The Legend of Zelda: Skyrim - Chapter 24: Geirmund's Hall (and Backtracking)

Needed to actually start this quest sooner or later…

Note that chapter uploads do not have a set schedule but I am at least hoping for 1-2 per month

Shade merely guided Link through the passageways of Shrouded Hearth Barrow until they reached the chamber where Shade had very briefly fought Wyndelius. The corpse was still there, but Shade walked past it and felt for a secret door up against a wall.

"What are we here for besides the Word Wall?" Link asked as he came up beside his ancestor and waited for Shade to open the secret door.

"Anything that I might have missed or looked over, which I believe is very little, as I was quite through." Shade replied as he managed to find a hidden latch that was connected to the pull chain on the other side. He activated the pull chain, then stepped back as the secret door opened.

"Why are we going this way instead of through the dungeon?"

"Because to me, this way is faster. You wanted to get to this 'Word Wall' first, did you?" Shade looked back at Link, who nodded, then motioned for the Hylian to follow him down the newly revealed passageway.

As Shade vanished into said passageway, Link briefly looked around, then followed his ancestor further into the dungeon…

…The two found themselves in a partially collapsed tunnel. Further down this tunnel was another door and pull chain, which Shade activated. This revealed a small circular room, and before them, a stone bridge.

The two crossed the bridge, then, to Link's left, he almost immediately heard the tell-tale sign of a Word Wall - chanting.

The Hylian walked over to the Word Wall, then placed a hand on the cold stone to steady himself as his vision blurred. Knowledge filled his mind, his vision returned, and the chanting slowly faded.

Kaan. Thanks to the soul of the dragon he had slain at Whiterun, he knew now that he had the ability to have animals be calmed in his presence and not attack him for a limited time. 'Now this could potentially prove to be very useful.' Link stepped away from the wall and walked back to where Shads was.

After Link had claimed the Word of Power, Shade pointed out an alcove across a collapsed bridge that he hadn't been able to reach on his previous visit.

Link gazed at the sight before him and grinned, then walked to the edge of the broken bridge, and used Whirlwind Sprint. He flew across the gap and landed on the other side, where he discovered only a petty soul gem and a steel greatsword. He took both items anyway, then waited for his mind to prepare for another Shout usage before he used Whirlwind Sprint again to get back to Shade.

Once the two were reunited, Shade then led Link through the dungeon in reverse. Yet, as they traveled through the barrow, they discovered something very interesting - the Draugr that they walked past began to wordlessly follow them.

"That's not normal." Link commented as he looked back at the silent shuffling undead.

"Perhaps not, let us continue and see what happens." Shade said as he led Link and the following multitude of Draugr towards the barrow's exit.

Once they reached Wyndelius' chamber, the Draugr that had been following the two all kneeled at once before Shade.

"How peculiar. Perhaps… No, that can't be it."

"Do you know why they're doing this?" Link asked his ancestor.

"In theory, when I killed the armored undead in the final room, perhaps ownership of this tomb was… transferred to me." Shade concluded as he saw a few undead nodding towards him.

"…So what does that mean?"

"I believe they are expecting their next orders… Let me think…" After some thought, Shade decided to order the undead to guard the tomb and surrounding area for as long as they were able, and to occasionally check up on Ivarstead.

"For your new orders, I command all of you to guard this tomb as long as your spirits remain in your bodies. Furthermore, I implore you to venture forth from these burial chambers and survey the surrounding area, as well as protect the village nearby."

All of the Draugr agreed to this as they stood from kneeling, and Link and Shade were free to leave Shrouded Hearth.

"Now, I'm going to warn you, that dungeon was full of items." Shade told Link. The two were sitting at an empty table in the corner of the Vilemyr Inn, having walked from Shrouded Hearth Barrow.

Link nodded. "Let's get to it, then."

Shade reached into his magically enchanted bag at his side, and first took out forty gold coins. "What do you call these?"

"Septims." Link confirmed.

"Septims…" Shade closely inspected one of the cold golden coins. "I see." He then put the coins to the side, then placed a red potion, a small purple gem, and a book on the table.

Link inspected all three items. "This is a minor healing potion, this is a petty soul gem, and this…" He skimmed the book. "'Before the Ages of Man…Eh, I'll keep it for later reading, seems interesting."

"Very well." Shade then placed a ruby, sapphire, iron gauntlets, iron boots, a small piece of a mint plant, another red potion, two more books, and the potion Shade had gotten earlier from Wyndelius.

"The Gold Ribbon of Merit and The Buying Game. I already have these, so you can keep them. I can sell the armor pieces…" Link took the gems, then picked up the red potion. "…A major healing potion. Good, I'll always need more of these." He then looked at the strange potion. "What's that?"

"It's called the Philter of the Phantom. Wyndelius used it to appear like a ghost. Perhaps it'll be useful to you."

Link nodded, then reached out and picked up the mint. "…Haven't done much with alchemy… Maybe I should."

"In the lower section, I found a lot. We'll go over everything slowly, so it's not all over the place." Shade stated. Once Link had made two clear piles on what he wanted to sell, and what he wanted to keep - the iron gauntlets were by themselves, and everything else was close by - the elderly undead placed some more items on the table.

There was a Sapphire dragon claw, an iron helmet, a broken soul gem, an Oakflesh tome, a greater soul gem, and a lot of Septims. However, the last thing that Shade took out of the bag had Link's full attention.

"Where did you get that?" It was the Slingshot.

"I found it in a chest." Shade replied as he handed over what to most people, was a mere child's toy, but to Link, the wooden thing had saved his life a few times.

Link quickly counted up the Septims - two hundred in total - before he set the iron helmet in the 'to sell' pile. He then picked up the tome and opened it.

Shade watched in silent awe as the book crumbed to dust in the Hylian's hands. "What happened?"

"I learned a new spell. It's called Oakflesh."

"What does it do?"

"Good question, but I shouldn't test it here, though." Link placed the Septims together into a larger pile, then placed the two soul gems in his bag. He then picked up the dragon claw and inspected it, then set it on the table to his right. He once again picked up the slingshot, seeming to be lost in memories.

Link then raised the object slightly, then used a free hand to lightly pull back on the tensed band. "…Still seems to function as it did." He put the Slingshot in his bag, then, after thinking, put the Septims in the bag as well.

Shade took that as to take out the next set of items. There were some Septims, a strange curved sword, another soul gem, a healing potion, and a steel mace.

"Hmmm…" Link picked up the curved sword first. "Interesting."

A nearby inn patron stated that the sword was of "Redguard make", which made Link decide to keep it. Because it simply looked cool.

There were forty Septims, the soul gem was of petty status, the healing potion was entirely normal. Link put the mace in the 'to sell pile' and put the other items in the bag.

Shade placed more items on the table once it was relatively cleared.

There was another petty soul gem, more Septims - which numbered fifty - and iron gauntlets. There was a sword, but Link had never seen anything like it before. When he picked it up, it felt almost lightweight. It was darkened, and curved slightly with jagged edges. "Wonder what this is…"

Link set aside the strange sword in the 'to keep' pile, put the septims and soul gem in his bag, then put the gauntlets in the 'to sell' pile.

Shade decided to place more items on the table. There was a waraxe, a dagger, a soul gem, another potion, and ten coins.

"…Let's see… steel dagger, I can sell that; Orc waraxe… Do I sell the one I have and keep this one… Yeah sure. Ten Septims, a normal soul gem and… a potion of the knight." Link put the items in the bag, and to keep pile. He then got out the iron waraxe, and replaced it with the Orc one. He then put the iron waraxe and the steel dagger in the 'to sell' pile.

The next pile consisted of a golden ingot, an iron bow, a minor potion of stamina, and a strange wooden shield that had rusted spikes embedded in it. "Wonder what this is…"

The person behind the counter seemed to notice the shield, and stepped out from behind the counter and wandered up to the table. "Is that what I think it is? The Targe of the Blooded? How did it end up in Shrouded Hearth? I thought it was in Aftand to the far north!"

"What is Aftand?"

"It's a massive complicated mess of a Dwemer ruin. Advanced civilization." The man explained. "Oh, I never gave my name, I'm Wilhelm, I'm the owner of Vilemyr inn. If you want to sell anything to me, perhaps I may buy some things." The Nord walked back to the counter, while Shade placed the last of the items on the table.

The rest of the items were the following: four hundred Septims, an iron axe, iron helmet, steel leggings, orc sword and chestplate, a steel warhammer, thirty iron arrows, and four potions - a minor potion of healing and three majors ones, which were of healing, magicka, and stamina.

Link spent some time adding up the totals to everything, then he checked his items to make sure he wasn't going to sell anything that he didn't want to sell - he was good there - and then put the three armor pieces and three weapons into the 'to sell' pile.

He counted the Septims first, then his soul gems, lock picks, and arrows, and then the potions.

Before counting the Septims he had gotten from Shade, Link knew he had 13360 Septims. Link determined he had received 740 from Shade. He counted the total, and ended up with a new total of 14,100 Septims.

For soul gems, arrows and lockpicks; he had nine petty, three normal, one greater, one broken, and three empty gems, one hundred and fifty-eight Iron Arrows, twenty five ancient arrows, and seventeen lockpicks.

For potions, he now had one weak healing potion, a draught of the healer, four Major healing, four major Magicka, three major Stamina, eighteen minor healing, a potion of resist magic, potion of invisibility, a draught of the knight, a major potion of strength, a damage health poison, a bottle of regular poison, two minor stamina, four minor Magicka, two potions of the knight, a paralysis potion, and two potions of healing. And he had that one potion, what was the name… Right, the Philter of the Phantom.

Link then got up from the table and began to carry what was in the 'to sell' pile across the inn floor over to the counter, where Wilhelm was waiting.

"All done? Let's see here… You want to sell me…" Wilhelm took out a quill and parchment and wrote each item down as Link set it on the counter. "For weapons… a steel dagger, iron axe, iron bow, iron waraxe, orc sword, steel greatsword, steel warhammer, steel mace. For armor… two iron helmets, steel leggings, orc chestplate, iron boots, and two iron gauntlets." Wilhelm paused to get his breath back. "Give me a few moments to get the total…"

"For the weapons… 75 for the orc sword, steel mace is 65, steel greatsword is 90, steel warhammer is 110, steel dagger is 18, the bow is actually an Orcish bow, not sure why it has iron on it - 150, iron waraxe is 30, iron axe - technically also a waraxe so 30… Give me a moment… 568."

Wilhelm handed Link the Septims, which the Hylian pocketed, then continued. "As for the armor… steel leggings are 625, orcish chest plate is-" The Nord stared at something on the counter. "…One thousand. … The iron boots are 25, the two iron helmets are 120, and the two iron gauntlets are 250. So… Give me a moment… 2,020." Wilhelm handed over the Septims. "Turns out you'll get rich if you just wander into dungeons."

"…Seems to be that way." Link thanked the Nord and then walked back over to Shade.

Link reached out and picked up the helmet, then put it on. It was somewhat hard to convey emotions now that his entire face was obscured save for his eyes, but he stepped over to Shade and hugged him. "I'm really glad you're here."

Shade looked down, then returned the hug. "As am I. Let me walk you out."

The two separated, and as they began to walk towards the door, they heard voices from a corner of the room.

"Did you hear about Geirmund's Hall?" A Nord asked the lone Orc at a table the two were sitting at.

The Orc nodded. "Yeah. Heard it's haunted by a spirit."

"Did you also know one of the Gauldursons is rumored to be there?"

"No. Is it true?" The Orc asked.

"Beats me." The Nord threw back the contents of the mug he was holding and slammed it on the wooden table. "If it is true, I wonder why no one has gone in there yet."

Link thought back to the book he had read in Dragonsreach. He figured now would be a good time to see if the "Lost Legend" was really true.

He waited until Shade had walked him out of the inn before he spoke. "I think we should go check out the barrow-"

Shade wasn't there anymore. It seemed he had been de-summoned.

"…Or I can do it by myself…"

Upon entering, Link noted there were many fungi growing in the cave, including fourteen bleeding crowns, nineteen fly amanita, and five white caps. Two skeevers suddenly launched themselves as Link as he descended the dirt path after collecting all of the plants for later alchemy shenanigans.

The Hylian merely kicked both rodents to either side of him as he continued walking. To the west of the rather large hole in the ground, Link found a dead adventurer. A copy of Lost Legends was resting nearby on a rock.

Link then approached and looked down into the dirt hole, and saw he was standing above a pool of water. There seemed to be items down there. It was the way forward.

He hesitated, not sure of how to reach the water, before he gradually realized he had to jump.

'Hope this works.' Link took a step back, then ran forward and kicked off the ground, ending up over the sinkhole… and then he fell.

He landed with a splash into the pool and sank down due to his armor. As soon as he got his bearings, Link swam upwards and breached the water's surface.

He then looked down. There seemed to be some sort of blue potion at the sandy bottom. 'Could be useful.' Link stopped treading water and let his armor take him to the bottom of the pool, where he grabbed the potion, then swam back up.

Link then realized what the potion was. '…A water breathing potion?' He slowly grinned to himself, and before his better judgement could tell him no, he unsealed the bottle and drank its contents.

Link felt the familiar sense of magic from the potion almost immediately. He could still breathe above water, so he quickly submerged himself…

This was very similar to the Zora Armor, Link determined as he slowly got used to breathing underwater. Now, at least, he could get the rest of the items safely.

There was an urn, which was empty, and a short dead-end passage which contained a burial urn, which had twenty Septims, and at the end, an unlocked chest which held a steel sword, a medium coin purse, which contained one hundred Septims, and an empty soul gem.

Link grabbed all of the items, then expertly swam the short distance to the main pool and neared the surface.

But unfortunately, as he breathed in water and somehow converted it to air, he suddenly breathed in pure water.

The Hylian's eyes widened and he breached the surface of the underground pool, then swam over to the shore before he removed his helmet and dropped it beside him as he struggled to simply breathe.

His lungs and throat hurt as he lay there half in the water, half on rubble as he coughed up water.

'Could have been a lot worse.' Link thought as he raised his gaze to…

…There was the iron door he had seen up above to the west, with wooden stairs leading up to it out of the water. Opposite, among some rubble, was a burial urn and a large coin purse.

'Okay. At least there's no monsters here.' Link let his head drop to the cold stone and closed his eyes, merely focused on getting his breath back.

After what felt like a few minutes, Link had recovered enough to retrieve his helmet and get up. He then checked the burial urn, which was empty, and grabbed the coin purse - which contained fifty Septims - before he looked up at the iron doors.

Two frostbite spiders greeted Link once he walked up the stairs and opened the iron doors.

The two spiders gazed at him for a second, before they skittered forward in attacking positions, their fangs glistening with poison.

Link drew Dawnbreaker and braced himself with the spiked shield.

The first spider leapt forward, and Link swung his shield arm at the creature, which promptly impaled the thing with the spikes.

The spider writhed around in agony, still trying to impale the Hylian with its fangs as its lifeblood slowly dripped down the spikes and wooden planks of the shield, to the dirt below.

Link kicked the arachnid off the spikes and then stabbed it with Dawnbreaker, putting it out of its misery. He then swung the shield to try to get the blood off, then spun the sword in his hand as he eyed the other spider.

'Never seen a shield like this. I'll have to be careful with it.' Thought Link as the remaining spider hissed, then skittered towards him.

The thing leapt at him, but Link was able to dispatch the spider quite easily with a well timed sword swing.

While Link paused to rest, he checked out the rest of the room. There wasn't much, just a small passage behind a locked door that held an Orcish chestplate, an Elven shield and a major potion of healing. The Hylian unlocked the door with a lockpick, took the items, and moved on.

The passage to the south held a chest on a dresser. Link slowly approached the chest and examined it for traps. Finding none, he then found it was locked, and used one of his lockpicks to unlock the chest.

It only held fifty Septims and a potion of Stamina, but Link took the coins and potion.

Directly next to the dresser was a pressure plate, which triggered some sort of trap judging by the holes in the walls.

Link managed to walk around the pressure place and be continued down the corridor.

He walked down some stairs and ended up in flooded catacombs that held rotating pillars.

There were symbols on the walls, and Link stepped closer to inspect them. They read from left to right: Eagle, Whale, Snake, Whale.

'So it's one of these things.' Link had seen these symbol puzzles before. 'I just have to find the matching pillars and get them in the right order. Seems simple enough.'

In the middle of the room was a table that held some sort of soul gem, which was resting on an obvious pressure plate. Link grabbed the soul gem and retreated, narrowly avoiding being injured by a battering ram in the form of two mammoth tusks and a skull. The Hylian took the potion that was on the table, then examined the rest of the room.

There were a few burial urns, but when checked, all of them were empty. Link walked down the nearby stairs and found a Draugr waiting for him. The creature was stabbed with Dawnbreaker and Link stepped over the resulting ash pile, then stepped up to the pillar and rotated it so that it matched the eagle symbol in the main room.

After turning right down the corridor, he found the second pillar, which was guarded by a Dreadlord. Once the Dreadlord was dealt with, Link stepped up to the pillar and activated it until it was a symbol of a whale.

There was a third pillar behind a table. A Draugr with a sword lied in wait, but Link used Flames to deal with it quickly. He rotated this pillar until the symbol on it was a snake.

The fourth pillar was behind Link and to the left. After quickly dealing with the lone Draugr, Link rotated the pillar so that the symbol on it was that of a whale.

There was a lever on a wall to Link's right. Once he activated it, a door opened to the north. After he checked the area he was in, he entered the doorway and continued onwards.

There was a short tunnel with various plants. It led to an open room with a ramp. There was a walkway above the area that had a Draugr walking around on it, which Link easily dispatched with his bow and arrows. He then checked the area at the base of the ramp.

There was another undead close by, but it hadn't noticed him yet, so Link chose to hit the Draugr with a combination of Sparks and Flames from a somewhat close distance. The Draugr fell to the ground and didn't get up.

There was a well-hidden large coin purse - which held fifty Septims - in the second shelf of the fallen bookshelf at the base of the ramp; only the very top of it showed through the sand. A second hidden large coin purse - which held one hundred Septims - was among some rubble to the southwest. To the west was a sideboard with a Orcish bow and a single arrow on top. To the right was a set of shelves holding four leather strips and a greater potion of stamina. Link took all of the items, then walked up the ramp to more solid ground.

There was a broken bridge on the west side of the room. Link spent a while deciding how he was going to reach the door at the other side of the bridge, before he used Whirlwind Sprint.

Link landed safely, then checked the door for possible traps. There was a tension cable before the door, and he cut it with Dawn. Firebolts shot forth, and the Hylian had to quickly get out of the way. There was a nearby soul gem that when taken, disarmed the trap, and Link was able to see what was behind the door.

There was nothing in the small alcove save for a chest, which was locked. Link knelt before the chest, took out a few lockpicks, and spent some time opening the chest. After breaking two lockpicks trying to find the sweet spot, he managed to open the chest, which held two hundred Septims and a greater potion of health. He took the items, then left the alcove and used Whirlwind Sprint to get back to the main area of the room.

There were three Draugr waiting for him, one adorned in armor with a greatsword, the other two had a bow and mace.

Before the Draugr moved, Link summoned his Frost Atronach. The creature moved immediately, heading for the Draugr with the bow. Once the Deadra reached the undead, it stomped the ground, sending ice shards in all directions. This caused the undead to be impaled with ice, which killed it.

The Frost Atronach then focused on the undead with the greatsword, which left the one with the mace to Link.

The mace wielding undead ran towards the Dragonborn, but Link used Lightning Bolt, then Frostbite on the Draugr. The undead fell to the ground and Link watched on as the Atronach and Draugr fought each other.

Chips of ice flew across the room as the greatsword carved into the Atronach again and again, but eventually the Deadra picked up the undead and slammed it into the ground, killing it instantly. The Frost Atronach then turned to Link, bowed in his direction, then vanished through an Oblivion portal, which then disappeared.

Once the three undead were defeated, Link took the key from the armored undead. He then noticed an epitaph on a nearby table and inspected it.

It was addressed to "Lord Geirmund", who had been an archmage of Windhelm. Geirmund in death had been assigned to guard the outside world from "three traitors and their charm of strife."

To the east of where Geirmund had been was an empty urn, with an unlit brazier in front which contained a steel mace. There was a door to the right, which Link unlocked using the key he had taken from Geirmund.

Once he stepped through the door, there was an enchanting table, which Link ignored. A Skeever leapt at him from the shadows, which Link merely grabbed and threw aside as he checked a nearby set of stairs. There wasn't much, just a potion of invisibility, and an urn, which was empty. Link checked what was on the enchanting table, which was an orcish battleaxe and a bottle filled with poison. On the ground was a normal Soul Gem. Link took these three items, then continued onward.

There were two bookcases, one of which had an iron helmet. Link took the helmet, then picked up a small coin purse - which had ten Septims - before he climbed the stairs.

There was a Draugr waiting for him, which Link stabbed with Dawnbreaker. The undead soon turned into ash from the resulting flames.

There was a sideboard with a Potion of the Knight, a pair of steel boots, and an orcish bow. Link took the items and soon found a raised drawbridge.

There was a lever, but there were also holes in the wall that were pointed in the direction Link was facing. He chose not to activate this lever, and instead looked around the room. The correct lever was hidden in a corner, and when thrown back, one half of the drawbridge lowered.

Link crossed the drawbridge and easily dealt with the lone Draugr that was on the platform. He then activated another lever, which lowered the other half of the drawbridge. Two more Draugr were on the other side, which Link killed with his bow and arrows, two arrows each.

Unfortunately, they fell to rest on pressure plates, which activated sharp swinging axes. Link walked up to the hallway, then carefully timed his steps to avoid being hit by the axes.

There was another Draugr with a staff lying in wait around the corner. Link decided to use the Wabbajack on it, which turned the undead into a lizard.

There was a chain on the wall which deactivated the axes, and a set of stairs. Link walked down the stairs and found a sideboard with a bottle of poison on it. Link took the bottle and then walked around a corner to find himself standing on a ledge.

From the ledge he was standing on, Link saw a very large and mostly empty room, save for a lot of plants and hanging moss that grew everywhere, and a lone sarcophagus in the middle of the room.

Link jumped down from the ledge and began to walk towards the middle of the room. As he neared the sarcophagus, it opened forcefully.

The lid narrowly missed hitting Link as something climbed out of the stone coffin, then faced him.

This was Sigdis Gauldurson.

Link got into a defensive position with sword and shield raised as he waited for the undead to make the first move.

He was surprised when Sigdis teleported across the room, leaving two copies of himself in the undead's wake.

"That's new."

Then the two copies started to cast various spells in his direction.

Link decided to use the new spell he had learned. "Oakflesh." As soon as he said the spell, he was hit by a frost spell directly, but it didn't hurt as much as it should have. Link then looked down at his armor. What skin was visible seemed to have the appearance of oak wood.

'Is this spell a defensive one? Seems pretty useful.' Thought the Hylian as he drew the twin elemental daggers and ran forward, poised to leap up and stab Dawn in one of the copies' chests.

When that happened, Link noticed that Sigdis teleported away and ended up across the room. Another copy of the undead was created.

The Dragonborn then decided to attack Sigdis directly, opting to cast Sparks against the undead. This time, both copies stayed, and Sigdis didn't teleport.

'So don't attack the …illusions. Got it.'

Sigdis then recovered from the attack and prepared to cast some sort of spell.

With quick thinking, Link hid behind the tomb to shield himself from the attack. There were small stones at his feet, and he got an idea.

He took out the slingshot, picked up a stone, positioned it correctly, then risked looking over the tomb as he pulled back on the tensed band.

Sigdis seemed to be waiting for Link to attack, and certainly didn't expect a rock to strike him in the face. The undead growled angrily and started to move towards Link, who waited for the undead to get close before he vaulted over the tomb and swung Dawn at Sigdis, only for him to vanish.

Sigdis seemed to have teleported at the last second, so he retreated a bit as he tried to figure out which undead was real.

He decided to simply just start attacking, and if he hit the real Sigdis and not an illusion, that was good.

A use of Sparks prompted another teleport, and a few spells dodges as Link summoned the Flame Atronach.

The flame woman looked around, then waved at the Hylian before she flew upwards to avoid an ice spell. The Atronach then dove towards one of the three undead with arms outstretched. Unfortunately, this was also an illusion, and Sigdis once again teleported.

'I can just see where he teleports to. Why didn't I think of that earlier.' Link thought as he ran over to who he thought was the real undead and tried to stab Sigdis with Dusk.

The undead was covered in ice where the dagger had struck, and attempted to run Link through with the sword he was holding.

With quick timing, Link backflipped away, managing to somehow kick off the blade as he used the Unrelenting Force Shout on Sigdis.

The undead flew across the room from the Shout, then teleported closer after getting up from where he had hit the wall.

Meanwhile, the Flame Atronach was keeping the two illusions busy by keeping them distracted. They appeared to be chasing her around the room.

She then turned and flamed both illusions, which caused both to vanish and Sigdis to teleport again.

It was at this point the Flame Atronach was summoned back to Oblivion, and Link was once again alone to face the undead.

The Hylian chose to retreat behind the tomb again, and decided to use the slingshot once more after kneeling behind the tomb for cover.

The first attack resulted in another teleport, but the second rock throw was successful. Sigdis charged the tomb while he raised the sword in his skeletal hands.

Link got up from his kneeling position as Sigdis reached him and dodged a spell, then swung the spiked shield and impaled Sigdis in the undead's midsection.

He then stabbed the thing in the chest with Dawnbreaker, watching as the undead caught on fire.

Once Sigdis fell to the ground, Link noticed that the two illusions had vanished. There was something metal and shining on the floor, when Link picked it up, it was some sort of amulet fragment. There was also some sort of bow as well as a writ of sealing. Link decided to read it - it was basically a sealing of Sigdis, to make sure he never left the barrow. When the bow was inspected, words were engraved into the wood - Gauldur Blackbow.

There was a tunnel behind the tomb, which led to a room filled with items and a large chest. There was a plate on a table which held three pearls, one smaller than the other two. Link took these, then turned to the shelves. On the shelves were an iron helmet, steel plated gauntlets, a greater potion of magicka, a greater soul gem, an elven shield, and a book.

Link took all of the items, and then inspected the book, which was called Words and Philosophy. When he skimmed through it, he felt as if he had gained some knowledge of using various two handed weapons.

The chest was unlocked, and held the contents of five hundred Septims, two Greater Soul Gems, and an Orcish greatsword. Link took everything from the chest, then looked around the room.

There was a passage to the south, which when taken, led to a lever. Link activated the lever, which raised a hidden door that led to the first room of the barrow. The Hylian briefly looked around before he left Gerimund's Hall, intending to finally make his way to Falkreath.
