The story references my personal headcanon for Rise, that she once drove an ugly looking girl to suicide; you can see that headcanon event on this very story in the "Rise & the goblin fan" chapter.
About the goblin-girl that gets driven to suicide here.
Her name is "Kana". This has multiple meanings:
The most obvious one is that it's just Kanami's name, but shortened. This plays into the whole idea that she wants to be like Kanamin, but is just an ugly looking subhuman; she's less than Kanami.
"Kana" has multiple meanings: It's often used in Japanese as an expression similar to "I wonder?". But the more notable fact here is that "Kana" is comprised of "kari" ("borrowed"/"not true") and "na" (name), giving it the meaning of "borrowed/fake name". Again, this ties into the notion that Kana is essentially trying to piggyback off of Kanami by using her to feel good about herself; something that she doesn't deserve.
I should make note of the fact that the canon of the story is a bit wonky-Realistically there's no place in the timeline where the story can actually happen, as we literally see everyone gathered on the day of Rise's comeback performance in P4D, and it's heavily implied that Nanako is nowhere around at the time, nor that Kanami would be meeting with any competition winner at the time. But just pretend that this slots in somehow, anyway. If you really wanna stretch it, you can make it fit in some way. I mostly just used that as the crunch for the plot, since it's a convenient way to set up the scenario of Nanako being at the Takura productions dressing room.
Anyway, I really like the idea of Nanako growing into a large cacophobe; possibly an even bigger one than any of the others I've done so far.
