The next morning Kim awoke first. She could feel Adam breathing on the back of her neck. She squirmed a little as it was tickling her. She moved his arm just enough that she could roll over to face him. Studying his features as he continues to sleep. She was already missing him and he hadn't left yet. She decided that she was tired of the quiet so she leaned forward to start peppering kissing all over his face. She saw him starting to move a little, his eyes fluttering a bit as he was waking up under her kisses. Before she could even move he grabbed her and flipped them so he was hovering over her. Now he was the one peppering kisses all over her face before moving down her neck. Kissing, biting and sucking on his way further down. "What a way to wake up!" Kim giggled as Adam used his scruff to tickle her more. She was laughing so hard as this point that Adam no choice but to stop kissing her. So he pulled her into the shower to start the day.

After the shower they decided it was time to turn the phones back on. They were scared. Neither wanted to read or hear that their families didn't approve and that was a real possibility. After last night Adam wasn't as concerned because the family Kim chose that accepted him was thrilled for them and couldn't wait to meet the new baby. That was most important. They got dressed and headed downstairs to make breakfast. Jackson would be home soon so they wanted to make sure breakfast was ready when he got there. "Should we turn the phones back on? I'm scared but I mean we can't avoid it forever can we?" Kim asked kind of laughing at the thought of never turning the phone back on. "I don't think it's realistic to not have our phones turned on forever. But yeah we probably should turn them back on. Maybe it's better than we hoped?" Adam didn't believe that but he wouldn't tell her that. He was trying to stay positive for her. "Okay let's do this quick before I chicken out again." Kim says as she pulled out her phone. She watched Adam as he pulled out his too. They both looked terrified as they started the phones again. It seemed like forever till the phones turned on but then they were bombarded with notifications. It seemed like it never ended for like 5 minutes. When it finally ended they both stood in shock at the number of notifications they had.

Before they could process those messages the door bell rang. Jackson was home. They needed to be as normal as possible in front of him. He didn't need to know the stress they felt over their phones. "Hey boss. Hey buddy! Did you behave?" Kim asked as she opened the door to let them in. "Hi mommy. Daddy!" Jackson hugged Kim than ran over to Adam for hugs. "He was well behaved. Slept well. How was last night?" Voight asked. "It was good for the most part. Upton was there taking photos of us. Dawson stepped in to remove the photos from her phone and removed her from Molly's. But other than that it was a great night. We had tons of fun. Tons of laughs. It was definitely a good time. We are making breakfast if you want to stay?" Kim offered figuring he hadn't eaten yet. "Thank you but we ate already. Why do you both look off?" Voight asked concerned about their behavior. "Um our announcements were received by our families yesterday and we turned our phones off so we could enjoy the day. We turned them back on and you wouldn't believe the number of messages we both got. We are still nervous to actually read them though because what if they don't approve? It's scary." Kim explained while walking towards the kitchen. "To be honest and real here. Who cares? All that matters is what you two think. And from someone who is around you two all the time, I'm proud of you both and so happy for you both. You are both amazing parents. Adam stepped up from the moment he met Jackson and that was all we ever wanted to see for you both. We all love you all. This family will always support you no matter what. Just remember that." Voight finished noticing Kim was in tears. He just pulled her into a hug till the tears stopped. Adam just watched from his spot in front of the stove. Loving even more the family that Kim chose.

Voight left shortly after leaving the family to enjoy their breakfast. While Jackson had already ate breakfast he still wanted some of his daddies pancakes. Kim loved moments like this. Moments when the pure love and joy shown between them. She loved to get photos in these moments as memories for when Adam is away. Two more full days and then Adam will be leaving for Spring Training in Florida. She didn't want to think about that but it was coming quickly. After breakfast the boys went to the basement to roll around on the skate boards. Kim videoed the whole thing, it was too cute not to tape it. She shared it with a few select people who didn't know that Adam was as good as he was. Eventually Jackson got bored and wanted to go outside to play in the snow so outside they went. Kim was thankful because Champ went out with them. It gave Kim a chance to clean the floors without Champ attacking the vacuum or mop. Once the boys came back inside it was get Jackson down for a nap and warmed up in the process and then finally read the messages. It couldn't be avoided any longer.

"Well he's asleep and Champ is passed out on the floor snoring so they should be out for at least 2 hours. Man can he play hard!" Adam laughed as he settled onto the couch. Kim curled into his side. Shaking, phone in her hand, thinking about the worst case scenarios. "Okay let's agree that no matter what they say we don't let it effect our relationship with each other. Agreed?" Adam nodded and they both opened the text app first. They had several lovely messages from friends and family they don't see often. Some that didn't even know they were together so it was all a surprise. Then it came to reading the ones from their immediate family. "Well my mom is pissed we didn't tell her in person and that we don't speak at all. She's lucky I told her at all. My dad seems about as happy as he can muster all things considered. My sister is thrilled for us and can't wait to snuggle her newest niece or nephew. I haven't looked at my dms yet but so far it's not been bad." Adam was pleased that it was going well though Kim's face said otherwise. "Darling? What did they say?" Adam saw her face and he was scared for her. It didn't look good. "Well my parents think it's too soon for all of it and think we are only getting married because of the baby. They want me to quit my job and stay home to raise my babies. Then some guilt trip crap about worrying for my safety day in and day out. Basically the shit the spewed when I was pregnant with Jackson hence why they didn't meet him for years. My sister, my man hating sister spewed hate about men in general and how you will leave me when I'm fat and you will find a piece of ass on the road to hit, her words not mine. I now feel sick want to go to bed. So I'm going to take a nap." Kim started to leave but Adam pulled her back down onto his lap. "Remember I love you and our kids so much. Please don't ever forget that." He kissed her head before helping her up again. She made it to the stairs before turning back around. "I love you too. I just need some space right now. I knew it would be bad just not that bad." He nodded as she headed upstairs.

He sat there trying to figure out how to fix this. If he could fix it. He wasn't sure if it was possible. Maybe after the initial blow wears off she would be better but he wasn't sure. He needed to fix this and fast. He leaves in two days. He can't leave her broken like this. He had some ideas on how to make her smile again. First he had to call his lawyer. "Hey Matt sorry for calling but I need some help with something quickly." Adam started as he called Matt Miller. "Adam it's no worry. What's going on?" This was his job. To fix legal issues for Adam. "Okay so there is this cop that keeps taking photos of Kim and myself and has at least sold them to the tabloids once that we know of. It was suggested by a detective that we try to get a restraining order? Can you work that detective to get that to protect Kim, myself and the kids? I can't do my job knowing they are being watched and followed." Adam was very worried about leaving soon especially now. "Adam don't worry about this. I will work it out. Just for reference though you said kids? Is there something I need to know?" Now Matt was confused. The restraining order would be easy enough to work out but he needed all the information. "Yeah uh Kim is 4 months pregnant. She's due at the beginning of July. And we are getting married the end of October. Kim has too much going on to have this on her plate too. Detective Antonio Dawson at the 21sr district can help you with all the information about Officer Hailey Upton for the restraining order. I need this handled fast please." Adam knew that the faster this happened the better. "First off Congratulations man on the new baby and the upcoming wedding. Also I will get ahold of Dawson today and get to work on this. Hopefully it won't be a hard sell to a judge since kids are involved. Just try and relax and take care of each other. I will call you soon. Take care." Matt wanted to get started quick. This couldn't go on long. Not when kids and celebrities are involved. Adam relaxed some after his call with Matt. Next calls would be easier and more fun.

"Hey Erin it's Adam Ruzek. Hope you are doing well. I need some help." Adam was hoping the Halstead's could help him. "Hey Adam. We are great. What's going on? How can I help?" Erin asked. Curious why he was calling. He never had before. This peaked her interest. "So as you know the announcements went out and let's just say not everyone was thrilled about the baby and the wedding. Kim's upset which I don't blame her for but still she's upset. I was hoping you and Jay could help me with a few things to help her smile again." Adam explained. "Of course we would love to help what can we do to help?" Erin asked as she was happy to help make her bestie happy again. "So I was hoping Jay could help me move the guest room furniture to the storage area in the basement so I can start getting the new nursery ready and I was hoping you could get some bridal magazines so she can start looking for dresses for the wedding. And maybe get some light grey paint samples swatches for Kim to choose from? I think if she sees the effort I'm putting into helping plan these out before I have to leave for work it will help ease the insecurities that I know she has after talking to her parents and sister." Adam was stressed about their reaction. He wasn't surprised but it did stress him out. "Absolutely! I love the idea. I will drop Jay off when I run out. We will shortly. See you soon." Erin was happy to help in this. "Thanks see you guys soon." Adam got off the phone and headed up stairs to see if Kim was still asleep. He was surprised to see Jackson and Champ were in bed with her sound asleep. It was adorable.

Jay texted when he arrived hoping not to wake Kim for her nap. He could only imagine how upset she must be over her families reaction. He didn't know what was said but he knew it must be horrible for her to be sleeping during the day, saying she needed space. "Hey. Come on in. Thanks for coming so quickly. The room is this way." Adam started walking quietly towards the guest room. "Hey no problem. Anything to help Kim out. I assume her parents and sister were completely rude about all the upcoming events?" Jay asked as he followed Adam. "Yeah they want her to quit her unsafe job and stay home to raise the kids. They also I want to marry her because she's pregnant. And her sister said I will leave eventually like all men do. Kim needless to say is crushed." Adam was crushed for her. He couldn't believe them for acting like this. No wonder Kim cut them out of her life the past few years. "Well that's just awful. I guess this explains why they never met Jackson before this past year when Kim was shot. Let's get this done before she wakes up." Jay knew it wouldn't take long to clear out this room so he just wanted to get started. "Alright we just need to move this bed and the dresser. And then I can take care of the bedding and pillows and stuff. Kim wants to hire Matt Casey to paint the room for her so I'm good with that." Adam explained as they started getting the bed undressed so they could get the items moved. It didn't take long for the room to become empty. Just in time for Erin to stop back with the paint samples and magazines. Once they left he headed upstairs again to box up the bedding and take it to the storage room with the rest of the stuff. He was happy the room was now empty. He took the time to also move the crib parts into the room as well so he could put it back together.

When Kim and Jackson awoke they were both feeling refreshed. "Hey buddy. What are you doing in here? I thought you guys were asleep in your room." Kim asked Jackson as he snuggled into her side. "Well Champ woke me and made me follow him in here. Guess he wanted to be with you." He shrugged not really knowing why Champ got all worked up. "Well I'm glad you are here. Let's go see what your dad is up to Okay?" She asked. He nodded as he got out of bed. They headed downstairs to find Adam in the kitchen making a snack. He was hungry after all the work he had done. "Hey how was the nap?" Adam asked as he saw them walking towards him. "Daddy we had a great nap with mommy. What are you making?" Jackson asked as he hugged Adam and settled on his hip. "Well I'm glad you had a good nap. And I'm making a snack. Do you guys want some too?" Adam asked as Jackson nodded. "Darling you want a snack too?" He offered hoping to see her smile again. "That would be nice thanks babe." They sat around the table sharing a snack.

After they ate Kim cleaned up the dishes and noticed the bags on the counter top. "Adam what is all this?" Kim asked as she questioned as she lifted the bag. "I had a friend pick up some surprises for you today. We have a bunch of bridal magazines and I also got you some light grey paint samples so we can decide on the color for the nursery. Also with some help the room has been cleared out so it's ready for us to get it set up for the new baby." Adam was explaining as he took out the magazines for her to see and the colors. He noticed she was smiling again. "I take it I did good?" He asked grinning at her. "Definitely baby! Thank you so much. I love you so much for this." Kim pulled his face down so she could kiss him. "Anything to see you smile again. And I love you too. I don't want you to every forget that!" Adam hugged her tight before heading into the living room to play games with Jackson for a bit.

After dinner and Jackson was in bed for the night Kim and Adam sat down to start looking at the paint samples before choosing one and then heading to the internet to look for furniture for the babies room. "Okay so I'm thinking I want real wood furniture for the dressers, less issues that way with them breaking or falling apart. Plus I don't have to put it together. Also I had originally thought about not getting a second rocking chair but I don't want to bring a fussy kid into a room where a kid is sleeping peacefully. If that makes any sense." Kim had a lot of time to think bring on desk duty so these were things spinning in her head. "Kim I'm fine with that. I want this to be easy on you since I won't always be here. And I agree with not disrupting a sleeping kid with one that is crying. So yeah let's that do that." Adam agreed before looking for furniture. "Also I want to order as much of the decorations and bedding and other stuff from target so they can deliver it to my car. That way we won't risk a ton of people finding out about the baby. And then the team can help me bring it in the house. I can have most of it done in a few weeks. Especially since we have so many handy me downs from Jackson. I will need to replace the bottle and stuff since they break down over time but that's easy to order. Oh and we need to start researching car seats and duel strollers too." Kim was rambling but excited to start shopping. Money wasn't really an issue this time so she could order all at once and not string it out forever. "Darling that's fine. Use my card and get what we need. Don't worry about it. I know you saved a lot of stuff to reuse and I appreciate that but we do need a decent amount of stuff so just buy it and don't stress about it. We have the funds so just do it." Adam explained to calm the ramblings. Kim just reached up to kiss him. She was so happy to be with Adam and that he trusted her to do this and spend what they needed to have a perfect nursery.

"Are you ready for bed now?" Kim crawled onto Adams lap kissing his jaw line before heading down to his neck. Adam moaning as he lifted Kim up and threw her over his shoulder as he carried her into the bedroom. "I think I got my answer." Kim giggled as he dropped her onto their bed. Adam laughed. "Yeah you did." He started to kiss her all over while slowly removing her clothes. It didn't take long before they were both naked, sweaty and gasping for breath. "God this never gets old and I hope it never changes." Kim whispered out of breath. "I can guarantee it won't change. I do have a question for you. Do you want the kids to follow in your footsteps? I mean I'm fine either way I just wanted to see how you felt." Adam always wondered that. Kim was resting her head on his chest. Breathing had returned to normal but they were just enjoying each other company. Their bare skin touching in the most intimate way. "Um I guess I'm happy no matter what they do. I just want them to be happy. Not force them into a sport or career they don't want." Kim really only wanted her kids to be happy with whatever they did. She wouldn't judge like her parents had. "Your parents didn't want you to be a cop at all did they?" Adam asked. He kind of knew the answer already. "Yeah they said I wasn't strong enough. Wasn't tough enough. They wanted me to keep dancing. I just couldn't do it anymore." Kim answered honestly. Adam looked shocked, confused. "Wait? You were a professional dancer? How did I not know?" He was in disbelief. "Um yeah that kind of how I ended up in Chicago. I was a principal dancer in the Chicago ballet. But it's so cut throat, brutal honestly. The length in careers is short, it's expensive and the rules are insane. What you can eat and when. How long you practice. I have had more broken toes then I can count. Sprains, pulls, strains, bruises all over my body and the missed periods because I wasn't eating enough and didn't weigh enough. I stayed because that's what they wanted for me since I was a kid. I walked away before I lost everything. Mentally I couldn't take it anymore so I left. I don't regret it. I don't regret losing my families respect and real love. I just don't want our kids to think that love is conditional on doing something we want that they don't love. It would feel like a true failure to me." Kim was speaking while staring into space. She didn't even realize he was watching her amazed by this whole life that she lived and never spoke of it. "Darling. You are literally the most amazing person ever. I can't imagine what that most have been like. To live a life you don't enjoy, afraid to leave to make yourself happy. I don't understand that world but principal dancer sounds pretty important. Is that like the lead or star? Whatever they call it?" Adam had no idea what that world was like. He never knew anyone from that world before.

"Yeah I was a lead in several productions. I remember the last show I was in the choreographer yelled all the time about everything. He criticized every little thing I did. It was never good enough. I had so many bruises every day trying to get it perfect, trying to make his happy. I danced 18 hours a day. Never ate and he still called me over weight. So I quit. I had body issues for awhile. Learning it was okay to eat and I wouldn't necessarily get fat. Learning that I don't have to dance all day to be perfect, learning I don't have to be perfect at all and it's okay. I don't talk about because it still hurts. The anger, guilt, the pain, it all feels real just reliving it." Kim was still staring into space she didn't even realize Adam had moved so he was holding her better. Able to press kisses on her temple as she spoke. He was really starting to understand the bigger issues that led to the breakdown with her family.

"You don't have to tell me more. It's okay. I can't feel your heart breaking as you continue to speak about it. I'm so sorry you had to endure that. No one should have to continue doing a job they don't like anymore. And no one should be abused at that job. It may not have been physical abuse but it was abuse none the less. And I'm sorry about that. The kids, myself and your chosen family love you more than anything. We know how tough and strong you are. Never forget that. Promise okay? I love you!" Adam pleaded in the end. Kim nodded before adding "I love you too baby. And thank you for just listening and not judging me. I know we aren't supposed to keep secrets but this just isn't something I want to remember." Kim voice was flat almost emotionless. It was weird for Adam, she was always so full of life. This was rare for sure, he knew she would Okay but she needed time. And in a sense he needed time to process what she had just told him. He hear about the abuse she suffered mentally and physically for her craft, for her job that she stopped loving. It was truly heartbreaking.

"Let's get some sleep okay. We can always talk in the morning." Adam kissed her head and turn them so she was laying in his chest again. She was quiet. He thought she was asleep till he felt a cold wetness on his chest. She was crying, releasing the pain she held for so long. The pain that was built up by not talking about it. She never told anyone how bad it was. Because no one would believe her. It's just how this business worked, harsh, unforgiving and down right abusive. "It's okay. Just let it all out. I will always be here for you and always support you. I love you so much. And always will. Just cry till you feel better. I'm here." Adam continued to speak softly to her while rubbing his hand up and down her back. Dropping soft kisses every so often. Whispering words of love and support. God he loved this women who was falling apart in his arms.

Later in the evening he heard her breathing even out. He knew she was finally asleep. Finally at peace for the night. While the story saddened him he was interested to know if she could still dance and if she still had photos or costumes from that time frame. He would not ask any time soon. He would let her be for now. When she was ready she would tell him more. He was just thankful to know this much and that she didn't push him away. She allowed him to comfort her in her time of need. He hoped that this comfort will last once he's left for spring training. He learned that speaking about past trauma does help more than he ever thought possible.
