Chapter One

Lorelei walks down the street. She's being followed, and she knows she is. It's only been a few weeks since she got 'free'. (She uses that term very loosely, because how free were you really when you were a non-white person in the south at this time?) Her followers weren't exactly doing a good job at being discreet, although there was a possibility that they weren't trying to. What did they expect her to do anyway? Run for help, and make things worse for herself? Of course, they don't expect her to be a bloodthirsty vampire, who could kill however many of them there were before they had a chance to run. And that was exactly what she wanted.
The men finally decide to make their move, and jump her. She drops the fearful act she had been playing up until then. She snaps one of their necks with ease. The other, in shock, watches as his partner falls to the ground. She takes this as her chance to attack. She pounces on the now lone man, pushing him to the ground. She sits her fangs into his neck, and his screams are short lived as he bleeds out in seconds. Once there was nothing left to drink, she lifts her head up. She wipes the blood from her face, she licks it off her hand. She stands up, and speeds away from the scene.
Lorelei wakes up with a start. She sighs, as she realizes that it was just a dream. Or a flashback, more accurately. She gets out of bed, and grabs her shoes. She leaves her room, walking to the cafeteria. She finds other pajama clad students, looking for a late night snack. Among them is Kira Ford. Which is odd, considering this is usually the hour that Kira is training with the headmaster. Along with her other friends.
Ever since the four had saved the school a few months ago, the headmaster had been helping them with their powers. Lorelei and some of the other students had started to get the impression that something more was going on. But it wasn't any of her business. Lorelei grabs something to eat, then walks back to her room. Just as she sits on her bed, her phone dings. She grabs her phone, seeing that it's a school message. Announcing a partner project for the seniors in one of her classes. She scrolls down to see who her partner would be, expecting and hoping it would be another vampire.
But it's not. It's Hunter Bradley. Aka Jinx. She groans, just her luck.
Lorelei wakes up to her alarm. She gets out of bed, and gets ready for the day. As she's doing her makeup, someone knocks on her door. She narrows her eyes in confusion. It's not like she had any friends that would come to her room. The only people she even talked to on more than one occasion were the goody two shoes gang, and Jinx. She walks over to the door, opening it. And she has to resist the urge to groan when seeing that Jinx is on the other side.
"What a great way to start the morning."
"And you think I want to be here?"
"Fair enough. But you do realize that our project isn't due for another two weeks, right?"
"Yes. But wouldn't you like to get it over with?"
She growls under her breath. "Fine. Tonight. Now let me out."
He raises his hands in surrender, as he moves out of her way. He says sarcastically, "this is going to be fun."
She scoffs, as the sarcasm isn't lost on her. She slings her backpack over shoulder, and continues down the hallway. Jinx goes down the opposite direction, which is the only thing he'd done that didn't make her annoyed and or upset.

Present day
"Bring me Xavier." A woman says. She's sitting at the head of a long table, with a red headed man standing next to her. The man snaps his fingers, and two more men drag another red headed man into the room. The men force the man into the chair at the other end of the table. "Thank you boys. Now leave us."
The three men march out of the room. The woman stands up from her chair, walking over to the man. "CJ, please-"
"Relax Charles, I'll only kill you if you don't tell me what I want to know."
"I'll tell you whatever you want to know! Just please don't kill me!" Charles sobs, blood and tears dripping down his face.
"Where is Lorelei De Santos?"
"S-somewhere in California. That's all I know."
"Reefside?" She ponders.
"I don't know. Maybe? But Lorelei doesn't seem like the type to go to a place like that."
"You're right. But you're hiding something."
"No no, I swear I'm not hiding anything!"
CJ's face goes blank, as she quickly grabs a knife from the table. She presses the blade against Charles' neck. "What are you hiding?"
"She's at Hawkins Academy for the Supernaturally Gifted! She's a student there! Don't kill me!"
CJ slowly pulls the knife away. "I'm not going to kill you."
Charles breathes a sigh of relief. "I'm going to make you a vampire."
She sinks her fangs into his neck, and he screams. She pulls away, licking the blood from her lips. She snaps her fingers, and the men rush back into the room. "Take him to the plantation house."
The same two men that had dragged him in, dragged him out. The first red headed man stays behind. He clears his throat. "Your sister has been calling."
"Which one? I have too many siblings to even remember at this point."
"Karone."
CJ slowly turns around, marching over to the man. "I told you never to mention that name around me again! She is not my sister! And she hasn't been since the day she betrayed me!"
"I'm sorry, but it's been years. Decades. And I think what she did was more reactionary than-"
"Your job is not to think. Your job is to do whatever I say. Now leave before I rip out one of your vital organs."
The man scurries out of the room.
