When Kim awoke the next morning she felt happy even with the extra weight holding her down. She knew he was still asleep and she also knew today was the day he left for spring training. That thought alone burst the happiness bubble she felt when she woke up. She rolled over to face him knowing this is the last time for a few weeks they would wake together. "Good morning baby". Kim cooed as she tried to wake him gently. She kissed feather light kisses all over his face watching as he slowly awoke. His eyes slowly opened when their eyes locked a dreamy loo sided grin appeared on his face. "Morning darling. I love being woken up like that!" Adam spoke before leaning forward to capture her lips in a long slow kiss.
"How are you feeling this morning? I know last night was kind of intense." Adam looked deep into her eyes as he spoke. Knowing last night had been hard for her to relive. "I was happy when woke up before remembering you leave today. Otherwise I'm okay. It needed to be discussed. Probably should have happened sooner but you can see why I don't like to talk about it." Kim kept their eyes locked as she spoke about last night. "I get it Kim I really do. I'm not upset that you didn't tell me. I'm upset by what you went through. And as for today I don't want to leave either but I will be back and we will talk everyday. I do have a few questions though. If you are okay answering them?" Adam asked with a cheeky grin on his face. She knew this would be interesting to say the least. "Okay what's up? Let me hear it. This ought to be good." Kim laughed as she replied. "You got any pictures of you in those outfits dancing? And can I see you dance at some point? Preferably in one of those outfits?" Adam laughed but was serious in his questions. "In my storage unit yes there are photos, outfits and trophies. And yes I still dance occasionally. Maybe if you behave during spring training you will get a reward." Kim winked at the end of her remarks. Knowing it would get him riled up. "Your killing me Darling." Adam groaned. "Shower time then we have to get ready. I have a half day before you leave." Kim headed to the shower afterwards while Adam got Jackson up and ready for the day.
Kim was thrilled when she got downstairs to see both her boys laughing and making breakfast for the family. "Morning boys! What's going on in here?" Kim smiled wide as she walked into the kitchen. "Morning mommy! We are making breakfast. Do you want some?" Jackson asked while giggling loudly. "Breakfast sounds amazing. After breakfast you are going to spend extra time with dad before he leaves for spring training Okay?" Kim asked. "Yay! Love time with just daddy! We have lots of fun together." Jackson kept giggling. Adam keeping a close eye on him so he didn't fall off the counter tops. "It will be a great day. And I only have to work a half day so I will be home early before daddy leaves Okay." Kim asked hearing her phone ringing. Jackson nodded as she walked towards her phone. Adam watching as she lifted it with a sigh.
"Detective Burgess. How can I help you?" Kim asked. Adam looked confused. Assuming it couldn't be work based on how she answered. "Good morning this is a Brian Williams for the Chicago Sun times. We would like a comment regarding your relationship status with Adam Ruzek? We have reason to believe you are getting married and having a child together." "No comment. I don't comment on my personal life or on my job. Call again and I will have you arrested for harassment." Kim hung up quickly after that. "Darling who was that? Are you okay?" Adam asked, with a very concerned look on his face. "Reporters. They know about our wedding and our baby. The wanted a comment. I want to know who leaked it? I'm so pissed off." Adam pulled her into a hug. Knowing this was the last thing they wanted. "Baby we will get this handled. Head to work and talk to Mouse maybe he can track who leaked it. I love you darling. Don't forget that." Adam assured him. "Okay. I love you too. Try to have a good day. I will call you later." Kim commented. They kissed before she headed out the door.
Kim arrived at work pissed off and everyone could see it. "Who pissed in her Cheerios this morning?" Jay whispered when she walked past. "I don't know. Maybe she's upset because Adam leaves today? Let's go talk to her." Erin commented while Jay looks at her like she was crazy. "Alright but if she rips my head off it's your fault." He joked as they headed to the break room. Erin laughed as they continued to the break room. "Kim are you okay? You seem really upset today. What can we do to help?" Erin asked gently. "Chicago Sun Times called for a comment about my relationship with Adam. They know about the baby and the wedding. I'm crushed. We didn't want the public to know about either. I don't know what to do." Kim cried after she finished telling the story. Both Erin and Jay sat next to her. Rubbing her back to try to soothe her. "Oh Kim. We will work hard to fix this. Anything you need we will be here for you." Erin Gabe her a side hug. Trying to comfort her. "Mouse can you come up to the break room? Kim needs your help." Jay spoke into his phone. Kim and Erin surprised they he called Mouse without them asking.
When Mouse arrived they explained the situation. He knew what needed to be done and went to work quickly. Voight came into the break room to get the team ready for the day. "Come on guys we have work to do. We deal with whatever this is later." The three moved to their desks to get their paperwork done. After about an hour Mouse comes up and places a note on Kim's desk with the information of the leaker. She was shocked and called Adam immediately. "Baby mouse figured out who leaked it. I hate to tell you but it was your mom and she got a huge payout for it." Kim knew Adam would be pissed. "Darling I'm so sorry. We are out running around. Be there soon so we can talk about it in person. And maybe Mouse can show me what he found. Okay?" Adam was fuming, but didn't want Jackson to see him upset. "Okay its a paperwork day so far so I will see you soon. Love you." Kim hung up after. Sighing heavily before sinking further into her chair.
"Skinny britches, boy wonder is here to see you and he brought Jackson." Platt announced as she entered the bullpen. "Thanks Platt. Hey babies." Kim hugged Adam who was holding Jackson on his hip. "Hey Darling." Adam hugged her back kissing her temple. "Hey Jackson why don't you go say hi to your aunts and uncles and Grandpa Hank while I talk to Daddy Okay?" Kim asked as Jackson nodded enthusiastically. "Okay so this is what Mouse showed me. This is the email chain showing that she approached the newspaper with the info and here's the email with the actually photos of our announcements. And here is the payment amount and where it's being sent to. I know what I want to do about this but it's up to you." Kim showed him everything. She could see him processing the information. The blank look like he wasn't sure what was going on. But his breathing gave him away. It was heavy and erratic. He was trying to stay in control. "You want to cut her out completely. No more contact, no more information, no holiday cards. Done completely right?" Adam asked quietly but some what controlled. "Yes. She put our kids at risk and I can't forgive that. But it's your mom. You have to decide how you want to handle it." Kim replied but for the first time noticing small tears in his eyes. "I agree. It hurts to say it but I agree. This was uncalled for. She should have known the risks. I'm sorry she needed money but this wasn't the way to do it. I'm sorry. I should have known better than to send this to her." Adam was mad at his mother but also himself for not realizing this could happen. "Baby I don't blame you Okay. It's her fault, not yours. We are okay." Kim held him for what seemed like forever while the team watched but didn't stare.
A throat clearing sound brought them out of their embrace. "Why hello handsome. My names Isabella Sanchez I'm a detective here. What's your name?" She asked Adam as a round of gasps came from around the room. "Taken, happily taken. That's my name. I'm assuming since you are up here that you know my fiancé and the mother of my children Kim right? Well that's all you need to know. Please leave so we can finish our conversation." Adam was not in the mood for this. The room burst into laughter as Sanchez stalked off to the locker room. Voight entered the room with Jackson in tow. "What did I just miss that was so funny?" He asked sending Jackson towards his parents. "Sanchez just hit on Adam and he flat out told her no and to leave. It was hilarious. She took off towards the locker room." Jay told him as he continued to laugh. Voight smiled and walked towards Adam. "You guys okay? First she's crying now your here. What's going on?" He asked. Curious but confused. "My lovely mother sold our announcements to the papers in exchange for cash so now the world knows something that should be private. Something we didn't want the public to know at all. So it's been a tough day so far and I leave today as you know." Adam finished talking only to see sadness in Voights eyes. Like he felt bad for them. "Okay well you guys take off. Kim's not much use right now anyways. Have a safe trip and I will see you tomorrow." With that Voight left.
They left shortly after that. Kim saw Sanchez in the locker room with her face in her hands looking embarrassed and upset. Kim didn't even bother saying anything. She just grabbed her stuff and left for the day. She had better things to do. They headed home to have lunch as a family. Once they got home they let a Champ outside as they prepared lunch together. Laughing and joking together. In their home it seemed like the could face anything as long as they were together. After lunch the boys headed to the basement to skateboard for a bit. They soon headed to the airport where the team was meeting to leave today for Florida for spring training. It would six weeks apart but they knew they could make it work. Adam never gave her a reason to doubt him so they would be fine as long as they had trust in each other.
They arrived at the airport walking slowly towards the TSA area. Adams luggage had been in the trailer that left for Florida days ago so he had very little to carry with him. Just last minute items and something to keep him busy on the flight. "Well we are here. I guess this is where we say good luck and see you soon. No goodbyes. I'm going to try and fly down with Jackson before I can't fly anymore. So we will see you soon. We love you so much!" Kim cried as she kissed Adam goodbye. "Darling I love you too. And I will talk to you everyday. I promise! Nothing is going to come between us I promise that too. Jackson buddy, daddy loves you so much and I will see you soon. Just like before I will read you a bedtime story every night. Spring training or not that is not changing. Give me hugs and kisses. I have to go." Adam was chocking up now too. They all hugged. "Love you too daddy." Kim held Jackson as they said so long. Watching him walk towards TSA, turning once more to wave at them and blowing them kisses. And then was gone. Kim and Jackson slowly walked back to the car sniffling. They would see him again soon.
They drove home in silence. While this was his job it was still sad when he had to leave. They got home and let the dog out. They ordered some take out and put on a movie while they ate dinner. Kim tried hard to keep things as normal as possible even though she was sad. Right before 8pm the phone rang with FaceTime, it was Adam calling as promised to read Jackson his story. After the story was over Kim tucked Jackson in and then headed down stairs to sit on the couch and talk to Adam for a bit longer. She could see he was tired and she didn't blame him one bit. "Baby what's going on? You look tired and frustrated?" Kim asked once she was settled onto the couch. Wrapped in her favorite blanket that smelled like Adam. "I called my mom when I arrived. You can imagine how that went. And the team wanted to bar hop tonight which I had no interest in so they razzed me about it but that I don't care about. Talking to my mom just drained me you know. I also texted my sister to let her know what happened as well." Adam finished with a long sigh. "Baby I'm so sorry you are dealing with this alone. I wish I could be there to help with it. Is there anything I can do?" Kim wished nothing more than them being together right now but that wasn't possible.
"Darling it's fine and definitely not your fault. She admitted it. Saying she was desperate for money and I wasnt returning her calls so she did what she had to do. So I told her that's she cut out completely. No contact, no visits, no updates and definitely no announcements. Neither of us trust her around us or the kids. But enough of that. What are your plans for tonight?" Adam was done with the topic so he moved on. Hoping she would too. "Well I am finishing up the large target order for the new babies room. I still need to spend some time in the storage area going through Jackson's old clothes and things to see what I can reuse but I had all the new things we need in the cart I just have to finalize it. This order is mostly the crib sheets, decorations, bottles, pacifiers, diapers, wipes and so on. I think I saved most of the bibs and burp clothes from Jackson and other things that store away easily. So that's my big thing for tonight. What are you doing?" Kim was excited to start the babies room. Having a project would help keep her mind straight.
"Well that's a great plan Kim. Don't forget, use my card for all of it. I know how much you saved and how much we are reusing so it's the least I can do. And tonight Kevin and I are heading to dinner then back here early to be well rested for tomorrow. I don't want to be hung over on day one and trust me lots of people will be. It's like kids going to college for the first time. Bunch of damn frat boys. I'm too old for that shit!" Adam laughed towards the end. He wasn't old by any means but he had his life together and partying wasn't a part of that life. Kim laughed at him "Oh yeah you are so old. Haha. But I'm glad you are resting tonight you need it after today." Kim paused when she heard a knock on the door. Adam got up to answer it with her in his hand still. "Hey Kev. I'm almost ready just finishing up with Kim. Come on in. Darling I got to go but I will call you later. Love you." Adam heard her say love you before he blew her a kiss and hung up. "Okay let's get some dinner." Adam and Kevin headed out talking about his call with Kim and Jackson as they reached the car.
That night had been harder than expected for both Kim and Adam. They had grown accustomed to sleeping next to each other. The comfort they found in each other's arms, knowing they weren't alone in anything. But now they were apart, a thousand miles separated them. It was hell. To get through this FaceTime would be their best friend so they could stay in contact face to face. They never realized how comfortable they had gotten with the routine but they would make it and stronger than before. If they could make it through psycho exes, crazy families and injuries they could do anything as long as they were together.
Adam arrived for this first day of training before Kim even woke up to start her day. It was an hour time difference which they would have to keep an eye to make sure they didn't disrupt the others sleep routine or work schedules. He always loved the first day on training, the fresh warm air, the fresh cut grass and the excitement of the new season. He couldn't wait to get started. He found his locker quickly and started getting dressed. He knew he had time before practice started but he wanted extra time to stretch his back and work on his hand to make sure he was fully ready to practice. As the team trickled in everyone greeted each other with open arms and congratulations on his up coming wedding and upcoming baby. Since he didn't see some of these people often since they didn't live full time in a Chicago it was great to see them again and start bonding again for the season ahead.
