Isabella and Ilana were finally done. They had been packing almost all of their stuff in the biggest trunks they could find. Their conversation a few days ago made them realize that sooner or later, they had to escape, or else they would be sold.
Isabella remembered her and Lana's conversation with Lalaina and Natalie. The two were absolutely horrified at Miranda and co. and had assured the twins that they would talk to the head maid at the castle, and luckily enough, she had accepted the offer (considering the fact that she had just fired her third maid this month) and Isabella and Ilana could start living in the castle as maids, occasionally being seamstresses. And they could attend dance school with the money they earned.
"There, all done," said Ilana as she finished packing her trunk, startling Bella out of her thoughts, "Now the question is, how do we escape?"
"I think we should get proof that they're trying to sell us. That way we'll have a higher chance of getting the revenge we want," said Bella.
"You have a point, I spied on our 'dear step-mother' writing a letter to whoever is buying us. I also saw that she has 2 of them, so that if she loses one, she'll have another. We can just sneak one of them with us and she'll think that she lost it," said Lana, already having planned things, "Of course, we need a proper distraction to be able to steal it."
"I've already prepared the distraction."
"You have?"
"Mmm hmm, remember the firecrackers in the attic?"
"You, Isabella, are a genius!"
The girls continued their planning late into the night.
The next morning, Anastasia and Drizella continued to be 'nice' to Isabella and Ilana as their mother instructed. Of course, they didn't do the cooking or the cleaning — considering the fact that they didn't even know how to cook or clean, much less do it — they kept smiles on their faces and weren't as demanding with their food and it obviously pleased Miranda, she knew that her girls were dumb and had no manners, she tried to fix it, but nothing worked. At least they were creative when it came to getting rid of the twins.
Sighing, she finished the 3rd copy of the same letter she had finished twice already, one for her, one for Anastasia, and one for Drizella. It read :
Morden,
It is your duty to make sure these girls are sold to a country so far away, they won't be able to return. If you fail, I shall make sure YOU never return.
Lady Miranda
There now, that seemed enough of a threat. Not that she would ever be able to get rid of him. This way, Morden will definitely be getting rid of those blasted twins. No, not her twins, but her late husband's twins.
Plastering a smile on her face, she stepped out, to get said blasted twins. As she neared the entrance to the garden, she called, "Girls, come here please."
All 4 girls came, and she asked them all to sit down in the parlour near the main entrance of the house, and told them to wait. She went back into her room, where she kept the 3 letters, to get them all out. Only, there weren't 3 letters, there were just 2. Hurriedly and hastily, she searched for the other one, but didn't find it. Perhaps Drizella had taken it in advance, she seemed to be most intent on getting rid of them. She quickly grabbed the money pouch for Morden. Taking a few deep breaths, she went back into the parlour, where the twins seemed to be on guard, while her twins were looking excited.
"Isabella, Ilana," she said, "Drizella, Anastasia and I are very sorry for treating you the way we did, but you already know that," she looked at her girls to give them the signal.
"Mmm hmm, we're sorry," said Drizella.
"We really are," said Anastasia.
"Which is why, we've decided to give you an apology gift, right now, a carriage is waiting outside for you, the driver is a good acquaintance of ours, he will take you to whichever clothing store you desire. Here's the money, enjoy your trip!" she said, with as much enthusiasm as possible.
The girls exchanged glances, and chorused : "Of course, stepmother, thank you so much!" Miranda smiled, a true smile, these girls were so naive.
"But," said the brunette, "could we please change into more proper clothes for shopping?"
"You know, as these dresses aren't very clean due to work in the garden," piped up the reddish-brown haired one.
"I suppose," she said, to make her act convincing.
Isabella and Ilana knew exactly what was going on, this was their time to escape. Neither expected it to be so soon, but it was. Ilana changed her dress, while Isabella kept watch for her family. Then vice-versa. Their dresses were similar, with their skirts removable, and under each of those skirts was a knife. They had already sent their trunks to the castle yesterday night with Lalaina and Natalie.
"Bella, do you have the letter for future proof?" Asked Ilana.
"Yes, that stray firework we set off got them out of the house long enough for me to get it," replied Isabella, "Do you have the spare money pouch?"
"I do, have the knife as well. Can you believe they actually thought it was a celebration?"
"I know, idiots. Let's go. We'll be free of this place soon enough, and get our revenge."
They climbed down the staircases into the parlour, took the money from Miranda's hand, and after taking one last look at their father's and grandfather's home, climbed into the carriage.
The moment they were in, the money was snatched immediately, handcuffs were placed on their wrists and cloth around their mouths.
"HEY NO, LET GO OF ME AND!..." Bella's voice got muffled as the cloth was placed on her mouth.
"Shh, now, now, we want you to be nice and quiet for your future owners," said the driver, "SO START BEING DISCIPLINED!" he yelled.
Meanwhile, Ilana wildly thrashed around, kicking 1 of the coachmen in his shin.
"OWW, why you little brat!" he lunged at her, and luckily, Ilana managed to kick him in the eye and he fell unconscious.
The other coachman had already started driving the carriage, muttering "I thought the Boss said these two won't be trouble."
More fighting ensued, as they were on their way to the harbor, which passed the Royal Castle three quarters of the way. But soon, the girls were overpowered, even with the brilliant secret musketeering skills they had learnt for years. Plan A was thwarted. Not to worry, Plan B was ready.
About half an hour later, as they were closer to the castle, they slowly inches their hands towards their skirts, they grabbed the knives and began lock picking the handcuffs. Soon, they were free. Making sure not to wake the dozing coachmen, they easily untied the cloth on their mouths and were just about to escape, when the driver saw them.
"HEY! YOU TWO!" He yelled.
Isabella took charge of distracting and fighting the driver, while Ilana took his place. After another long fight, and a carriage driving of course and crashing into a tree, Bella and Lana finally made it to the Castle. By then, it was nightfall.
"Meow!"
"Midnight?" said Isabella.
"How did you get here?" said Ilana. They had been looking for her all day.
"She hid in one of your trunks. We found her yesterday night," came a voice. They jumped.
"Natalie!" said the two in unison.
"She seemed terrified in the new environment," came another voice.
"Lalaina!" they chorused again.
"They're with us," said Natalie in a confident tone to the half-asleep guards. They awoke with a jolt.
"Huh?"
"New hires!" Piped up Lalaina, "Come on gals."
Picking Midnight up, they followed Natalie and Lalaina to their new home. They, Isabella and Ilana, were finally free.
