Chapter 20: Victory

Danny and Star were still kissing in victory, wanting this moment to last a while. The couple pulled away and smiled, staring at each other as they both felt relieved it was over.

"No dream could be this good..."Star said, happy that she had Danny in the real world.

Danny chuckled.

"I agree..."He said, holding her close.

Before they could continue, they suddenly heard someone clear their throat. They remembered that they weren't really alone as the others watched, with various reactions.

"Get a room you two, preferably one with very tinted windows..."Sam said with an eye roll, wanting to go home.

"Do you two need some more time to yourselves? Cause we can came back for guys later, if you two want..." Valerie playfully said, as she saw the matching red faces on their faces.

Both of them looked away from the others.

"Right…forgot about you guys..." Danny said, not really sorry.

Star was the same as she held onto him tightly. After a few moments, her best friend spoke up again, still looking amused to say the least.

"Well, if you guys don't need me anymore, I think I better head back home before my dad wakes up and wonders where I am..."Val said, as she check the automatic watch function in her suit to see just how late it really is right now.

"Thanks again for your help, Val..."Danny said, meaning it.

Val smiled at that.

"Anytime... before 10 at least..."She said.

Star, however, had something to ask and approached her best friend.

"Uh, Val...got a minute?..."She asked.

"Just barely..."Val said, following her.

The two females went to talk in private for a bit and the blonde girl waited until they were far enough, in order to discuss something.

"So, what'd you want to say to me?..."Val asked.

Star had to get it off her chest and began to speak to her best friend, wanting to get to the point and hopefully clear the air between her between best friend with a certain ghost dog.

"That was cool of you...What I mean is...thanks again for helping out...and for not shooting at Cujo into doggy bits when you had the chance..."She said in a sheepish way.

Val sighed.

"I still can't believe that you recruited him...but I guess he did help out..."She admitted as she looked at the ghost dog, who is now in his puppy form and trying to get the others to play with him.

Val had an unreadable look on her face, which Star noticed.

"Seriously? Are you okay? About Cujo?..."Star asked, worried.

Val sighed and remained silent a moment. The girl was a whirlpool of emotions as she got herself together and turned to her best friend.

"Well?..."Star said, feeling a little bit impatient to hear her best friend's response.

Valerie shook her head before answering her, glancing at the ghost dog over her shoulder. She was still looking conflicted right now.

"I'm still pretty peeved about what happened and I still haven't fully forgiven him for what that little mutt did to me and my Dad..."She said sternly, before her expression soften a bit, looking down.

"But..."She paused.

Star noticed.

"But?..."She repeated.

Val took a hard, long look at the green ghost pup who was oblivious to what was going on before sighing and looking back at her best friend.

"But...I know that it wasn't on purpose...I guess he is JUST a dog that does a little trouble without meaning too but I'm not gonna forgive and forget about everything that happened in one night. That's asking too much..."She said, not completely over what happened back then but also not as angry as before.

Despite it, Star smiled.

"Well, that's some progress..."She thought, happy that she was taking baby-talk steps to getting over it.

Val soon activated her jet-board and turned to the others.

"I'll see you guys around, hopefully during daylight hours..."Val said before jetting off.

Star smiled, happy that at the very least, this incident made her less hostile to ghosts...at least a little bit.

A few moments later

After Valerie left, the other members of Team Phantom were about ready to get going.

"Any chance she'll come back and give us a ride? I don't exactly live around the corner..."Sam said, crossing her arms.

Before Danny could answer her, he could feel Cujo tug his pants a bit, trying to get his attention.

"Arf! Arf!..."The ghost puppy yipped and wagged his tail, obviously wanting to play now that the danger is over.

"So? What exactly do we do with him..." Jazz said, pointing at Cujo.

Danny sighed.

He is fond of Cujo overall, but it's very late and while he did help them out, he's still too unpredictable to be left alone, especially at night.

"We can't just leave him like this..."He said as the ghost pup scratched his back without a care of what's going on.

"I better send him back to the ghost zone before he makes all the cats in town run away..."Danny said, as he pulled out the thermos.

Before he could do so, his girlfriend stepped in, stopping him before he could.

"Wait, before you send him back...I kinda made him a promise..."Star said, halting him.

"A promise?..."He asked, curious while his girlfriend asked him to wait a moment.

She then pulled out her cell phone and made the call. She then told Danny to change back to his human form and he did some, though he wondered what was up.

A few moments later, some lady on a scooter appeared and Star ordered Cujo to be invisible, which the pup surprisingly obeyed. They soon saw that it was Tracey, the same delivery girl that got Sam that Portals XL software that one time.

"Here you go, Star..."Tracey said, acting normal.

Most likely because, as far as she is concern, nothing abnormal happened tonight, except having pleasant dreams and waking up super suddenly, which she simply ignored it and continue with her duties.

Anyway, the delivery girl then handed Star a package and the blonde took it.

"Thanks, Tracey..."Star said as she handed her the cash, mostly since she didn't want to use her credit card on an order her dad might find out later.

Tracey took it and noticed someone else, namely someone she's seen before.

"Hi, Sam..."Tracey greeted her other previous customer.

"Hi..."Sam greeted while Danny seemed surprised.

"You work at this time too?..."He asked, surprised that she's working so late.

"I'm a night owl..."Tracey answered proudly. "I sleep 8 hours, I just split them between two sets of 4..."She added.

"Hey Tracey, it's been a while. So, does the delivery company you work for give any beneficial after-hours perks?...Tucker asked, trying to be flirtatious.

Tracey frowned and pulled out the voucher.

"I told you, I don't date clients. Plus, I'm 18 and in a relationship..."She said as she just handed the voucher.

After Star finished signing it, Tracey left. Star then opened the box to reveal some steak and bacon too, all cooked and ready for a certain someone.

"A victory dinner?..."Tucker said, practically drooling at the sight.

"Why didn't you order a salad at least?..."Sam criticized.

Star pointed to the dog, or where he had been before becoming invisible.

"I promised Cujo this stuff if he helped us with Nocturn, which he did do..."She said before smiling.

"Cujo...here you go, little buddy..."Star said in a baby-talk voice, as she presented the meal that she promised to the little ghost pup.

The ghost puppy suddenly became visible and ran excitedly before jumping into the box, eating all the meat inside.

"Arf, Arf!..."He barked happily as he kept eating.

Tucker pouted at all the meat the ghost puppy was eating before he could get any while Star lightly rubbed the dog's belly.

"You're such a good boy, aren't you?..."Star cooed at him, while the puppy laid on his back with a full belly and an adorably tired expression on his face.

Cujo laid there, happy to have eaten so much and seems calmer now, almost about to drift into sleep.

"Aww... I was hoping for at least a slice of bacon..." Tucker groaned.

"I got some tofu soy crisps at home..." Sam suggested.

"Thanks, but I want something that actually tastes like people food..." Tucker said, earning a glare form her.

"How about a knuckle sandwich then?..." Sam grumbled angrily.

Danny ignored this as he then used the thermos to suck up the happy ghost pup, relieved that was over so quickly.

"At least he'll be asleep for a while..."He said, happy that went quick.

"Well, at least he'll have better dreams…"Tucker snarked before an elbow jab from Sam silenced him.

"Same…"Jazz added. "Though I can't wait for my dream to come true…"She said, thinking about her dream of becoming a Yale Professor...minus the part of Dash, that is.

Everyone nodded in agreement. While it was a trap, no one complained about what they saw in their minds...even if there were some parts that they rather not mention to others.

"Let's just hope they never find out what mine was about..."Sam thought, trying not to blush over what she had dreamed about...or who.

Still, a part of her couldn't help but wonder when she'd finally be able to a face on whoever sent her those love notes.

"Can't wait to get back to mine. I am SO gonna make it as a tech billionaire someday and live the rich bachelor life..."Tucker thought, impatiently waiting to go back to THAT dream, including the part about his "dream girls".

Anyway, Star was still reflecting about the whole thing they experienced tonight, namely WHAT they had to deal with tonight.

"I still can't believe that Nocturn went so far just to redo some stupid plan..."Star said, annoyed by tonight's events.

"I still can't believe all that lovey-dovey stuff you and Danny do whenever we're not around..."Tucker teased.

Danny and Star both blushed at that and glared at the tech geek for his mouth to be seen shut.

"What we do when we're alone is none of your business!..."They both yelled, faces very red.

"Alright! Alright! Sheesh! I was only fooling around, Lovebirds..."Tucker teased again, only to receive a smack from Sam.

"Ow!..."He yelped as he rubbed the back of his head as he glared at her.

"Knock it off, Tucker..."She ordered.

"Yeah, leave them be..."Jazz chided.

As the group calmed down and Tucker gave back his nerves after cowering, the eerie calm of the dark night reminded them of the time and that they had parents who would be worried if they woke up and didn't see them in their rooms.

"I hate to admit this but I think Valerie has the right idea. We should probably get back home before our folks find out were are out WAY passed curfew..."She said, yawning as they all realize how late it must be right now.

"Yeah, we all better head home and get some shut-eye..."Jazz admitted, yawning a bit.

Danny knew that they were right and nodded.

"I'll fly Star home and then I'll head straight home afterwards..."Danny answered.

He soon watched his friends and sister leave, heading home to avoid trouble and to FINALLY get some real sleep.

Leaving Danny and Star alone together too.

The ghost boy and blonde girl gave bashful glances at each other. It had felt like years since they had time like this, even though it has just been a few days due to her grounding. Still, as much as Danny wanted to spend more time with her, he knew that it was best not to dilly-dally.

"Well, I guess it's time that we-..."Danny said as he was about to get ready to leave but was cut-off.

Why? Well, before he could do anything, his girlfriend jumped him with a hug and proceeded to kiss him repeatedly. It was only a few moments till Danny was able to speak again... after he snapped out of his stupor that is.

"Uh, not that I'm complaining but is this really the right time for us to be doing this?.."Danny said, making no effort to stop her.

"Hey, I had to deal with a ghost almost taking over the town and possible losing you to some made up version of me while trapped in dreamland, not to mention also dealing with terrible disguises, seeing other people's dreams...including some unsavory ones which I'll never be able to UN-SEE, a whole army of ghosts and Jazz's lame attempt at naming ghosts. Plus, I'm still technically grounded and won't be able to see outside of school for a few more days. So, I say, let's make out Danny-Boo..."Star said, as a matter of fact.

Danny heard this and simply shrugged his shoulder, since he couldn't argue with her logic, nor did he want to.

"You do make a good point, Starlight. Okay, a few minutes but then we have to get back..."He said, allowing it as they went back to kissing, enjoying the feeling of his lips up against hers.

Even though they'd have to wait a while till next time, that was comparable to an eternity for these young lovebirds. They two held each other tightly, not wanting the moment to end as they play tonsil hockey.

They pulled away for a moment and gazed lovingly in each other's eyes, enjoying their embrace.

"I really am glad to have you back, Danny-Boo. It's so wonderful to have the real you here..."Star said, happy that her beloved boyfriend was back and in her arms.

"I really love having the real you in my arms, Starlight..."He said, as he planted another kiss on his beautiful girlfriend, not wanting this moment to end.

Both happy that neither are trapped in dreams anymore and that they are together, just as they should be.

Later

After Star and Danny spent about five minutes of making out, both blissful as they parted for a moment. Star, however, still wanted one more kiss and did so, enjoying every second of this act of love between them as she held him in her arms.

"So worth it for everything that happened today..."Star said, happy that they could spend time like this, despite the circumstances.

Danny chuckled.

"Are you sure?..."He said, wiggling his eyebrows.

Star giggled and playfully pushed the ghost boy away, leaning in and staring at him slightly hint of mischief. She was sure, but that didn't mean Danny had to know that.

"Hey, wise guy, are you sure?..."She teased, making her boyfriend laugh along with her.

However, Danny realized that it's best to try and get her home and avoid getting into any trouble and possibly extending her punishment.

"We should get going if we want to get you home before your dad wakes up..."Danny said, not wanting to lose track of time.

Star pouted but sighed, knowing he had a point.

"Fine, only to avoid getting grounded..."She said as her boyfriend chuckled.

Despite it all, Star also giggled and felt better just being with him. However, there has been something on her mind all night and she realized that this is as good a time as any to ask.

Despite some reluctance, the blonde girl braced herself for another getting-off-the-chest question.

"So...you were dreaming of marrying me..."Star said, looking really shy right now.

Danny blushed a new shade of red, but he still glanced away, looking nervous right now.

"SHE KNOWS?! I really hoped she had forgotten about that..."He thought, still blushing and turning away from her. "Easy...play it cool, Fenton..."He thought, trying to get himself together.

After a few seconds of contemplation, he looked back at the girl, making her blush as he spoke.

"I wasn't aware that you saw everything in my dreams..."He said, rubbing the back of his head as he continued to blush in embarrassment.

"It was kind of hard to ignore, especially when I hacked into it and spent the entire time trying to pry you away from dream me..."Star said while her boyfriend looked conflicted before finally giving in.

"I...might have...dreamt about it..."He said, forcing out every word like he pushing the limits of his muscles.

Star stared with a red face that was hot enough to be a grill right now. She knew of her boyfriend's feeling for her from all their adventures and dates, but to hear it coming out of his mouth that he was considering marriage was a tremendous load.

"I...see..."Star dragged her voice like a snail.

It was the only thing she could say but her boyfriend took it the wrong way.

"And I take it that you're weirded out by that. I get it, it's a lot to unload on one person. Especially since we haven't even date each other for a whole year yet..."He muttered, looking embarrassed.

Star saw this and knew how he must be feeling right now, having something so private and personal being revealed, especially by the one person they cherish the most. Despite this awkward predicament and her own rush of emotions, she knew what she had to do right now and express her own feelings in return and even the playing field, so to speak.

"Well, I kinda...sort of...had the exact same dream too..."She confessed, not being able to look him in the eye.

Danny seemed surprised to hear that.

"Wait...you mean..."He paused.

"Yeah...I dreamt about marrying you...in a sky diving wedding with Lancer being the priest for some reason and Sam wearing a PINK bridesmaid dress of all things..."Star confessed, looking at her shoes right now.

"We...had the same dream then?..."Danny asked, unable to believe it.

"Looks like it..."Star said, feeling the same way he's feeling right now.

Both teenagers were still blushing deeply and not making eye contact right now, full of embarrassment and brimming red so bright that the two were almost like tomatoes right now.

They felt really little awkward to say the least and they also knew that this was a conversation down the road, when they could talk about such topics. Thinking fast to change the subject, the ghost boy picked up his girlfriend again, much to her pleasant surprise.

"Danny..."Star said, unable to help but giggle a bit.

"We...uh...I should probably get you back home before your dad finds out you're not there, or he might extend your grounding until you graduate..."Danny said.

"Yeah...lets get home…I'd rather wait till the end of the week to go out instead waiting til I'm old enough to vote..."Star said, not arguing with him.

"Then Phantom Airways is pleased to have you aboard…"Danny said, still holding her.

Despite still feeling a little awkward right now, Star giggled at those words, finding this goofy side of him to be charming and adorable.

The ghost boy changed forms and proceeded to fly, carrying her bridal style as they took off. Despite how tired and bruised up they had been all evening, they both felt happy right now, just being together like this.

As they flew to Star's house, they both stop for a moment as they both just realized that there was a full moon out tonight, surrounding by so many stars. They took one last moment to fully savor their brief time together. The couple looked into each other's eyes, very much in love right now.

"You know, I think this is better than my dream..."Danny said, staring at the girl's face.

"Oh, and why is that?..."Star said, leaning in to hear the answer.

"Because I'm holding the real you…"He said, making her smile even more.

"I love you, Danny..."Star whispered, loving every moment of this as she placed her forehead against his.

The two leaned in for a small kiss, savoring the moment after a long night's work.

Both happy to be freed and together and that maybe, just maybe, they can finally get some REAL sleep tonight.
