Hey guys! I'm PrimroseRaspberry, and welcome to my story! Before I continue, I'd like to say something to someone whom I hope is reading this: my friend, smallvillelover. I received your message about a story request for Miraculous, and I want to respond to it so I can grant your wish, but I can only do it on PM and for some reason I can't access your message in the way that will let me reply to it from there. I was hoping I wouldn't have to reply this way, but the circumstances left me with no other option. I don't know why I was able to reply specifically to you in PM and now I'm not, but hopefully we can fix the problem soon. :)
Now, it's time to share a bit regarding the story you're about to read. The first thing you should know is that it's a crossover with the TV show "In The Night Garden," something I used to watch as a kid. It's a show I still like today, so if you aren't fond of it, then you don't have to read this story. More importantly, please don't leave any negative comments about the show through the reviews; I'm aware that many people have already done so on many sources, and it sickened me to see what they said. So, please keep in mind that I'm someone who likes the show, and any negative comments about it or any of the characters from it will not be tolerated.
I was inspired to write this story after rewatching the night garden episode "The Ninky Nonk Wants A Kiss" earlier this week. I mean, the apparent romance between Upsy Daisy and Igglepiggle was just so sweet, and then this question popped into mind: what if Upsy did her "kiss everything and everyone she sees" routine in a place other than the night garden—in a place where it could lead to trouble with the law or something? And of course, since "Miraculous Tales Of Ladybug & Cat Noir" is one of my favourite shows, I decided to create this crossover and write about what I think might happen if Upsy Daisy were to do her kissing thing in Paris. I don't own "Miraculous" or "In The Night Garden," but I'm really fond of both shows and always will be. I hope you enjoy the story! ;)
Chapter 1
"So where are we going to play?"
"Well, it'll definitely be someplace new this time."
"So we're not going to Alya and the twins' apartment either?"
"Alya and her family are on vacation in Mexico this week. So…I hope you like music, because we're going to a place that's filled with all kinds of musical fun."
"Yay! I love music!"
Marinette chuckled, feeling relieved. She was babysitting her young friend, Manon Chamack, today, while her mother helped a friend at work with something. They had originally planned to hang out at Marinette's apartment, but since it had caught on fire after an oven accident, the place was closed down for repairs, and the Dupain-Chengs had to stay at the Le Grand Paris hotel until the repairs were finished. Since the hotel also happened to be the permanent residence of Chloe Bourgeois, Marinette's spoiled rival, the girl had had no choice but to contact her friends (with the obvious exception of Alya) and ask if they could go to one of their homes instead.
Finding a new place to hang out at the last minute hadn't been an easy task. Alix and Mylène both said no because they each had plans already, and Rose couldn't say yes, since she'd been hospitalized an hour ago due to her chronic illness. Juleka wouldn't be home either because she wanted to go support Rose, but nevertheless, she'd agreed to let Marinette and Manon hang out at her houseboat. Juleka's mother and brother didn't have any plans (at least, none that involved leaving their ship) for today, so they would be home.
As Marinette used a bike to ride to the Seine, with Manon relaxing in the burley trailer attached to the back, the duo began a conversation together. Marinette told Manon a bit about the place they were going, claiming Juleka's brother Luka was a handsome prince and their mother Anarka was a friendly pirate. A fascinated Manon then asked if she would get to see some gold treasure when they got to the right place, to which Marinette said no. "You'll get to see a lot of instruments, though," she added. "Luka loves making instruments, and I'm sure he won't mind if you play one of them."
"I'll get to play an instrument made by a prince?" Manon exclaimed in excitement, and Marinette half-wished she hadn't said anything. When Manon got excited, sometimes it was a warning for whoever was supervising her to watch out. As many people in Paris knew, Manon was one of the most mischievous little kids in town; even when she wasn't under the influence of an akuma.
They reached a curb, and Marinette turned to the right, instructing Manon to hold on as she did. As they finished the turn and continued heading straight, a nearby woman saw them passing by and rushed after them. "Wait," she called, "wait!"
Marinette slammed on the brakes. "What's wrong, ma'am?" she asked.
"I just thought I should warn you. Some strange…life-sized doll, I guess…just came up out of nowhere and tried to kiss me! I think it was probably a sentimonster."
Marinette froze at the news. "What did it look like?"
"Trust me," said the woman. "You'll know it's her when you see her." And with that, she ran off to go warn other people passing by about the sentimonster.
Marinette continued heading for the Seine, and Manon peered through the trailer's window at the scared woman. "Why do you think that sentimonster would try to kiss her, Marinette?"
"Oh, I don't know," her babysitter replied. "It might be Zombizou, but…why would she be referred to as a life-sized doll sentimonster? She's clearly a human being who lives in Paris, just like you and me!"
"Maybe it's not a villain at all. Maybe it's one of those creatures from that far away garden Mommy told me about."
Marinette snickered. "Far away garden? When did you hear about that?"
"Last month. Remember when Mommy and her friend Miss Contard went on vacation to talk about something new on the news? While they were out of town, their boat crashed into a garden island filled with grass and sank! Very strange but friendly creatures live on that island, and while four of them fixed the boat, two of them made sure Mommy and Miss Contard had the best playdate ever!"
"Maybe they were just hallucinating," said Marinette, not entirely believing Manon's story.
"What's hallucinating?"
"When you get hurt so badly, you start seeing and hearing things that aren't really there. That sometimes happens when people's boats crash, you know."
"Marinette, those friends do exist! Mommy knows it because she pinched herself, but nothing changed! It wasn't a dream, or ha-loo-sa-na-shin-ing."
"Whatever you say, Manon," was all Marinette could say. She couldn't tell her young friend this, but she actually did think she was telling the truth. For Manon's mother and her friend weren't the only ones who had unexpectedly discovered strange creatures…
They soon arrived at the Seine, where Marinette parked the bike and the trailer before heading toward the Couffaine houseboat with Manon. There, they knocked on the door and were let in a few seconds later by Luka.
As they went inside, Marinette waved to Luka, a little bit flustered. "Hey Luka! This is girl, the Manon I'm babysitting…I mean, this is Manon, the girl I'm babysitting!"
Not minding his friend's stuttering, Luka smiled calmly. "I know. Juleka texted me from the hospital and said you'd be coming with a special new guest."
"Hi, handsome musical prince!" Manon greeted excitedly.
Instantly Marinette's cheeks turned bright red with embarrassment. "Uh, she didn't mean that! I mean, not that you're not cute—I mean handsome—I mean, a prince. I mean, she's still young, and I kind of told her that you were—"
Luka just smiled and nodded. "It's okay, Marinette. She can call me a prince if she wants."
"Yay!" Manon cheered, and before Marinette could stop her, she ran into the living room and started jumping on the couch. As she jumped, she bumped into the lamp that sat next to the couch's edge, causing it to fall off its stand and break.
"I'm so sorry, Luka," Marinette apologized, "She's very energetic, and I have to warn you…she can also be a bit persuasive."
"It's okay," reassured Luka. "Mom isn't exactly into cleaning up, so as long as she doesn't break any of her instruments, everything should be fine." His gaze shifted to Manon. "She's not the first excited kid to be on this boat."
Marinette's eyes widened. "Really? You babysat kids like her?"
"No, I meant myself and Juleka. When we were her age."
"Oh." Marinette instantly felt embarrassed again, but Luka didn't seem to notice. He was just happy to know she was doing a good deed for Manon, but mainly, he was happy to see Marinette in general. Marinette herself, however, was lost in thought. Maybe this hadn't been a good idea after all—she had a crush on Luka just like she had a crush on her classmate Adrien, so she got pretty flustered and awkward around both of them. Of course, with his calm and compatible nature, Luka was easier to talk to and trust with secrets, but Marinette still didn't know what to say around him at times. And to make matters worse, today she was with Luka, and her friends from school weren't there to support her. Juleka, who knew Luka better than the rest of her friends, wasn't there to provide guidance on what to say, and Alya, Marinette's BFF, wasn't even in Europe! Oh, how in the world had things come down to this?
A door opened, and in walked Luka's mother, Anarka. She was startled to see Manon and the broken lamp. Turning to Marinette and Luka, she demanded, "What kind of uncontrollable rascal did you let into my ship?"
"Mom, this is Manon Chamack, the girl Marinette's babysitting today. They're here to hang out, remember?"
"Juleka never said anything about her being that naughty!" Anarka exclaimed. "Look at what she's already done to that lamp!"
"Don't worry, Anarka," Marinette said. "Just get a movie about Ladybug and Cat Noir set up, and she'll calm down. Trust me."
Anarka groaned. "Don't let her out of your sight, mateys," she warned, just before leaving the room.
When the movie was finally set up, Manon stopped what she was doing and sat down to watch it without another word. Anarka sighed with relief and then turned to her son and Marinette. "Thank you, me young pirates. Now I think it's time I told you the real reason why I came in here. Come with me, out onto the deck."
Although confused, Marinette and Luka nodded, then allowed Anarka to lead them outside. Once there, she showed the teens a smaller boat that was resting against the houseboat. It looked kind of like a rowboat, except there were no paddles. Instead, there was a tall brown pole standing at the back of the boat, with a tiny light bulb attached to it. "At some point at dawn," Anarka explained, "I heard some thumping noises and a maraca sound, as though some raiders were climbing across me deck with some kind of rattle. I came out here to investigate and saw no one, but this boat was bumping against mine, also with no one in it. Does that seem strange to you?"
"Not exactly," admitted Luka, "but the boat…I've never seen anything like it before."
Marinette observed the boat. "It looks like some kind of mix between a sailboat and a rowboat. But how come there's no sail? Or paddles?"
"Only whoever owns that boat would know," said Anarka.
With a sigh, Marinette turned to the Couffaines. "This isn't the only weird thing that happened today. While Manon and I were on our way here, someone told us that a life-sized doll tried to kiss her without her permission! She didn't tell us what the doll looked like. Just that it was a sentimonster and we would know who it was once we saw her."
Suddenly Manon rushed onto the deck. "Marinette! Prince! Pirate! Come on, Mom's about to go on live TV again!"
Anarka stared at her in confusion. "Weren't you watching that movie?"
Manon shrugged. "I got bored. So I went into the kitchen and saw your computer was on! Then I went to the news website."
Anarka started to give her a stern look, but Luka stopped her. "Let it go," he whispered. "She just got a little curious."
His mother calmed down, and then the four of them went back inside to watch the news on Anarka's computer. The introduction to the news channel played, and then Manon's mother, Nadja Chamack, appeared onscreen. She was sitting at her table as usual, holding a few sheets of paper. However, sitting next to her was Mayor Bourgeois, the mayor of Paris and the father of Chloe Bourgeois. This was unusual; normally Nadja sat by herself when she made live announcements. What was the mayor doing by her side?
"Don't be bemused, it's just the news," Nadja said, using the catchy greeting she always used at the beginning of a news announcement. "Hi, I'm Nadja Chamack. Today I have a special guest with me in the studio: Mayor André Bourgeois! Mr. Mayor, would you like to explain what brings you here today?"
"My pleasure, Mrs. Chamack," said the mayor. "I'm here today to address an important issue, as my daughter Chloe instructed."
"Oh great," mumbled Marinette. "What did Chloe tell him to do this time?"
The mayor continued his speech. "It has come to my attention that not everyone is aware of the appropriate times to kiss other people."
Manon laughed, while Marinette, Luka, and Anarka all gasped in surprise. Why would Chloe care about a subject like that when she always kissed Adrien without his permission? Not to mention all those times she'd angrily gotten into Marinette's face whenever they had a disagreement about something…unless…
"Footage?" Nadja asked in confusion, snapping Marinette's attention back to the news. "You have footage of what happened with your daughter that you want to show us?"
"Her friend Sabrina filmed it all on her phone," explained the mayor. "Chloe's original plan was for herself to be filmed talking about my hotel, but while she was recording her, the incident happened. After that, Chloe said I could borrow Sabrina's phone so I could show everyone what happened."
Marinette rolled her eyes. She wasn't sure why, but her classmate Sabrina Raincomprix, despite her kind and generous personality, always did whatever Chloe told her to do. So of course, she'd let the mayor borrow her phone without any second thoughts. How Sabrina was still friends with Chloe after all the misery she made her endure was still a mystery.
"Alright then," said Nadja. "Play the footage."
There was a second of silence, and then Nadja and the mayor disappeared as a video began to play. In the video, Chloe was standing in front of the Le Grand Paris hotel's front doors, giving her typical braggy smile. "Hello, Paris. Chloe Bourgeois here. As the daughter of the mayor of Paris, who also happens to run this hotel, I'm here to tell you about all the good things this hotel has to offer. First of all, it's run by a rich family. My family!"
As Chloe spoke, a girl who was about the same height as her came walking up, into the camera's view. She had chocolate-coloured skin, a golden yellow shirt with an orange flower pattern on it, scarlet and pink striped long sleeves, a reddish-pink skirt with a big white daisy pattern overshadowing its background colour and a yellow waistband, pink and yellow striped tights, and pink shoes. However, she also had very odd features that made it clear she was not human. Her pink hair stuck out all around her head in crazy-looking curved strands, some of which were red, orange, and yellow. Even more strangely, her skin's texture wasn't smooth, but soft; kind of like a stuffed animal's texture. And then Marinette understood; this was the "life-sized doll" the woman from earlier had warned her and Manon about.
The strange girl, with an upbeat smile that was not unlike Rose's typical sweet smile, saw Chloe at once. Instantly the girl's curvy hair strands bounced into more straight strands as a wave of excitement came over her, then her strands resumed their curvy form as she approached Chloe. Then, before the spoiled bully could say anything to her, or tell Sabrina to stop recording the video, the girl placed her hands on either side of Chloe's head and gave her a kiss on the forehead! A squeaky noise, kind of like the sound a rubber duck made whenever it was squeezed, came out as the girl's lips met Chloe's skin, and Manon burst out laughing. This time Marinette couldn't help but join in; Chloe had finally received some karma after all the times she'd kissed Adrien without his permission!
While Sabrina was laughing so hard that she had trouble holding the camera right, Chloe screamed. "Get away from me! Get away from me! EEEK! ZOMBIZOU, IF YOU GOT AKUMATIZED AGAIN, I ORDER YOU TO GET THAT THING AWAY FROM ME!"
"Hold on, Chloe," Sabrina gasped through her laughter, "I'll save you!"
But by then, Chloe didn't need saving anymore. As Sabrina said hold on, the strange girl was releasing herself from Chloe. "Daisy doo-oo," she sang, just before giving the hotel's wall a kiss and then skipping away.
While Sabrina was unable to stop herself from laughing even more, Chloe frantically wiped the kiss off of her forehead. She then pulled out her own phone and activated the selfie-taking setting to make sure there was no kiss mark on her forehead. Thankfully, there was nothing, which meant that Zombizou (who would have left a mark for sure) clearly had nothing to do with what just happened.
Sabrina finally managed to control herself and asked, "Are you okay, Chloe?"
Without a word, Chloe exited her phone's camera app and accessed the "Contacts" app. She pressed a few buttons and put her phone to her ear, and a few seconds later, her father's voice could be heard on the other end. "Princess? What's—"
"DADDY!" Chloe screamed in fury, and then the video ended.
Nadja and Mayor Bourgeois reappeared onscreen. "So, as I was saying," the mayor said, "it's alright to kiss someone if you're in a romantic relationship with that person, or if this person is a member of your family. But most importantly, if the other person is okay with being kissed. Under any other circumstances, kissing someone is inappropriate, and it may result in you getting arrested for…Mrs. Chamack, is everything alright?"
Nadja, who had gone wide-eyed in shock and fear as soon as the kisser in the video had appeared, stuttered a little, trying to speak but failing to do so. Manon grew worried. "Mommy? Mommy, say something!"
"Mr. Mayor," Nadja finally replied, "I have to tell you…I don't think she knew any better."
"What? Of course my daughter did the right thing by—"
"No, I meant the girl who kissed her. She didn't know any better. She's matured and all, but the one subject she has yet to learn regards the appropriate times where you should kiss someone. Did you even notice the look on her face when she kissed Chloe? She was just trying to play with her."
The mayor stared at Nadja in confusion. "Why are you taking the kisser's side? She had no right to kiss my daughter without her permission."
"Mr. Mayor, that 'kisser' isn't just anyone. She's a resident of the garden island Clara Contard and I washed up on last month. Remember when we told you about that?"
The mayor, Marinette, Luka, and Anarka all gasped. "I told you it wasn't haloosa-na-shin-ing," Manon said, smiling.
"I…I thought you were making it all up," the mayor said.
"Why would we make anything up?" Nadja asked him. "When I have an announcement to make, it's always the truth! That girl who kissed Chloe was Upsy, one of the island residents who helped me and Clara find shelter and enjoy ourselves. The other one was her best friend, or boyfriend, seeing as she kissed him a lot more than everyone and everything else on the island."
"Are…are you…saying she kissed other things like that too?"
Nadja chuckled. "Everything and everyone she saw would get one kiss. Even me and Clara. The only one who got more than one kiss was Upsy's best friend, or boyfriend. First they both hugged each other as she tenderly kissed him on the lips. Then she wrapped her arms around his chest and kissed his cheek, causing him to swoon dreamily and faint. After he woke up, she went to kiss a few other things, but came back and gave him another kiss on the cheek. He fainted again of course, but he quickly got back up. After that, he kissed her cheek. And she enjoyed it with all her heart." Then, realizing she got off topic a little, Nadja cleared her throat and added, "The point is, in Upsy's case, kissing people just one time is her way of expressing gratitude. Sure, she has a few things to learn about that, but that doesn't mean you have any right to arrest her."
"Well, an attack on Chloe is an attack on Paris," retorted the mayor. "So Officer Roger, if you're watching this, I want you to find that girl and make sure she's placed in a psychiatric hospital. If there's not enough space left in any of those, make sure there is at all costs."
"No!" Nadja cried out. "Don't do that. She's not as bad as you th—" The live broadcast ended before she finished her sentence, leaving everyone in silence.
Finally, Luka spoke. "We have to help that girl."
"Oh no you're not," his mother warned. "You're too young to deal with adult matters. I'm gonna save Upsy."
"Mom, wait!" Luka called, but his mother was already leaving the boat.
Marinette crossed her arms. "Manon, quick. Tell us everything you know about your mom's adventure in the faraway garden island."
"Well the island's really far away," said Manon. "But everyone who lives there is friendly! The four friends who fixed Mommy and Miss Contard's boat were cute. At least, that's what Mommy said. Three of them were Tombliboos, triplets that look exactly the same, except the colours of their hairs and clothes are different. They each had on these colourful trousers with polka dots on them. The fourth friend was a smaller one named Makka Pakka. He really likes cleaning things and washing people's faces. There were stones on his cheeks and the top of his head, and he had a stone tail too. Then there was the two friends who stayed with Mommy and Miss Contard while they waited for the boat to be fixed. One of them was blue, he had short red hair, and he liked to carry a red blanket everywhere. None of us could figure out his name though. And the other one, the girl who kissed Chloe…well, her real name is Upsy Daisy. But Mommy decided to call her Upsy for short. She said it's easier to remember."
Luka nodded. "Did your mom tell you about the kiss she gave her?"
"No," Manon admitted. "I think she didn't want me to kiss everything and everyone I saw like her. She never wants to teach me anything that fun. But she did tell me something else. Those friends can't talk the way we do. The blue one can only make squeaking noises, kind of like a mouse, and the other ones can talk, but all they can say are their own names and a few other things. Makka Pakka could say the names of his cleaning things, which were kind of funny. And Upsy loves talking about daisies. But one thing they can all say is 'Pip pip onk onk.' Mommy thinks that's their way of saying goodbye."
"Oh boy," Marinette sighed. "So um…how many things can Upsy say? I mean, aside from her name and the way they say goodbye."
"Just 'Daisy Do.'"
Marinette and Luka exchanged worried glances. They could tell they were both thinking the same thing: if Upsy's English was limited, there was no way the police would be able to understand her if she tried to reason with them on the kissing subject!
Instantly, Marinette turned to leave, and then her gaze fell upon the strange boat Anarka had pointed out earlier. Her eyes widened as she suddenly realized something. "Um, Manon…did Upsy Daisy have anything with her that would have sounded like…a maraca?"
Manon thought for a bit. "No…but Mommy said the blue friend's red blanket sounded like a maraca."
"So that means the strange boat came from the garden island…and Upsy's blue friend must be here too!" Marinette gasped. Her eyes widened, and she could feel herself about to undergo a panic attack.
Thankfully, Luka held Marinette's hands, which helped her calm down a bit. "Don't worry," he said calmly, "we'll find a way to help them both."
"Can I help too?" Manon asked.
Marinette started to say yes, but hesitated. It would be a good idea to bring her along, since she knew more about Upsy Daisy and her best friend (or boyfriend) than she and Luka did. At the same time, however, Manon was much younger than her and Luka; too young to deal with any adult matters that could come up if they had to deal with the police.
Finally, Marinette reluctantly replied, "I um…I think you'll have to stay here, Manon. Things might get out of hand, and, well, if they do, I don't think your mom will want you to see how crazy it gets."
"But I wanna come!" Manon insisted. She then stared up at Marinette, in a very sad but adorable way; something only she had the skill to manage.
"Oh no, not the baby doll eyes!" Marinette cried. She desperately tried to look away from Manon, but she just couldn't get the image of the girl's sad face out of her mind. This wasn't the first time Manon had tried this strategy on her, and the last few times she'd done it, her babysitter had always fallen for it. She couldn't let that happen this time.
"I'll stay with Manon," Luka told her. "You go find Upsy before the police do."
Marinette gave him a "thank you" smile and then rushed off the boat. Once she was out of the Seine, she hid behind a dumpster and opened her purse, allowing an adorable-looking red ladybug-like creature to fly out.
"This is going to be interesting," said the creature. "Even I've never heard of the faraway garden island Manon and her mother mentioned!"
"Well, Tikki, looks like we're both in for a treat today. I just hope I can convince the police to let Upsy go."
Tikki smiled. "I know you can do it, Marinette."
"Thanks. Tikki, spots on!"
What a beautiful day for Upsy Daisy today! There were so many new things to kiss, now that she was in a new place. Buildings, flowers, trees, people, animals, structures…giving everything and everyone she came across a kiss was so much fun! What she didn't understand was why some of the people she kissed (or at least tried to kiss) tried to avoid her once she came near. It seemed as though not everyone really wanted a kiss, but why? Kisses were such a sweet gesture!
She skipped down a road and gave two more buildings each a kiss, before noticing a man sitting in a park. He was happily feeding a flock of pigeons, while at the same time stroking the feathers of one pigeon who was sitting on his knee. How sweet of him! She was definitely going to give him a kiss next. Then the pigeons, and then everything else in the park: the trees, the merry-go-round, the bench, the gate, the accordion player standing near it…
Upsy Daisy didn't waste a second. She headed straight for the park, toward the pigeons and the man. Once she came near him, the man gave a friendly smile. "Hi there, miss. Can I help you?"
"Upsy Daisy, doo-doo-doo," sang Upsy, before leaning over and giving the man a kiss on the cheek. Instantly he recoiled, but didn't say anything. He didn't want his pigeons to be any more scared by what just happened than they already were.
After kissing the man, Upsy leaned forward and gave the pigeon on his knee a kiss too. The pigeon panicked and flew away as fast as he could. "No, Edgar," the man called. "Come back!"
Half of the remaining pigeons received a kiss after that, while the other half, not wanting to be next, flew away untouched. At this point, the man was starting to get upset. "Miss, I know I'm on bad terms with the police because they aren't nice to my pigeons and everything, but if you don't stop this, I'm going to call them!"
Unfazed, Upsy gave up trying to kiss the panicking pigeons and went to kiss the bench. She wasn't trying to be rude or anything—she just didn't realize how bad things would get if the police came. It wasn't like any police officers lived on the garden island…or like she'd met an officer before…
Anyways, the man didn't have to call the police, because as soon as Upsy finished kissing the bench, sirens were heard and a police car drove over. Out stepped Officer Roger, the most efficient but odd police officer in Paris. He entered the park and then locked eyes with the man who had been feeding the pigeons. "You'd better not have been feeding those pigeons again, Mr. Ramier," the officer warned sternly.
Ignoring the officer's warning, Mr. Ramier said, "That girl just came out of nowhere and kissed me! Then she scared off my pigeons, and now look at her. She's kissing everything in sight!"
Roger turned to see Upsy kissing the accordion player, and then the merry-go-round. "Alright missy, put your hands up and stop kissing everything!"
Upsy did as she was told, although she was confused. However, she lowered them when she heard someone shout, "Not so fast, scallywag!"
Roger groaned. "Anarka Couffaine, this is not the time."
Anarka stepped forward, a glare manifesting on her face. "As Nadja Chamack said, that girl does not deserve to be arrested! All she needs is a verbal lesson on when the appropriate kissing times are. Not an arrest!"
"Miss Anarka, if you keep this up, you'll be arrested," said Roger. Turning to Upsy, he bellowed, "And you, miss…you are not allowed to kiss anyone! Ever! Now get into my car, before things escalate."
"Stay away from her!" Anarka yelled, rushing in front of Upsy, who was now very scared. "Things'll escalate alright, but not in the way you had in mind!"
"Alright, that's it. You're under arrest."
"No, neither of us are."
Roger shook his head and approached the duo, pulling a pair of handcuffs out of his pocket. Anarka narrowed her eyes and spread her arms, so that she did some kind of starfish pose. Unfazed, Roger grabbed one of her wrists and tried to grab the other one, but she waved her free arm like crazy, making that task really difficult.
Seeing Roger was busy dealing with Anarka, Upsy took the opportunity to make an escape, but Roger grabbed her arm just in time, pulling her toward him. "Police orders," he told her. "Get into the back seat of my car and do not interfere. And don't kiss it or anything inside of it. You're not allowed to kiss any people, plants, or objects, understand?"
"Officer, let her go! Quick!"
While Upsy, hurt by what Roger said, did her best to free herself from his hold, Anarka, Roger, and Mr. Ramier turned to find Ladybug swinging into the park using her yoyo. She looked very worried.
"Ladybug, do not interfere with this. I'm only doing my job, and besides! There isn't an akuma attack going on at the mo—" And then suddenly, an akuma flew into view, touched the little ripcord on Upsy's waist, and absorbed itself into it. The ripcord turned black, and a look of malice slowly appeared in Upsy's eyes.
"No!" Ladybug screamed. Quickly, she tried to get her companion to resist Shadow Moth's influence, but it was no use. She couldn't hear her, and it was already too late anyway. Quickly, Ladybug backed away, motioning for Mr. Ramier, Anarka, and Roger to do the same.
"Upsy Daisy," said Upsy in an uncharacteristically cruel tone of voice. And then, before her companions knew it, she was engulfed in black and purple smoke.
Oh dear—will Ladybug and company be able to find Igglepiggle and rescue Upsy Daisy in time? Or things take another downward turn? We'll find out in Chapter 2, which is coming soon! :)
