Chapter 21: Epilogue

The Next Morning

It was now morning in Amity Park and still a school day too.

It was seven in the morning and everyone in Amity Park was getting ready for their day, unaware of the almost successful invasion of Nocturn last night.

Unsurprisingly, Star woke up feeling really tired due to everything that had happened last night and only managing to get roughly 4 hours of sleep and most of it was her falling in and out repeatedly due to the adrenaline still pumping in her.

Anyway, she took forever to straighten out her appearance after waking up and barely ate her breakfast.

She gave her goodbyes, though her dad and Georgia (who were more well rested due to not knowing what had happened and were deep asleep) and were concerned but she just waved it off as just a rough night...which is not a total lie in hindsight.

"I really wish we had defeated Nocturn earlier..."Star thought before yawning, waiting for the effects of the coffee she just drank to kick in as she walked out.

Thankfully, she perked up when she saw her boyfriend was there waiting for her, smiling and happy to see her, despite still having a bit of a bedhead on him.

"Morning, Sunshine..."He said, looking more well rested than she was.

"Morning to you too..."Star said, happy to see him but confused.

"I see you forgot to comb..."She said.

"I figure it wouldn't matter since my hair's naturally spiky..."Danny said, holding her hand.

The couple left and and began talking, namely on how Danny's so alert.

"How are you able to function so well?..."Star asked, curious.

"I usually stay up late ghost hunting anyway. The job has no flexible hours..."Danny said, shrugging.

"I guess having a double life has its upsides..." Star thought as they kept walking together, hand in hand.

They soon ran into the rest of their friends, who had also made it to school. Needless to say, they looked pretty tired too, not surprising since they had about as much sleep as the entire team. Well, except for Sam, who seemed fine.

"Sam, we went to bed at like three in the morning. How is it you look alright?…"Danny asked.

"I am a creature of the night…"Sam said as she stood tall. "While you day-walkers need the sun, the darkness fuels us goths with all the energy we need…"She said in her usual gothic ways.

"You had premium coffee today, didn't you?…"Tucker quipped.

Sam flinched, not expecting her friends to see through her bluff.

"There's a coffee brand called Dark Abyss. It's one of the strongest coffees in the world…"The goth admitted, blushing a bit.

"How much did you take without being spotted?..."Danny asked, curious of how she'll go during the day.

"Maybe a cup, or two... replace "cup" with gallon and replace "or two" with definitely five..."The goth said, eye starting to twitch a bit.

The others rolled their eyes at that and decided to just handle it when it gets to be a problem. They soon went inside the school and notice almost everyone seems well rested.

Just like last time, they had no idea that the events from last night were anything more than just dreams and honestly, they didn't care. Plus, how many would be up during an invasion where everyone was put to sleep, anyway?

"Lucky dogs…"Star muttered, jealous of all the sleep everyone else had.

Her friends shared her sentiments as they nodded as they walked through the school. She rubbed her eyes to stay awake, still a little groggy.

"You gonna be okay?..."Danny asked, worried since she did so much last night.

"I'll be fine. I think I can go a few hours..."Star said, feeling a little better now thanks to the coffee she drank.

"I'll be sure you do..."Danny said.

They went to their lockers together. Star placed her items in it (including a big thermos of coffee that she had brought for emergencies). They then saw that Mr. Lancer was walking past them, looking well rested.

"Morning, students. Try not to get detention..."The bald teacher nagged and continued on.

Star saw him and frowned, while he did keep his end of their "deal" to avoid getting sued, he was still pretty strict and obnoxious. Then she recalled something from his dream last night and decided to use that against him.

"Payback..."Star thought mischievously, unable to help herself.

She went to him and patted him in the shoulder, getting his attention.

"Good morning, Mr. Lancer..."Star said, making the teacher flinch.

"Oh, uh...good morning, Ms. Strong...just making my rounds before class..."He said, hoping that she knew that he didn't forget what her father could do and wouldn't be tempted to play favorites in favor of sports due to her threat.

Star just smirked and nodded in faux-innocence, unable to resist what she is about to do.

"Of course... don't want to risk your job getting DOOMED..." She said with a smirk.

Lancer was about to sip his coffee, choking on it slightly.

"W-What'd you s- I mean... yes..." He said nervously, wondering why she emphasized that word.

"Well, game on..."Star said, making him flinch again.

"I...uh... yes..."He said, sweating a bit now and wondering what she is doing.

Star just continued, having fun with this.

"Right on. I'm glad you're making sure we get the seven keys of our intelligence as we go through school again…"She said, her voice was laced with hints of sarcasm and mischief.

Everyone watched as Lancer jumped back a bit with a shocked face, almost as if he had his darkest secret revealed before he tried to calm down.

"I see…"Lancer responded slowly.

He cleared his throat as he tried to act normal, while worried if she knew something or not. Star knew that he was trying hard not to squirm and was laughing on the inside.

It wouldn't have worked better if she planned to bring it up. So, she kept using game related terms to push his buttons and see how he responds.

"Well, best get your power up for the day..."She said, showing off a faux innocent smile on her face. "See you, in class..."She said, watching the teacher kept sweating.

"Uh, have a good day..."He said, still looking nervous.

Star walked away, leaving the teacher lost and wondering if anyone else could figure it out. The blonde girl laughed to herself at his humiliation. She'll have to try and do this again at some point, especially if he needs a reminder to stay out of trouble as he did his job.

"Immature, I know but way too fun not to try..."She thought before rejoining her boyfriend and friends.

"What was that about?..."Danny asked with a raised eyebrow.

"Oh, I'll tell you later..."Star said, still giggling.

Now Danny is really curious and wondered what was going on.

"Come on, Star, tell me. Please?…"Danny begged.

"Nope…"Star said as she was now getting a kick out of her boyfriend's begging. She wondered if she could use this.

However, something caught their attention when a boy suddenly screamed, pointing down the hall as he ran.

"Aaaaah! Zombies! My nightmare came true!…"The student screamed as he ran away.

"What was that about?!..."Danny asked, confused and wondering if he'll have to go ghost.

Good news, it didn't need to escalate to that. Bad news, they ended up running into two of their least favorite people in the world.

Paulina and Colette.

"Ugh, just the thing I never wanted to see..."Star thought, her mood soured already.

But to her surprise, the popular girls looked more like zombies today as they hobbled over, both looking like life was sucked out of them.

They saw that the two popular girls weren't looking so hot right now. They both looked really tired, with bags under their eyes and their hair was slightly unkempt and done poorly. It seemed neither one of them noticed how horrendous they looked right now.

Star giggled, taking a few pictures on her phone for prosperity.

"This is DEFINITELY the best they've ever looked..."She said, grinning at the photos.

The two mean girls saw her and glared at her, but were too tired to do anything. Still, it didn't stop them from TRYING to bicker though.

"As soon as I am more alert, Ester... I'l-..."Colette tried but was cut off by her step-sister who waved her hand in her face.

"Estelle, you call me Estelle even though you know I like to be called Star..."The blonde girl said, pointing out how unalert she was right now.

"Whatever..." Colette muttered, too tired to fight.

"I don't have time for you today... wait... what is today?..." Paulina asked, too tired to even look at her phone.

"It's look like the undead day..." Sam snarked, angering Paulina even more.

"Watch it... if it weren't for that nightmare where my Ghost Boy left me, I'd... do something..." Paulina asked, but yawned, eyes barely able to open.

"Don't say nightmare... that horrid image still haunts me..." Colette grumbled.

Star knew what image she is talking about...a certain pic from Danny's dream that had been VERY useful in shattering her step-sister's nightmare of a dream. The same one that she already made Tucker delete under the threat of bodily harm

Paulina, however, glared at her and pointed at her face, sending a glare at the fake redhead.

"Don't tell me what ta doo..." Paulina went, slurring a bit.

Colette ignored her as she kept thinking bad to her nightmare and the awful morning she had due to a bad night's rest and also some missing property of hers, one that she could've sworn she had in her arms last night.

"Even worse... I lost my doll..." Colette pouted, having failed to find it in a place she'd never look and likely never will.

Star did her best to hide her smirk from her previous actions.

"Of course she didn't find it..."Star thought mischievously while her boyfriend seemed confused.

"Doll?..." Danny asked, almost afraid to ask.

"Later..." Star whispered to him, not wanting to talk about it right now.

Her step-sister and ex-friend then tried to go about their usual antics, which includes one of them trying to flirt with an uninterested boy.

"Bonjour, Danny..."Colette tried flirting with Danny but the ghost boy just brushed it off.

"I think you have even less chances of succeeding than usual..."Danny snarked, upsetting her but she was too tired to try again.

"Too tired...perhaps not today, Mon Amore. Maybe tomorrow..."She muttered, looking ready to fall sleep.

"Will you please just shut your mouth already?!..."Paulina snapped, really wishing she could get some beauty rest right now.

Colette glared at her.

"You first, imbécile!..."She snapped back, just as angry and tired as she is.

The two spoiled brats walked away, still upset about their "nightmares". Star rolled her eyes but was amused at her handiwork.

"Okay, messing with them was soooo worth it..."Star commented.

"I'm guessing that was your doing?..."Danny asked, chuckling.

"Second favorite part of the night, they've never looked better..."Star said, beaming with pride.

"You said it..."Sam said, still annoyed by them.

The bell soon rang and the heroes realized that they had to get to homeroom before risking detention again. They all left, ignoring their own lack of sleep and TRYING to stay awake and alert during class.

Later

It was lunch time and the heroes were taking a break.

Danny and the others were still a little tired and needed something sugary in order to avoid falling during class all together. Thankfully, both Paulina and Colette weren't so lucky and ended up getting detention from Lancer for falling asleep in class.

"That's enough to be worth coming today..."Star thought, pleased as she waited for her man to come back.

You see, Danny left to go deal with the Box Ghost, who wasted no time in pestering him and Tucker left to go get some more sugary snacks from the vending machine to keep himself up.

Sam and Star were alone now, eating as they waited for the boys. They both had some extra coffee right now and were feeling a little better, especially better compared to Colette and Paulina.

"So, how long until Danny captures the Bo Ghost this time around?..."Star asked.

"It's the Box Ghost, so not too long, even with a lack of sleep..."Sam answered, thinking that even she and Tucker can take on that lame ghost together, even with just a couple of hours of sleep.

However, since the two girls were alone now and it would take a few minutes before Danny got back, Star recalled another thing that happened last night...such as something she had seen in the goth girl's dream.

Or rather...someone.

"So…"Star dragged the word as she leaned into Sam.

The goth girl would normally push back, but the glint in the blonde girl's eyes were intimidating, reasoning that this was unavoidable.

"What do you want?…"Sam sighed in defeat. She hunched down, bracing for the worse.

"You secret admirer…any hints on who it is?…"Star almost squeed the words as she got out a notepad.

Sam grabbed it, tossing it aside but it still left the question in the air. Especially since the blonde girl clearly still wanted to know and wasn't going to give up on this.

Sam groaned.

She had hoped that the other girl would have forgotten about that detail by now, but it seemed the universe didn't want to keep it a secret.

"Why couldn't I have dreamt of my parents working day-jobs like regular parents?!..."Sam thought but Star kept grinning.

It was clear that she wasn't going to let this go, so the goth girl just gave in, since even with all the coffee she drank, she didn't have the energy in her to prolong this discussion.

"Look, I don't even know who he is and I am in no rush to find out..."Sam said but Star didn't buy it.

"Come on, Sam. I know that's not true...especially if what I saw in your dream is any indication..."Star said and the goth frowned.

"Hey, keep whatever you think you saw in my head to yourself, so don't even think of telling Danny, Tucker or Jazz about that..."Sam warned, being defensive.

"Unlike you, I don't have the sudden urge to share every last detail about my dreams and feelings. So, don't you dare speak of this to anyone or else our truce is going back to square one..."She said seriously before taking another sip of her EXTRA dark coffee.

"She can be so dramatic..."Star thought as the goth kept speaking.

"Plus, I don't need some guy's interest to validate me…."Sam said as she crossed her arms. "I'm a strong, independent woman who can handle things…"She insisted.

Star rolled her eyes and scoffed. She noticed the dark haired girl was scowling at her, but was nonchalant as she retorted.

"In case you've forgotten, I basically started a revolution against Nocturn's almost reign. So, I can handle myself and I'm independent, but the way Danny looks at me like I'm the best makes me happy..." Star leaned in as Sam dropped her scowl. "And I think it's time someone does the same for you…"She said.

Hearing that got Sam thinking. However, she just frowned and stuck with her own principles, even if it's over a matter like this one.

"I already told you...as flattering as this is and I'll admit that a part of me that's kind of liking the attention, I don't need some mystery guy who I don't even know sending me a bunch of flowers and admittedly good poetry to know that I'm special..."Sam said, being stubborn.

Star rolled her eyes and sighed.

"Why is she trying so hard to fight it? It's clear that she totally wants to know who this guy is..."She thought, annoyed by her refusing to admit that she might actually like having a secret admirer more than she's says she does.

Before she could say anything else, That's when Danny and Tucker returned. Star realized that this is probably better to continue this some other time, especially since the goth girl is being stubborn again.

Star then left to go have lunch with her boyfriend, both smiling as they walked hand in hand together again.

Outside

Danny and Star were now having lunch together.

Since Star is still grounded for a few more days, they tried to spend as much time as they possibly can during school hours to make up for the lack of dates, for now.

Anyway, they were sitting under the same tree they usually ate under during lunch and they were enjoying having this moment together. Especially since their usual annoyances were too tired to pester them right now.

Right now, they had finished feeding each other their respective lunches and were just talking about what happened at school in general.

"I still can't believe both Paulina and Colette just fell asleep in class like that..."Danny said, laughing.

Star laughed too.

"I still can't believe that they did that in gym class, especially when Ms. Tesslaff was telling everyone to run laps. Did you see the look on their faces when she went ballistic on them?..."Star said, still amused by watching her two lease favorite people get chewed out by their gym teacher like that.

"Hilarious..."Danny laughed before he got curious.

"So...are you ever gonna tell me exactly what you did to get them so sleep-deprived like that?..."He asked, wondering what she did that made them unable to get much sleep and loving like the living dead most of the day.

Star frowned as she recalled the kind of dreams they had and shuddered.

"Let's save that for a better day. 'Kay?..."Star said, making it clear that she doesn't want to talk about it right now.

Danny noticed her expression and could guess that what she saw in their dreams was probably something really disturbing and nauseating to even think about, let alone remember.

"It was that horrifying, wasn't it?..."He guessed.

"That's putting it mildly..."Star said. "Almost as bad as what I saw in Colette's room when she woke up..."She thought, just glad that doll is safe from her now.

Danny was still curious about it but shrugged. He knew this would be for another time. Besides, he was just glad Colette was leaving him alone for once.

The ghost boy smiled, content with the world, as he laid back with his beloved girlfriend right next to him. They both smiled and just enjoyed their time together...until something came to Star's mind that they still technically have yet to properly talk about.

Namely their OWN dreams from last night.

"So...about that dream we both had about each other that involved us saying our vows to each other...while having the ceremony in the sky?..."Star asked, reminding him of the rather personal dream they both had last night.

Danny blushed and sat up straight, staring at his girlfriend. He knew that she had the same dream too but that just made things even more awkward and embarrassing for them.

"I was kinda hoping she'd forget about that..."He thought.

"Danny?..."Star said, snapping him out of it.

"Uh, what?..."He asked and felt stupid, knowing what she wants to talk about right now.

"The dream? The Sky-diving wedding?..."Star repeated, before getting to the point.

"Do you want to talk about the fact that we shared the exact same dream last night? Or that it was that you wanted to see me in a white dress made for only one special event?..."Star asked, staring into his blue eyes.

At first, Danny tried to think of a way out of the discussion. The dream, while shared, was still personal, and he wasn't sure if they were ready to discuss that. But after some insistence from Star (who also gave him an adorable puppy dog pout on top of that), he sighed in defeat, knowing that this isn't gonna be an easy conversation but they had to talk about this.

"Star, being with you is amazing and while I'm not sure about marriage right now, I like how things are..."He said, holding the girl's hands.

"And I want to keep it like that. I just want us to enjoy this wonderful time that we have with each other for as long as possible, just the two of us, going on dates and kicking ghost butt..."He said, before pausing once he realized what he just said.

"Geez, I'm starting to sound like Dad..."He thought before continuing.

"You know that I love you and now though, I just want to be with you and have fun together, whenever. Maybe in the future...we can see what happens..."He said, trying his best to word it out as gently as possible.

Star looked at their interlocked hands, rubbing her fingers against the boy's. She could tell he was serious from his tone.

While she can't deny that the thought is alluring and has crossed her mind, she also knew that talking about weddings might be too soon for them right now, especially since they are still in high school.

Still, the blonde girl smiled and nodded.

"You know what...that sounds good to me..."Star said as she kissed him on the cheek. "I mean, we're WAY too young for that, and my dad would freak out if he found out what we are talking about right now. Right now, I want to be happy with you too and I love how things are between is. Maybe, in the future, we can bring it up. But right now, I think I'm better off with my super cool boyfriend..."She said sweetly.

Danny smiled, ignoring the blush on his face.

"Now, this feels like a dream come true..."He said, chuckling.

The two laid back against the tree as the ghost boy nuzzled his head over Star's. Life was too perfect to think about the future now.

Except...maybe one little detail to look over...such as thinking about what they might do in a few days, when she is officially free from her grounding.

"So...when I'm officially un-grounded, you wanna go somewhere special to celebrate?..."Star asked, closing in on the ghost boy as she leaned up.

"Sure, but let's keep things casual. Don't wanna dream too high..."Danny chuckled, taking the girl in his arms as he hugged her. "Or have something mistaken leading to you getting re-grounded..."He joked, making her laugh again.

"Don't worry, that's not gonna happen..."She said, giggling before she got romantic with him again.

"Plus, I have all my dreams right here..."She said, meaning it.

Danny and Star looked into each other's eyes again, moving their heads towards each other slowly.

They were mere centimeters from locking lips with one another before pausing for a moment, staring into each other's eyes yet again and spoke the first thing that came into both their minds.

"I love you~..."They both said as the same time, loving the moment they had together.

Danny and Star kissed tenderly as held on to one another tightly, not wanting nor planning to let each other go any time soon.

Sadly, all good things must come to an end since the bell rang, signalling the end of lunch time. The young couple soon left together towards their next class, walking hand in hand as they did so.

Both were ready to deal with whatever obstacles that try and get in their way, even every teenage drama that came with highschool. Knowing that no matter what happens, they love each other no and forever and no one can change that, especially not annoying rivals or ghostly megalomaniacs.

And that was only the beginning of what could happen, but they all paled to the love the teens had for each other.

After all, dreams were meant to come true.
