Chapter Five

After an hour of stuffing his face with food Link was stood in the centre of the training hut with Professor Mort, an angry looking old man, with a beard down to the floor.

He was carrying a stick and when Link mocked the idea that this person could teach him anything he soon used that stick to put Link on the floor.

Link rubbed his arm and was then struck on the head,

"Ouch!"

"Go to the chest and pick up the sword" The professor said

Link went to the chest and opened it, reached in and took the sword. A weird jingle played and words appeared above his head.

"You have the Master Sword...but there's something missing, the blade is dull but none the less it is stronger than any other sword you've had up to now"

"Come here Link!"

"Uh huh!" Link obeyed

Link and the professor stood before each other and with the sword in his hand now Link somehow just knew how to use it.

"Spin attack! Hold your arm out and feel the energy build up then let it go and hit all these targets around you"

Link held out the sword and felt it vibrate, then when he could take it no more he spun and was quite unprepared for the speed at which he travelled across the room, he missed all but two targets and ploughed into his professor, sending him hurtling into a wall, which in turn knocked a shield onto his head,

"Oops"

"Oops? You say Oops?!" The professor growled

"It's been a while" Link sassed

"Again! And this time hit the targets!"

Link concentrated and built up the energy again, this time he hit 4 out of targets but the professor wanted all targets before he'd move on to the next.

Link got mad and this time hit all the targets and pinned the professor.

"Control that temper of yours" The professor said, "Save it for Zant and Ganondorf if it comes to it"

The next technique he was taught was the front flip slash,

"I trust you know how to roll?" The Professor asked. Link nodded, ran, flipped and brought the sword down the middle of a hanging trunk. "Good!" The professor said

Once the room had been set up again the professor looked around, there was a stump in the centre now,

"This next technique is a downward thrust, you can use it to create a final blow but you can also create quakes with it to bring down walls between you and enemies, be careful where you use this because once you seal an area you cannot get back through and not all walls can be blasted with bombs"

Link walked up to the stump and put all his power into driving the sword down into the stop and all the shields on the walls came crashing to the ground.

Once he'd learnt the side swipe, lunge attack and skyward strike he was ready to learn about where the power in his sword had gone and more about his mission.

"I was told that if I want to stop the twilight from spreading out I would need the ocarina to slow down time" Link said

"Actually given the barrier around Hyrule Town and the castle you can affect time in that space alone by three days. You can go back three days before Zant and the Shadow Princess took over but the barrier will still be in place to you for time outside it will continue as normal" The head master told him

"Woe! Will the residents know they can't get out?" Link asked

"You're going back in time, if they left and came back they will do so each time you play that tune" The head master told Link.

He handed Link the blue ocarina and Link stared at it in awe.

Words appeared above his head after the same jingle from before, saying "You got the Ocarina, you're not sure why but you feel very special right now and remind yourself not to gloat"

"Don't play that in here" Th head master told him as Link went to blow into it

"How can I help Zelda?" Link asked

"It seems the Shadow Princess used the opposites of four elements and your sword is void of these, since the last Link of Skyloft sealed Calamity Ganon he removed the elementals from the Master Sword and hid them throughout Hyrule, within ancient temples and they're not easy to get access to or navigate around. You need to go to Kokiri Forest and find The Great Deku Tree. He will tell you how to find the temple and what you'll need to gain access to it"

"What about getting access to Hyrule Town?"

"No point going there without Midna and she's trapped in a mirror shard, want to get her out you'll have to find the three missing shards, word is they're hidden in the sand temple somewhere in Gerudo desert" The head master told Link

"I understand" Link said, "How do I get back down? Where is the sail?"

"It was last seen with a farm girl in Kakoriko village but I'd hurry up if I were you, she plans to use it for a ballgown for her a carnival to be held in Hyrule Town"

Link was horrified

"Where's the outfit?"

"Ah, it's in that chest"

Link looked over at the chest and then ran to it, grabbing the heroes tunic, trousers, belt and boots but waved away the words above his head.

Link quickly changed into his new clothes, ran from the school, took a run, jump and dive and whistled for his Loft-wing.

He then road his Loft-wing up to a break in the clouds and jumped off again, spinning as he did so before turning it into a graceful dive.

As he fell through the air he heard a familiar voice,

"Hey Link!"

Link looked down in shock to see the cat poking out of his satchel,

"Uh!"

"Where do you want to land?"

"Huh?" He asked

"You have been to these places on the map, where would you like to land?"

The cat showed him a map and he tapped Lake Hylia.

The cat nodded and then Link found this lake coming into view.

"Wait! There's no one to catch me!"

Link panicked until Teba swooped over and caught him.

"You're going to be trouble I know, where is your sail?"

"The girl from Kakoriko has it" Link told him as they landed, "Oh, this is my cat"

"Excuse me I am not your cat and you just introduced me to a bird! He probably wants me for breakfast now!"

"I assure you I eat only game and you are not game, I wouldn't even order you for a starter" Teba retorted

Now the cat was offended,

"She's been helping me up there" Link said, "What're you doing back here? Thank you by the way"

"We were about to leave when something swept in and took hold of Corey" Teba squawked

"Which way did they go!?" Link asked

"Towards the East!" Teba said "And the desert"

Now Link had to decide where to go first, Kokiri Forest? Or the Desert Temple, he was woefully ill prepared for that but his friend was in danger and he could get the mirror shards while he was there...could Epona make it that far?

"They say you need "Other" senses to make it across" Teba shivered

Link looked at the cat,

"Your story not mine...there is a Poe, you could follow his light for a fee"

"We'll try that first" Teba said

"If you can get past the guards to the gate first" The cat said
