Hopes Peak Orphans Chapter One
(Daiya's POV)
Alright I've got to get back home to the kids make sure you lock up when you leave, I tell my boys who are fixing some bikes in the back
Don't worry boss tell the little guys we said hi Paul replied to me I walk out the door to my Hog waiting for me outside who needs a car when you got the freedom of a motorcycle just feeling the wind in my hair it's like being free from all concerns and fears it's just you and your bike there is no better feeling it's what I tell my boys in the Crazy Diamonds when we ride we don't ride for any other purpose but to feel free I park my hog outside of the convenience store to pick up some things for dinner
Hello there Daiya just the usual the store owner asks me
Actually I was planning to make a chicken with salad so do you have any fresh yard birds I ask I better grab 2 and some fresh fruit and veggies perhaps I should grab some spuds for dinner as well hmm yeah I could probably do something with that
Well some fresh chickens have just come out of the oven there up the back she said
Thanks I replied going to the back of the store however I noticed a kid at the corner of the store he looks no older than 10 and I don't see his parents anywhere I take interest and start watching him he doesn't realize my presence and continues to wonder aimlessly around the store when he thinks no one is looking he attempts to put a can of corn in his jacket at that point I make myself known as I tap him on the shoulder he very literally jumps at my touch and backs away in fear hey kid why you hiding that corn you're not planning on taking it are you I question him with a stern look man why am I doing this to a kid I don't even know man looking after kids sure has changed me
No I was just grabbing it for my parents while they get a cart he says to me nerves clearly showing on his face reminds me a bit of Fugisaki but now is not the time to be thinking of that I need to help this kid I already got a feeling about this kid but I need to confirm my theory
Kid don't lie to me this place doesn't have shopping karts and we're the only people in this store so I'm gonna ask you again were you planning to steal that corn he looks down in shame and that's all I need what would your parents say if they saw you trying to shoplift I then see tears forming in his eyes
I don't know they're dead tears are starting to run down his face that confirms my theory he's is an orphan please don't call the police I don't want to go to a foster home there awful I see the fear in his eyes I don't blame him from movies that I've watched they depict orphanages and foster homes to be awful cruel places and unfortunately there is a somewhat lick of truth with some places but not all are as bad as Hollywood make them out to be
I won't call the police but I can't let you stay out here these streets are dangerous I see him look up at me to debate but I'm not going to give him a chance I want you to come with me to my home Hopes Peak Orphanage I promise you you'll be safe and happy what do you say he looks hesitant for a minute but eventually agrees
Alright mister I'll come with you not that I gave him a choice but at least he's willing to accept my help
That's good now come along I've got to pick up a few things we walk in complete silence as I pick up the supplies for dinner before something crossed my mind hey kid if you don't mind me asking what's your name and how old are you I was expecting hesitation but he seems more than happy to tell me
I'm Makoto Naegi and I'm ten years old Mr I'm guessing he wants my name
Daiya Daiya Oowada or you could call me big brother all the other kids at the orphanage do I tell him I want to make him comfortable with me before I take him back to the house we walk to the counter and I explain how he just lost his parents and came in to take some corn and that I would take him back to the orphanage she was sympathetic about his situation and we left the store I put the bags in the side car of my Hog and I told Naegi to get in the side car with the groceries I got on my hog and powered it on and took off I went slower considering my cargo but I was still able to get home in ten minutes once I was parked on the driveway I put the stand up and got the shopping off of Naegi and helped him out of the side car
Is this where you live he asks looking at my home it's a two story home with 7 bedrooms 2 bathrooms a decent size kitchen and a spacious living room even a small library which is just a room full of bookshelves with books I've acquired over the years and my office/garage while most people ask me why I would need this much space they need to remember I share this space with 15 kids well 16 now with the addition of Naegi
Yep now let's go in so I can introduce you to everyone I take his hand with my free one and we enter the home to a dogpile of children and my kitchen splashed with water and soaked towels on the floor.
