Route 99. It was a bustling city named after the infamous route that anyone, on foot or in a vehicle, could cruise down and enjoy the wind in their hair. Of course, the slopped road stappled to the bright red and white signs and decal wasn't just for a cool breeze, but for one that turned that breeze into a gust of strong wind. And one hedgehog would be doing just that in 3… 2…
"1…" Sonic hummed as he grits his teeth, boosting down the road faster than anyone could keep track of, dodging cars and pedestrians alike, a gust of wind causing many to hold onto the side to keep from toppling over. He would reach the bottom in moments, using his momentum to jump and a powerline at the bottom, using it to bounce himself high into the air and above the city itself. With a smirk, he'd spin around and take a laid-back pose with his hands behind his head and a leg over the knee.
"Heh… Gotta love the places made for speed. I bet Tails picked this place just so I could have a good run." He said as he spun himself back around and landed on the grass beside the city, rushing off towards the woods nearby. Tails had called not long ago, seemingly excited to share a new invention with Sonic. He didn't give much information about it, but stated it should create a stable connection to travel between worlds. And he had specifically set the first true run to go to Blaze's dimension. The thought of getting to see Marine, Blaze, and the koalas again. Not to mention he would get a chance to race Johnny again, which already had the blue blur excited. With a shine of excitement in his eyes, he bolted through the woods, jumping around trees and rocks as he looked for his twin tailed friend.
"I wonder why a forest of all places... Was the workshop to small?" Sonic wasn't one for machinery, but he recalled Tails rarely ever moved it away from the workshop due to needing all the equipment. The only reason Sonic thought of this though was due to the fact he was struggling to find the machine and his friend. It didn't take long for Sonic to cover a lot of ground either so it shouldn't be this difficult. As Sonic launched himself through the forest, within the shadows behind the thick trees and leaves, a pair of dark red eyes watched, motionless as it waited…
Sonic stopped within the middle of the forest, sighing softly. It's been ten minutes and he had combed through the forest twice now. Was Tails late? It was unlike him, considering he could keep up with Sonic pretty well. It was worrying, but Sonic refused to panic now. He had faith Tails was okay… and…
Sonic's eyes went wide as his gaze focused on the approaching figures. It was a silver robot with jagged spines on his head, resembling Sonic himself. It looked familiar, like an older model he had faced a long time ago. In his hands was a small device, orange with small red orbs atop it, a red Chaos Emerald slotted on the back of it. The color alone was proof enough that it was probably his friend's device and one look at what was in the robots' other hand confirmed it. Laying weakly within the robots' grasp was the bruise and roughed up fox himself, his eyes shut and his breathing quiet and drained like he had been knocked out violently. It didn't tale long for this sight to send Sonic running forward with his fist wound back.
"Let him go!" Sonic demanded as he took a swing, only for his wrist to be grabbed and the robot spinning around and flinging him into a tree. Sonic hit it with a crack, the tree falling as sonic laid against the stump. He would struggle to rise, huffing as he started spinning into a ball, launching himself off the stump and soaring towards the robot. He stood there in wait as sonic got closer, only to be stopped by a second pair of metal hands. Sonic was slammed down against the ground below, his eyes widening as he lost his breath. He would cough and try to get his air back, looking up to see what had attacked him. Before him was a much more familiar blue robot, his eyed trained harshly upon the hedgehog.
"Ugh… Metal Sonic… Of course… How many more copies is Egghead going to make before he realizes you can't beat me." Sonic spat, growling as he got right back up, assuming a traditional boxing stance, bouncing side to side while throwing jabs in the air. "C'mon, you scrap heaps. I'll take you both down like nothing!" The two robots did not utter a word, the silver one simply flinging Tails to the side before handing Metal the device. With a nod to each other, Metal would begin working on the device while the silver one would vanish from view, only to appear right in front of Sonic with a hard jab to the gut. Sonic was flung up into the air, scrambling to get his focus back as he heard the robot launch itself up after him. Unfortunately for Sonic, this robot's speed had caught him off guard, a foot connecting with the top of Sonics head and sending him crashing right back down into the dirt. The robot would then slam down on Sonic's back with a sickening crunch, Sonic's eyes widening as pain shot across his body. The robot would slowly step off of him, walking over to Metal and simply pointing a finger.
"Send him… into a black hole…" The silver robot spoke, the voice crackling and broken, as though he was never programmed to truly speak. Metal would only nod and walk over to Sonic, the hedgehog looking up at Metal with an angry glare.
"I've outrun a black hole before… Twice if you count Null Void… I'll just run back out and crush you…" Metal would look as Sonic for but a moment as he spoke, then simply shook his robotic head. He then activates the device. It was a white flash, one blindingly bright as it forced even the robots to shut their screen like eyes. The light would then swirl, almost as though it was becoming a solid shape, spinning around until it landed behind Sonic in the shape of a ring. Soon the ring would start to vibrate, the inside of it taking shape and showing swirling clouds and a colorful landscape. And this was not what the silver robot wanted.
"DECIEVER!" It shouted as it quickly cracked the back of metals head, sending the cobalt bot to the ground. The ring began to spin as a vortex began sucking in the leaves around the area. The silver robot kicked Metal through the ring with aggression, snatching the device from the ground. He messed with it, seemingly trying to get the results he wished while Sonic grabbed onto a nearby root, trying not to get sucked in. He couldn't lose this easily, this soon. Not when his best friend was in danger. And speaking of Tails, with no ability to consciously save himself, the vortex's ever-increasing strength had finally reached the fox, his body lifting off the ground and quickly slipping past Sonic and into the Ring.
"No!" Sonic cried out as he let go of the branch, letting himself be launched into the ring after his friend. The robot would notice, unsure of what this could entail for the future he planned. This moment allowed the machine his hand to loosen, the device slipping out and hitting the ground hard on its way to the ring. The machine would shatter, the Chaos Emerald spinning free and slipping through the ring, the portal like light beginning to shrink with the device gone, stopping the wind as it closed with everyone inside.
Sonic fell through the sky, his quills blowing randomly as he tried to gain some balance and trying his best to reach his friend. With his back still shattered from that robots landing, however, there wasn't much Sonic could do except keep his eyes locked onto his friend to make sure he knew where the fox would land. Metal was already gone, and taking other glances around, Sonic could see the red Chaos Emerald falling behind.
"Alight… I've been through worse. We can get through this… Ugh… Tails?... Tails, wake up!" Sonic cried out to his friend, watching the poor fox spin helplessly through the air, the clouds below keeping what their landing zone would be a complete mystery. Sonic's mind began to panic as he tried to push himself through the air, refusing to just sit by and watch. With each painstaking reach, he would get a little bit closer and closer...
They would fall through the clouds and Sonic would feel his head make contact with a solid object, the impact causing him to black out. Popping out the end of the clouds, the two would fall lifelessly to the ground, a third figure appearing from the clouds. With a shake of its head, it would see the falling heroes and make a dash to Sonic. It managed to grab hold, but unfortunately, turning would show that Tails had once again vanished within the clouds. It dashed through and continued to look desperately, but the fox had appeared to have vanished without a trace. Unsure of what these creatures were or if they were even safe, the figure would flap its wings and make its way down to the ground and to a small house surrounded by animals and greenery, a rainbow streak behind them.
"Oh, this is so not cool..."
"You know, there's always a moment when chaos overcomes something. A life, a place, a story… It's a beast that sometimes order just can't control. Sometimes, of course. So, in an instance where chaos cannot be quelled, simply beating it at its own game is key. We've gone through this song and dance years ago. Let's see what's changed."
CHAOS AND CHAOS
ACT ONE: A HERO OUT OF THIS WORLD
"…I've never seen a creature quite like this before… His hooves look weird…"
"More like a griffons' claws… He definitely ain't one of us…"
"He's so cute! Oh my gosh I can't wait to learn!"
"Shy, now isn't the time. This thing landed on me in the middle of my nap! Wake it up so I can knock his lights out again!"
Sonic groaned weakly as he tried to open his eyes, his vision blurred and his body throbbing in pain. In his weak vision, he saw glimpses of a familiar place, burning as robots soared ahead. Confused, he tried to focus on these images, unsure of where he would ever get them from. He saw his friends with darkened eyes with blue tech like patterns, seemingly taken over by a computer virus. He saw a monster, throwing destruction and chocolate milk around like rain…
'Wait, chocolate milk?' Sonic's thought snapped him back to reality, his eyes finally opening, only to be met with three different faces, blurred but coherent enough to tell they were females, shaded with purple, yellow, and cyan. And they were all…
"How hard did I hit my head? Horses that talk… That's crazy and that's coming from a talking Hedgehog…" Sonic muttered, the females gasping and backing up. Sonic tried to sit up, gasping in pain as his back shot overwhelming levels of agony into his body. Sonic laid back once more, gritting his teeth as he tried to relax. The purple 'horse' decided to step a bit closer, shaking her head.
"You... speak our language?... Are you dangerous?" She asked, the odd horn on her head glowing. It was a peculiar sight that Sonic could only describe as alluring, the light mystifying and something he'd love to have in his sky to sleep under. It was an odd thought that wasn't lost on him, wondering if the light gave him the feeling. But that wasn't important, as being considered a threat by strangers did not sit well with him.
"Well, if you're evil, then yeah. I'm a blue blur of a force to be reckoned with." He chuckled weakly, the response seeming calming her. She blinked and came closer, the glow growing stronger and Sonic knew for sure that it was affecting him now. The pain he had felt upon his head and back had seemingly vanished, as if healed in an instant.
"What are ya, some kinda comic book hero? That was cheesy." The blue horse spoke and came forward, giving Sonic a chance to notice her wings. Now that was a sight to behold, horns and wings making Sonic think that he had fallen into yet another story book, fantasy and magic seemingly all there could be.
"Hey, I can be cheesy all I want! I have to be with some of the drama queens and egg heads I've went against." Sonic snickered, slowly rising up to a sitting position. With this new angle, he got a better idea of his surroundings. The room he was in was covered in books, almost like the home itself was a library. He knew it was a house, however, seeing a bed and a few other things used for cooking and relaxing. But there were so many books that it couldn't be anything other than a library. It also seemed that the whole building was made out of a tree, reminding him of all the trees and houses created from villages he had once protected and raced through. His gaze then focused upon the creature he had found himself accompanied, getting a better idea of what they were. Horses looked nothing like this, their features more like small ponies. They looked incredibly close to Sonic and his friends, but they stood upon all fours. It was like a slight backstep from how he was, but it didn't bother him much. Except that they couldn't be apart of his world, so being with them bothered him a great deal.
He spoke again, a bit of worry in his tone. "This… isn't home. Mind telling me where I am?" The yellow pony came close, her eyes wide with wonder and excitement, yet it was the purple one that came to answer. "This is Ponyville… And I don't believe your near home in any regard… You had come falling from the sky and collided with my friend, Rainbow Dash..." Sonic raised a brow, thinking about how odd the name was. Then again, with people like Knuckles and Eggman about, he couldn't really judge. "She caught you, but not whatever else was falling…" Whatever else was falling? Sonic pondered for a moment before a deep shot of panic shattered his peace.
"Tails! Where is he?" In a blinding flash, Sonic had shot from the table and out the door, the wind blowing the ponies back. One certain pony fought against it at first, her eyes wide in shock. It was a speed she thought only possible in herself. As they gained their balance, shuffling away from the scattered papers and books the wind had knocked away, they were greeted by a second wave of disruption as Sonic's cry could be heard before a violent thud, the tree shaking once again. The ponies rushed out, seeing the hedgehog face first against the tree, groaning weakly.
"Are you okay?" The yellow pony asked, panicked as Sonic pushed himself off the tree and onto the ground. Sonic winced and held his side, looking down to see the bandages wrapped around him, thick slabs keeping his torso upright to a slight degree. A flash of that silver robot slamming down on his back came to mind and he groaned, peering at the ponies.
"I'm fine… Guess I'm worse for ware at the moment. I can't even run right." Sonic shrugged and slowly rose to his feet, looking at the three with a lazy gaze. "Listen… My friend fell here with me… I have to find him…" The yellow pony shook her head, frowning.
"Not when you're this wounded… U-Umn… I'm Fluttershy…" She introduced herself, then looked away. "We already looked... E-Even Rainbow Dash had covered ground looking for the other creature… but we just couldn't… A-And your back was almost broken so we had to d-deal with you first." She stuttered, giving Sonic the idea that her name wasn't just to be cute. But that wasn't as important as the fact that they said no to looking for Tails.
"Why can't we look. I won't leave him alone." Sonic said sternly, gritting his teeth. The purple pony came forward, bowing her head.
"Listen… My name is Twilight Sparkle… The one behind me is Rainbow Dash… If were going to find your friend, were going to have to let you heal first… My magic can only do so much… And your… ability seems to be unusable. If we have any chance to find him, it'll have to be until after we have you better… Plus two of our friends are searching currently from where you were falling. I promise… Your friend will be okay." Her voice was calm and caring, but also fearful. Sonic grimaced at the way they were handling the situation, wondering if the area around was so peaceful that missing people just wasn't that concerning. Then again, being a new creature to them probably didn't give them a reason to be fearful and concerned.
"I don't care if I have to walk... I'm still looking." Sonic said sternly and crossed his arms. Twilight sighed and shook her head.
"As long as you don't put pressure on that back and see me every day for a magic treatment, then you may walk… But before that… Who are you?" That's when the Rainbow Dash bolted forward, face to face with him.
"Yeah! What are you? You're like, crazy fast. That's gotta be some sort of magic right? I need to know!" Her voice was giddy and excited, like a kid who was on the verge of discovering the biggest secret in their world. Sonic shrugged and slowly waved his finger, crossing his foot in an iconic pose.
"No magic. Just skill and natural talent~. And you can call me Sonic. Sonic the Hedgehog~."
Within the overgrown wooded area, sparks would spasm and shoot from the murky swampy water. Slowly, a metallic blue head would begin to rise, sputtering and stopping every now and then as it struggled to move. After a little while, it would rise to its feet, revealing the damaged body of Metal Sonic. His eyes ran slowly along his screens, scanning his surroundings. It wasn't anything like the forest he was just kicked from, confirming he had fallen through the dimensional hole the machine created. This wasn't the plan, but not a failure. He had gotten Sonic away, as his mission demanded of him. Now he had to simply wait. There wasn't much else he could do, dented and snapped from his fall to the ground.
He wandered, getting away from the water and passing by the strange creatures, all to scared to come close as they had never seen a red eyed being like him before, his claw like hands more than enough to keep them away for fear of being shredded. Of course, that was the animals, and not the creature that the robot would find himself confronting as he discovered a hut, along with a being cloaked in a thick cloth, her voice caring a deep rhythm.
"Well well well, what do I see… Living metal, could it really be?" her voice hummed, taking a step closer. Metal stared without moving a muscle, his eyes flickering and dimming as his body struggled to keep powered on. "I can tell you're thinking, so don't fear or feel mixed… I promise to be fair, so come with me so you can be fixed."
Author's Note: This is a revamped and reimagined version of Chaos and Chaos. It's something I've wanted to do since my will to do my other stories is dulled and time has made things hard. Don't expect frequent updates and the like… But do enjoy what I put out as my first true story is retold. Little by little.
