Izuku Midoriya wakes up with a heavy weight on his chest. He opens his eyes and looks down to see what was on top of him.
Ferrous, the devil that she is, has decided that the best place to sleep would be directly on top of him. 'Of course.' He rubs his eyes and slowly sits up. He lifts his monster of a cat off his chest and picks up his phone to check the time. To his surprise, he has an unread text message.
Uraraka(8:10 PM): Good night, Midori
He just got a text. From a girl. Is he still asleep? Ferrous's tail slapping against him reminds him that he is in fact awake and not dreaming right now.
'Okay uhhh… How do I respond to this? What should I say? I wasn't able to respond last night because I was asleep, should I apologize for that? Or should I just pretend that it didn't happen? Oh god what do I do…
After about a half an hour of mumbling and talking to Ferrous about all of his options he sends a text.
Midoriya(6:34 AM): Good morning, Uraraka!
It was perfect. He just sent his first text message to someone who wasn't his mom! Amazing! He smiles as he gets up from his bed, getting dressed in his uniform and packing his trip to the school that day was quiet, hardly anybody was on the train today. Which made it even more shocking when he got to U.A and there was a massive crowd outside the door.
"Hello, young boy! Can you tell us what it's like having All Might as a teacher?" A camera and microphone are suddenly pushed into his face. Forcing him to come up with a response on the spot.
"Uhhh… He's All Right!" Wow. That was a stretch. I'm just going to go and die of embarrassment now. That's probably gonna get aired on TV… oh god. He quickly pushes past the interviewer, avoiding any more sudden questions as he heads into U.A.
The classroom is mostly silent when he walks in, it seems like he got here earlier than mostly everyone. Only Iida and Yaoyorozu were seated inside the classroom, studying and reading a book respectively.
Welp, might as well talk to Iida.
He walks over to Iidas desk and waves, giving him a smile. "Hey, Iida! Did the media run into you on the way in here as well?"
"Oh, hello Midoriya!" Iida looks up from whatever he was studying. 'I have no idea how he's studying on just the second day, though I'm not one to speak, I guess…'
"The media did speak to me as well, they were looking to discover what All Might was like as a teacher. I simply told them what I knew." Ah, okay. Knowing Iida he probably carried on for about five minutes straight just talking about All Might's lessons.
"Yeah, they asked me the same kind of questions. I hope they don't actually show my answer though. I might have embarrassed myself a bit…" Izuku shivers as he remembers the awful joke he made.
"Hmm… I suppose learning to interact with the media is another part of heroics we will have to get used to…"
They settled into casual conversation as more students filtered through the doors, waiting for homeroom to begin.
"Hiya Midori!" Oh! It's Uraraka! She waves and walks over towards Izuku and Iida.
"The media is going crazy outside… they kept asking what I thought of All Might as a teacher…" She let's out a tired sigh.
"Yeah, they did the same to us. What'd you say to them?"
"I told them that he's super tall! And buff!" She smiles as she sits down at her desk.
"How does All Might's height correlate to his teaching abilities…?" Iida questions her.
"Uhhhh… so that he can teach better? Duh." Uraraka giggles like it was the most obvious thing in the world that taller teachers were somehow better at teaching.
But before Izuku has time to respond to her, the bell rings. Alerting him to the start of homeroom. He heads off back to his desk, giving Iida and Uraraka a small wave.
Aizawa stood in front of the class, a dead expression on his face. 'Wait. That's just his normal expression.'
"Good work with yesterday's battle training everybody. I have looked over all of your grades and evaluations." Aizawa then turns his head to Kacchan.
"Bakugou. Grow up. You're wasting your talent." 'What?! Did he really just say that?! Kacchan is going to blow up!'
But he doesn't. The normally angry boy just grimaces and nods his head. Only saying "Got it." and then remaining quiet.
Before Izuku had the time to unpack that, Aizawa then turned his attention to him instead.
"Midoriya. You're relying too much on your quirk. I've signed you up for an extracurricular exercise course. Taught by me. Head straight to the gym after your classes end."
'Oh. I knew my stamina was bad, but not so bad that I'd have to be made to exercise by Aizawa… No! There's no time to be upset! This is a great opportunity to actually get stronger! I can do it!'
"Yes sir, I understand." He nods his head.
"Great, now back to business. I apologize for the sudden announcement but today… You'll pick a class president." Aizawa gives them a bored look.
"CLASS PRESIDENT?!" the class shouts out together, making their stoic teacher wince.
A wave of shouts comes from the class.
"I wanna be president! Let me do it!"
"I'd like to do it."
"In my office all girls will have to show off thirty centimeters of thigh!"
"This position was made for me."
"I wanna be a leader!"
Everyone was desperate for the position of class president, normally this wouldn't be such a big deal. But this was U.A. Being the class president in such a prestigious hero school would impress pros and give you lots of attention.
"Everyone! Quiet down! Leading the class is a heavy responsibility! But ambition does not equate to ability! In order to prove whoever gets the position deserves it, we should put this up to a vote!" Iida speaks out above the crowd.
"But we haven't known each other long enough to build any trust, ribbit." Asui counters.
Kirishima also calls out to Iida, pointing at him. "Yeah! And everyone will just vote for themselves!"
"That is precisely why anyone who earns multiple votes will be best suited!"
Iida looks at Aizawa for permission. "Will you allow this, sensei?"
Aizawa is already inside his sleeping bag and looks like he's about to pass out. "Yeah sure, do whatever you want. Just hurry up."
And with that they held the election, taking their votes. Izuku ended up winning with three votes, Yaoyorozu got second with two.
"Who the hell voted for Deku?!" Bakugou yells out as he sees the results. Uraraka just let out a nervous chuckle in response.
Iida ended up with zero votes, despite planning the election.
"Alright. So Midoriya will be your class president, and Yaoyorozu will be the vice president. It's settled." Aizawa spoke while getting out of his yellow cocoon.
'W-What?! Who even voted for me?! All I've done here is make stupid jokes and mutter all of the time! What idiot voted for me?!'
After the commotion of homeroom, classes continued as normal.
At lunch Izuku sat down with Uraraka and Iida just like he did the day before. 'It still feels kind of strange having actual friends to sit with at lunch.'
"I'm a little worried about whether or not I can actually be a good class president… I've never done anything like this before in my old school…" He decides to tell his worries to his friends.
"It's okay Midori! I know you'll do great!" Uraraka gives him a fist bump that he anxiously returns.
"Yes. You will be a great leader, Midoriya. Your intelligence and decisiveness will make you a great president. That is why I voted for you." Iida nods his head.
"But Iida, didn't you wanna be president? You wear glasses and everything." Uraraka states like it was obvious. 'What does that have to do with being president…?"
"Yes, I do want to be president, but ambition and suitability are different issues. I made the choice I thought was correct."
He takes a sip of orange juice, slightly taking away from how cool his speech would have been.
"Hey Iida, the way you talk… you're secretly a rich kid, huh?" 'Wow, Uraraka. Way to be blunt about it!'
"I don't like people knowing so I try to hide it… but yes. I come from the Iida family of heroes. I am the second son."
"Whoa, that's so cool!"
"Do you know of The Turbo Hero, Ingenium."
"Of course! So that's what your costume seemed familiar to! I thought I recognized it from somewhere!" Izuku was honestly freaking out. 'I can't believe he's related to Ingenium! That's so cool!'
Iida grins and smiles, nodding his head. "Yes! He is my brother! He is the one who inspired me to become a hero! My brother leads everyone with an unwavering dedication to the rules." Iida looked so happy to be talking about his older brother.
"Wow Iida, I've never seen you smile like that before! He must mean a lot to you, huh?" Uraraka looks at him with wide eyes.
"Yes, I want to become a great leader just like my brother." He smiles as if reminiscing about his brother.
And then the alarm sounds.
Tenya Iida is eating his lunch with his friends when suddenly a shrill alarm sounds on the building. Making everyone look around, terrified.
And then the intercom speaks up. "Security level three has been broken. All students. Please evacuate in an orderly fashion."
He speaks up to a student running from the lunch room. "What does security level three mean?!"
The boy yells back to him. "It means someone has infiltrated the building! This hasn't happened once in my three years! Anyway, you gotta hurry up and get out."
A massive crowd of students floods the halls, all of them trying desperately to make it towards an exit. As he's being pushed around, Iida spots the press outside a window, all grouped together. They must have been the intruders!
"Everyone! It's just the media! There's no danger! Everyone calm d-" he's cut off when an overeager student elbows him against the wall. Everyone is shouting and couldn't hear or notice him anyways.
'What would Midoriya or my brother do at a time like this?! Think, Iida!'
He spots Uraraka being swept up in the crowd, a plan formulating in his mind as he calls out to her. "Uraraka! Make me float!" he reaches his hand out and gives hers a slap, feeling his weight disappear.
As he begins floating, he sees Midoriya. "Midoriya! Push me to above the exit sign! I need to calm everybody down!"
Midoriya nods his head in understanding. "Got it!" And then he uses his quirk to push Iida, the taller boy floating and landing against the wall above the exit sign. He stands in a strange pose as he calls out.
"Everyone… EVERYTHING IS FINE…! IT IS JUST THE MEDIA! THERE IS NO NEED TO BE ALARMED!"
Everyone in the hallway stares at him and begins calming down upon realizing there is no real threat inside of the school. After a few laughs at Iida's expense, they all head back to the cafeteria calmly.
After all of the chaos of lunch, everyone returned back to their classes, the media who broke into the school were taken in by the police.
Izuku Midoriya stands before his class with Yaoyorozu at his side, they're supposed to be picking the other members of the class office, but Izuku knows he isn't right for this job.
"E-Everyone! I would like to step down from my position as Class President…! I am not the right fit for being a leader, I think it would be best if Yaoyorozu were the president instead… And Iida should be the vice president!"
It was only fair to Yaoyorozu that she became the president after people had voted for her, but after all Iida had done during the media invasion, Midoriya knew he'd be the best fit for vice president.
"You all saw how Iida took action during the emergency to calm everyone down! He will be a better leader than me." Izuku bows before the class.
Aizawa sits on the ground in his sleeping bag, slurping from a jelly pouch. "Whatever, just get it all over with…"
"I will gladly accept! Thank you for this position Midoriya! It is an honor!" Iida does an overly deep bow of respect and the class cheers him on, excitedly talking about their new vice-president.
xxxx
The staff of U.A. all gather outside the entrance, looking at what had been done during the invasion. The door to the school was completely disintegrated. Reduced to ash.
"No ordinary reporter could have done this. Someone instigated this affair. Did some evildoer slip in…? Or did they have more sinister intentions…" The principal, Nezu, grins and takes a sip from his cup of tea as he stands before the ruined door.
After that hectic day of school, all Izuku wanted to do was go home and lay in bed with his annoying cat, but he still had Aizawa Sensei's physical training lesson.
He groans as he puts on his gym uniform and heads out to the gymnasium where he was told to be.
When he steps inside of the building there are already two people there. A blonde boy he vaguely recognizes as someone from class 1-B and a lanky boy with purple hair, who's eyebags outclass even his own.
'You need to make a good impression 'Zuku! Let's start with a friendly joke!'
He walks up to the two of them and waves a hand. "Hello! What's a magnet's favorite theme park ride?"
When he's met with silence he speaks out the punchline. "The polar coaster!" Still silent. The boys just look vaguely annoyed at his existence. 'Why?! I stayed up all night thinking of that one! Uraraka would have laughed at it…' he sighs and stands next to them, waiting for Aizawa to arrive.
"It looks like the 1-A student was the last to arrive, huh? Typical." The blonde boy, Izuku has no idea what his name is, makes a rude remark and laughs.
"Huh? Why are you antagonizing Class 1-A? I don't think either of our classes have even met each other yet…?" Izuku tilts his head.
The blonde boy looks at him with a slightly confused expression. He looks like he hadn't ever actually considered why he is so opposed to Class 1-A.
"I-I'm doing it because all of you are so full of yourselves! Thinking you're so much better than us just because you're a letter up the alphabet!"
Izuku counters his frankly nonsensical train of reasoning. "I think it's just that you have an inferiority complex. You seem like the only one considering yourself less than us…"
The egotistical blonde looks baffled and the purple-haired guy just looks annoyed that he has to be witnessing this interaction at all.
And then, before any more arguing could happen, Aizawa strolled into the gym. "Hello. I am Aizawa and I will be teaching you. You are the only three students who signed up for this, though two of you were forced to because of your lacking physical abilities."
He speaks in a flat tone and looks over all three of them. "State your name and quirk so that you may become acquainted. And make it quick. We don't have all day."
The blonde decides to speak up first without any prompting. "My name is Neito Monoma! And my quirk is Copy, it allows me to copy other people's quirk by touching their skin."
'He might be annoying but his quirk sure is cool!'
Taking the opportunity, Izuku speaks up after him. "U-Uhh my name is Izuku Midoriya and my quirk is repulsion of matter! It lets me push stuff away!"
And with that, it was the purple boy's time to speak. He sighs and looks down at his feet. "Hitoshi Shinso. My quirk is brainwashing." He looks almost regretful to have to speak about his own quirk.
Without thinking at all, Izuku decides to comment. "Wow! Brainwashing! That must be useful for doing dishes! Hah!" he giggles and Shinso just looks at him slightly upset.
"Why? Because I can make people do it for me? Is that what you're saying?" His tone is aggressive but resigned, as if he's been told such things before.
"Huh? Not at all. I just meant like.. brain washing? You can wash stuff with your brain? Sorry, it wasn't very clever…" Shinso looks at Izuku like he's insane and then just barely smiles.
"You really don't hate my quirk?" He speaks in slight disbelief.
"Of course not! That's a super handy power! Unless your quirk is actually washing things with your brain…"
"Hah! Brainwashing is a great quirk! You'd make for a great member of 1-B." Monoma decides to butt in without anyone asking him to. 'At least he isn't quirkist I guess? Though his way of showing it is pretty strange.'
Aizawa speaks out over them. "Enough talking. We have work to do. All three of you rely far too much on your quirk. While you are in this room none of you are allowed to use your quirk at all. If you do, you're expelled."
'What?! That sounds pretty drastic!'
"If you all understand then let's continue. This class is supposed to teach you in physical training and self defense. But we'll only be focusing on the physical training until you are ready."
And with that, he made them run laps around the gym until Izuku felt like he was going to puke. Seriously, how long would he have to keep going?! His two training partners both seemed equally as tired as they ran, they've been at this for about half an hour.
"That's enough. I have a good understanding of your physical abilities and limits now." Aizawa finally decided to end their torture and Izuku fell onto his knees in relief. Thank god.
"The three of you have a lot of work to do to get to a passable level. I expect you to put in your most effort. Plus Ultra and all that jazz." 'Oh god, am I going to have to do this every other day from now on?!'
"Great, let's move on to weight lifting now." Aizawa opens up a gym closet full of weights and all three of the students groan.
"Seriously?! Haven't we already done enough?!" Monoma whines and Izuku honestly can't blame him, he could hardly feel his legs right now.
"Do you think a villain will care if you've done enough? Do you think they'll spare your life just because you put in the bare minimum? Heroics is not some game." Aizawa scolds him and Monoma relents, walking over and picking up some weights, starting the training.
Two hours passed like that, working every muscle in their body's until they couldn't anymore. All three of them had ended up actually bonding over their shared torture and exchanged phone numbers with one another.
'At least it wasn't all bad.'
Izuku woke up the next morning with his entire body aching, the sleeping Ferrous on top of him didn't help his pain either.
He groaned and got up, doing his morning routine. He swallowed some pain relievers before going out to school.
The day passed as normal up until his Hero Basic Training course. Aizawa stood in front of them once more, explaining the lesson.
"Today we are going to be doing rescue training. Me, All Might, and someone else will be supervising you."
He pulls out a remote and presses a button, the wall opening up to show their costumes. "You are allowed to choose whether or not to wear your costumes for this exercise, some of them are ill-suited for this sort of thing."
After putting on costumes they all headed onto the bus they were going to be riding to get to the rescue training site.
"Hmm? You're deciding to wear gym clothes, Midori?" Uraraka asked while he walked with her towards the bus. He anxiously laughed.
"Uhh yeah, the support course said they were busy fixing it for me, it ended up getting a little bit burnt… they let me keep the belt though!" He points to the white utility belt around his waist, each pocket has his portable cannonballs inside of it.
Iida stood up front, telling them to organize by number on the bus, but his plan got foiled when they walked inside and it was a different type of bus than he expected.
Izuku sat next to Asui as she spoke up to him. "Hey Midoriya, I've been thinking this for a little while now, but you're kind of weird aren't you?"
"W-What?! I'm weird?! What's that supposed to mean?!" He cried on the inside. Did everyone already think he was a freak?!
"I just mean that you mumble to yourself a lot. And tell stupid jokes all the time, ribbit."
'Come on! My jokes aren't even stupid! They're hilarious! Puns are the pinnacle of comedic wit and intelligence! If someone can't understand that then they simply aren't punny enough!' He quickly shut his mouth when he realized he was mumbling, proving her point almost immediately.
"I-I'm sorry if my mumbling is annoying to you, Asui! It's just a habit I ended up developing…"
"It's fine, I don't mind it, ribbit. It's kind of endearing. I'm sure Uraraka thinks the same thing."
Huh? What'd Uraraka have to do with this? Before he has time to unpack that, the conversation somehow switched to quirks. At least that's a familiar topic!
Kirishima was talking about how his quirk wasn't as flashy as some others. "My quirk is good in a fight and all, but it's totally boring."
"I think your quirk is great, Kirishima! You can totally go pro with your quirk! It's really strong."
"Yeah but popularity is important too, I wish I had a flashy quirk like you or Bakugou." Kirishima sighs.
"Bakugou is too rude. He'll never be a popular hero." Tsu decided that it would be a wise decision to mess with the murderous pomeranian.
"What the fuck did you say about me, frog face?! I'll kill you!" Bakugou shouted from the back of the bus.
"See?" She pointed to him as if that explained her point. It kind of did. Everyone in the bus laughed, Kaminari saying how garbage Kacchan's personality is only to get yelled at in response.
'Kacchan is getting bullied, what is happening?!'
Uraraka laughs from the back, sitting next to a slightly flustered Yaoyorozu.
And then after that commotion they all arrived at the USJ.
"Whoaaa! Is this place Universal Studios Japan?" Sero had laughed and commented as they walked into the massive dome, the place was huge.
Izuku looked around in awe as they stepped into the building, there were various type of environments around him, and in the middle of it all stood the hero who would teaching them.
"It's the space hero, Thirteen! They're a hero who specializes in rescue work! So cool!" Izuku fanboyed a bit at seeing the space hero, but for once he wasn't alone.
"I love Thirteen! They're my favorite hero! I always wanted to meet them!" Uraraka bounced with excitement at the sight of her hero, even outclassing Izuku's own enthusiasm. 'She's kind of cute when she gets like this… Shut up, brain!'
Aizawa walked up to Thirteen. "Where's All Might? He was supposed to meet with us here."
Thirteen held up three fingers as they spoke to Aizawa. "It seems he just about reached his limit during his morning commute."
'Huh why did they say it like? Is that a code of some sort…? Could it be… is All Might stuck on the toilet and they don't want to embarrass him…?" Izuku runs through possibilities inside his mind when Thirteen begins discussing the lesson.
"As I'm sure many of you are aware, my quirk is called black hole. It allows me to suck in and tear apart anything." Thirteen explains their quirk and Uraraka was violently bobbing her head. She seemed really hyped about this.
"I use my quirk to save lives, but it could just as easily be used to injure and kill. I'm sure many of you have similar quirks."
Thirteen glanced over the crowd of young heroes. "During All Might's battle training you learned how to fight and battle using your quirks, but during this training you will learn how to save people."
Thirteen bows and Iida claps his hands. "That is all, thank you for listening!"
Aizawa checks his watch as he gets ready to start the lesson when suddenly…
A purple mist starts spreading behind him, directly in the center of the USJ. A man with overly dry skin and a hand on his face walks through the portal first, unsettling the students. And then, more came through. A horde of strangers walking through a portal.
This was their first villain attack. It was only their fourth day.
To be continued…
