Lelouch Lamperouge stepped out of Ashford Academy. Lelouch started heading towards his home, but Kallen Stadtfeld walked up to him and tapped him on the shoulder. Lelouch turned around and asked, "Can I help you?"
Kallen sternly stared at Lelouch, while saying, "I'm not sure, but either way, I need to talk to you."
Suzaku looked back at Lelouch, while saying, "I'll see you later, Lelouch."
Lelouch replied, "Okay, Suzaku."
Suzaku waved to Lelouch and Kallen, before walking away. Kallen stared at Lelouch, while Lelouch made an innocent-looking smile. He asked, "What's going on, Kallen?"
Kallen folded her arms and replied, "Keep talking. I don't care what you say. I just to hear the sound of your voice."
Lelouch asked, "Is my voice really that soothing?"
Kallen replied, "Your voice reminds me of somebody I know. I need to make sure you and this friend of mine aren't the same person."
Lelouch (talking in his head): "Oh, crap. It appears Kallen caught on to me and Zero having similar-sounding voices. If I don't manage to deceive her, the game will be over. I can't let her sense that I'm concerned. I gotta remain casual and cool."
Kallen said, "Well, are you going to continue talking?"
Lelouch tried to look as calm as possible. Kallen kept glaring at him, while Lelouch said, "Kallen, I don't get what this is about. Are you playing some kind of game with me?"
Kallen said, "Let me ask you something, Lelouch."
Lelouch replied, "Shoot."
Kallen asked, "What does the name Zero mean to you?"
Lelouch's lips quivered a bit. Kallen noticed and a raised an eyebrow. Lelouch said, "Zero? Well, zero means nothing to me, of course. It has no meaning, no value, nothing of anything." Lelouch chuckled, which made Kallen look confused. Lelouch said, "This game, that you're trying to pull, is quite entertaining."
Kallen looked a bit annoyed, while asking, "Game?"
Lelouch said, "You're trying to mess with me, aren't you? Think you can confound my mind, with a bunch of random questions?"
Kallen observed Lelouch, while trying to determine if he knew more than he's letting on. She said, "Lelouch, Prince Clovis was a murdered by a man named Zero. That's why I was asking what you think of Zero."
Lelouch replied, "Well, killing is a deplorable act. Also, Clovis was a person of royalty, which makes the crime even worse."
Kallen said, "So, you feel sorry about what happened to Clovis and you think what Zero is doing is wrong?"
Lelouch tried to retain his anger. Kallen stared at him, while trying to pinpoint what emotion Lelouch was feeling inside of his head. Lelouch said, "This Zero character seems like a reckless vigilante, with a lack of moral values. Maybe he calls himself Zero, because he knows, deep down, that he's nothing."
Kallen replied, "I see."
Lelouch said, "So, have I talked long enough, for you to be able to tell if me and your friend are one and the same?"
Kallen replied, "Indeed I have. You two have a similar vocal tone, but it's not exactly the same. Besides, you and him are completely different, personality wise."
Lelouch said, "So, we're cool?"
Kallen took a long pause, before saying, "Yeah. Um, I'll see you around."
Lelouch replied, "Okay." Kallen waved goodbye. Lelouch waved back.
After Kallen was out of sight, Lelouch breathed a sigh of relief. Lelouch (talking in his head): "Kallen's smarter and more observant, than the people I usually associate with myself, but I was able to fool you. Still, I'll to be careful, when I'm talking to her, both as Lelouch and as Zero. I better do something, in order to make her think I'm not Zero."
Suzaku started walking around, while wondering if he should go to Lelouch's house, to find out if he's hiding anything. Suzaku (talking in his head): "Lelouch said he knows nothing about the green-haired woman. He's my childhood best friend, so I want to believe him, but I have to investigate this matter further. Lelouch was the only one with me, when the woman was released from the truck. Lelouch never even told me what he was doing there. I want to think the best of him, but before I can just forget about any possibility of Lelouch being guilty, I have to investigate his home. Hopefully, Kallen's keeping him busy."
Meanwhile, Kallen was in her dorm room, where she changed into a towel. She was about to head to the dorm's shower area, but she heard Lelouch's voice. She opened her room's curtains and looked out the window. She saw Lelouch being held by a guy, who was in a Zero costume. Kallen looked shocked. She was unaware that it wasn't the real Zero. It was a teacher, who Lelouch used his geass on. Lelouch had ordered the teacher to dress up as Zero and punch him in order to fool Kallen.
Kallen kept looking, as the fake Zero punched Lelouch in the face and kicked him around. Kallen had a confused look on her face, while asking, "Why would Zero be attacking Lelouch? He's a random college student. Well, Lelouch is Britannian and maybe he's discriminatory towards Japan. Regardless, it seems pretty clear that Lelouch isn't Zero. At least, that seems to be the case." Kallen was still surprised by what was going on. She wondered why Zero went to her college out of all the places he could go.
After a few minutes of punching, the fake Zero started running away. Kallen saw Zero running away, so she said, "Zero, it's me. It's Kallen! What's going on?" Kallen started getting closer and closer to the edge of the window. Kallen was so focused on Zero, that she wasn't being careful, which led to her falling out the window.
Lelouch had his back turned, so he wasn't aware that Kallen was falling. He had a smug smile on his face, while whispering to himself, "This was a great plan. There's no way Kallen could think I'm Zero after that trick I pulled on her." Lelouch heard a loud sound that was coming from some nearby bushes. He turned around and saw Kallen who had fallen to the ground. Lelouch thought to himself, "Did she fall down, because of me? I didn't mean to make that happen. I better see if she's okay." Lelouch walked closer to the bushes.
Kallen rubbed some leaves off her shoulders, while saying to herself, "Way to go, Kallen. Is there any way that you can make a bigger fool out of yourself?" Kallen looked down at herself and saw that her towel had fallen off. She heard the sound of footsteps. She knew that she had to get her towel back before somebody saw her naked body. Thankfully, her towel had fallen near her. She quickly picked her towel up and rewrapped it around her body. She tried to straighten her messy hair, while saying, "Hi, Lelouch."
Lelouch looked concerned, while asking, "Are you okay?"
Kallen said, "Um, yeah. I just saw Zero attacking you. I was curious and I'm afraid my curiosity was what my mind was focusing on, rather than my safety. Are you feeling okay?"
Lelouch replied, "Um, yes I am. Zero roughed me up. He's a lot stronger than I am, but I'm going to be okay. Do you need some help?"
Kallen said, "No, thank you. I better get out of here. I'll see you around."
Lelouch replied, "Okay."
Kallen got out of the bushes and started walking to the front door when she saw Shirley and Milly talking on the stairs. Shirley looked at Kallen, while saying, "Kallen, why are you in a towel, outside?"
Kallen figured she better not mention she was distracted by Zero, because she feared it might make them think she was one of Zero's supporters. She said, "I'm afraid I was being clumsy, and I fell out the window."
Shirley looked nervous and surprised, while saying, "Oh, my. Did you get hurt?"
Kallen answered, "Not really. I might be sick, but I'm tough."
Shirley said, "Well, let's get you inside. We don't need any creepy guys gawking at you."
Kallen scoffed and replied, "Too late for that. Lelouch already saw me."
Milly said, "How typical of Lelouch to be a creep."
Kallen replied, "Nah. He was just checking to see if I was okay."
Milly said, "Regardless, would you like to play a prank on him?"
Kallen looked amused, while asking, "What do you have in mind?" Milly grinned.
A few minutes later, Lelouch took a shower at the guys' dorm, because he was too stingy to pay for his water bill. After he finished his shower, he put on a towel and went into the changing area. To his surprise, Kallen and Milly were in the room. Lelouch looked a bit nervous and embarrassed, while asking, "What are you doing here?"
Kallen, who was wearing a bathrobe she got from Milly, said, "Payback time, Lelouch. You saw me in a towel, so this is only fair."
Lelouch replied, "It's not fair. I didn't stare at you to embarrass you. I was just seeing if you were okay, because you fell out a window."
Kallen started feeling a bit guilty, while saying, "You make a good point."
Milly nudged Kallen and said, "This is just a harmless prank."
Lelouch had an offended look on his face, while saying, "It's not harmless to my dignity."
Milly stared at Lelouch, while saying, "Wow, you have a really scrawny physique."
Lelouch angrily replied, "Get out of here!"
Milly smiled, while saying, "Alright."
After Milly walked out, Kallen looked at Lelouch, while saying, "I'm sorry, Lelouch, I shouldn't have listened to Milly."
Lelouch calmed down, while saying, "It's fine."
Kallen said, "Well, I better get out of here." The room had several puddles of water on the floor. Kallen was about to walk out of the room, but she started slipping because of the water. Kallen raised her eyebrows, while saying, "Ah, I think I'm about to fall."
Lelouch looked concerned, while saying, "Hold on, I'll help you." Lelouch stuck out his hand. Kallen tried to reach for Lelouch's hand, but she ended up falling on him.
Kallen and Lelouch had both fallen to the ground. If that wasn't bad enough, Kallen's bathrobe and Lelouch's towel had both fallen off. Kallen blushed with embarrassment, while saying, "I'm sorry." She quickly grabbed her bathrobe and walked out of the room. Lelouch was a bit flustered by what happened, but he didn't seem as embarrassed as Kallen.
The next day, Kallen, who was wearing a pink bathrobe, was drying her hair. She looked at a picture of her, Ohgi, and her late brother, Naoto, who were all smiling. A few minutes later, she heard a mysterious sound. She had a curious look on her face, while walking to her window and opening it. She looked around and saw Zero standing on top of a tree branch. She looked shocked to see him, while saying, "Zero, what are you doing here?"
Zero replied, "Kallen, I'm sorry for this sudden visit, but your help is desperately needed."
Kallen asked, "What's going on?'
Zero explained, "An important person has been kidnapped by a maniac. I have to save this person and bring the bad guy to justice. This isn't a mission, that I believe I can do by myself. I'd like your assistance."
Kallen replied, "I understand and I'm up to the challenge."
Zero breathed a sigh of relief and said, "That is great to hear. I've been expecting you to be the most reliable member of the Black Knights and you've lived up to that hype."
Kallen smiled proudly and said, "I'm honored to hear that, Zero."
Zero said, "Get on your Black Knight uniform and meet me at the amusement park." Kallen got on her uniform, while Zero climbed down the tree.
