Another scraggly line bloomed along the pavement, a soft pink that made the little girl's eyes brighten.

Another free recess day, one that the kindergartener was eager to make the most of. She'd brought her own bucket of chalk from home today, hoping to use it.

Sakura sat back on her haunches and observed the beginnings of a flower. The petals were done, now was time for the stem...

"What are you doing?"

She squeaked, whirling around with wide eyes to see the class's most popular boy staring at her with inquisitive dark eyes.

Sasuke tilted his head, glancing from her to her chalk drawing. "You have chalk?"

"Y- yeah," she nodded rapidly, looking away before her blushing face could give away her embarrassment.

"Can I draw too?" He knelt beside her, a small smile on his face, reaching for the bucket.

"Uh, sure!" She blurted, pushing the bucket towards him.

Unfortunately, she was a bit too hasty, and the bucket tipped and sent the colors spilling out. The red bumped into the boy's knee, and he picked it up with a hum.

"Sorry," she mumbled quietly. If her cheeks weren't already pink, by now they were surely red as the chalk.

"S'okay," he shrugged. "I got the color I wanted."

He set the chalk aside and righted the bucket, and together they began fitting the chalk back into it. Sakura set it aside and grabbed the green, bending slightly to give her flower a proper stem and leaves.

The two scribbled in silence, every so often replacing the chalk and grabbing another from the bucket.

After a couple of minutes, both reached for the bucket.

Sakura startled when she felt Sasuke's hand over hers, and when the two looked at each other they realized they were both reaching for the yellow.

The pinkette squeaked again, pulling away as if shocked. She covered her burning hot face with her hands, leaving Sasuke to take the yellow in confused silence.

A soft tap at her shoulder made her peek through her fingers.

Sasuke gestured to his drawing: it was two crudely-illustrated chibi figures, one in blue and the other in pale yellow. It took her only a second to realize he drew the both of them holding hands with bright smiles on their faces.

She looked over at him with shock as he flashed her a small smile of his own.

"Thanks for letting me draw with you," he said quietly, flicking away a pebble from the sidewalk.

Sakura opened her mouth to say something, but at that moment the bell rang and the teacher began calling for everyone to come inside.

"C'mon, let's go," he said, extending a hand dirtied with colorful chalk dust.

She blinked before a beaming grin brightened her face and she grabbed the chalk pail with one hand, grasping his hand in the other.
