Ben 10000: Future Imperfect

Prologue

Gwen looked at the spellbook nervously as she prepared to cast the spell that'd hopefully bring back her wayward cousin to his senses.

"You can't change the past." Professor Paradox warned, stepping out of a time portal.

"I'm not going to." She snapped back. "I'm going to pluck our younger selves from the past and bring them here. That won't change the present."

"But that would create an alternate timeline. A parallel reality."

"Oh please, there are already infinite realities in the multiverse out there. An extra divergent timeline won't make any difference."

"You'd be surprised." The elder man nodded mysteriously before opening his wristwatch and sliding back into the timestream.

The sorceress shook her head and dropped to a lotus position. The book hovered in the air, the various charms and totems all over her body lit up with arcane energies and her eyes shone in an eerie blue light as a wormhole opened in front of her.

She took one last look at her base of operations before flying through the portal.

Gwen really hoped this would work and bring back the Ben she grew up with, the hero who saved everyone including the villains… In all honesty, this was a last resort. If this didn't work, Ben was beyond saving and he'd need to be forced to give up the Omnitrix and his hero status. The other heroes across the globe were wary of Ben's rather extreme methods and it'd take just one more incident for them to tip over the edge and band against Ben. Ben was a hero, he sacrificed everything for the safety of the universe and the Omnitrix was a part of him… If that were to be taken away from him, Gwen had no idea what'd happen to him.

This was the only way. Creating an alternate reality was the last of her problems. All that mattered was saving her cousin before he stepped out of line again…

She wouldn't give up on Ben. She regretted not being there for him during his final battle with Vilgax… the battle that broke him and cost him everything. They lost so many people… so many friends, family and acquaintances to that fight and she wasn't there to help, thanks to being stuck in the Mirror Dimension for the better part of a year, courtesy of one of Charmcaster's curses.

She had failed her family once. She wouldn't again.

Gwen needed to remind Ben of what was important. Family. The reason they became heroes in the first place. Not to eliminate villains but to protect each other.

And who better to remind Ben of what was important than Ben himself?
