Kim couldn't wait to get home from work. After handing off the case it had been slow. Minus the ass reaming she got for her attitude towards Sergeant Williams. She texted Adam to say she was on her way so he started to cook dinner with Jackson's help. Jackson had been quiet since his nap but Adam figured he was tired or he would talk when he was ready to let them know what he was thinking. Dinner was almost done when Kim came through the door. Jackson ran into her arms wanting a big hug. She couldn't carry him because of her shoulder but hugs were a definite. "Hey buddy how was your day with daddy?" She asked noticing right away he was thinking about something. "It was so good. The zoo was so much fun. Can we get a dog mommy?" He asked right away. Kim wondered if that's what was really on his mind or something else. "I don't know baby we will have to talk to daddy about that. Dogs are a lot of work." Kim knew Adam probably wouldn't care but she still wanted to ask first. "Hey baby how was your dad?" She walked up to Adam kissing him before pulling away so he could answer. "Hm it was good. Little issue at the store we need to talk about. Roman was there and Approached Jackson. And apparently he also approached him on a walk today. He had a dog with him. Knew his name. I called Matt already and he gave me some advice about handling it. Spoke with security so they won't let him in. We need to talk to PD though about it." He knew she hated this. She wanted it to go away. But it's not. She just nodded and put her game face on for Jackson.

During dinner Jackson finally opened up about what's been bothering him. "Mommy what's a sperm donor?" Kim chocked on her food. Eyes wide as can be looking at him, shocked with the term he used. "Baby where did you hear that term?" Kim looked at him then at Adam who was trying not to look guilty. "Daddy said it when talking to the man at the store today. The man that I saw on my walk with Aunt Nadia today. He said he's my dad." Jackson spoke frankly but sheepishly since he was told his dad was not a nice person. "Oh honey. Firstly we shouldn't be using that phrase right Adam?! Secondly that man is your dad but remember he is not a good person and I don't want you talking to him okay. It's not safe." Kim knew Adam didn't always watch his mouth around Jackson and so far it hadn't been an issue. But no it was an issue. "But what does it mean? And why did he talk to me?" Jackson continued to push for information. "Okay So sperm is something that only boys have and it helps to make babies. So a sperm donor is someone who only donates his sperm and then does nothing else for the child they created. As for why he is trying to talk to you, I don't know. But I will find out. For now please just stay away from him. Can you do that?" It was as simple an answer as possible. No gory details just straight to the point. "I can do that. Thank you for protecting me." Jackson hugged his parents and then ran off to go play.

"Okay So now we are alone what happened?" Kim wanted all the details so she could get help from her team. She could address the word choices later. "I picked Jackson up from Nadia's he asked for a dog, said a man talked to him while they were walking he had a dog and knew his name. Then Nadia called him back over. We went to the zoo, then had lunch and then to the grocery store. While shopping I saw someone approaching Jackson so I stepped in front of him. Wanting to protect him from who ever it was. He claimed to be Jackson's father, hence me calling him sperm donor. Then told him to stay away from you and my son or I would get a restraining order. That's it. I called Matt he said to keep a record of every time Roman approaches us or Jackson to set up a case for stalking. He also recommended that we get PD involved with an official complaint. I knew I needed to talk to you about it but I knew you were busy and he's safe here." Adam explained.

"Here's what we are going to do. For one I have had a terrible day with work and now this. So I'm going to take a long shower, then call Platt and Voight to get the complaint started. Then call my lawyer to start the restraining order process since he has no rights to Jackson. Then we get Jackson to bed and then spend the rest of the night forgetting this terrible day till tomorrow when we can deal with it again. I have a lot of pent up emotion that I need to get out if your up for it." Kim know she needed a physical release already before finding out about Roman. That just made it all worse.

"Darling I'm up for anything but what happened at work that was so bad. I mean I know your cases are tough but did something else happen?" Adam pressed on needed to know exactly what was going on. The Roman thing wouldn't have stressed her out this bad and it didn't before.

"The crime scene wasn't that bad really. Robbery Homicide called us in since it was more than they could handle. It was dealer who was killed but they couldn't find his stash. But anyway Upton was there. Our team went in to look for more evidence, we split up and I was allowed in the house since it was cleared before. Anyway I was hearing noises and called for the team to help search for it. Turns out there was a basement that they never found. So I went out side with Lindsey and flipped out on Sergeant Wiiliams, yelling about not doing the job properly and how I had already been shot once since someone didn't clear a crime scene properly before. Halstead had to carry me away, he saw I was having panic attack. My PTSD was out of whack. It took several minutes for me to snap out of it, thanks to Jay. He knew the signs. By the end we ended up turning the case over to the DEA because we found coke, heroin, ecstasy and pot both dried and plants. We got back to the district only for me to get reamed out by the Commander for being disrespectful to a supervisor. And now this. I'm spinning I can feel it. I just need to not feel any of that for awhile." Kim explained and then broke down. Sobbing. It was all too much.

Adam got up from his seat and sat next to her pulling her into his lap. Just holding her until she stopped crying. Rubbing her back, up and down. Placing kisses on her head every so often. "It's all going to be okay. I promise you. We will get through this together. As a family of three. It's what we do. I love you Kim and I love Jackson as if he was my own. Why dont you go shower and I will call Platt and Voight. It's one less thing and since I was there it will be easier." He kept holding her till he felt her shake her head. He gave her one last kiss and sent her upstairs. Before she hit the stairs she turned "I love you too Adam and Thank you."

While Kim was in the shower Adam called Platt and Voight as promised. And then put Jackson to bed before joining her in the shower. She wasn't kidding when she said a long shower but he didn't care. He washed every inch of her body while spending extra time massaging her shoulders trying to relieve the stress. When the water ran cool they moved to the bedroom carrying out several rounds that left them both sated and thoroughly blissed out. Definitely the best way to forget about a terrible day.

The next morning Adam made Kim breakfast in bed. And then got Jackson ready for the day and brought him into the bedroom to hang out with Kim. "Mommy we never talked about getting a dog. So can we?" Jackson was back on the dog thing. This is not great. "Baby if we get a dog it's a lot of work. You would have to help out taking care of it and daddy would have to agree. But I would also want it trained to protect us so maybe a former military dog? Adam what do you think?" Kim knew it would be nice to have a dog when Adam travels and the extra protection would be nice but it's Adams house. Yeah they live there but he paid for it. She didn't want to just take over the house. "Actually I like the idea of a military dog. They are trained to protect and they are good emotional support. As long as it's good with kids I'm fine with it." Adam was liking this. He never had one as a kid so this was good for everyone. "Okay I will ask Halstead if he knows anyone who rescues former military dogs. I'm sure he knows a few people." Kim knew if it was time to get ready for work. They all had places to be today. It's game 3 of the World Series fir Adam, work for Kim and Jackson had time with Nadia.

By the time Kim got to work her mind was spinning again. She knew this was going to be a long day of questions that she didn't really want to answer. Platt was not at the front desk when she arrived which seemed strange to her. As she entered the bullpen she noticed Voight's door was closed and Platt was inside. "Jay we are looking into getting a dog for Jackson and we're thinking about a retired military dog. Do you know anyone who I could contact about that?" Kim asked wanting one thing to go well today. "Yeah I know a few people I can put you in contact with. It's a good thing you're doing. They come home and not all of the handlers can keep the dogs after they come home. They are also great at protecting people so they would keep you all safe. We have been thinking about it too. Hoping Voight will let us bring the dog to work with us to help on cases." Jay couldn't help but smile at the thought of helping a veteran dog. Most are so young still and they all need support and love. "Thanks Jay. The sooner the better. Roman made contact with Jackson and Adam happened to intercept the second interaction. I want him protected always." Kim sounded desperate but it was reality. "Okay I will reach out today. Should be quick too since they love to place they quickly before they get depressed from being bored after war." He was Sympathetic to her need for protection of her son. He would do the same for Grace and any other kids. They continued making small talk before the office opened. "Burgess office please". She cringed

"Yes boss, Sergeant ". She knew why she was there, still didn't make it any easier. "Kim relax. I know you think being called in here is a bad thing but it's not on you. We just want to talk about a Roman. We know you have a lot on your plate right now but we need to know what he wasn't and what he said." Voight knew if he said her first name it would calm her down some. "I wasn't there when it happened, you talked to Adam. We don't know what he wants. I think he has had a change of heart but it's too late you know. Stalking my son, trying to get him alone it scares me. I'm afraid he's going to kidnap Jackson. I just talked to Jay about getting a military dog to protect Jackson. We talked to the security in the neighborhood to make sure Roman can't get in, we talked to Nadia to let her know he's sniffing around. And we talked to both our lawyers to work on a restraining order but we need proof or information. We can't just get one over night. Can you guys talk to the Brass see if they can intervene?" Now Kim was desperate. Now she needed the most help possible.

"Kim we already did that before you came into the office. They are not interested in getting involved however the have assigned a mediator to try and work out this problem without having to get a restraining order. They understand you have documentation that shows he signed away his rights but he can try to fight it and you know that. Doesn't mean he would win but he could take you to court just to drain your finances. Maybe now that he met Adam he will back off." Platt took the lead on talking to the Brass since she was in better standings with them. She also knew Roman so her getting involved was not the best idea. "We will protect you all Kim. You are family and this is what we do. Roman will not get his hands on Jackson. We won't allow it." Voight tried to reassure her but he knew it wouldn't work. Not till a Roman was gone for good.

"Thank you. But I also thank god that Adam is the son of a cop because he knew something was up before it happened. He felt it was off and stepped in to block him. And thank god for security because they beefed up security around the house. I just want things the way they were before you know? When we were all happy and stress free. Just enjoying our new little family. Even with all the family drama we were still happy and carefree. Now I'm spinning. I can't think straight. I need Roman to go away back from where he came. He didn't care before so just go back to that." Kim rested her head in her hands. Crying quietly. She felt Platt and Voight come up to her and put a hand on her shoulders. They gave her some time to pull herself together before joining the team on the current case which was being debriefed to the team now.

When Kim returned to the bullpen Erin was quick to get up and hug her. She knew how it felt to be a mother and wanting to protect your child from danger. They were all given assignments for the day and everyone got to work. Kim was working at her desk only today since her head wasn't in the game today.

Adam on the other side of town decided that before heading to work he was going to beef up the number of cameras around the property. He also talked to a security company about hiring body guards for Jackson. At least till this whole mess with Roman was over. No amount of money was too much to protect his son. Especially when the motives of the so called father are unknown. He also called Kevin "Hey dawg! What's going on? Wasn't thinking I would hear from you till tonight." Kevin was questions why his client would call today. They had nothing set up for today. Just the game and nothing on the books for a couple weeks once the season ends to recoup from the season. "Hey I need some help. Jackson's dad has popped back up approaching him when he seems alone. I'm thinking about moving into not only a gated community but a house with the whole yard is gated and fenced. Can you look into that for me? See if that even exists in Chicago? I want to protect them from what ever this fool wants." Adam knew he was jumping the gun here but he wanted to know what options were out there for them. "Yeah man I can look into that but it's going to be expensive man. But I will look and let you know later tonight." Kevin was shocked but not surprised Adam was jumping head first into fixing this. "Thanks man. I appreciate it. See you tonight man".

About an hour later Adam arrived at the district for the planned mediation between Kim and Roman. It was recommended he not come but it wanted to hear if first hand what he wants with his son. He would pay Roman to leave them alone if he thought it would work. The mediation was done in an interrogation room since the had video cameras. It was more evidence in their case against him. Adam would be on the other side watching. "Are you ready for this? It was super quick pulling this together. I'm sure no one wants this blowing up. I will need to leave at some point but I will let you know before I leave. I can't miss warm ups tonight if I plan on playing." Adam was holding her while talking. He could feel her shaking. "I'm not great but I want this over. And I understand that you have work. I'm so proud of you and everything you have accomplished. They didn't really want you here anyway. Afraid you might hit him. Break his face." Kim laughed at the last part. "Kim he's here. Right this way Okay? It will be okay. We got you." Voight led her to the room and Adam to observation.

"Burgess, Roman I'm here to make some peace agreement between you too before we have to take this to court. We don't want this to go to court. We don't need this kind of case being part of the public. I am aware that Kim you have documentation signed by Sean that says he no longer has rights to your son. And I understand that you Sean have been attempting to see Kim's son. Sean can you tell me why you are now trying to communicate with Kim's son." The mediator Dean said. "Jackson my sons name is Jackson. It's not just Kim's, he's mine too. She needs to acknowledge that. And not let some loser play daddy to my son." Sean spewed with anger at Kim. "First off my son, who you wanted aborted, who you never asked about after that day till recently has a wonderful life. And he doesn't have some loser playing daddy. His father is Adam Ruzek. He had a solid job, owns his own home. Treats Jackson like his own son. Omg I'm an idiot. This has nothing to do with Jackson. This has everything to do with Adam. You want a payout don't you? Is that what this is about? That extortion it's a felony. You should know that! I can't believe you. You aren't denying it. So it's true?" Kim ranted, screamed at him. She should have known.

At that exact moment Adam barged into the room. He was pissed! Stalking a child for money? Who does that? Apparently this guy. "You want money? How much? I will have my lawyer here in 30 minutes with papers to resign away your rights for good and a permanent restraining order. I will pay you to leave him alone. You ever go near my son again and you will be in jail! You hear me?" It was explosive in the room and the team was in there keeping Adam from punching Roman in the face. "Look you want to play daddy to my kid fine but it will cost you. I planned this all out from the moment I found out about you two. I want a million and he's yours. Otherwise we are going to court." Roman was smug and had figuratively just hung himself. "Officer Sean Roman you are under arrest for extortion and stalking a minor. Follow me and I will read you your rights." Dawson led him out in cuffs. It was all on video. He did it for money. What a piece of garbage. His career was over, he was going to jail for at least 10 years. And Kim could finally relax some.

After Roman was led away the team filtered out of the room to leave Adam and Kim to have a few moments of privacy before heading back to work and Adam leaving for the ballpark. Neither said a word just held each other tight. Knowing nothing they said would matter in this moment. It was all over. They could move on. Their little family was whole again, safe again. Now they could focus on the future without looking over their shoulders. A weight had been lifted they didn't realize they were carrying. Life was good again.

The team finished out the day with paperwork. Everyone reeling from what happened with Roman. Kim made a decision that would be good for all. "Guys come over tonight. We can order take out and watch game 3. It will be great to wind down after today. Everyone in?" It was unanimous yes from the whole team. At home the team was settling in when Mouse approached Kim "Kim Hey I wanted to talk to you about your apartment. I know it's for sale but I wondered if you would be interested in renting it me until I can get a down payment together. I know it's not normal but I just need some time to get things together." Mouse just needed a few months to get things together and couldn't take sleeping on a couch much longer. "Um yeah let me get a hold of my agent and we can get a contract together so it's on the books but I'm good with that. It's a great place for you to start reliving your life again." Kim was understanding and liked to help people but wasn't willing to be completely vulnerable by not having a contract. "Thanks Kim I really appreciate it."

Jay approached next kind of excited to let her know he got in contact with a person who handles veteran dogs. "Kim I talked to my contact who works with adopting out the veteran dogs and she has several right now that need good homes. She has time tomorrow if you want to go with us to see them? Erin's on board finally so I'm excited to get one." Kim's laughing at how child like Jay is behaving. "Sounds great just let me know what time since we are off the next two days." She padded his shoulder and walked back to watch the game.
