Loud Avatar
Chapter 1
The Cycle
No real explanation here. What you see in the title is what you're getting. Let's kick it up!
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
Fire. Air. Water. Earth.
Twelve years ago, Avatar Korra met her end while facing a group called the Vaatunians. When the cult of the dark spirit planted a bomb of spirit energy in the heart of the South Pole, the Avatar did manage to stop it. But at the cost of all of her own energy. As the world mourned, the cycle continued and the next Avatar was born in to the Earth Federation. This is his story.
Just outside of a small Earth Federation town called Royal Woods walked a young white haired boy clad in orange. This boy's name was Lincoln Loud and he was the exact middle child of eleven children. As such, it was very easy for him to feel lost in the fold.
That very day for example, his oldest sister, Lori had placed first in a golf tournament, his second oldest sister, Leni had gotten massive cheers at a fashion show in which his third oldest sister, Luna had provided the music, his forth oldest sister headlined at a local comedy club, his fifth oldest sister, Lynn had won her third strait Pro Bending tournament almost single handed, and his third youngest sister, Lola had one the lasted in a countless line of beauty pageants. Meanwhile his second and forth youngest siblings, Lisa and Lana had a patent pending for a new type of low cost car.
It at times felt to Lincoln as if the only reasons his fifth youngest sister, Lucy wasn't another daunting shadow for him was due to her hatred of the spotlight.
That was not to say there was nothing special about Lincoln. He was smart, a good planner, had a good deal of survival training, and was more than proficient with own Earthbending skills. But there was nothing in his life that he could call his calling. That was about to change.
As Lincoln continued his walk, he heard a small sound in the distance. His curiosity getting the better of him, he moved to where he caught site of a group of men holding a group of Tigerdillos in nets, one of the beasts which had a pure black shell and inverted white and orange fur to its streak.
"Ooh. This one's got some fight in it." One of the poachers said with a malicious grin.
"Makes it all the sweeter when we take its shell and fur." Another one of the men said.
"You have to stop them." Lincoln heard inside his head. Assuming it was his own thought, Lincoln quickly jumped out and preformed two acts of Earthbendign, one to put a wall between the poachers and the Tigerdillos and the other tow raise up and series of sharp stones to cut the beasts free.
"Hey! Get back here!" The lead poacher called out before he bent a hole in the wall.
"Oh no you don't!" Lincoln called out as jumped up and bent a diagonal pillar in to the man that he just barely managed to block.
"Get him!" The lead poacher said before he tossed a bolder at Lincoln which the wait haired boy shattered before he looked to see the man's team readying to shoot at him with shock gloves. He then quickly raised another rock wall to block the attempt from the shock gloves her pushed the wall out, one line at a time from the top down.
Lincoln's attack proved successful as the poachers were on the ground. All but one. Lincoln then felt an attack coming towards him from underground and pushed down hard in order to block it only for the poacher to jump up behind him with a spiked boulder above each of his hands. Time seemed to slow as Lincoln turned with little chance of defending the attack with his Earthbending. But thankfully for Lincoln, in that moment what he bent was not earth.
Throwing his hand out in a desperate defense, Lincoln and the poacher were both shocked as a large torrent of flame shot from Lincoln's hand and hit the man in the eyes.
'Did I just...' Lincoln began to think before he heard sirens. Deciding he didn't need this trouble on top of everything else, Lincoln elected to leave the area.
Several minutes of running, Lincoln found himself at the edge of a river. Finally able to catch his breath, Lincoln fell to his knees while looking down.
"There's no way. I couldn't be." Lincoln said to himself in a quiet disbelief.
"But you are." The voice in Lincoln's head replied, the boy now able to tell these were not simply his thoughts. But someone speaking to him and upon looking in to the water, he saw the face which the voice belonged to. A tan woman with shoulder length hair clad in a blue shirt, a brown leather jacket, and a Water Tribe wedding necklace depicting an eye inside of a gear.
"Avatar Korra." Lincoln said, in awe at the woman in the water.
"Don't be so formal. Kinda weird since you're talking to your self." The previous Avatar said, the two of them both chuckle.
"So I really am..." Lincoln led, gaining a nod from Korra.
"Yeah, kid. You're the Avatar. You gotta deal with it." Korra said with a cocky smile.
"This is pretty heavy." Lincoln said while rubbing his head before a thought came to him. "How are we doing this anyway? I thought it was supposed to take a ton of practice or being in a place that the last Avatar was close to in order them to talk to the current one." He pointed out.
"Well, you're pretty spiritually attuned. Plus the Spirit of Royal Woods'... woods was really good friends with Aang. So that probably helps." Korra explained, Lincoln shrugging in acceptance of her reasoning.
"So what do I do now? I'm pretty good with Earthbending. But not anywhere near a full on master." Lincoln said, not sure he was ready to begin learning Firebending.
"Let me fill you in on a secret. You'll never stop learning. Just adding to how much you can learn." Korra said.
"I guess you're right. Anymore advice before I go?" Lincoln asked.
"Just this. No matter how much power you've got. Always be willing to let your friends in." Korra replied in a kind tone before she took notice of something behind her successor. "Speaking of which." She said before Lincoln turned to see the Tigerdillo from earlier.
"I think I get it. This is my animal guide. Just like you had your Polar Bear Dog." Lincoln correctly guessed.
"The kid is smart." Korra said with a smirk. "Alright. I'll leave you to it and if you need me, I'll be there." Korra said before her image faded in to the river.
"Well come on, girl. We gotta go." Lincoln said before climbing on the back of the Tigerdillo. "I think I know just the Firebender for me to start learning from. We just need a ride to get to her." He said before the beast began to run with the Avatar guiding it.
Some time later, a beat up old van pulled up in the driveway of a two story house.
"So, nobody's seen him since we got to the restaurant?" A woman wearing a pink sweater, Lincoln's mother, Rita asked.
"No, he literally just vanished." A blue clad girl, the oldest of the Loud sibling, Lori said before a girl in overalls, the fourth youngest Loud, Lana took notice of something.
"Guys look." Lana said before Lincoln rode up. "Woah cool. a gold Tigerdillo! Where'd you find her!?" She asked before Lincoln told them about the poachers, making sure not to overload his family with his Avatarhood just yet, though his black clad sister, Lucy could tell that he was holding something back.
"By the way, I want to make sure that she's healthy. So maybe you could give me a lift to Great Lakes to see if Sid's mom can look her over?" Lincoln asked, getting an eager nod from Lori who Lincoln knew would take any excuse to see her boyfriend who lived in Great Lakes.
"Alright! We'll head out first thing in the morning!" Lori ecstatically said before she ran up stairs to pick out an outfit.
Later that night, Lincoln was packing a small bag when he noticed his Tigerdillo's ears perk up.
"You need to talk about something, Lucy?" Lincoln asked with a smirk as he turned around to see Lucy pouting that she wasn't able to scare Lincoln.
"Well, now that my fun has been ruined. Why do you really want go Great Lakes all of a sudden?" Lucy asked, knowing that Lana was more than good enough at veterinary studies to confirm the health of the Tigerdillo.
"Okay. I'll tell you. But you have to keep this between us." Lincoln said, gaining a nod from Lucy before he let out a deep breath and formed a small flame in his hand.
"No way." Lucy got out, her eyes widening behind her long bangs, the breath catching in her breath at the realization of just who her brother was.
"I know right?" Lincoln asked with a chuckle. "It's just too bad where I'm at in the cycle prevents me from learning from any of the Waterbenders in the family for while." He said.
"That's why you're having Lori take you to Great Lakes. You want to learn from Sid and Ronnie Anne." Lucy reasoned out, gaining a nod from her brother.
"I think it'd be better to learn from friends than some 'professional' who would just want the bragging rites of training the Avatar. It's how Aang did it, it's how Kyoshi did it, and it worked out pretty good for them." Lincoln said, Lucy having to agree.
"Well, I call dibs on training you in Waterbending when the time comes." Lucy said, a smirk coming over her usually gloomy face.
"Sure. But I think I'll have Leni teach how to heal. No offense. She's just really good at it." Lincoln said, Lucy shrugging in agreement to her brother.
"I get that. Anyway. I'll let you get some sleep." Lucy said before leaving the room and walking three doors down to the left on the hallway. "So, I'm guessing you heard all that." She said to a brunette girl with braces clad in white and yellow, the fourth oldest Loud sister, Luan.
"Yeah I did. Way to snake me out of dibs, by the way." Luan said with a pout.
"He needs to learn how to fight, not prank." Lucy said with a smirk on her face.
"You wanna see if you can back that up at the pool?" Luan joked back at Lucy. "Seriously though. I'd be happy to help train him." she said, Lucy nodding, knowing Luan's skills with Plantbending would mite serve Lincoln well.
Meanwhile in Lincoln's room, while the young Avatar's body was at rest, his mind was much more active.
Lincoln stood alone in a starry void the only things other than him was a broken chain of gems, and two links made of a sapphire and emerald respectively connected to a large pearl by a thread.
"You know what this is, don't you?" Lincoln heard from behind him before he turned to see Korra.
"It's us. All of us." Lincoln reasoned out. There had always been rumors that something had happened to Korra during one of her battles and clearly this had been the result.
"I spent so much time fighting. I always told myself I'd find a way to fix this. But time got away from me." Korra said, her voice full of regret. "Every Avatar hopes they'll be the one who doesn't leave behind a mess for the next one to clean up. But we always do and this is mine. She said while looking down.
"I wouldn't worry about that and I *am you." Lincoln said, the two Avatars sharing a laugh together. "It's probably just fate testing us somehow. Making sure the Avatar stays strong." He theorized.
"Hm. That's a good way to look at it." Korra admitted with her hand to her chin. "That good spirit and bright brain are gonna help you a lot." She praised.
"Thanks and I promise that I will find a way to fix our connection to the others." Lincoln said.
With that, Korra faded from site, leaving Lincoln alone to slip in to a void of silent rest to prepare his mind the beginning of his Journey as the Avatar.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
Well there you go, guys. I hope you enjoyed this and I hope it takes off. Next time, Lincoln will go to begin his training in the other elements in Great Lakes. Until then and as always... Keep on keeping on.
