Chapter 1: The Beginning

(Normal POV)

KaibaCorp facilities were universally glossy, high-tech, and devastatingly clean, and the ground control for the Duel Dimension System was no exception. The staff was small, for a project so momentous. Easier to keep it under wraps during testing. Only a handful of employees in suits and lab coats milled around, reading data and running simulations on blue holographic screens.

Mokuba had other things to do. By all rights, Mokuba had a packed schedule, and nothing here needed his attention. Yet here he was, nervously hovering around, staring at dashboards of buttons and a dozen screens, trying not to get in the staff's way. Awkwardly trying to think of something to say. Seto was spending so much time up there lately, testing and tinkering, shut up in his lab for days. How else was Mokuba supposed to talk to him? His vital sings beeped away on a live feed, steady and sure. This seemed comforting. Mokuba ran his fingers through his hair and adjusted his tie for the seventh time. Now or never. Deep breath.

Mokuba put on a smile and opened a videocall. "Big bro! The new duel disk sales numbers are in. It's a big hit." Good new to get through. A distraction, for both.

"Thank you for the update, Mokuba, but I really need to concentrate right now." A gentle dismissal.

Another deep breath. Time to raise the more difficult subject. The real reason I was here. "Are you sure you want to go through with this? We haven't even tested the prototype. Its too dangerous!"

Nothing.

"…. Seto?" Dead silence. Like he hadn't even heard him. Yet the numbers were going up. Something was happening. "Seto!"

"Its time. Mokuba, you're in charge." A goodbye, in other words.

"Seto, promise you'll come back." A plea.

There was a moment. Not a long one, but long enough for Seto to hear the question. Long enough to answer it. Long enough for Mokuba to notice the silence. Enough to feel a bolt of panic.

"Duel Dimension System, activate." And with a glorious sound of shrieking metal, each piece moving perfectly, Seto Kaiba began his journey. He had surpassed this dimension, transcended what was previously thought possible, and soon would surpass the king of games himself.

(Seto POV)

I slowly opened my eyes, realizing my machine had work…. I was in Egypt….three thousand years ago. I slowly stepped out of the machine and quickly activated my cloaking device making my clothes look like they belong from that time era. My objective…. was to find Atem. I started walking through the dessert stopping by every person asking if anybody knew where to find the pharaoh. I was about to start my journey back to the machine as it seems like hours have gone by when finally, a woman instructed me that the pharaoh was in the large gray building just up ahead past the pond. I continued my journey until I reached the building, slowly walking in looking around at the place until I heard a voice.

"Seto Kaiba….in the flesh."

"Pharaoh?"

A dark shadow started walking towards him until he got in the light revealing that it was in fact Atem.

"How on earth are you here?" Atem asked

"That's not the problem here. Long story short I had Ishizu work on a potion for months now for you to take so you can come back to our time."

"What?"

"Yes. Here." I said as I tossed the potion to Atem. "As soon as you drink it, she said it will make your body capable of living in our timeline being the same age as everybody else. You will be able to keep your own body and everything."

"That…. that's great, but why do you have two?"

"In case one breaks. Now its your choice if you come or not. I'll be back in an hour so have your decision by then."

I turned away and headed out the left side of the building noticing it was towards the city.

"She's buried on the outskirts of town, just follow the blue petals…."

I stopped in my track, how did the pharaoh know what I was looking for…..I continued my walking leaving the pharaoh.

(Mokuba POV)

It's been a full forty-eight hours since Seto left. So many thoughts have been running through my head. Did he make it? Did it get stuck in another dimension? Is he going to come back? What happens if he doesn't? What if….

"Mister Mokuba. The reports are here for the meeting." Roland walked in clearing my mind

"Thank you, Roland. I can always count on you."

I grabbed the reports and headed down to the meeting room. This was the first meeting I was going to have to do on my own, no Seto, no just sitting there and listening. I was in charge…. this was my company for right now.

"Good afternoon gentleman…." I said as the doors behind me slowly closed.

*Egypt*

(Seto POV)

I can't believe I found her, I can't believe I dug up a grave, I cant believe I'm here trying to help people…..what has become of me. These thoughts keep running through my head as I walk back towards the building carrying Kisara in my arms. Ishizu was correct, the potion brought her back to life, yet she has not woken up yet.

"So, you did come back for her too? Do you like her or something" Atem asked looking at me?

"Don't worry about it. Are you coming?"

"Yes."

"Then follow me."

I walked out of the building with Atem to make the long journey across the desert again back to the machine. I'm hoping the machine is still there, I'm hoping that it's going to work and take us back home. I'm hoping Mokuba is okay and not harmed.

"You came back in this?" Atem asked as we approached

"Yes. Its just a protype though"

"You don't even know if its going to get us back?!"

"Nope just trusted my own brains on this one." I said as I laid Kisara in the back. "Now get in,"

Atem hopped in the front as I got in as well. I rested all the buttons like before and entered the timeline I needed to go back to. Crossing every being of soul, I had left in my body that this was going to work, that this was going to bring us back home. I closed the lid, closed my eyes, took a deep breath and pushed the button.

(Mokuba POV)

Day three of no sleep. I don't know how Seto does it, I've drank so many energy drinks its unreal, but I can't sleep. Not without Seto in the house, not without a sure thing that he is coming back, not….

"Mister Kaiba!" a voice yelled catching my attention

"Uh?"

"Are you going to daydream or join us in lecture today?" Miss Apple asked

Shoot I forgot I was in school "Sorry Miss Apple…"

"Now then as I was saying." Then the intercom dinged "Oh goodness what now.

"Yes"

"Miss Apple, we need Mokuba Kaiba to come to the office please. He won't be returning to class."

"Mokuba, go on."

I sat there dazed, confused, scared a little. Why was I being called to the office? Why was I not coming back? Did something happen? Did Seto not make it?! I quickly gathered up my things and ran out the door to the elevator to go to the office. I felt like it was taking ages for the elevator to go down to the first floor but as soon as it did and the doors open I saw him….Seto….standing in front of me with his grin he makes.

"Seto?...Seto!" I screamed dropping everything and running towards him. "You're back!"

"Of course. Why wouldn't I be?"

"How did it go? Did you make it? What was it like? Did you find Atem? Did he come back with you?"

"Slow down. One question at a time. I'll explain on the way home."

I grabbed my things and gladly followed my brother out the door and into his car. I was so happy to have my brother back, so happy that he was safe.

"Everything was a success. I found the pharaoh and he agreed to come back. He's currently at the lab with the doctors getting vitals and watching everything to make sure there's no reaction from the potion Ishizu gave us."

"Wow! That's awesome! This is all so exciting I can't wait to see him again."

"How has things been here? How long was it in time here? It only took me four hours there."

"It's been 80hrs here."

"Three full days? Got to work on the time elapsed process"

"Other than that, everything been good. We haven't had anything really happen at work, I remembered to go to school each day and I haven't been to sleep since you left."

"What?! Why have you not been to sleep?"

"I can't. I tried the first night you were gone but being in the house all by myself was lonely and I just couldn't do it. So, I've been drinking energy drinks pretty much to keep me awake."

"You know how I feel about those."

"I know and I tried coffee at first, but I didn't like it. I don't know how you drink that stuff."

"We'll deal with this later."

Over this talking I didn't realize we had already made it back to KaibaCorp already. We walked in and straight to the elevator to head up to the lab. I couldn't wait to see the pharaoh. I wonder if he remembers any of us or if he still looks the same.

"Hey Mokuba." Atem said as soon as we walked in the door.

"Pharaoh! You're here! You look great!"

"Thanks. Your brother is a real genius."

"Don't fill his head with that stuff." I laughed as I slowly looked over and noticed there was a girl sitting up in the other bed. "Who's that?"

"Pharaoh, who are these people?" she asked now looking over at us.

"We are the ones who saved you." Seto said joining us

"Seth? No your clothes are different. Where am I? What are these things sticking out of me?"

I walked over to the young girl's bed hoping I could calm her down a little.

"Mokuba Kaiba is my name. These machines is what making you healthy. Checking all your vitals and making sure you are getting enough liquids."

"Mokuba. I'm Kisara."

"Kisara. That's a pretty name. If you need anything just ring this button on your bed and one of these nice gentlemen in the white coats will help you."

I walked away and joined Seto on the upper deck looking over the two patients we had at the time.

"Bro, who's the girl? Did you back her back too?"

"Her name is Kisara. Yes, she's from that timeline. Its hard to explain right now but….I felt a connection to her…like a relationship connection."

My jaw just dropped, staring at my big brother in disbelief. My brother. The Seto Kaiba. The cold-hearted Kaiba the magazines read. Likes a girl. And he risked his life to bring her back? What did I miss?

A/N: first story hoping to get some R&R. Thanks!
