DISCLAIMER: I DO NOT own the Luigi's Mansion games or the Mario franchise. All that is owned by Nintendo. The only thing I own is my original characters and their backstories.

And for the first time...this is not a musical. There might be one song, but it'll either be in the ballroom or music room.

Enjoy!

~No One's POV~

The orange and yellow hue of the sunrise woke the birds as they started to sing their songs of praise. Some of the toads were getting up for a fresh new day, ready to see what was in store for them all. One, in particular, was delivering the mail to fellow toads and humans alike. He had plopped a few envelopes into his neighbors' mailbox and continued, passing along more mail as he went. He hummed a merry tune as the sound of closing mailbox doors provided the beat.

"What a lovely day," He said, finishing up the street he was on before heading into the Main Plaza.

There were already people walking around from shop to shop. Though it wasn't as many as it would have been if it weren't so early in the morning, it still surprised him nonetheless that a crowd had formed. However, he shrugged it off and headed to the next street. Hero Street. He started to plop some mail into mailbox after mailbox as he went down the street, still humming his tune.

Eventually, he made it to a green mailbox, with the letter L in a white circle on the lid. He smiled, reaching into his bag before pulling out a few white envelopes and a green one and then he stuck them into their new tin home. He closed the door to the mailbox before looking up to see the Man in Green walking out of his house. He smiled and waved before heading off to deliver more mail to more people.

Luigi just grinned and waved back as he went to his mailbox. He picked up the newspaper along the way. He grabbed his mail and headed inside, sticking the newspaper under his arm as he shuffled through bills and...

He looked at the green envelope, staring at the precise and neat handwriting that dressed this folded paper. What could this be? It wasn't his birthday. And if it was, Mario would get the cards, not him. But still, this made him curious. So he opened it up and pulled out the contents.

And what he saw surprised him.

~Luigi's POV~

"You what?!" Mario yelled over the phone, his surprise overwhelmingly high. I winced at the pitch of his voice as I held the letter in my hand, reading over the words one last time just to see if I had made any sort of mistake.

'Congratulations! You have been chosen in our newest contest as the winner of a brand new mansion! Details on the back.'

Was I going crazy? Or was my hope to be like Mario finally getting the better of me? Either one sounds plausible at this time.

"I'm telling you, Mario," I began, putting the phone back to my ear, "I won a mansion. I don't even remember entering this contest."

"Wow," Mario said. "Maybe someone entered you without you knowing."

"Maybe," I sighed, thinking of the one person who would have entered me into a contest like this. Granted, she hadn't been seen in a while, but still. "However, I'm not so sure about this win, Mario."

"If it'll help, I could always go up to check it out for you," Mario said, easing my worry and fear a bit. "I mean, if it is a scam, at least we'll know and you can stay where you are."

"Yeah," I said. "That would be great. Thanks, bro."

"Sure thing. Just fax it o-" He stopped as I hit the send button on the fax machine and just stood there. "You already had it ready, didn't you?"

"I did," I chuckled before I heard a scoff on the other end.

"Am I that predictable?" He asked.

"You can sometimes be."

After a while, we hung up and I took a few deep breaths. If this was legit, then I had a new home. I had a lucky streak brewing and who knew what else I'd get.

"Maybe Daisy?" I sighed, thinking that one over. That wasn't going to happen anytime soon. We broke up a few months back and I was still sore from her choice of words. But, she did apologize the day after, so I guess I shouldn't be hurt anymore.

But I guess I was.

It had been a few hours since Mario left for the mansion I supposedly won and there was no contact from him since. I was starting to get a little worried. But, when was that ever new with me? I was always worried and always afraid and scared.

But this...this felt different.

I looked back over the map that came in the letter and saw that the place the mansion was located in my least favorite place.

Boo Woods.

However, I was grateful that there were a few times I went into those woods with Eva. She always had a way of making me feel safe in scary situations. In case you didn't know, Eva was a girl I grew close to during our Senior year of High School. We've known each other throughout the years, but our same interests got us closer.

"Not recently though," I sighed, thinking back to a month ago.

I wonder how she was doing. And now that I thought about it, she did say last week that she was going to be living with her grandfather for the summer before college. I think she said he lived in Boo Woods.

I looked through my contact list on my Motorola flip phone and found her number quickly. Taking a few deep breaths, I dialed her number.

...

"Hello?" Her sweet voice answered after the second ring.

"Hey, is this Evelien Marcelli's number?" I asked. Though I knew that answer already. And it was confirmed even more when I heard her giggle on the other end.

At least she seems fine.

"Hey, Lu," She said, making me grin. She was the only one who called me 'Lu'. "What's up?"

"I was just wondering," I began, "are you still in Boo Woods with your grandfather?"

"Yeah, we are," She answered. "May I ask why?"

"I was just curious," I said. "Mind if I stop by? It has been a while since we've hung out." A pause was received, making me worry that I had said something wrong. I mean, I always do, but this felt worse. Especially after what happened last month.

Did I push too fast?

"I'm sorry. That was-"

"Sure," I paused, surprised. "I mean, you're right. We haven't hung out much this summer. It'll be nice to catch up. But I must warn you...things have gotten weird here."

"Weird how?" I asked.

"You'll see."
