple ward disruption scheme if the need arose. Then she embedded a bit of her magic into the rune script activating it and it immediately sent a wave of magic in her vicinity. She hoped that the simple scheme would be enough to disrupt the ward blocking her spell.

Once again, she cast Homum Revelio, and to her good luck, she felt it work. But she wasn't able to feel proud of dismantling the ward when she noticed that the room was as empty as she feared. Cursing under her breath she went back to the common room squeezing her brain trying to think where her friend could be. She must have woken up earlier than her since she hadn't seen her while she waited for her in the common room, so she must have had something to do early.

She started to make her way towards the Great Hall trying to think what could Violet need to do so early in the morning. Jasmine wondered if she needed to send someone a letter, but they normally only wrote to the merchants who bought their Basilisk products, as they didn't really have friends outside of Hogwarts. She had almost arrived at the Great Hall when she remembered last night's conversation in which they mentioned that Neville's grandmother wanted to join their study club. Violet must have decided to speak with her personally, to spare her the need to do it herself. Jasmine had to contain a grimace at that, Violet could be polite and gentle but only when she wanted it and she hadn't given the best description of Neville's grandmother, it was best if she looked for her.

She still wasn't that comfortable with the thought of helping her. The last time she had seen her they had finished in a shouting match. But, she had given Violet a chance and it had worked out for the better she could do it for her too. Sure, even though Violet had looked similar to her other world self she had looked quite distinctively different from him too and she had only met him as a normal human being once. Regardless, she hadn't met Neville's grandmother more than once or twice so she could look past what another version of her did.

When she entered the Great Hall she went directly towards the Gryffindor table, where she saw one of the first years that usually went to the study club. Joana Abrams was a nice muggleborn who was having some issues with Defense so she had joined the club for some help.

"Good morning Joana." she greeted her happily.

"Jasmine! Hi, how are you?" she said a bit startled

"I'm fine thank you, I'm looking for heiress Longbottom have you seen her?"

"You mean Augusta Longbottom?" she asked, a bit confused. "No I haven't seen her, maybe she still is in the common room." she suggested helpfully.

"Thank you, I'll look for her in there." said Jasmine.

She hadn't gone back to the Gryffindor common room of this world but she had lived six years in the place she knew the way there like the back of her hand. But she preferred to be there when they talked with Augusta about the study club, she wouldn't be surprised if Violet tried to convince her to not come.

She had almost arrived at the end of the Fat Lady corridor when she saw Violet appear from one of the branching corridors.

"Violet, what are you doing here?" she asked.

"Oh Jasmine, it seems that I got lost looking for Gryfindor's common room. I asked someone back at the Great Hall and they told me that it was on the seventh floor near an armor without its headpiece but I haven't found it. I'm half-convinced that the bastard lied to me," she said with a bit of venom in her voice.

"Yes I think they lied to you, the entrance is the painting of the fat lady. What were you doing here?"

"I was looking for Longbottom but she never showed up. I think she must have gone to the Great Hall when I wasn't looking." she said with a small frown.

"We must have missed her both then because I didn't see her when I came here. You know you didn't need to talk with her alone, I know that it isn't exactly your favorite activity." said Jasmine good naturally to which Violet softly smiled.

"Yes I know, but you didn't seem so comfortable with it either, I really just didn't want you to put yourself in a position that you didn't like." she said, making Violet warm inside at how thoughtful her friend could be. Violet may have some issues interacting with others but to a certain extent that only made Jasmine appreciate their friendship even more.

"I really appreciate it but as I said yesterday I was sure I was going to be able to talk with her without much issue." she said, hoping it sounded more convincing to Violet's ears than her own.

The strenuous smile that adorned Violet's face didn't make it seem that way, but she relaxed afterward before saying. "I will always try to help you where I can Jasmine. Now I think we should go to the Great Hall now if we are quick we may have a chance of taking a bite, I'm starving." Jasmine nodded and she dragged Violet through a series of shortcuts and secret passages to move quicker.

The rest of the day quickly passed by. They weren't able to arrive at the Great Hall before the bell sounded despite Jasmine using as many shortcuts as she could, so Jasmine had to bear her hunger until the bell for lunch sounded. Jasmine was so focused on eating that she completely forgot about talking with Augusta. So they didn't have the opportunity to talk with her until dinner.

Augusta was all the way at the end of the Gryffindor table eating seemingly alone. Jasmine made her way towards her and she must admit that she reminded her of a young Neville, she was quite chubby and small.

"Good evening heiress Longbottom, I'm Jasmine Potter, Dorea told me that you were looking for me." she said politely.

"Good evening heiress Potter. I'm sorry for disrupting your night, professor Slughorn told me that I should ask for your help. But last night one of my upperclassmen offered his help with potions and I think that individual tutoring will work better than having classes with a larger group."

Jasmine nodded along, a little bit mortified that she had been so worked up for basically nothing. "Oh, yes that makes sense, well if you ever need some help in potions or any other class you can be sure that we will leave the door open." she responded with a smile.

"Thank you, I appreciate it." she said with a small smile.

Jasmine smiled in return and went back to her table.

"How did it go?" asked Violet when she sat once more beside her.

"Well, she said that she found an upper classmate that could tutor her so there's no need to join the club anymore. It's a bit of a shame, to be honest, she reminds me a bit of Neville."

Violet grimaced a bit at that before saying. "If Neville was like that I'm not sure I would have wanted to meet him."

"Who's Neville?" asked Dorea, interrupting our conversation.

"Oh, umm he was a friend I had made before I met Violet." explained Jasmine a bit discomposed.

"Huh, so there was a time when you two weren't glued at the hip. I can't imagine, to be honest." shrugged Dorea.

"It isn't as if we are conjoined twins." protested Violet.

"You may as well be, counting how much time you two spend together." whined back Dorea.

"We do things individually, for example, Violet hasn't gone to one of your matches since Montague almost decapitated her with a Bludger." argued back Jasmine huffing slightly.

"And I still feel offended by that. Why wouldn't you want to see my incredible skills on the broom?"

"Because that sport is a menace to anyone who is even remotely involved in it." responded Violet drily.

"Jasmine seems to like it though." said Dorea with a wide grin.

"Please don't drag me into this again." pleaded Jasmine, already seeing where the conversation was going. They spent the rest of dinner happily bantering, the heavier topics quickly lost in Jasmine's mind.

The months quickly passed by and the incident was forgotten by Jasmine under the hundreds of other little things that were going on. The end of the year quickly approached Violet and she had continued working together on the short spare time they had while trying to juggle normal classes, dueling club, their study group, and their little session studying runes with Eileen. The three of them were in an abandoned classroom together, one late Wednesday afternoon lazily brainstorming.

"I still think that the script array is way too complicated for a simple temporary ward, it will burn all its magic away in just a few hours." said Jasmine while examining the latest version of their newly invented temporary ward. They had decided to finally put into practice their hieratic script.

The script was perfectly designed for more temporary wards that could only function for a few days at most. They had been their primary defense during those days that they had tried to enter one of the various possible hideouts that Voldemort may have used for his Horocruxes. The script had the variety needed to create even the most complex of wards while still being efficient enough to not leave magical traces out in the wild.

Jasmine had been quite interested in learning the script herself because she had seen the wonders that Hermione had been able to cock up with it in her previous life. Sadly, they may have bitten more than they could chew on this first occasion.

"That may be the case, but if we want to build in all the different features you two proposed we need to make it this complicated." snapped back Violet quite irritated.

"Maybe we could try to put more alternative paths to gather the magic before and after the main array? That way it may be able to gather enough magic to last for at least two days." proposed Eilleen still a bit timidly despite the months of work they had done together. The girl had the weakest grasp of the hieratic script of all of them but she had learned enough about runes in general to have some rather brilliant ideas.

"Great idea that way the energy will be completely unevenly distributed and the whole array will fail." mocked Violet, making Eileen recoil and Jasmine sigh her friend could be downright nasty when she was stuck with a problem

"Violet don't be rude, that was a great idea, we could limit the maximum amount of energy that any given part of the array is going to take so that the energy is evenly distributed. The problem is that this is going to make them more vulnerable if someone tries to brute force them." said Jasmine after a minute of consideration.

The three of them remained silent while they tried to find a solution to their conundrum. The ward was proving quite difficult to design, as they had decided to create an original ward of their own invention with plenty of features on it, from a muggle repelling ward to making sure the area warded would be unplottable. Although, if Jasmine was honest with herself she had been the one who had proposed most of the features.

Their musings were interrupted by the sound of the bell marking the end of classes. Jasmine rose up from the chair she was sitting in and stretched a bit.

"Well, I think that it's time to go eat something, to be honest. I'm too tired to actually find a solution to this."

"Yes, I guess that you're right." sighed Violet, Eileen nodded along. The three of them went to the Great Hall. They were one of the first of their years to arrive.

Jasmine was eating absentmindedly while discussing with the other two girls a few more ways they could make their little ward more effective. Their chat was interrupted when an older Gryffindor student that Jasmine didn't recognize came to their table.

"Violet Riddle?" he asked.

"That's me." said Violet looking up towards the older student.

"The headmaster wants to meet with you in his office immediately."

"But I just started eating." protested Violet.

"He told me you would have time to eat later, it is important that you go right now. His office i's on the second floor at the end of the Gargoyle corridor behind the statue of the Gargoyle, the password is Bavarian Warmblood." he said before promptly leaving.

Violet turned towards her, confusion clear on her face.

"What did you do?" asked Jasmine as surprised as her friend, there shouldn't be any reason for any of them to be called.

"I haven't done anything." she protested.

"Maybe they want to propose that you join some kind of project." offered Eileen.

"But I haven't tried to enter anything and why would I be called in the middle of dinner."

"I don't know but I think it is better if you go right now you don't want to make him wait." said Jasmine getting more and more nervous by the minute. Her friend nodded and made her way towards the entrance of the Great Hall seemingly with the same poise and grace that she's known for, but Jasmine could tell her friend was nervous. She couldn't help but echo the sentiment.

Violet walked slowly towards the second floor trying to appear as composed and confident as usual. Internally her mind was racing trying to understand why she would be called to the headmaster's office. She didn't fail to notice before leaving the Great Hall that neither Dippet nor Dumbledore had been present at the head table, making her suspicious of the Transformation teacher's involvement in this. There was the possibility that some of the people to whom they were selling the Basilisk items had tattled on them, but the profits they must be making should be enough to keep their mouths shut.

She continued thinking the situation over without any success when she arrived in front of the Gargoyle. She straightened up, made sure that her uniform was in perfect order, and took a deep breath, no matter what she needed to give the best first impression possible.

"Bavarian Warmblood." she said her voice steady and clear.

The gargoyle stepped aside and the wall behind it split open revealing a spiral staircase that was smoothly moving upwards. Violet let herself appreciate for a moment the impressive enchanting prowess of the Hogwarts founders before taking the staircase. The wall closed behind her as they rose higher and higher. Violet wondered if this was a tactic to make any enemy that bypassed the Gargoyle confused and more vulnerable.

Finally, she arrived at a small corridor and at the end of it, there was a finely decorated oak wooden door with a brass knocker in the shape of a Griffin. She took a deep breath to calm herself before she knocked on the door.

"Come in." came an old and fragile voice. Violet opened the door and entered the large circular room. The walls seem to be decorated up to the ceiling with many portraits, most of them seemingly asleep. There were a large number of silver instruments making funny noises and a large, claw-footed, desk behind which there was the current Headmaster of Hogwarts, looking frail and old. Standing next to him was the tall imposing figure of Dumbledore who was looking uncharacteristically severe, not breaking eye contact with her.

Violet had to resist the urge to smirk knowing that the man probably wanted to try her Occlumency once more. She doubted he would be able to enter and even Dumbledore wasn't arrogant enough to try to do it in front of Dippet himself.

"Good morning Headmaster, Professor Dumbledore, I was told you were looking for me." she said bowing slightly.

"Indeed we were, young girl, there has been a rather nefarious incident recently and sadly your name has appeared during the investigation." said Dippet, his voice rather calm despite his words.

"A few months ago, Heiress Longbottom failed to report to me about a detention she had that day." said Dumbledore immediately afterward. "When I asked her why she had failed to show up she genuinely didn't remember about the detention at all. Preoccupied for her safety I did a few scans, which revealed that she was under the influence of a powerful and expertly performed confundus and oblivation." he explained before looking directly towards her eyes once more with a darker look. "I don't think you know, but this kind of attack is considered magical assault, and they are heavily punished especially against an heir of a Noble house."

"Evidently an investigation was immediately started." continued Dippet.

"Heiress Longbottom was scanned by the Department of Mysteries to verify if more magic was performed on her. There were traces of several healing spells and we suspect someone used a dark spell on her as well." said Dumbledore with a serious face.

Violet stayed as impassive as she could not really wanting to show that the news had shocked her at all. She had been careful while casting the confundus spell, making sure that Longbottom would decline to join the club out of her own volition. But when the wards she had put in the hallway activated, telling her that Jasmine was coming she was forced to do what for her was a rushed job. She thought that even a rushed job by her would be more than enough to cover her tracks. She had to fight the urge to grit her teeth in annoyance.

"More in-depth magical analyses were performed while we interviewed her classmates. They told us that she was looking for you and for Heiress Potter for something about help with a class. The results of the magical analysis just came back and were able to pinpoint the moment the attacks were done on the early morning of May 11th between five and seven thirty am. Mrs. Potter was seen at the Slytherin common room for the majority of the morning according to the Slytherin prefects, but no one seems to recall where you were." explained Dumbledore.

Violet was furious they had nothing, they didn't even know for sure that she wasn't in the Slytherin common room yet she had been called. What kind of game was Dumbledore playing? It took all her self-control to not allow her anger to be visible to the eyes of these old fools but she wasn't stupid enough to let her emotions control her right now.

"It was the day after France declared war, right? I think I fell asleep that day, I was barely able to arrive at class in time you can ask Jasmine or Professor Slughorn." she said with the most confidence and calm she could muster.

"Yes, indeed Professor Slughorn has been quite adamant that you aren't the kind of student that would do such a crime. However, Professor Dumbledore claims that you have the ability to cast obliviate and confundus spells and we are investigating everyone with the ability to do such a task. The DMLE is trusting us to conduct the investigation at the moment and we are going to do it to the uttermost extent." said Dippet, in Violet's eyes far too proud of being trusted with the task.

"Indeed and young Mr. Robinson has said that you have used confundus during certain duels. There aren't many students who are able to cast an O.W.L level spell in combat and there aren't many who are able to cast a confundus spell strong and delicate enough that it isn't obvious to anyone to see." continued Dumbledore.

Violet couldn't contain the urge to clench her teeth at that. Indeed she had used the spell once or twice in combat during their Friday practice. It was a good way of creating openings when she had the moment to concentrate to use the spell.

"I must admit I'm quite curious about how you learned the spell in the first place." said Dumbledore more amicably.

"Jasmine and I frequently try to get a bit ahead of the rest of our peers. it's just that we have a certain facility for magic and a bit too much time in our hands. We have to do something when we finish our transformation homework after all." Violet knew that it wasn't the most subtle of jabs but Dumbledore was making her blood boil in anger. "That's why we aren't able to cast obliviation spells, we know the risks of that particular brand of magic and we wouldn't want to suffer them."

Violet was stil quite amazed that Jasmine's method had worked at all, but she wasn't willing to look a gift horse in the mouth.

"Either way we would like to recollect the memory of the day to examine it and prove your alibi." said Dumbledore with a smile.

Violet was shocked. Jasmine had never talked about people using memories for official investigations, much less for an incident that happened at school.

"Ms. Riddle?" asked Dumbledore.

"Collect my memories?" she said, injecting fear and trepidation into her voice hoping that they weren't going to use a pensive.

"Indeed, magicals have a way to collect the memories of important events and to use them as the anchor for rather simple but very effective scrying rituals using an enchanted object called a pensive. This would allow us to see what actually happened during that memory around the person." Dumbledore explained, making Violet's breath hitch. Jasmine hadn't known many details about how a pensive functioned so she didn't know it was actually a form of divination. In any other circumstance, she may have been intrigued by the possibilities this magic offered but right now she was on the verge of panicking over how to hide her involvement.

"But…would that mean I would lose my memories of that day." she said with fear in her voice that wasn't actually feigned anymore.

"Of course not Miss. Riddle. The magic is rather simple, you just need to think about the memory you want us to copy and a magical copy of it would be created." explained Dippet with an easy smile that felt completely out of place in the tense atmosphere.

Violet's mind went into overdrive trying to think of a way to escape this. She knew that she had zero opportunities to beat Dumbledore in a magical duel, she also couldn't refuse to give them the memory without raising suspicions. To be honest, she had zero ideas if they had any way to legally force her to surrender a memory for a legal investigation, but she wasn't inclined to risk it, especially knowing that her blood status would offer little protection. She knew that her Occlumency was more than strong enough to create a false memory, but how would that interact with the pensive would that be enough to fool it?

"Miss. Riddle, do you consent to give us a copy of your memories of what you did on the 11th of May? It was the day after the French declared war on Germany." explained Dumbledore as if the problem was that she didn't remember what day they were talking about.

Gulping slightly Violet nervously nodded. Dippet and Dumbledore smiled at her once more and Violet couldn't help but feel like a rabbit trapped in a cage. She absolutely hated it. Slowly Dumbledore approached her and pointed his wand toward her temple. Violet used all her experience with Occlumency hastily forming a fake memory of the day that followed the story she had told. She saw a thin platinum thread come out of her temple and stuck to the tip of Dumbledore's wand. Violet's eyes didn't leave the flowing and delicate looking thread even when it entered a glass vial that Dumbledore conjured wandlessly in a casual display of his transformation prowess.

"Thank you, Miss Riddle, I'm sure this will clear all our questions." said Dumbledore smiling. Violet nodded wondering if the next time she saw him she would be on her way to Azkaban.
