The day of their trip had arrived. They had packed up and got in the car headed to the airport. It was Jackson's first time flying so he was excited and also scared all at the same time. Kim was excited to show Adam where she's from. She had never taken anyone there before. Adam was just happy to get away from Chicago a bit with the family, Champ was staying with the Halstead's since the dogs were from the same rescue and got along very well. They got to O'hare around 9am for there 10:30 flight. It was a short flight luckily. They got through TSA quickly since they had pre check so the line moved much more quickly. Once they got into the airport they headed towards the restaurants to get some breakfast. After eating they headed to the gate just in time for boarding the plane. Since they had a small child they were able to board the plane early. Jackson did well on the flight, he was able to watch cartoons the whole flight which was helpful. They landed and made their out of the airport. It was a small airport but they did have to wait at baggage claim since they had to check Jackson's car seat.

Adam was surprised when they didn't head to the rental car area but assumed she had an Uber waiting. "Darling what kind of car we looking for?" Adam asked confused since she hadn't used her phone at all since they landed. "A silver Jeep Patriot. It's in the short term parking lot. Come on, hurry up." Kim laughed at Adams confused face. "Baby it's my car. I had a friend bring it down here so we didn't have to rent one. Let's get going." They got into the car and secured the car seat before driving off. It took about 45 minutes to reach their home base for the next few days. "This is it? This place is huge! I can't believe you own part of this place." Adam was shocked by the house in front of him. "Well we bought it before the market started to rebound. So it was a good deal. It's also perfect for family parties and get together with our extended friend group." Kim explained while helping Jackson out of his car seat and into the house. Kim proceeded to show them around the home and allowed them to unpack and settle in. About an hour later Jackson was hungry again so they headed out for lunch. While driving Kim pointed out some of her favorite places and fun facts about the area.

They decided while on the drive that snow tubing would be planned for the next day. Kim didn't feel comfortable tubing while being pregnant but agreed to watch the boys having fun in the snow. Lunch ended and they decided to head to the grocery store to get some food for next few days before heading back home. The spent the rest of the afternoon sledding and playing in the snow before heading inside to start a fire and make dinner. It was relaxing and fun filled first day. The next day they started by going to Kim's favorite breakfast restaurant when to Adams surprise the owner and cook both ran out to hug Kim and several diners said hello and called her by her first name. She was well known here. "I take it you come here often?" Adam mused. "Yeah when I lived here I came every Saturday with the girls. The boys golf and the girls have breakfast. It's a good time and the food is amazing. All home made, all fresh. It's great, you will love it." Kim was excited to share this place with Adam and Jackson.

The food arrive shortly after ordering and it was delicious. Kim had been right with how great this place was. Adam noticed people staring at them but he didn't know if it was because of him or her. She seemed to be somewhat of a local celebrity. They made small talk throughout breakfast before heading back home to get ready for snow tubing. Jackson couldn't wait to hit the slopes. The slopes they had decided on was about 5 minutes from the house so it would a quick ride over. While snow was common in Chicago all the snow covered woods, slopes and mountain ranges were not so the drive while short was still a beautiful sight to see. The boys spent two hours tubing before finally coming into the chalet for hot cocoa and to sit by the fireplace. Kim was already sitting by the fire enjoying the warmth. "Momma it was so much fun! I loved it so much! I can't wait to go again." Jackson came running once he saw her. He was giddy and so full of excitement. Jumping up and down. This is exactly what she wanted for them when she planned this trip. Adam looked cold but the smile on his face said it all. He was thrilled to be here with his son making memories. Memories he never had with his dad. This was exactly the type of dad he wanted to be.

After lunch they headed back home to shower and change outfits. While it was freezing outside the extra layers of clothing made for extra sweatiness. Once they finished showering and getting cleaned up they headed back out to head to the Crayola Factory. It was a great place for Jackson to play and run around with other kids. And it was educational but no one was telling Jackson that. That would ruin the fun for him. They headed to a local ice cream place after before heading home for dinner. While Kim cooked the boys played air hockey in the basement. They stayed busy all the time which was great because Jackson was worn out by the time bedtime came around.

The following day they headed out early. Kim wanted to show Adam where she was born and the first home they lived in. It was about a hour and a half away. After driving past her old home and old school they went to the local park where they went sledding. Adam and Kim took turns with Jackson on the sled and took turns taking photos. More memories for the future. Jackson eventually got cold and wanted to head back to the car. He was also hungry and tired. So they headed to a local lunch spot before starting the journey towards home. They did make a detour to show Adam where her parents lived and the high school she went to. He was surprised they didn't stop to see her folks. Just a drive by. That night for dinner they headed to a local place where some of Kim's friends would be that also had local music. Again to Adams surprise so many people knew her name including the band. It was insane how popular she was here. Hugs flowed and the chatter didn't stop. He was starting to understand why she said this was a whole different world out here.

Sure people knew his fiancé in Chicago but that was all first responders. Out here it was doctors, HR managers, bar tenders, business owners, people of all different ages, demographics. It really was a different life. She sat at the bar and within a minute her favorite non alcoholic drink was in front of her but only after the bar tender ran around from the back to hug her. It was insane. But Adam loved seeing her shine, in her element. Surrounded by people who seemed to genuinely care about her and what she was doing with her life. It was refreshing. No long ugly days, no horror stories. Just fun. This would have to be a place they go more often.

They had gotten home later than they wanted after turning down an invitation to go back to a friends house for 'one and done'. Kim said it was never one and it was almost always 1am before anyone left. Not happening with a four year old in tow. Kim could feel Adam staring at her. "What's on your mind babe?" Kim asked half asleep. It had been a long day. "Just realizing what you meant by a different life out here. And I knew you were an amazing person but seeing all these people running to see you when you walked in is a whole new level you know. I'm in awe of it. We will be coming here more often that's for sure. This has been such a great trip so far. I love it here." Adam gushed about Kim and this place. It was magical to him. He didn't want it to be over. Luckily they had another day and a half before heading home.

The spent the last full day going to a local chocolate shop, it was one of Kim's favorite places. She loved looking at all the antique chocolate molds and machines. It was stepping back in time. They also headed to a local winery to listen to a friend sing. Again Adam noticed how everyone knew Kim, he loved watching her shine around the people she knew. Then dinner with friends at one of the friends house. They just had pizza and watched a game but it was fun. Adam heard lots of amusing Kim stories and even stories about her friends that had him rolling in laughter. It was a fun and relaxing day.

The last half day was busy packing and cleaning up before heading to the airport. Kim had noticed that Adam kept declining calls on his phone but didn't know who it was. She trusted him so it didn't matter at the moment. The ride back to the airport was quiet. No one wanted the trip to be over but reality was calling. They had a doctors appointment the next day and an announcement to make. They couldn't wait to clue their friends in on their little bundle of joy.

Back at the district Bob Ruzek had made his way into see Kim. Adam hadn't been returning his calls so he figured Kim would know something. "Bob What are you doing here?" Platt asked surprised to see him. He never came to the 21st. "Looking for Kim Burgess. My sons not answering my calls so I figured I would stop by to figure out what's going on." He replied. "Well you should have called. Kim's on vacation on the East Coast. Probably why Adam hasn't responded. They wanted time as a family before the season starts again." Platt knew Adam and Bob had issues but wasn't playing into it. "Look can yo7 tell me when they get back?" Bob felt like he had the right to know. "I don't know. You need to talk to Voight if you want that answer. Want me to call him down for you?" Platt also knew Bob hated Voight. If nothing else it would be fun to watch them spar. "Sure. Thanks" Bob waited on the bench by the commanders office. "Voight Bob Ruzek is here, wants to talk." Platt called upstairs.

"Going downstairs guys apparently Bob Ruzek is here. Should be fun." Voight mentioned as he walked down the stairs. They all looked at each other and than at him knowing this wasn't going to go well. "What's going on Bob?" Voight asked not really sure why he was there. "Looking for Kim Burgess. Adam isn't answering my calls so I'm here to talk to her." Bob offered. "Well like I'm sure Platt told you she's not here. She's on vacation. Enjoying some down time before Adam hits the road again. I'm sure it's nothing personal." Voight knew they had made up to some extent but also knew that Kim and Adam were still guarded when it came to their family. No one could blame them for that. Hell he knew they weren't going to see her family and they would be close enough while on vacation. "Well it feels that way. I know we patched things up but it's been a month and still no calls back. What more do they want?" Bob mused aloud. "They need to time to trust again. They can forgive but forgetting not so much. I'm sure they are protecting themselves and their son. Just give them some time. It's been busy for them lately. I'm sure the few days away will help them relax some." Hank just wanted to get him to understand but knew he probably wouldn't get it. "Just tell her to call me." Bob left after that. Not wanting to hear anything other than what he wanted to hear.

It was around 4 when the family of three got home. Kim had received a text from Voight letting her know that Bob had been at the district which she had let Adam know about. He didn't seem phased. "Now that we are home we should probably start looking into Pre K for Jackson. He starts in the fall. And with this one on the way and planning a wedding. I want to get a head start on that." Kim mentioned knowing it was only a few short months away. "I completely agree. That is the most important thing. But I do want to plan the wedding soon. And I do know I have some school to finish up with before the season starts in two weeks." Adam was excited for this year. Tons of great things going on this year but it was stressful with all the planning. "Couldn't agree more. I have some ideas for the wedding. First I want something small, private. No public announcement, no paps. Just are closest friends and family. Secondly I want it in North Carolina. I know the perfect place that would allow us to have the reception over looking the ocean. Thirdly I was think later in October, after the season is over but not Halloween. I don't want that type of theme. How does that sound?" Kim rambled on about her thoughts but was excited to see what he thought. "Well it sounds good but I would like to see the place first before I completely agree. But I'm with you on the rest of it. Maybe a larger reception when we get back with the extended friends and family?" Adam offered. "I like that idea. And of course I want you to see the place before I book it. I wouldn't do that to you. I also don't think we need to register for gifts, maybe ask people to donate to charity. We are fortunate enough to not need anything. Jackson be the ring bearer. And maybe only one person each for the bridal party?" Adam listened intently as Kim spoke of her ideas for the wedding. "Darling I agree. We don't need anything. And even if we do we can just buy it. Charity is the right way to go. Small bridal party is good and I love the idea of Jackson being included." They spent more time looking at locations before ordering some dinner before relaxing the rest of the night.

The next morning they entered the doctors office nervous but excited to see their baby again. They wondered how big it had gotten. Would they be able to see the fingers and toes. Would it look like a baby and not just some cloud looking blob. Lots of excitement but the nerves of whether or not something might be wrong with the baby. You always worry about that. It doesn't go away just lessens as you further progress. Adam squeezed Kim's hand as they waited in the examination room. It seemed like time stood still as the waited. It probably was not a long wait at all but it always felt that way. The doctor walked in and they both got super excited to see their baby again. The nerves washed away. "Good morning. Kim how are you feeling?" Doctor Eli asked. "I'm good. Tired a bit, a little cranky and some sickness now and then but overall good." Kim was honest with him. She really had been okay this pregnancy which was a pleasant surprise. "That's great. Your weight gain is in the proper range so that's good and all your vitals look good as well so it seems you are taking care of yourself well." Eli explained. "Well it helps that Adam here is becoming a nutritional counselor so he has been making sure I eat right and stay healthy. And I have been able to keep up with exercising this time which I think helps as well. I'm not going as hard as I normally would but still working out and running." Kim knew things would be different if Adam wasn't around. She would eat tons of junk food not just little bits. "Well that's great to hear. Let's have a look at the little one. You know the drill. Lay back and pull your shirt up. The gel is going to be cold." Eli mentioned the coldness right as Kim flinched from the cold.

They waited watching the screen waiting to see the sign of life when suddenly the sound of the babies heart beat filled the room and the image became clear. There it was, their baby. Kim looked up at Adam who was crying ugly tears at the sight but she couldn't make fun because she was too. It's was unimaginable the love you can have for a child that's not even here yet. "So the heartbeat is strong as you can hear. Everything looks good from what I can see. It looks like you are measuring at 13 weeks. I will give you some time while I print out the ultrasound photos for you." Eli handed Kim some tissues to clean up and left the room. Adam hugged Kim while pulling himself together. He couldn't have been happier this was everything to him and more. He was finally getting the life he always dreamed of.

When Eli returned he handed them each a photo before continuing. "So I would like to see you again in 4 weeks. And you should really start considering desk duty. I know your job is dangerous so please consider it sooner than later to be safe. If you have any questions let me know." He shook their hands and left. Desk duty was not something Kim wanted to entertain just yet. She wanted a few more weeks but knew he was right. It was going to suck that's for sure. "Should we tell my team together?" Kim asked as they left. "Well they pretty much know already so why not. Although I'm not sure we need to say anything. Me walking in with you will give it away don't you think?" Adam laughed at the last part. They are cops for a reason. "Well let's go then." Kim replied as they got into the car to head to the district.

Arriving at the district felt different maybe because Adam was with her but it felt strange. A good strange but strange none the less. The made it into the main area and all eyes were on them, more Adam than Kim but still it was unnerving. "Boy wonder what brings you here with Skinny Britches?" Platt asked while Kim and Adam laughed. "Heading up to make an announcement you want to join?" Adam offered knowing she was always up for gossip. "Garcia cover the desk." Platt followed closely curious to know what's up. "Good morning everyone!" Kim announced at the top of the stairs. A round of Good mornings came out before Voight noticed. "Kim why are Adam and Platt here?" That got everyone's attention. "Well we have an announcement to make. I know most of you already know because Dawson called me out about it two weeks ago but officially we are pregnant! Baby Ruzek will make an appearance the beginning of July." Kim spoke as she was met with stares and hugs and lots of congratulations. Platt was shocked, she wasn't around them as much so it had surprised her but she was still happy for everyone.

Voight ushers them into the office after the congrats wound down. "Okay so first I am very happy for you both. This is very exciting. Secondly I assume you are now 12 weeks since you made your announcement?" He paused waiting for confirmation. "Actually 13 weeks sir." Adam spoke up first. "Okay well that means desk duty you know that right? I know you hate it but your on a desk. You can stay up here or we can move you temporarily to somewhere you could stay more busy. It's up to up you." Voight knew she would hate it but it's what is safest. "I would like to stay here as long as I can. Once I'm bigger then maybe something with less stairs. You know my ankles and feet swelled last time and it has hard to walk up the stairs when you can't see them. But I also want just one more week in the field. No busts, just crime scenes. Please?" Kim begged as the boys laughed. "Okay but only till the end of the week. No busts, no chases, processing scenes and witness statements. Interviews. That's it okay?" Voight smiled as she nodded. It was a compromise for both but they were both happy. They talk a little longer before exiting the office.

Halstead was talking about the latest victim and what had been found in her room. Apparently she was only 14. "Can you believe this stuff was in her room? Like how do they even know what it is? How do they buy this stuff?" He complained, lamented. Kim laughed as she entered the room. "Jay you do realize it's not illegal for a 14 year old to have that. They can order it online or hell that one in your hand can be purchased at Rite Aid. It's not that hard. Spencer's sells them in the mall. Kids can buy penis shaped lollipops at Spencer's so we can't be surprised that they know or own a vibrator. Erin I'm sorry for you right now." The girls laughed hard at Jay while the guys stood shocked by Kim's knowledge on the subject. "What? Why are you staring at me?" Kim was still laughing at them this time. "Um it's just I don't anyone thought you would know this much about the topic that's all." Rixton spoke. Maybe the most surprised of them all. "Really? I was a single mom for three years! And there is nothing wrong with it. Don't be a prude. Up tight people like you is why it's taboo. You should try it Kenny. If you want an education let me know." Kim shocked them all that time. Even Adam was surprised. Sure he got them toys for Christmas but he didn't realize she already had some.

"Alright well you guys work some strange cases but I have to go. I have to finish my exams before you get home from work. Love you Darling. Be safe." Adam starts as he hugs Kim and kisses her lips before heading towards the stairs. "Love you to baby. Kick ass on those exams." Kim kissed him back and he was down the stairs. She turned around to see everyone looking at her confused. "What this time?" Kim was now confused. "Exams?" Dawson asked. "Yeah he is taking college courses to be a certified personal trainer and a nutritional counselor. He has maybe 10 years left before retirement and then what? Full time house dad? We both doubt that would be enough for him. But this he can use now and later after he retires." Kim explained. They all seemed to understand. "That's great Kim. Proud of you both for thinking that far ahead. Let's get back to the case." Voight wanted to get back to work now. He was over talking.

"So our victims cell phone is pinging at this address. Dawson you and Burgess go find it. Everyone else street cams around the area where she lived and was found. Find me something. Also look into her social media history, maybe we can get a lead from that." Voight wanted this solved quickly. It wasn't random they knew that but who would do this. She's only 14. In the car the partners talked about random stuff on the way to the sight. It turned out to be trash cans and dumpsters. "Let's call the phone first. That way we know better where to look." Kim suggested before Dawson called the number. They were not lucky it was in a dumpster. "After you." Dawson Saadi as he helped Kim into the dumpster. "This is gross! I'm going to need a shower after this. Thank god it's cold out. Could imagine how bad it would smell if it were summer?" Kim hated this but she wanted to be in the field still so this is what she got. After close to an hour they found the phone and had clean up the mess. They wouldn't leave the trash on the ground. That wasn't right. Once back at the district they handed the phone over to Mouse. "You guys smell amazing. Hope you enjoyed your dumpster dive." He joked with them. They were not amused. And left.

"I'm hitting the showers. I can't take it any longer." Kim spoke up as she entered the locker room. "Yeah me too. I will use the one in the other locker room so you have privacy okay?" Dawson needed a shower too but didn't want to make Kim uncomfortable by showering in the same room. "Thanks I appreciate it. See you soon." Kim replied. Grabbing what she needed and headed for the showers not before sending Voight a message letting him know. He was very appreciative of not having to smell them after an hour with trash so it was fine. While in the shower the team continued to work. Mouse finished with the phone and brought the call logs and texts up to the bull pen. Kim stepped out of the shower to grab her towel when she noticed someone she had never seen before walking towards her. She covered herself and screamed as loud as she could. The team went running towards the locker room. "Kim! Kim are you okay?" Jay yelled as he ran in. "Who the hell are you?" Erin asked. Kim hiding in the shower shaking. "What's the problem? I was just watching her shower. No harm done." The stranger replied. "That's where you are wrong. This is a locked unit. You are not authorized to be here. And you were peeping on a detective. Now who the hell are you?" Voight got in the guys face. "I'm Officer Stevens. I'm New I didn't know this was a locked unit." He lied, he knew. He snuck in when Dawson was leaving. "My office now. Erin take care of Kim make sure she's okay." Voight said as he left with Jay, Mouse, Kenny and this officer.

"Kim are you okay? They are gone. Here's your towel." Erin spoke softly. Not wanting to scare her anymore. "I was unarmed. Naked. I have been less scared with a gun in my face. I didn't know what he was going to do or how I would defend myself." Kim shook trying to dry off some so she could get dressed again. If it had been someone in the unit or an accident that would be one thing but this was not either of those things. Kim continued to dry off and get dressed and did her hair while Voight took care of the Officer. "Halstead I want you to call Platt and Crowley and get them up here now. Then everyone go back to working this case. We will deal with him." Voights tone was short and harsh but he didn't care. He didn't speak another word till Platt and Crowley arrived. The silence was killing the officer but Voight didn't care.

"What did you need Hank?" Crowley asked with Platt in tow. "This Officer was found peeping on one of my detectives while she was in the shower. She screamed bloody murder when she saw him walking towards her. He doesn't think it's an issue. You guys deal with him or I will and you won't like how I handle it." He explained as they looked on in horror. "First who was the detective in question? And which locker room was she in?" Platt asked, easier to use names. "It was Kim and she was using our private locker room. Where she is safe. Dawson even left to use the other locker room to give her more privacy. That's how it works here. And even if we need to go in there we announce ourselves. We don't stare and make a move on an unexpected victim." Voight was worked up over this. Didn't matter who it was, it was wrong.

Kim came out of the locker room ready to get on with the day. She didn't want to let this ruin her good mood. To dampen her excitement about her growing child. As she walked back into the bullpen she heard her name being called and being motioned into the office. "Sir, Commander, Sergeant? What can I do for you?" She asked nervously. Anytime your called into the offices it's always nerve racking. "We just wanted to let you know that we are taking this very seriously and will making an example out of this officer. This is unacceptable and we are truly sorry that it happened to you. We would also like to offer you the rest of the day off." Crowley offered and explained. "Thank you Commander. I appreciate your offer but I'm okay working today. I will be taking enough time off later in the year for maternity leave so I would rather work while I can. Also I appreciate you taking this seriously. This should never have happened to me or anyone else. So making this been a known issue to prevent it from happening again is fine with me." Kim was grateful that it was taken serious and it would now protect others in uniform. That's all she wanted. "Well Kim you can head back to work now. Thank you." Voight knew she had work to do so this was necessary to close the case.

Several hours later they had closed the case. It was ugly and twisted but they solved it. They caught the suspect and he confessed to the girls murder. Turns out it was the start of a bigger case with an under ground kiddie porn ring so it was handed over to the feds. Normally that would never happen but this was definitely out of the comfort zone for Intelligence. Sure they dealt with the dark web before and sex offenders but this was way worse than anything they had ever dealt with. It was better this way. The team went to Molly's after shift but Kim decided to head home. Adam was where she wanted to be.
