Skylar: Hola chicos y chicas! This is my new novel, Together We Make A Family. Just so people will know, all the characters in Sing don't belong with me. Only this plot and my OC's. Alright, enjoy this story!

It was a peaceful and beautiful morning in Calatonia. Everyone was enjoying the weather and wanted to take advantage of it before it would rain later in the day. Well, everyone except Irene.

Irene was a kinkajou, in her teen years, and she was… alone. There was an incident that happened 5 months ago in which made her an orphan. She tried to get a job but because she wore rags, her appearance wasn't up to standards, thus resulting animals that were store owners to refuse to hire her. And even if she tried to go shop for a loaf of bread or buy a granola bar, the owners kick her out and threatened to call police and child services if she returned. So, she ended up looking for scraps of food to survive.

Irene was walking down heading to her hidden home, which was in a back alleyway. She saw a news station, saying how the last show from Moon Theaters was amazing and a success. The screen changed to some photos of the last successful show, and Irene had to smile. She looked up to the whole crew of singers from Moon Theaters, especially Johnny Egerton.

There was an image of him in his warrior costume from the last show, which made him look fierce and strong. Irene's eyes widened with awe, but not because she was like one of those fangirls who had a crush on him. Instead, she wished for the millionth time that she would have an older brother that would look out for her, like Johnny for example.

She sighed and started walking again, looking at the sky that was starting to be covered with dark grey clouds.

Oh, boy. She thought. Better get to the alleyway, fast. She picked up her speed and headed to the all too familiar alleyway. Suddenly, lighting flashed, and then a roar of thunder followed. Irene gasped and ran to a huge box. She crawled in, and looked outside, sighing sadly, and letting a few tears fall from her eyes.

I miss you guys… I miss you all so much…

Johnny was in the Moon Theaters along with his crewmates and friends and they were on the stage, waiting for Buster to come back with their checks.

There was Rosita, who was a pig and a mother of 25 kids with a husband named Norman.

Gunter, who was also a pig, but a dancer, and has a German accent.

There was Meena, an Indiana elephant, who had stage fright but managed to overcome her fear, and is dating an ice cream parlor, who was also an elephant named Alfonso.

Mike was a small white mouse with an arrogant attitude, but he also was a gambler. Once he managed to pay a huge debt to a gang of grzzaly bears, he was able to join the crew back.

Then there's Ash, a female porcupine, who was also a tomboy rocker, and finally, Johnny, a teenage mountain gorilla whose father, Big Daddy, was leader of a gang, but BD went to jail for being caught in a crime. But thankfully, his sentence was almost up, and Johnny was looking forward to seeing his dad again.

They also had three other crewmates. Nooshy, a lynx who break dances and helped Johnny learn how to dance, Clay Calloway, a lion who is a Rockstar, and Porsha Crystal, an artic grey wolf hybrid, who is adventurous and loves to follow her new passion to sing.

"So, what do you guys think Mr. Moon's new idea be?" Johnny asked in his English voice.

"Don't care. I just want my money." A snippy and impatient voice said. Everyone turned to see Mike who had an impatient face and was tapping his foot.

Ash rolled her eyes in annoyance. She wore a gray shirt with a black shirt with skinny white stripes across the shirt, over the gray one, along with a red and black checkered skirt, jeans, and black sneakers. The female porcupine deadpans, "Listen, Mike, that's all you care about."

Mike ordered, "Quiet, Spikey."

Ash narrowed her eyes and was ready to give a piece of her mind, but Johnny gave a reassuring hand on her shoulder. "Don't listen to him Ash." He assures.

Ash takes a deep breath then relaxes. "Okay. Thanks." She gives a thankful smile to which Johnny returns it. He pulls his hand away and looks at the group for a moment. "Listen, can one of you grab my check? I want to go out for a few minutes." He asked.

Ash piped up, "Sure. I'll get it and give it to you."

"Thanks!" He said happily, then walked out of the theater, for a peaceful walk. He was only out there for a few minutes, when suddenly it started to rain, heavily.

Darn it! Johnny thought in annoyance. I didn't expect this. Better get inside before I get sick from the rain.

Thankfully, he didn't walk too far from the theater, so he started his way back, when suddenly, he heard a humming sound. He stopped and looked around to see if someone was trying to scare him, but no one was around him. Everyone went for shelter to avoid the rain. He shrugged, then started to walk again, only to hear the humming again. He stopped, then he heard a female singing voice.

Irene

Through the glass, over the wall

Looking for something new…

Johnny's eyes widen. He never heard of that song, yet it sounded amazing! He turned to the direction of the voice and saw an alleyway. He went in and looked around to find out who sung.

The voice continued…

Irene

Wake from the dream, forget about the past

At the end of the rainbow is you…

That voice is so wonderful! Johnny thought. Who's singing it? He looked around and didn't see anyone, but he knew someone was there. He waited for the person to sing, in which she did.

Irene

What's in a name, a familiar refrain?

We all play our roles in a box full of holes…

Johnny realized that the voice sounded sad yet soothing at the same time. He came across some boxes and ended up in an area where there was a box and a dumpster.

Irene

When the future is lost, and the lines have been crossed

I know where I will be

That voice is close now. Johnny thought. She must be here.

He looked around and saw a box, and in that box was a female teenage kinkajou wearing rags and hugging her knees. Her eyes were closed, but there were tear stains on her cheek. She sung the last chorus, her voice breaking with the last three words.

Irene

Through the lows and the highs, I will stay by your side

There's no need for goodbyes, now I'm seeing the light

When the sky turns to grey and there's nothing to say

At the end of the day

I choose you

The kinkajou put her head down and started to cry. Johnny couldn't help but pity on the kinkajou. Seeing her cry broke his heart, even though he and the kinkajou didn't even meet yet.

"Hey…" He spoke.

The kinkajou looked up and once she saw Johnny she jumped back in surprise.

"Y-You're… You're Johnny Egerton…" She said with awe and surprise in her voice.

He chuckled. "Yes I am." His facial expression then changed to concernment. "Why are you alone? It's raining heavy today." He said, while gesturing to the pouring rain.

"Oh. Well…" The girl's voice trailed off, seeming to not want to share why she's alone.

Johnny noticed and he decided to change the subject. "What's your name?" He asked.

The girl looked at him for a moment, observing him, debating whether to trust him. She finally spoke. "My name is Irene. And…" She decides to answer Johnny's first question. "... Well I'm just sleeping here."

Johnny froze when she said that she lived in the alleyway. She's homeless? He thought. I'm not going to accept that! You know what? I'll take her back to my apartment. I just need to earn her trust.

Johnny spoke. "Listen, Irene, how about you come with me to the Moon Theater? You can stay there until the rain stops."

Irene's eyes widen. "R-Really? I-I don't know…"

"No, I insist! You can even meet my friends." He assures her then holds his hand out.

Irene looked at the hand, then at Johnny. She wasn't sure whether to trust him, but Johnny had a look of kindness and honesty. She slowly took his hand and stood up.

"Okay." She said, with a gentle yet determined face.
