"Good morning Detective Burgess. Will you join us in the office please?" Commander Crowley was here. Crap this has to be bad. The looks Kim received walking in this morning were brutal like she betrayed them by keeping Adam a secret. Everyone just watched not knowing what was about to happen. Kim was terrified as she walked into the office.

"Good morning boss, Commander" Kim's voice was shaky. She was so nervous. They couldn't fire her because her relationship is now public, could they? They knew this would come out eventually but this was earlier than they would have liked.

"Do you know why you are here?" The Commander addressed her, Voight sat not saying anything. Very unlike him.

"I would assume it had something to do with my face being all over the media right now. That my relationship with Adam Ruzek is in all the gossip mags. Not sure what that has to do with my job other than not being able to work undercover anymore." She tried to sound strong but her voice did waver a bit.

"You are correct. You are no longer able to work undercover in any department due to your relationship sand I was going to pull you from this unit because of it but Voight has convinced me not to do that. You are an asset to him undercover or not. But please try to stay out of the papers, it looks bad for the department. I'm not really sure why they think it looks bad but they was the message I was to deliver." Crowley was short with her tone. But seemed somewhat annoyed with the situation. But she was moving forward from it and hoped it wouldn't be an issue again.

As they walk out a Platt is coming up the stairs and it sounds like someone's behind her. "Skinny britches! You have a visitor". Kim turns around to see Adam standing there.

"Hey what are you doing here? I thought you had to go to the ball park this morning. The taped message for the fans?" She was thrilled as she hugged him but confused.

He laughed a little and kissed her head while still hugging her. He finally pulled away to answer. "Well since the shit hit the fan I figured you could use some back up. Also the taping won't take that long." He stayed close before he heard a throat clearing behind him. "Crowley? What are you doing here? It's been forever." He looked surprised to see while everyone else just looked shocked.

"How do you know each other?" Kim asked confused. "I hung around the district a lot as a kid. It's good to see you Crowley." Adam said reaching out to shake her hand.

She took it before smiling "You know I never realized that you were one in the same. Not a common name but still. It's good to see you too Adam it's been a long time. You've done well for yourself."

He just smiled nodding at her as she left. Kim pulled him into the break room so they could talk quick. They both had work but this needed to be said. "So Commander Crowley informed me that I'm no longer eligible for undercover assignments no matter what unit I work and that she wanted me removed from the IU because of it but Voight went to bat for me. I still have my job here " All he could do was lean in to kiss her. He was so thankful that it hadn't been worse for her. A knock on the door brought them out of the kiss.

"Some of us would like to get coffee and not watch you two making out or having sex with your eyes so can you break it up so we can come in?" Dawson asked with Halstead and Lindsey behind him. Everyone laughed and continued with the day. Adam left to head to work needing to tape a video for the Jumbotron and for social media to Thank fans for voting for him.

At the ball park Adam put on his Jersey, made sure his hair was good before sitting in front of the camera. He arranged to go a little later in the day so be could check in with Kim. The other two players on his team who are all stars are only going to have their message on the Jumbotron. Adam wanted more to help spread a separate message to fans and the media. It was his turn, he was nervous with what should he say and how to present it. But it only last a moment.

"Good Evening Chicago! I wanted to thank each and everyone of my fans who voted for me around the world. It's because of you all that I have the honor of playing in this years all star game. I wanted this my whole life and I couldn't be happier. I love you all very much for making this happen. I also know the last 24 hours my life has been front and center in the media. I am asking that when I'm with my family please don't approach me. I chose this life, they didn't. If I'm alone then I will be more than happy to sign an autograph or take a photo. Please my family alone, that includes my girlfriend and her son. They are off limits. I know you all can understand. So once again thank you all the votes! I hope I make you proud at the all star game. See ya at the ballpark." With that he was done. He just hoped they listened.

The video went viral! Literally everyone online and I the media was talking about it. Almost like it was hard to believe that he was asking for privacy. That he was calling his girlfriend his family. That she had a son. It was retweeted so many times it broke the internet. It was insane. But he loved. He also hoped that it help not only his family but others as well. They couldn't be the only people in this situation.

Adam proceeded to get in some gym time before his game. Knowing it would be long night be needed to be well prepared for it. He loved working out, it allowed him to release some energy but all block out the world. He didn't see anything else while at the gym. In a way it helped him relax. He learned early on that sports and exercise were a great escape for him when his home life was falling apart. He could run away from it all. There was no fighting, no yelling, no doors slamming shut. He just put on some music and got into the zone. The stronger he was the better he got in baseball and that gave him something to strive for. He didn't want to be cop like his dad, he wanted to play ball. He had to make it happen on his own. Now he's here and he has a family that he loves. It all seemed to be going well for. At least for now. He didn't worry about the future, he lived in the moment. And he was loving it.

The next few weeks go back to a somewhat normal routine. They are happy and in love. Adam feels more and more like Jackson is his son but would never push it on either of them. It's been four months. They got through the media drama and the all star game and came through stronger than before. Tonight was a night off for Adam and a day off for Kim. It didn't happen often so she made the most of it. And had a small surprise for Adam. They still hadn't planned the dinner with his dad but she was ready for more. So she made a copy of her keys for Adam. She wanted to feel at home in her apartment. She even made space for him in the dresser. She'd never done this before but she felt like this was it. This was the one. She knew it in her soul.

Adam got there around 5 to help with dinner but spent most of the time playing with Jackson. They had so much fun together. It was like a father/son bond, only not biologically. But to Kim that didn't matter. Voight always told her "blood doesn't make a family, love does" she will always remember that.

They sat down to eat when Jackson spoke up. He loved to ask questions about everything under the sun. Tonight seemed different. The look of concentration, of determination on his face. "Why don't I have a daddy?" He asked quietly. They both looked at him stunned Kim never thought about how to answer this question. She didn't expect it to come up so soon.

"Well baby you see your daddy wasn't a very good person so when you were born I had him sign away his rights to see you so he wouldn't hurt you. I didn't want him to break your heart. Does that make sense?" Kim held her breath. Hoping it was enough.

"Oh. So he never saw me or knew who I was?" He continued. They knew it was going somewhere but let him lead the way. Adam just sat back and watched. He didn't want to over step.

"He never saw a photo of you or saw you in real life as far as I know. He didn't want to be a dad so when I do see him occasionally it's very uncomfortable to be around him and I want to protect you from that." Kim hoped this would bring about his real question.

"Um well since I don't have a dad, Can Adam be my dad?" He looked down shyly. Like maybe he was asking too much or they wouldn't be okay with that.

"Baby you want Adam to be your daddy?" Kim watched him nod "Well baby if that will make you happy and Adam is okay with it than it's fine by me." Kim looked over at Adam who was stunned, wide eyed but also smiling so big. Tears in his eyes.

"Jackson come here buddy. There is nothing in this world I want more than to be your daddy. From the moment I met you that's all I wanted. I hope I do a good job and you will proud to call me your dad." Adam didn't care that he was crying. This is one of the best moments of his life.

Kim let them be but took a picture of them hugging and sent it to the group work text with the caption Jackson wanted Adam to be his dad. She smiled as the responses poured in. Everyone so happy for the little family of three. As she sat and watched them she realized how is this going to work if they don't live together. Maybe it's no different than co parenting. Maybe they stay at each other's places more. They will figure it out they always do. But for now this was enough. After the tears subsided they all moved to the couch for family movie night, which they just came up with. Jackson stayed curled up into Adams side the whole even falling asleep on him. Eventually Adam did carry him to bed wishing him a good night before placing a kiss on his forehead. Before leaving the room he whispered "I love you Jackson". Right as he was about to close the door he heard I very tired and faint "I love you too daddy" the tears started all over again. A new high point in life had just been achieved. Could it get any better?

When Adam returned Kim noticed the tears, she immediately pulled him into a hug not knowing exactly what happened but knew they were happy tears. "He said I love you too daddy. I'm a blubbering mess all because of that wonderful little boy who I now get to call my son. I want it all Kim but I'm not rushing you. But I want the engagement, the wedding, the house, the kids, the cars, the jobs, the mess, the whole. I want it all with you." She couldn't take it anymore before she crashed her lips onto his. It was full of passion but also love. Pouring every ounce of emotion into the kiss. Only breaking away for air. But they stayed connected. Neither one wanted to move just yet.

"Since we are talking about having it all. I got copies of my keys made for you and I cleaned out some space in the dresser for you so you can feel more at home here. I want this to be your place too. Maybe down the line we find a place together but for now you can come over when ever you want." Kim was so happy with how today has been going. Surprised but thrilled. They really were becoming a real family. She knew they needed to bite the bullet and let their families know but for now that can wait. She handed him the keys as the smile never ended. It seemed to be permanent now they were together. The keys made way into his pocket before picking her up and taking her to the bedroom.

They made love all night. Physically spent they still were tangled into each other. Not wanted to break the connection between them. Not wanting the say anything that could ruin the moment. It was beautiful, it was intense and it was real. This was their real life. Tomorrow they could deal with the outside world. Not now they saw nothing but each other.

Once morning rolled around Jackson was up super early excited to see Adam. Luckily they had dressed before falling asleep otherwise it would been awkward. He jumped on the bed right on top of them. The shock woke they up, annoyed at first till they saw Jackson smiling down at them. "Morning mommy and daddy". It's like his favorite thing to say now. And Adam couldn't get enough of it.

"Morning little man. How about we get ready for school while moms makes some breakfast. Okay?" Adam was jumping in feet first into this. He wanted to soak every moment before the next road trip. Jackson nodded and ran for his room, squealing when Adam picked him up and tossed him over his shoulder to carry him there.

Kim slowly got out of bed before heading to the kitchen. Once the boys were eating she would shower and get ready. Adam would shower at home since he didn't have a lot here yet. That was a work in progress. She could hear them laughing and talking down the hall about what to wear. She could get used to this that's for sure. They all got ready and headed their separate ways. Adam heading home to shower and start his day. Kim took Jackson to day care and then off to work.

When Adam made it home he starting working on a plan, a surprise really. He wanted to redo one of his guest rooms into a room for Jackson. He quickly moved everything into the storage area before deciding to shower and head out to the store. He had never done a kids room before and figured since Kevin had siblings that were younger he would be of great help.

"Hey Kev. I need your help with a project. I want to design a room for Jackson at my house and I need some help with what to get. And it's a surprise so I can't ask Kim." Kevin wasn't completely surprised but a little bit. He was unaware of what transpired last night so this seemed out of the blue but agreed none the less. "Yeah dawg meet you at Target. Noon work for you?" He offered hoping they could do it all today. "Sounds good. Might need paint too. And furniture but I can order that. I'm just excited to get started." They say goodbye and Adam goes to get ready.

Kim on the other hand walked into work beaming. Still smiling from last night. She was sure people would have questions from the photo she sent but wasn't really sure of who would interrogate her first. It shouldn't have been a big surprise that Lindsey was first and center with the questions. Bring a mom herself she knows the worries of your kids becoming attached to people who may not stay in their life forever. "Okay I want all the details and now!" Erin demanded before Kim could even remove her bag off her shoulder. "Fine but can we wait for everyone so I don't have to repeat it 5 times today?" Erin agreed but worked quick to find the rest of the team so she could get the details.

"Okay everyone here? Okay so the short version is Jackson wanted to know why he didn't have a dad. I explained that his was not a good person and to protect him from that man I made the man sign away his rights. He then asked if his dad had ever seen him. I said I was unaware if he had seen him in person but I never have him photos to look at. They he shyly asked if Adam could be his dad. I agreed that I was okay with it as long as Adam was which of course he jumped right in. Said he wanted nothing more. They even exchanged I loves you last night. It was beautiful to watch. A grown, strong man like Adam crying over a little boy who is now his son. Makes my heart melt." When Kim finished she noticed tears in most of their eyes. Not Rixton but he didn't know Jackson that well so that made sense.

The case today was quick the perp was sloppy. Leaving fingerprints and DNA behind. And he was in the system so they found him in no time at all. Kim called Adam as she was leaving to pick up Jackson from the sitter. He answered right away but sounded out of breath. "Hey darling! Was your day?" Smiling wide while talking to her. Proud the progress in the room so far. They had bought everything they needed. The furniture would be delivered tomorrow so today he focused on painting the room a lighter blue color and washing the sheets, towels and clothes he bought for Jackson. He also built the book shelves for the room.

"Hey baby! It was good. Easy case which doesn't happen often but I will take the win for today. You sound out of breathe you all right?" She was concerned. It was too close to game time to be working out but not stretch time yet and that never left him winded.

"Yeah I'm good Darling. Been working on cleaning the house today and getting the wash done. Before I leave for the game tonight. Will you be watching?" He was totally lying. He did clean and do the wash just not his wash. He really wanted to surprise them both.

"Ugh cleaning! I never have enough time for that. It always feels rushed but we manage. And of course we will be watching tonight. Just like every night. You know we still need to meet up with your dad for dinner. It's been weeks since he called, actually a month Sounds about right. We can't push it off forever you know." She knew she needed to push some or it would never happen. Her family doesn't live close by so it's a little harder to plan.

"I know. I promise I will set it up this week. I'm off Saturday how about dinner here and then you and Jackson can spend the night?" He knew his room would be done by then so it would be the perfect time.

"Sounds like a plan as long as nothing pops off. But it should be good. You cook and I will make dessert?" She offered. She wanted to do something to help out.

"Sounds like a good plan. Alright well I have to head to the ball park but I will call you later. Love you darling!"

"Love you too baby. Good luck tonight!" She was certain he didn't need it but it didn't hurt to say it.

It was finally Saturday and Kim was excited for a nice day off with Adam and Jackson. They decided to head the the zoo and to the park before heading to Adams house for dinner. The room was finished and Adam hoped they loved it. He put so much hard work into it. Jackson wiped out after the park so they went back to Adams for a nap and to start getting ready for dinner. Kim could tell something was up with Adam he was almost giddy as they got to the house. She liked it though. She loved that he was happy with them coming over. Once he pulled into the garage Kim asked what room she should put Jackson in.

"His room. Come on follow me." Like looked wide eyed at him but followed up the stairs with Jackson on her hip. He was half asleep so no way was he walking. She noticed it was at the opposite end of the hallway from Adams room but when he opened the door she gasped.

"OMG Adam! When did you do this? You didn't have to do all this!" Kim was so shocked! Now she knew why he was acting giddy on the way home. This! This was everything to her and he4 little boy. Who was looking around the room. She placed him on the floor so he could walk around.

"I know I didn't darling but he's my son now and I want him to have a room just for him here. So you guys can stay over and be comfortable. What do you think little man?" Adam was pretty proud of his handy work. It was of course baseball theme but Jackson seemed to love it. He touched everything in sight.

"I love it. Thank you daddy! It's all mine?" Still processing the room but Jackson continued to walk around and touch the toys and his new bed.

"Yup all yours bud. It even has a big boy bed for when your ready. Toys and books over here. And in the closet and dresser some extra clothes, pajamas and blankets for you. And the bathroom is right across the hall and has a step stool so you can reach the sink." Jackson jumped into Adams arms. So happy that his dad did all of this just for him.

"Why don't you take a nap while we go start dinner okay?" Kim knew he needed sleep before tonight so he wasn't cranky. But also knew he was super excited about the room.

"Okay mommy. Thanks again daddy! I love my room and you too!" They hugged again and then Adam put him in the bed and covered him with a blanket before kissing his forehead and whispering "I love you too. Always" then leaving.

They didn't make far out of the room before Kim was all over Adam. He threw her over his shoulder and to the bedroom they went. "Is this why his room is so far away?" She giggled. "Maybe. You can be loud!" He winked at her with a sly lopsided grin before kissing her. An hour later then needed a shower before they went downstairs to make dinner. They definitely needed to freshen up a bit so his dad wouldn't know how they spent nap time today.

It was 5pm Adam would be here any minute now and he's freaking out. He wants all to go smooth but he knows it probably won't. Hopefully he will behave in front of Jackson. He can't think about anymore as there is a knock at the door.

"Hey pops. Come on in." Adam greets him with a hug and shows him through. Adam can't remember the last time his dad was here.

"Adam my boy! So good to see you. Where's this girlfriend of yours?" Bob acting like his usually self. Crass and bold. Maybe uncomfortable but trying to hide it.

"She's upstairs getting Jackson ready for dinner. Just so you're aware Jackson calls me dad now. He asked if I could be his dad. We are all very excited about this and he has his own room here now." He states very matter of fact, no room for argument. He hears his dad gasp slightly. But he just hands Adam an envelope.

"What's this?" Adam asks opening the envelope. "You can't be serious! You did a background check on her? Why would you do that?" Adam is angry. Beyond angry about this but he sees Jackson running over arms out to be picked up.

"Oh goodie. What fun stuff did you find out? " Kim somewhat laughs over hearing that Bob did a background check on her. "Adam is there anything in there I haven't told you yet?" She's knows there isn't but she's proving a point.

"Nope Darling. Seems like I know everything here. Oh wait here's something" she looks confused what could it be "You have a degree in Business concentration in management? How did I not know that!" He laughs! It's nothing major probably nothing she even thought about it. Especially since it doesn't affect her career.

"Never crossed my mind since Im not using it. I got it in case I can't be a cop anymore. Seemed like a good back up plan. Anyway good evening Bob. It's good to see you again. This is our son Jackson. Jackson can you say hi?" Kim wants to move on in the conversation. She's annoyed but needs to move on.

Jackson wasn't normally shy but he could sense the tension in the air. "Hi".

"Hey Jackson I'm Adams dad. It's nice to meet you." Bob gave him a small fist bump.

"Dinner is ready. Let's eat and we can continue to talk. " Kim offers ready yo move on and eat. Jackson needed to stay on schedule and it was dinner time. They all sit down, Adam had gotten a booster seat for Jackson so he could also sit the table and it takes up less space. They settle in and pass food around. Small talk starts before a Bob starts in with the hard questions.

"So you work for Voight, Kim?" They both look at him wondering why he why choose to start with that. Or why that was necessary.

"Yes I do. He has been an such an amazing support in my life. He has taught me a lot about life and my career. He pushed me and made me a better cop. But also helped me with Jackson so I could become a detective. He's like a father figure to me and a grand father to my son. ". Kim speaks with such confidence it's pretty amazing. It makes Adam love her even more.

"You know he's a dirty cop right?" Bob continues. Like he's determined to ruin the night and her relationship with her boss.

"Maybe but that doesn't effect me. As long as I stay clean then it doesn't effect me. I don't know of anything illegal that he has done. But I do know all the times he has bailed people out. Pulled them off the street, put a roof over their heads, took them to rehab, gave them a family. He's far from perfect but no one is. Hell he knows you hate him yet he bailed you out. That says something about him. Don't you think?" Kim counters.

Bob literally can't find anything to say. So the small talk continued again. It seemed like dinner takes all night. In actuality it only lasted two hours. They couldn't wait for him to leave. It was bad. When he finally left they cleaned up the kitchen and then put Jackson to bed and they also went to bed. They needed to talk about tonight. He needed to apologize to her and make sure she knows his dads opinion does not count.

He comes out of the bathroom and sit down on the bed. "Kim we need to talk about tonight."

"No we don't Adam. Only our opinions count in this relationship. I don't care what he thinks about us or my job and my boss. I love you and our family. And that will never change. You and me are forever. I want it all with you. Let's makes an agreement right now. We keeps other people's opinions out of our relationship. Okay?"

"I love you so much. And it will never change. And I agree I don't care what he thinks. He's just bitter. I can't wait to see what our forever holds. " Adam holds her for a long time before she turned in his arms so she could kiss him. She needed him right now. And he needed her just as much.
