Chuck Bartowski's Room

Chuck Bartowski shook his head. This wasn't happening, not to him. He'd left crap like this behind years ago. Chuck bit his lip, wincing at the pain. No, this was definitely real. He was definitely awake, and there were definitely government secrets trapped inside his head. His old boss was not going to be happy. Neither was his girlfriend. He winced as he imagined the look on her face. No, she was definitely not going to be happy.

He looked at the clock on his bedside. 2:55 AM. She'd still be awake. He walked over to his computer and punched in a series of commands. The cameras Casey thought he had been so clever about installing were now on a loop for the next hour. He pulled out the burner phone he kept in the false bottom in his desk and dialed a number. She picked up on the first ring.

"Hey."

"Hey yourself. How's my favorite girl?"

"I'd better be your only girl, mister. I'm good. We wrapped up that mess in Sri Lanka. We could've used you. You're still the best partner I ever had."

"My days of taking on operations are over. Or at least I thought they were." He said, and he heard an intake of breath over the phone.

"Charles Irving Bartowski, what is going on?"

Shit. She'd full-named him. She'd called him Charles. He was so screwed, and not in the fun way.

"I opened an email from Bryce Larkin. It contained a file on the Intersect Project."

"I thought that was a myth. Please don't tell me those idiots were stupid enough to-"

"Yep. Government secrets all wrapped up in my head. Not just theirs either. Lots of ours, including some that Nat didn't release. Good news is they can't access it without me. Bad news is, I don't know exactly how to make it work, and Director Graham and General Beckman want to use me as an asset."

"Like hell they are. We'll be there in seven hours."

"We?" He asked.

"Hello Agent Bartowski. It's been a minute."

"Yes sir."

"You still got your gear?"

"Yes sir." He replied.

"Good. Have it handy. If this turns ugly, I want you armed."

"Understood. Sir, they'll ask-"

"No. They'll answer. To me. Now try to get some rest. And Bartowski…"

"Yes sir?"

"Welcome back."

Seven Hours Later-6 AM Burbank California

Chuck opened his eyes, gripping the gun next to him.

"Easy. It's just me."

He relaxed at the sound of her voice, feeling her climb onto the bed next to him.

"Hi." He said, kissing her. She smiled, and kissed him back.

"Hi. Camera's are out. Skye says hello by the way." She said, and he laughed.

"I'm glad you're here. I've missed you."

"I've missed you too. But don't think you are out of the doghouse just yet."

He chuckled, taking in the bags under her eyes.

"Walker and Casey won't be here until 8. You need sleep. Rest for an hour. I'll wake you."

She nodded, resting her head against his chest. She was asleep in minutes.

He stayed awake, looking at her face. At 7 AM, he kissed her on the lips.

"Time to wake up." He said, and she smiled.

"Much better than my alarm clock. I'll see you in a little bit." She said, getting off the bed and kissing him again. Then she was out the Morgan door, leaving Chuck alone.

He allowed himself a small smile, and then he got dressed. He grabbed his gear, including his weapons and communication device from the hidden spots in his room. Then at 8 AM he walked outside.

"Bartowski."

"Casey. Where's Sarah?"

"Already at Castle. Let's go." The NSA Agent replied, and Chuck nodded. Casey hadn't noticed his weapons. It was amazing what people missed when they weren't looking for it.

Ten minutes after eight, they arrived at the Orange Orange, entering the Castle a moment after that.

"Morning Chuck!" Sarah called from where she stood.

"Morning Sarah. General. Director." He said, nodding to the two individuals on the screen.

"Mr. Bartowski. Now that you're here we can begin. Our intelligence-"

"Is very out of date. Hello Diane, Langston. Long time no see." Nick Fury said as he walked down the stairs with Phil Colson, Natasha Romanoff and Bobbi Morse following behind him.

"Fury. What the hell is-"

"Put down your weapons. Both of you. This isn't a fight you can win." Natasha said, and Casey shook his head.

"Sorry Nat. Friendship aside, Bartowski's our asset." He said, and Bobbi snorted.

"Funny John. He's actually one of ours. Good to see you Chuck." She said, and he smiled.

"You too Bobbi. Phil, glad to see you're not dead." He replied, and Colson laughed.

"Me too. We'll catch up in a few."

"Absolutely. Sarah, Casey, put down your weapons and I'll explain everything."

"Chuck-"

"You're outnumbered Sarah. Don't make me fight you." He said, pulling out his own gun.

"Mr. Bartowski-"

"Agent Bartowski, General. My name is Chuck Bartowski, Shield Agent Level 8, and this is now our operation."

Ten Minutes Later

"What the hell is going on Chuck?" Sarah asked as they all stood around the conference table in Castle. Sarah and Casey stood on one side, with Natasha, Phil, Bobbi, Chuck and Director Fury on the other. Graham and Beckman watched from the viewscreen.

"Director Fury, with your permission?" Chuck asked, and Fury laughed.

"I'm not Director anymore son. Let's stick to Fury. Phil, this is your call."

"Chuck, everything up to Level 7 clearance."

"Yes Director." Chuck replied.

"As you all know, I was unjustly kicked out of Stanford thanks to Bryce Larkin-"

"Asshole." Natasha, Sarah and Bobbi muttered.

"Yes, well…I had packed up my stuff and was walking to my car when someone called my name." He said, giving Bobbi a grin.

Stanford University-Six Years Earlier

"Chuck! Chuck Bartowski!"

Chuck turned at the sound of the voice, seeing a beautiful blonde in blue jeans and a Stanford t-shirt approaching him. She had a Stanford ball cap on her head.

"Look, not to be rude Miss uh-"

"My name is Bobbi Morse."

"Morse. Not to be rude, but I've had a crappy day, like a really crappy day and I just-"

"We know what's been done to you. Bryce Larkin is a piece of shit. He's also an Agent for the CIA." She said, and Chuck's eyes widened.

"What? Bryce, my friend Bryce is in the CIA? He's CIA? Wait, are you-"

"No. I'm an agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. My Director sent me. He'd like to talk to you about your future."

"Nice joke. Look, tell Bryce that he can go to-"

"This isn't a joke." She said, pulling out her badge.

"Okay Agent Morse-"

"Bobbi."

"Bobbi. What could the Director of the largest intelligence agency in the world want with me?"

"Let me buy you a cup of coffee, and I'll tell you what I can." She said with a smile.

Chuck thought about it. This whole thing was absolutely crazy. But what did he have to lose? Besides, it was just a cup of coffee.

"Okay. But I'm buying." He said, and she laughed.

"I think I can live with that."

A/N: So here is a storyline that just came to me and wouldn't let go. I hope you all enjoyed the first chapter! Regarding the story of Chuck's entry into SHIELD, I'm thinking of doing those almost like Arrow where there are flashbacks interwoven in the chapters. Please let me know your thoughts on this, or if it's better to do the whole flashback story all at once.
