I sat on a hallway bench, thinking about the odds on if I'd have to fight villains today. Yaoyorozu sat down beside me. We were silent for a few minutes.
"I think the worst part about it, is that I know you went and hunted down the others. I was waiting, mad and embarrassed, for my turn. I'm now angry and completely humiliated that you gave me a pass." She stated. She was looking up at the ceiling.
"Todoroki was too obsessed with showing off for his dad. Kaminari was just being a silly hype guy. Ida, I'll admit, didn't actually think y'all would walk away from that victorious, but I'm still sore that his team with Araki outsmarted me that one time." I explain. Yaoyorozu shook her head and looked me in my face.
"All of that just sounded like an excuse to single me out. It's ok to say the reason you didn't want to rub eliminating me in my face, is because we're friends, Kibo." Momo said.
Friends? Were we though? Class 1-A was fun, but did I have actual friends here?
"Hello, Kibo, nice to meet you." my counselor told me.
"My name is Unchi Inga." She smiled at me.
"I want to start off by asking you a simple, but very invasive question." She paused.
"Go ahead, I don't promise to answer." I responded.
"Are you happy?" She leaned forward, uncomfortably staring into my eyes.
"What is your quirk?" I ask. I should have asked that, first thing. She grinned.
"I was going to tell you after you answered, but ok. Usually, I don't mention it until my patient does. There is a more professional name for my quirk on the record, but I call it Anti-Bullshit. The more you lie to me, the easier it is for me to tell when you lie. Lie to me consecutively enough, powerfully enough, and often enough, and not only will I always know when you're lying, but I will also know what exactly the truth is that you are lying about." Her grin grew with how tense I got.
"My quirk does not consider less than 100% truth, a lie. Tell me a fair portion of your truth, and my quirk is useless. Ofcourse, if you just remain unresponsive, you are guaranteed to be immune to my quirk." She leans back in her seat.
"Why do this? You could do police work, government, alot more than be a counselor." I ask.
"Yujin could do a lot more than just take the general course. It's not always about efficiency, Kibo. This job is where my heart is." Unchi finished.
"Well, to answer your question, yes, I'm happy."
"That's good to hear. Unless you actually want to talk about the USJ incident, I have a topic I want to get into." She waited for my input. I shook my head.
"I have info that makes it pretty clear you've always been praised for your abilities. Makes sense, considering everything you've capable of. But there's something else. More specifically, your former classmates social media." She paused. I knew where this was going.
"You were cyber bullied, publicly. All sorts of things. Normal behavior by kids that young, but still. There's also that report of that hero who almost attacked you, just based on how you look. You've been truly blessed, Kibo, but the downside of your gifts are obvious." She gave me a sympathetic look.
"Are we really doing this? 63% of captured villains either look weird, or have an easily vilified quirk. 70% of quirks that have something to do with blood, are linked to criminal activity, for example. It's the society we leave in. No one worth anything hasn't learned to get used to it." I cross my arms.
"No one worth anything, you say? Then 63% of those people simply weren't worth anything?" She asked.
"Yes." I bluntly answer.
"I think, Kibo, that no-one ever gets used to it. I think, that the reason every single reference from your former school considers you an angel, while your teachers here at UA would call you openly antagonist, is that you were over correcting. Something changed, and you stopped caring so much about people's opinions. That's good, but you then decided that treating your new friends rudely was better than being a suck up." Unchi tried to psych analyze me.
"This is a wasted effort. I don't have any new friends." I got out of my seat.
"Do you mean to tell me, that Yujin Murasaki is your only friend?" Unchi asked, not moving to try and stop me from leaving.
"Yes." I exit the room
Present
Why was I so adverse to the idea of having another friend?
"Yeah, sorry, Yaoyorozu. I didn't want to be a complete arse to you because you're my only friend in this class." I admitted. Momo nodded.
"Call me Momo, Kibo. I'm still mad at you, but it can't be helped. And don't write off the rest of the class. I don't think Hanta and Kyouka would be happy to hear you don't think they're your friends."
"It's time for the 1st match! Yujin Murasaki from the general course, versus Mashirao Ojiro from class 1-A!" Present Mic announced.
There were multiple times to attack. For mass carnage, attacking in the 1st game would be fitting. The easiest attack would be right now, with everyone who didn't make it this far being in the stands with the normal audience. But the most likely success would be after Kibo is tired. If I was planning this out, I'd attack as soon as someone starts pushing him or has already handed him his ass.
I knew more about the League of Villains than I had let Nezu and Kibo know, but there's a lot I just can't let them know yet.
"You were carried this far by Kibo, I hope you can stand on your own." Ojiro got into a familiar stance.
"I'll give you my best, that's all I can promise." I get into a countering form.
Ojiro attacked first. He threw 2 jabs at Yujin. Neither connected. As a reward, Ojiro received a punch to his inner elbow. Ojiro's next attack was far more dramatic. A leap and spin, into a swinging attack from his tail. Yujin twisted on his feet, avoiding the tail, and kicked into Ojiro's shoulder.
"Look at those sweet moves! Mashirao Ojiro's quirk is clear to see! He has a mighty tail that can be used for offense and limited movability. Yujin Murasaki's quirk is far more subtle. He can read your mind! For a student who applied first and only to the general course, it has a surprising amount of use in combat. He can know what you're planning to do in an instant!" Present Mic roared.
Yujin went on the offensive, and Ojiro didn't stand a chance. Every block and dodge Ojiro managed just left him open to a more punishing attack. Yujin finished the match, by kicking Ojiro in the jaw, sending him out of bounds.
"Your friend is actually good." Araki told me.
"A bit. He won't get much further than that." I shrug.
"Yeah, I agree. You were merciless in the cavalry battle. Going to crush whoever you face in the tournament?" Araki asked, looking over where Kirishima and Kaminari were talking with Jiro and Hagakure.
"Yes, but not for a petty reason. Or atleast, not as petty. I can't play around and give someone a chance to tire me out. I'm not convinced that Kurogiri won't attack." I explain.
"Deku told me he was worried about that, too. It's definitely a valid concern. I don't have infinite stamina, but I can't bring myself to hold out on the chance they'll attack again. I'll be relying on you, All Might, and the other pro heroes to make it where I don't need to save everything I have for healing." Araki explained.
It was a selfish kind of logic, not exactly heroic. But it was the same logic everyone else was using. Otherwise, no one would actually try in these games, and save all of their energy for a potential attack.
Unchi Inga is even more on the noise of a name than Yujin Murasaki XD
I just don't do subtlety in names.
