Lost bus ticket
Remus sighed as the rain started. No umbrella and a bag full of important school work. And his laptop. By the time he reached the bus stop, it would be pouring down. He knew that. Yet all he could was hope the world decided to take pity and stop the rain.
It didn't. Of course it didn't. If he'd been smart and checked the weather for today, maybe he wouldn't be about to ruin his shit. His eyes stayed focused on the floor, trying to keep the water out of them. "Wait," he muttered, stopping by the road crossing and shoving his hands in his pockets. "Fuck." He'd lost his ticket, and the spare change he had in case he lost his ticket.
Remus swung the rucksack from his bag, checking the outer pocket. Nothing. Then the part full of paper. Still nothing. For God's sake. Today just wasn't his day.
He'd missed his bus, forgot about two assignments, his laptop was dead and he didn't have the charge, and James had been pissing around. Now it was raining and he was screwed.
He didn't think anything else could go wrong. And luckily he was right, for about 10 minutes.
The cafe across the street would be good refuge until the rain stopped, or James actually answered his calls. But it felt awkward to sit in there and not buy anything. The rain was starting to fall heavier now, and it was still a 20 minute walk.
So, again, Remus attempted calling James. And once again, James didn't pick up. He groaned, shoving his phone in his pockets to try and keep it dry. It hadn't broken even after being dropped in a bath and on the floor a billion times, so a little rain wouldn't hurt it.
Then he saw Sirius leaving the cafe. The prick who sat at the front of his English lit and only fucked around. They were also the best in the class which made Remus resent them.
Shit, they saw him staring. "You okay?" They shouted across the street, mostly drowned out by the rain.
He stared at them, tilting his head, "What?"
They glanced down the road before running across, careful not to fall. They stopped in front of him, holding the umbrella over both of them. "Are you okay?"
"Yes, doing absolutely great," he sarcastically replied.
"I can tell," they mumbled, "You're James' friend, right? Remus, right?"
Remus nodded, "Sirius?"
"That's me. No umbrella?"
"Nope. No money either. Or car. And James won't answer me."
"Oh, that's pretty shit. James is out with Lily, so he won't answer. I was heading to drama, walk with me?" Remus shrugged in agreement, not like he had anywhere else to be. "And you can sit in the audience or something."
"Can I wear my headphones?"
"You don't like the performances?"
"I just don't have the attention span."
"You're soaking."
"Yes, I can tell." Sirius snorted, brushing their hair from their face. They started walking, trying to keep the umbrella high enough so it didn't hit the top of Remus' head. In the end, he ended up taking the umbrella. There wasn't a huge height gap, but Remus was still a few inches taller. Just as the pair entered the studio, Remus' phone rang. He answered it, stopping by the door as he did. "Hey mate, sorry I didn't answer," James told him, Lily talking in the background.
"No problem."
"What did you need? You called me like 4 times."
""It was pouring down. Haven't you looked outside?"
"Uh, no? Want me to come and get you?"
Remus glanced at Sirius, who was waiting for him by the door, chewing on their nails. He replied "In a bit, I'll call you."
"Oh? What're you up to?"
"With someone." He heard Lily whistle in the background, someone else, who sounded suspiciously like Marlene laughing. "Not like that. Sirius invited me to watch whatever they're doing in drama."
"You don't like Sirius."
"I don't like you anymore either. You left me to die out there."
"I- I did not. I was out shopping with my girlfriend."
"Traitor. So now I'm staying here until it finishes. Or I get bored."
"Fine, enjoy." James hung up before Remus could even reply. He scoffed at the phone, speed walking over to Sirius.
"Sorry, James called back."
They smiled, "No problem, come on."
So Remus followed them into the studio, taking a seat in the back of the empty audience and plugging his headphones in. He wasn't going to listen, but he was very happy to stare at everyone performing. Especially Sirius and Mary. He may not get along with them, but he could appreciate beauty when he saw it. And he sure as hell could see it right now.
