"Hey baby. I'm home." Kim announced as she entered the house. She was exhausted from the day and knew Adam would not be happy with the turn of events at work after he left. "Hey Darling! How was your day? You look exhausted and not in the same clothes." Adam moved to where Kim was standing. He held her at arms length so he look into her eyes. "Darling what happened today?" He was so concerned. "The case was not great but that wasn't the worst. I don't even know how to tell you what happened." Kim shuddered thinking about it. "This sounds really bad. Let's head over to the couch and you can tell me what's going on. I'm really worried and scared right now." Adam moved her over to the couch. Truly scared for what was to come. "Okay so it's a long story but after you left Antonio and I were sent to find the victims cell phone, it was in a dumpster. It was nasty to say the least. We were playing trash for an hour. Anyway we find it, make it back to the district, give the phone to ?Mouse and then head for the showers. Me in the private locker room for Intelligence only and Antonio went to the one use by the rest. He went so I would have privacy. Anyway I'm showering getting the smell off and when I was done I walk out naked to find some stranger in the locker room moving towards me. I screamed as loud as I could and the team came running. They took him away and Erin took care of me. He was an officer from patrol, new a rookie, who didn't see an issue with it at all. Thankfully he was fired but I never been more scared. I had no weapon, I was naked. I have had gun in my face and I was less scared." Kim finished her story she was shaking. Adam hadn't said anything, just held Kim while kissing her head lovingly.
"Darling I'm so sorry that happened today. This was supposed to be a wonderful day. And this jack ass ruined it. I'm thankful that he wasn't able to touch you and thankful he was fired. You are safe now. He can't hurt you anymore. No one will hurt you like that again. I'm right here just let it out." He just kept holding her. He couldn't imagine what that must have felt like. Being defenseless while vulnerable. He hated this guy so much but thrilled he was fired for it. Shows that they actually care about protecting their cops. "Let's get you into bed okay. We can cuddle up in bed and talk or not but at least you can be really comfortable." Adam took her hand and led her upstairs. He had no intention of being romantically involved tonight. He just wanted her to feel safe, protected and loved.
He helped her change into her pajamas knowing that she would probably be self conscious tonight. Normally they didn't sleep in much clothing but tonight he figured it was best. She didn't complain or really say anything. Once she was comfortable he made his way downstairs to grab some water for later. He liked to have some upstairs just in case he got thirsty he wasn't trying to go down the stairs half asleep. When he returned she looked more at peace, more grounded. "Can I ask a question?" Adam asked almost afraid to ask his question but he wanted to know. Kim nodded her head. "Did your whole team see you naked too?" Adam asked her. He wondered if that maybe that was part of the issue. "Maybe I don't know but it wouldn't exactly be the first time. We change in front of each other all the time. The difference is is that we are family and would never break that line, this person broke into a locked unit to watch someone in a shower. Completely different. Also we always announce when we enter the locker room in case someone is naked and want time to cover up. Just how we work." Kim explained not really sure if that makes him feel better or not. Adam just nodded and pulled her into his arms. He trusted her and her team. That wasn't the issue for him, he wanted to make sure it wasn't an issue for her. Nothing was said for awhile after that. They just held onto each other like their lives depended on it. And maybe it did. Eventually they fell asleep Kim before Adam still in their embrace.
The next morning Adam made Kim and Jackson breakfast in bed. He knew that cuddle time always helped and food always helped so breakfast in bed it was. Kim loved it. She was smiling bright this morning. So much better than the tortured look from last night. He knew she was going to be okay. "Darling how would you feel about telling Jackson the news?" Adam wanted to share their big news with him. "Um sure I hadn't thought about it but I guess we should. What do you think he will say?" Kim was worried he might not be okay with it. "I think he will be excited. He knows we love him and that won't change. I think it's good." Adam was not curious himself how he would react. He hadn't really thought about it. "Maybe tonight after work?" Kim asked. She wanted to do it in a fun way for him. "Let's come up with a fun way to tell him. Create some excitement before we tell him just in case." Adam decided since they were a little nervous about telling him. "Sounds good. Thanks for breakfast but I have to get ready for work. I would rather stay here but I need to work now so I have time later with this little one." Kim begrudgingly got up and headed for the shower.
After her shower Kim got dressed and headed towards the kitchen where Adam was cleaning up from breakfast. Adam made her a cup of coffee to go since she had a serious addiction to coffee and they never knew when it would be a long day or not. Jackson was dressed and ready for Nadia's so Kim loaded him into the car while Adam brought out her go bag. "Thanks for the coffee baby. Have a great day. I love you!" Kim kissed him as she was getting in the car. "Love you too Darling! Be safe today. Call me later." Adam kissed her back before she left for the day. It was a quick ride to the district after dropping Jackson off for the day. Once she arrived she had a slightly sick feeling walking in the building. Everyone was staring at her it was frustrating she hadn't done anything wrong but the stares continued till she made her way upstairs.
"Morning everyone!" She called out as she made her way to her desk to drop off her coffee before heading to the locker room to drop her bag. "Morning Burgess. How are you doing today?" Jay called out when he saw her. "I'm okay. Little nauseous when I walked in and then everyone was staring at me downstairs so that was fun. But overall I'm good. Thanks for asking." Kim was happy he asked, they were close because if Erin but it was nice to know he cared. "Yeah word spread that someone was fired yesterday because of a peeping incident up here. You how gossip works around here. Tomorrow will be better." Jay responded. "Let's hope so." Kim chuckled as she moved closer to the locker room. When she came out she saw the team in the office with Voight who motioned for her to join.
"Did we get a case?" Kim asked as she walked in the room. "No we were discussing the gossip from downstairs. We are going to stop it before it gets anymore out of hand. But I also wanted everyone to know that with Kim not going into the field as of next week I decided to bring in her temporary replacement early so we can test them to find the right fit. So starting today we will have Nick Jones from Gangs. We also have two others who are available if he doesn't work out. I know we are all concerned after the whole Upton issue but we are going to need back ups that we trust. I also know we like Rojas but I don't think she ready to be up here full time yet. So let's try this out okay?" Voight informed the team as they split up and headed towards their desks.
The new guy shows up around 9 which apparently was the correct time since Voight wanted to talk to us first. "Okay so this is Nick Jones from gangs. He will be with us while Kim is on desk duty and Maternity leave. Hopefully this will be a good fit for everyone. You will be partnered up with Antonio Dawson. And take any available desk. Dawson introduce him and show him around. Alright paperwork till we catch a case." He exits the room as everyone gets up to introduce themselves to Nick. "So how long has everyone worked here?" He asked trying to find some common ground. "I'm the newest at under a year." Kenny spoke up. "Then Kim, Jay, Erin and then myself" Dawson replies. "I came on right as the unit was formed. It's a great place to work but it's hard work and it's ugly most days." Dawson continued as he showed Nick around.
Meanwhile Adam was out shopping for the up coming season. He needed a few new bats, batting gloves and a few other basics. He loved this time of year. The season not starting yet but all the fine tuning and hard work to get ready for the season was fun for him. Gave him a chance to try to improve his swing and perfect his stance. This was when all the training in the off season showed off. Thought out this past off season he had added a few pounds of muscle mass which should give him more power in his swing. And hopefully speed in his throws. After shopping he needed to start packing for spring training. He hated being away from Kim and Jackson but this was the job and they all knew it going into it. He had just about two weeks to get everything in order before he left.
Adam made it back home just in time for Kevin to arrive. They had a meeting planned for today to go over all the information for the upcoming season. Including the practice schedule for spring training. Adam was more concerned about that since it was how the season started. Adam has just finished bringing in his bags from the car when he heard the knock on the door. Like always he checked the peep hole, being a cops son you learn some habits. When he saw Kevin he opened the door. "Hey man! How are you? Come on in." Adam opened the door wider for Kevin to come in. "Hey bro! Good to see you. You've been busy. Life's good though. I have the schedules to go over and the interview schedule." Kevin made his way to the dinning room to set up the papers to go over. He would also send the information right to the calendar on Adams phone to help him remember.
"Man dont start on the interviews. You know I don't want to do them anymore after the last one bashed Kim's career. I won't have that! My family is off limits. I won't have her disrespected!" Adam all but yelled. The last interview he walked out on. It pissed him off. No one had the right to interject an opinion on his life especially his life with Kim. "Man look it's part of the job. You know that. Maybe they will let us preview the questions? You can veto ones that involve Kim. She knows it's part of the job too. She will be okay. But this isn't an option, you are doing the interviews and you will look happy doing them." Kevin was not playing around. This had to be done, no question. It's literally in the contract and he's blown it off small off season. They spend two hours going over the schedules. They both hate this stuff but it's necessary for the job. "All right I'm heading out. I will contact these interviewers and get a list of questions if they will provide it but will also make it clear you won't talk about your family. Okay talk soon bro." Kevin left after that. Adam was stewing. He needed Kim to calm him but she was at work. So work out it was.
"Hey baby! What's going on?" Kim answered her phone. Happy to hear his voice but felt like something was off. "Hey Darling. Just leaving the gym." Adam replied already feeling lighter just hearing her voice. "Babe today wasn't a work out day. What happened? And don't say nothing because I can hear it in your voice, you are frustrated." Kim knew something was wrong he never called while she was at work. "I went to the gym to take out my frustrations but it didn't help. I need you. You always help. I know you're working so I can't get what I really want right now but talking will help." Adam smiled at the implied suggestion. "You are very right. I'm working so that us not happening right now but I promise later. You can work it out all you need but tell why are you frustrated?" Kim was smiling trying not to give too much away since her co workers could hear. She had eyes on her that's for sure. "I had my meeting with Kevin today. He told me I need to stop being an ass and start doing interviews again. I just haven't wanted to do them since that women disrespected you. I'm still passed about it." He explains, sighing knowing he has to suck it up. "Adam look Kevin is right. You can't ignore the media all together. You don't want to talk to the paps that's fine but the reporters are who help you stay successful. You are an all star and to be one again you need media coverage. You are on a World Series championship team to stay you need media coverage. One reporter was rude about me and my career, don't let that ruin yours. I know it sucks but you have to do this. You put off long enough." Kim started to laugh as Nick, the new guy, stared at her jaw dropped. "Darling why are you laughing?" Adam asked knowing he was missing something. "Oh the new guy, my temporary replacement in the field heard out conversation and is figuring out who I'm talking to. I guess he didn't know I'm marrying Adam Ruzek." Now they are both laughing. "Okay well back to what you were saying. You are right. I will call Kevin and work this out. Okay I will let you go. But you and me tonight. Don't forget!" He laughed like she would forget. "Okay love you babe. Bye". Kim replied. "Love you too. Be safe." Adam hung up and called Kevin back to work it all out he didn't want to lose fans. They were right.
"So wait your telling me that you are getting married to Adam Ruzek of the Cubs? And having his child? And you were on the phone with him implying that you will be having sex later on with Adam Ruzek of the Cubs?" Nick couldn't believe what he just heard. "Well you don't get pregnant with out sex so yes to all your questions. And yes I still work full time and yes he's fine with me being a cop. Any other questions?" Kim grew tired of these questions when people found out. It's funny at first but it always drags on way to long for her liking. "Has everyone met him?" Nick asked still in shock. "Yes they have all met him. They been to our house, they have been in his suite at the ballpark. We all been to Molly's together. So yeah". Kim was now over it all. Nick realized that and went back to his work.
After a long day with no case the team agreed to go to Molly's. Kim however declined and headed home. She promised Adam a night alone and she was not going back on that so off towards home she went. Picking up dinner along the way. "Boys I'm home with dinner!" Kim called out as she walked in from the garage. Jackson came running towards her full stream. He was so excited! "Hey momma! So happy your home!" Jumping up and down in front of her. "Hey baby. Were you good today? Did you have fun with Grace and Nadia?" Kim asked as they moved towards the kitchen. Adam met them in the kitchen with plates for the take out. "Momma we had a great day. Daddy and I skate boarded today!" Jackson was super excited about it. He couldn't wait till he could be outside all the time again. "That's great! Hey babe! Feeling better yet?" Kim hugged Adam after putting dinner down. "Hey Darling! Somewhat better but tonight will make it all better. You know us time always make me feel better. But first let's eat." Adam kissed her hard before pulling away to plate the dinner. They made small talk over dinner. Mostly Jackson talking about his day. She loved dinner with her family.
At Molly's the team hung out around a table with Nick trying to get to know him some. But they felt they needed to talk about earlier. "Look so about earlier we just want you to now that Kim's life it's private. They don't talk about it publicly and we all want to keep it that way. Our unit handles classified information all the time, we get information that no other unit gets. It doesn't matter if you are in Vice, Robbery, homicide or gangs, we are privy to more classified information than any one else. We want to keep it that way. So whatever you heard today and going forward while you are temping stays with you and only you. Does that make sense?" Jay had been the one who was designated to speak on behalf of the team. "Yeah no I get it. Was just a huge surprise. I'm sure you get that." Nick replies. "We do but acting and undercover is a huge part of this job. If you can't keep your cool with that information how are you going to handle being undercover buying drug or guns? Our lives are in your hands more than any other unit. Just try to remember that." Erin spoke this time knowing he needed to know the truth about this unit and how things worked. It lasted about another hour of getting to know you conversation before they all headed home.
Back with Adam and Kim, Kim got Jackson ready for bed and read him his bed time story before tucking him. "Good night sweetheart. Love you baby!" She kissed his forehead before heading towards the door and turning off the lights. "Night momma. Love you too." Jackson fell asleep quickly afterwards. Kim headed to her room where Adam was already waiting. Kim wanted to shower but knew that was pointless to start with since she would just need another one later. "Is he asleep?" Adam asked when she walked in. "Yeah he barely made it through the book. The skate boarding it wearing him out." Kim answers as she walked closer to Adam.
Kim started to get undressed when Adam walked up behind her. "Darling that's my job. Are we using toys or not tonight?" Adam asked as he took over undressing her. "This night is about you releasing your frustrations. Whatever you want baby." Kim replied. "Okay then toys it is." He headed to the closet before coming back to finish undressing her and kissing her hard. The frustrations starting to melt away. Loving how just one person could calm him just by being together. Also loving the trust she gave him to allow him complete control in vulnerable moments like this. An hour later Adam fell beside Kim panting, breathing heavy, heart racing. "Feeling any better now?" Kim asked chuckling. "Completely but I'm not done. That's for sure. I just want to spend all night with you, forever!" Adam answered as he pulled her into his arms. Kissing her slowly like they had all the time in the world. After two more rounds they moved to the shower for a final round before actually cleaning up before going to bed. Tired, happy, sore but feeling like they were both on top of the world.
