Chapter 7

.

Connor and Duncan returned to the church to meet with Methos and Amanda. They had to agree as a group whether or not to ally with Jacob and his group.

.

Connor: These people worship evil. For obvious reasons, I don't trust them.

Methos: But admittedly, we do have a common enemy.

Connor: What if we do? We ally with them, it justifies everything that Horton and his disciples have ever believed about us. I say we fight this cult, and if any of us still remain standing, we deal with these watchers then.

Amanda: How many of these cult members are even still standing?

Amy: Four.

.

The group turned around and found a young woman named Amy Brennan-Thomas.

.

Duncan: Who are you?

Amy: My name is Amy, and I'm a watcher.

Methos: She's also Joe Dawson's daughter.

Duncan: Joe has a kid?

Methos: Yeah, I helped him rescue her. Long story.

Duncan: Okay, I trust her.

Connor: I don't. Maybe Joe can be trusted, but except for apparently Methos, none of us know this girl. And I'm still not really sure which watchers can be trusted.

Amy: I come bearing information from my father.

Connor: Where did he get this information?

Amy: A source in England, from the watcher's headquarters. The leadership is still debating whether to help you, so Joe can't really say who gave it to him.

Methos: What's the intel?

Amy: The four cult members left, I have their files. One is Vlad, from Russia. His adoptive parents were killed by the tsar's forces in the early 19th century, so he joined the bolshevicks mainly for revenge.

Duncan: I know him, we fought together during the October Revolution.

Connor: I forgot you used to be a communist.

Duncan: I was never a true believer, but I'd seen some of the horrors of absolute capitalism. For awhile, I was cautiously optimistic about marxism. Wasn't the first time I was wrong about an idealology, or the last.

Amy: There is also Mirabeau, his first death was during the haitian revolution. After that he developed a reputation as a brave fighter who could not be killed. Since then he fought in the american civil war for the union, and last we heard he was in Afghanistan working for the taliban.

Connor: I know him, he and I fought together in the civil war.

Amy: The only woman in the cult that we know of is Grace. She's maybe 1,000, even though she looks like she's 16 or 17. Grace was known for leading witch burnings. Since then she's been a pirate, involved in the slave trade. She's fought duels against mortal women with pistols, suspected to have collaborated with the nazies. In the 1950s Grace seduced a defense department employee and sold the intel to the KGB. Last we heard she works at an abortion clinic.

Amanda: I know her. We first met in the 18th century at the Pirate Republic. I was part of Benjamin Hornigold's faction, she was part of Henry Jennings' faction. We've had an on-again off-again friendship for nearly 300 years. We used to help liberate casket girls in New Orleans. I don't know exactly what caused her to outright worship evil. But the last time we saw each other was 1992. Grace wanted to have some fun and play Thelma and Louise, so we robbed a bank. Noone got hurt.

Amy: It's unclear when any of these four began worshipping evil, but the last one, Jacob, he might very well be the oldest immortal still around.

Methos: I think I might know him. When I left the four horseman, he tried to replace me.

Amy: He's been everything, slave-trader, nazi, false god, and most recently a debt collector.

Connor: How many immortals are left total?

Amy: As far as we know, it's these four, and you four.

Amanda: Eight immortals, that's it?

Amy: Yes. Four against four.

Methos: I'm not sure we should fight them, not until we know which watchers are trying to kill us.

Amy: I assure you, the organization is doing all it can to stop these rogues.

Duncan: What do you think Connor?

Connor: We each know at least one of these cult members, have some history with them. We talk to the ones we trust, try to reason with them, if nothing else try and find out what they know. But speak with them on holy ground. Even this cult wouldn't dare to break that rule. But for God's sake be careful.
