Prologue:
It was the start of dusk, about to befall a particularly dark night. Especially dark due to the events that are about to occur. Currently in the believed to be abandoned, hidden town of Hujiang, located in the Taihua Mountains in the norther. It used to be an outlaw settlement entirely populated by daofei. But now, it's entirely populated by complete scum. At the moment, a small group of outlaws are now planning their next act. The place was in ruins, with no habitable spots left, so they had to improvise.
"This place is dead, we must find a new settlement!" One of the outlaws complained.
"And how are we going to do that? It was hard enough to find this place." Another one argued.
"Whatever we do, it has to be quick." Another one pointed out. "We're almost out of supplies and is way too cold in here."
"Hey!" Suddenly, their attention was called by a different outlaw, who was calling them. "We have a problem." He informed them before signalling for them to follow him.
The group of outlaws occupying that settlement was fairly large and their presence on that particular location wasn't really a secret. They were expecting some attack of sorts, but to their surprise.
"What happened to him?" The outlaws were lead towards a dead body of one of them, who they spoke to a few minutes ago. Most of the outlaws taking refuge in the town approached to see what was going on.
"He was definitely killed by a knife."
"No, it was obviously an arrow."
"It was a stiletto that killed him, you imbeciles."
They all started to argue to one another about different reasons to how that man was killed, until one of them called their attention. "Wait, who's that?!" Yelled one of the outlaws while pointing towards the rooftop of one of the buildings.
After he did, all the outlaws standing looked at the direction that he was pointing. Only to sight a strange figure on the top of the ruined building, though they can't see it properly due to the darkness. But that didn't stop one of the outlaws to try to confront it. "Hey, was it you?" He was referring to the one that killed the other outlaw.
The figure shrouded by the dark didn't answer or even made a sound.
The outlaw then pointed his finger at him. "You're silence is answer enough!" He yelled at him. "When I get my hands on you, I'm gonn-" Before the outlaw could finish with his threat, something very sharp was wrapped around his arm. "AAAAAHHHHHH!" His first reaction was to scream in pain.
The other outlaws saw that and prepared for battle.
Suddenly, the figure descended from the top of the building and used the momentum to toss the outlaw at the group, which caused them to stumble back into the ground due the impact.
They all quickly stood up in hurry in order to fight. When they did, they managed to take a good look at the figure. It was a boy with light sun-tanned skin, bright gray eyes and long and shaggy deep brown hair. He was wearing a strange outfit with his top being something you'll see someone from the fire nation wear, but the bottom resembled an outfit from the water nation. Though what stood out the most about his appearance was his left arm, which was wrapped with two things. First, it was bandages that were completely wrapped around his arm, but what really called attention, was what was on top the bandages. A strange looking chain, that had very sharp looking edges on both sides of it, which was what he used to toss the outlaw at them. He also had a sword on his lower back.
"I will only ask once," The boy spoke in a deep voice. "Hand it over everything you robbed, or end up like him." He informed as he pointed towards the corpse.
The Outlaws however, only gave him really angry glares as they prepared to attack him.
"As you wish." The boy told them before he started to move the chain that was wrapped around his arm.
The Outlaws decided to charge at him but unknowingly to them, however, he was preparing to use that chain to attack.
Which was exactly what he did, by using the chain as a very sharp whip against them. The first one to receive a cut from it, was the same outlaw that pointed a finger at him, as the chain sliced through his chest. Before he moved the chain against the one that was besides him which caused to cut his face.
The he started to swing the chain around to keep the ones that got too close away. Which worked as all of the the group kept their distance as they try to circle around him in order to overwhelm him. But unfortunately, it backfired as he started to perform several acrobatic moves in order to close the distance between himself and them, which caused each that didn't managed to move back at time, to be caught on the chain. Before long, most of the group on on the ground in severe pain from the cuts.
There were only two members of the large outlaw group that were still standing as they managed to fall back in time. As the boy with the chain noticed the two. He made a maneuver that caused the chain to wrapped around his left arm perfectly.
Noticing this, one of the two that was still standing, saw it as a opportunity and decided to attack before he could unwrap the chain again. Unfortunately, it turned out to be a simple mistake as the boy easily blocked his attack and delivered a very hard punch into his throat, which caused his to fall into the ground quickly.
The boy then approached the last outlaw standing, which was smart enough to not try his luck against him. Looking completely stoic and unaffected by what just happened, he asked the outlaw one more time. "Take me to where the stolen goods are, or join them." It demanded him while pointing at the ones that have fallen.
The last outlaw nodded and signaled him to follow him. Both walked through the ruined town without saying a word. Until they arrived on a wooden cabin, which seemed to be most intact spot on the whole town. As the outlaw stops and points at it.
"You first." The boy ordered him.
The Outlaw complied and walked towards the entrance of the cabin. He tries to open the door but it's locked. "It's locked." He informed the boy.
In response, the boy approached the door and completely busted open by delivering a hard kick on it. Before grabbing the outlaw and pushing him inside. Inside was surprisingly bright inside. The entire cabin was empty with a single thing, a generic looking chest. Which enraged the boy. "Do you take for a fool?" He asked the outlaw in rage.
The outlaw looked nervous. "We used some of it to buy supplies and some members of our group took the rest when they deserted us a week ago." He explained.
"It's amazing, you idiots managed to both waste and lose an amount that should have lasted a year at least." The boy mocked him as he approached the chest to see what was left. Which unfortunately for him, it was not even half full. "Great, so this wasn't even worth the trouble." He complained out loud.
"Who are you anyway?" The Outlaw asked. "Did someone hired you to recover what we stole it or something?"
"No, I just heard about it and decided to take it for myself." He admitted as he counted what was left in the chest.
"So you're just an outlaw like me." Unknowingly to the boy, the outlaw reached for a knife hidden on his boot.
"Yeah, I'm totally like you, an incompetent moron that just saw someone dispatch all of his friends without breaking a sweat and still think that it's a good idea to try to attack him." He replied sarcastically. "Drop that knife, it's gonna be as useless as your hand if you try to use it."
The outlaw made a surprised expression after hearing that. With the knife still at hand however, he decided to ignore his advice and attack him.
As he changed at him. The boy only sighed and with a quick turn, he drew his sword with his right hand on a reverse grip and easily chopped the outlaw's hand off. "AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!" The outlaw screamed in agony as soon as his severed hand hit the ground.
"I warned you, you moron." He spoke as he put his sword back on the scabbard. His sword was Ninjato, commonly used on the earth kingdom.
"AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!" The outlaw kept on screaming in agony.
"Oh, shut up." The Boy threw a very hard punch into his face which knocked the outlaw out cold.
After the Boy dispatched the last outlaw, he grabbed the chest and left the ruined town. He got as far away from it as possible and set camp, it was very cold so he needed to prepare himself for the night. This was a waste of time, the amount left in that chest is hardly worth it. He thought in deep frustration as he tried to keep himself warm on the fire that he made.
It might last a few weeks at most. Dammit! I was counting on an amount that would last a month at most. I need to go south. He kept on considering his options as trying to ignore the cold. Damn war, I had move out of my hideout because of it. And my things were lost as well.
Two months ago, he was living on a village at east, but soldiers from the fire nation occupied the village and he was forced to move on. Maybe I can saddle in another village for a time, preferably somewhere quiet. Or maybe ... Maybe I should just lay here and die. He wasn't being serious, but he was very tired. So he lays on the ground with the cold wind dropping his body temperature. Looking at the clear sky, only one thing passed through his mind. What would you think of me now, mother? It was a question that he would really like answer. Would find excuses for my behavior or would disown me for it. Would you say, "You did what you had to do to get by." Or "I'm ashamed of you, I didn't raised you to be like this." I wish I knew the answer. Whatever it is, I'm so sorry, but that's who I am now.
Suddenly, he closes his eyes, not really paying attention to the fire dying out. Which caused the darkness to surround him completely and before he knew it, everything was dark but he didn't feel any cold. Which was strange, but, comfortable at the same time. After sometime, he finally opened his eyes. Only to see nothing but darkness around him.
"You look peaceful." Out of nowhere, he heard a voice on his left. He turned his head to the left in order to check it out. Besides him there was a boy, definitely younger than him, he was bald and had some strange blue arrows tattooed on his body with the most visible being the one on his head.
He didn't really flinch or even gave a reaction, he just asked a question that he didn't really care about the answer. "Who the hell are you?"
"I'm Aang." He introduced himself while extending his hand. "What's your name?"
He just looked at Aang with a stoic expression, not even bothering to shake his hand. "Len." He bluntly introduced himself. "Is this a dream or did I froze to death?" Len asked Aang not sounding very worried..
"No, you didn't froze to death." Aang answered his question. "I did though, and I need your help."
Len made a slightly confused face at what he said. "If you actually froze to death, what could you possible need my help with?" He asked in confusion. "You're dead."
"Well, you see... I need to take over my duty." Aang tried to explain to him.
"Forget it," It was his instant response before he closed his eyes again.
"You didn't even heard what it is yet." Aang pointed out in frustration.
"You have some unfinished business left in this world and now you need me to help you fulfilled so you can pass on, I saw that nonsense in play when I was a kid." Len lazily told him. "The answer is no."
"That's somewhat what it is, but excluding the pass on part." Aang tried to tell him.
Len didn't say anything, he just lay on the ground with his eyes closed.
"Listen, I was the Avatar but-" Aang was about to explain something but was interrupted.
"HAH!" It was Len's response. "You're the Avatar, don't make me laugh, the Avatar has been missing for almost a hundred years now."
"Because I was frozen all this time." He tried to explain. "Short version; I found out that the Air Nomads were going to sent me to the Eastern Air Temple in order to complete my training, I got sad and end up running away with my flying bison, Appa, though we were caught in a storm shortly after, which caused us to crash into the water."
"Weren't you supposed to have frozen to death then?" Len asked in curiosity.
"I saved myself and Appa from drowning by semi-consciously entering the Avatar State and freezing us both in a sphere of ice through a combination of airbending and waterbending." Aang finished his explanation.
"Avatar State?" Len asked in confusion.
"The Avatar State is a defense mechanism, designed to empower with the skills and knowledge of all the past Avatars." Aang answered his question.
"If you had access to such ability, how exactly did you die?" He asked him.
"I... Don't... Really know." Aang told him.
Len just stared at him with a blank face. "Whatever, I don't really care anyway." He informed him. "Why exactly are you bothering me with this?" He asked him. "If you're actually the missing Avatar and you died. That means that the Avatar was reborn as a Waterbender, why aren't you bothering him or her instead?"
"I am." Aang told him.
"No, you're not, you're bothering me." Len replied.
Suddenly, a small pause ensured as the two stared at one another with Len widening his eyes after a minute or two. "No,no,no,no,no,no,no,no" He started to deny it. "You're definitely mistaking it."
"No, I'm not."Aang argued. "The fact that we're talking is a confirmation of that."
Len then looked around and couldn't see anything but darkness. "Am I dead?"
"You already asked that, and I said no." Aang repeated. "You semi-consciously activated your Avater state to save yourself from the cold, just like I did." He explained.
"How? I don't remember doing that?" He asked in deep confusion.
"I don't remember doing it either, but I did." Aang assured him.
"But... How the hell am I new Avatar?" He asked him in disbelief.
"I don't know, it's completely random as long as you're a certain bender." Aang explained. Suddenly, he looks around and notices something. "Listen, our time is up. I need you to search for my body on the South Pole, there's something on it that can help you."
"South Pole?" Len asked in confusion.
Out of nowhere, the darkness started to disappear and the light was coming back. Suddenly, Len open his eyes and sees the sun light illuminating his surroundings. He looks at his left again and noticed that Aang was gone. Len sits up from the ground and had a single thought about all of that.
What a stupid dream. He thought before standing up. Time to get going. Len then started to gather his things to prepare for his journey to the south. Like I'll waste my time searching for a corpse.
Thanks anyone who decided to check this story. Please leave review or something because I honestly am not entirely sure about the quality of this chapter.
An answer to a question:
Like what I read about the Avatar Oc aside from the fact he's not going to be the biggest fan of using his elements at the start that's kind of a bummer everything else thought sounds great oh but I hope it wasn't firebending that killed his mother oh and that despite his feelings towards bending at the start unlike Aang the Oc learns and masters some of the sub bending styles
Another way he'll be the opposite of Aang I'm betting is while Aang did everything he could to not kill people I assume the Oc won't blink twice at killing
Another hope I have is he tells the past Avatars to fuck off and leave him alone even when he decides to take more action he always rejects the past avatars and willingly cuts them off
You can count on it.
I think we already established that.
The way he just treated Aang was the nicest that he'll ever be to the other Avatars.
