"Anna, what do you know about love?" Elsa had asked her little sister the night of her coronation. She had known that man for only a day, so how on earth did she-? The Queen had never believed in love at first sight. That kind of love was impossible. Real life wasn't a fairytale...
She loved Anna. That's why she had chosen to live that kind of life, to protect her, to keep her safe. But now, she just couldn't understand. Why was her sister so eager to marry a man she had just met? Was it her fault? And then, something in Anna's eyes convinced her that she was right. Anna was really tired of waiting outside her sister's bedroom door, hoping that one day she would come out and spend time with her. Even if that was their parents' decision and not hers...Elsa sighed deeply. If it were up to her, then she would have never stepped out of her bedchambers. She was alone, yes, but it was the only way to keep all people around her safe. Her only way...
"More than you. All you know is shut people out!" The Princess replied in a defensive tone and instantly hated herself for hurting her sister. She'd always dream of her reunion with her sister; but her dreams included happiness, acceptance, love. She wanted her sister back, that's what she wanted with all her might. But, apparently, some things can't change at all.
What the young Queen dreaded most and didn't even dare to think of, was losing her sister. And now, she was really convinced that Anna hated her. Tears were in Elsa's eyes, but she tried to look brave.
"Please Elsa. I can't live like this anymore. Don't you see? Our parents are not here with us , you're my family. My only family. Please, I love him."
And then, that man looked back at Anna. He seemed surprised. But why? Didn't he know that she loved him? Or wasn't he sure about his own feelings? He looked back at Elsa, waiting for her answer. Tears welled up in Anna's eyes and Elsa couldn't bear it.
"Fine!" They both heard her say and Hans took Anna's hands in his, smiling back at her. "But know that. If you ever hurt my sister, you-" Hans cut her off.
"I ' d never hurt her, your Majesty. She's my everything"
Elsa didn't close the gates ever since that night, for her sister's sake. That smile on Anna's face every time she walked out of the castle, it was Elsa's reward. She didn't want to do it though, but her sister's fiancé insisted.
For Anna...
That's what she would always remind herself every morning she would get up and take her seat at breakfast table. It was really hard for her to just sit there and pretend that everything was alright. There were times she had caught Hans staring at her in a strange way, while talking to her sister at dinner. And, that made her feel uncomfortable. Did he know her little secret?
One day, she had walked into the throne room to find the young Prince gazing at her father's portrait.
"Prince Hans!" The red haired man turned around and cleared his throat before replying.
"Your Majesty" He bowed at her, trying his best to cover his shock with an easy-going smile. The Queen was smart. He had to be a little more careful with her.
"What are you doing here?" She raised an eyebrow at him.
Hans took a step back. "I- uh - I was just admiring that portrait. Your father was a great man. And King!" He said, trying to sound as nonchalant as possible.
Elsa sighed at that and closed her eyes. "He was, indeed. A great ruler, a great husband and a great father!" She almost choked on the last word and sniffed. She didn't mean to get emotional, let alone in the presence of a stranger, but she couldn't help it. Her childhood was tough, but despite that, she had had a lot of memories that she 'd not trade for anything. She looked down at her gloved hands.
Hans looked at her and wondered what kind of secrets she must have been hiding. He had to, if he wanted that throne. This Kingdom was his only chance. He smirked at the thought of making his brothers jealous of him, jealous of what he could accomplish.
"It must be really hard to run this kingdom on your own. And I really admire you, you know. I mean, not only you're doing a great job, but you're really beautiful as well!"
The Queen's eyes widened and Hans realized what he had just said. He could feel the heat rising to his face.
"I mean, Anna and you are both beautiful women " He corrected himself, avoiding eye contact with her. Oh God, what was wrong with him? He didn't mean to say that, but the words escaped his mouth before he had the chance to take them back.
"Queen Elsa, I just wanted to say that I love your sister with all my heart" He was standing now right in front of her.
"I'd do anything for her" He said, his gaze locking with hers. She was so beautiful, he thought to himself. He smiled at that. But wait, no? What was going on with him? She was a really beautiful Queen, he reminded to himself. Elsa averted her gaze from his. Those green eyes were just too dangerous to look at. Her sister was right; his eyes were really dreamy! He was so close to her by that point that their faces were just inches apart.
"Hans, where are you?" They heard Anna's voice and Elsa pulled back.
"Your Majesty I-" She didn't let him finish and walked out of the room. Luckily, Anna wasn't there and so Elsa walked to the end of the corridor and out of that Prince's sight.
The next day, Elsa didn't come down for breakfast. She decided to spend the rest of the day in her study, keeping herself busy with paperwork. But, she couldn't concentrate. Why could she not stop thinking about that incident in the throne room? What was going on? Hans was her sister's fiancé and she deserved to be happy. Besides, they didn't do anything wrong. But, most of all, why would he be interested in her? He was in love with Anna, wasn't he?
"She's my everything!" That's what he 'd told her.
"I 'd do anything for her!"
She exhaled deeply and walked to the window.
"There's no need to panic Elsa. Conceal, don't feel" She said and took off her gloves. She should have been more careful. If Hans finds out that she has ice powers, then... No, she couldn't allow him to tear them apart. Hans doesn't mean anything to her. And for Anna, she just have to accept the fact that he' s the new member of their royal family.
For Anna...
Late at night, the Queen of Arendelle took her way back to her quarters . That was another tough day. Being Royal, it wasn't that easy as her younger sister thought it was. Perhaps, Anna was right about one thing; she really needed a break. Once she was inside her bedroom, the first thing she noticed was that the curtains were open, allowing the moon to shine through. She frowned. Who would do such a thing? Maybe someone of the servants? Curious, she walked out on the balcony.
"There you are!" She heard that voice. The voice that haunted her thoughts.
