I'm back with yet another book. Planned on finishing others before i would start something else but that only resulted in me not writing at all so i sad scre w it. This is a shorter chapter for the start. Enjoy :)
"Good morning, time to wake up." Robert said quietly as he got the hair out of Andy's face. When she didn't move he went and opened the blinds letting in the sun, that had been hiding for the last week behind the grey clouds Seattle knew all too well. Andy grunted as a response and covered her eyes with her hand.
"Come on Andy, the sun is out, you've been nagging at the weather all week." Robert said cheerful. With a sigh Andy rolled onto her back and opened her eyes slowly. "You look beautiful." Robert said with a smile, standing in front of the bed. Andy chuckled and shook her head slightly. "You're the only one who thinks so." She said sitting up against the headboard when she saw that there was already a tray with breakfast on the nightstand.
"Do you need anyone else to think that?" Robert asked, playing shocked. "Couldn't hurt could it?" she smirked. Robert shook his head laughing, sitting down on the bed he pulled her close to kiss her. "Okay-", Andy said a little breathless as she pulled back, "I need real breakfast." She scooped back and Robert put the tray in her lap before he sat next to her taking his Smoothie.
"Just a smoothie?" Andy asked looking at him skeptical before taking another spoon of cereal. "You already got that parent thing figured out." He teased her. Andy was too concentrated in her cereal and smoothie to counter back, so Robert took his book from the nightstand to read a few pages.
"Sooo, week 20, Your baby is now the size of a banana." He read out loud. "A Banana? What is it with all those food references." She shook her head, continuing to eat. "For dads references to ball sizes might be better." He said, already reading again. But Andy's laugh made him look up from the book again. "What?" he asked confused. "Ball sizes?" she asked still laughing. "Oh my god Andy! I meant sports balls." He face palmed himself playful.
"But I see what's occupying your mind." He smirked. Andy didn't reply but with a sly grin she put the tray on the nightstand, then reached over taking his glass and book out of his hands and put it down before she straddled him devouring into kisses.
Robert was walking around downstairs waiting for Andy as they had to leave soon but as per usual she was taking her time getting ready. He decided to go back upstairs and see what's taking her so long.
"You almost ready?" he asked peaking his head into the room. "No I don't know what to wear." She said agitated. "Just take a shirt and throw it on honey, we need to leave if we don't want to be late. "But- but I need a tight one but the only tight ones I have are sport shirts and that won't work for a doctor's appointment." She said annoyed.
"Why does it have to be a tight one Andy? Come on, the one you have on right now looks great so let's go." He complimented her, hoping to get them going but Andy started crying instead. "I- what's wrong now?" he asked trying his best not to sound annoyed even when he was a bit, he reminded himself it were all the hormones.
"I wanted to surprise you with this." Andy pulled up her shirt but Robert was confused. "I'm finally showing and I wanted to show it off in something tight." Robert wasn't sure what to say, Andy had been eager to finally be showing but she still wasn't, her stomach looked as flat as the day before, maybe a little bloated.
He contemplated telling her but decided not to upset her further for now. He pulled her close instead. "That's amazing babe, now we have to go though to check on the little one and if you want, after we can go and buy you a tight shirt alright?" he said in that sweet tone that got Andy every time.
"Okay, then what are you waiting for? Let's go! We're going to be late." She said and hurried out of the room. Robert chuckled, she liked to do this every time she was late.
"Okay the baby looks great. Would you like to know the gender?" Dr. Wilson asked. Both nodded eagerly. "It's a girl." Dr. Wilson smiled as on both their faces wide smiles appeared. She held out paper towels for Andy who wiped off the gel and sat up. "Okay last thing, I need to check your blood pressure." Andy rolled up her sleeve for Dr. Wilson to take the blood pressure.
"It's a little elevated. Have you been stressed lately?" she asked. Andy thought while rolling down her sleeve again. "The last shifts were quite busy, so it's probably that." She concluded. She was only on Aid car but a lot of the times aid car was getting more calls than engine or ladder so it could get quite hectic.
"Yea that's possible, for now I am not worried, it's just slightly elevated but let's make an appointment for next week and we'll just check it again." Dr. Wilson suggests. "Alright." Andy agreed. "And there's really nothing to worry about?" Robert asked who of course was already worrying.
"For now, No. Stress can elevate it, so just try to take it easy and I'm sure it's back to normal next week." Dr. Wilson assured him. "Okay, thank you." Robert said, but Andy knew he would get to another level of protectiveness now. "See you next week." Andy and Robert made an appointment for next week before they left.
As promised Robert took her to shop for some tight shirts after the appointment. He was waiting outside the changing room when Andy came out to present one. "Oh wow." He said surprised. "What?" she laughed. "Honestly, earlier... I thought you weren't showing and just bloated but I guess you are showing." He said trying to control his facial expressions knowing Andy wouldn't like hearing what he just said.
"You thought that was just bloat?" she laughed to Robert's surprise. "Don't you think I knew if I was just bloated." She chuckled and Robert was relieved he didn't cause her next breakdown. "Clearly I should have trusted you." He stated.
Andy tried on the other shirts and Robert was happy to get home when she was finally done but instead of heading to the cashier Andy pulled him into another direction. "Don't you think it's still a little early for that?" He asked as Andy pulled him into the baby section. "It's never too early to take a look around." She smiled and quirked her eyebrows. In the end Andy couldn't resist and she bought a onesie and a little hat. Afterwards they had some food before they headed home.
"Andy! You can come down." Robert shouted from downstairs. He made Andy wait while he prepared a little cozy evening. As Andy came down she smiled at what he had prepared. Finding Dory was on TV, ready for them to watch, blankets and pillows on the couch with a few candles and a number of different snacks he prepared on the couch table. It was nothing special, but exactly what she needed.
They got comfortable on the couch together. "So one thing before I start the movie. I've been thinking after the appointment today and maybe you should go on desk duty, at least until we know for sure that everything is okay." Robert suggested, ready for her to fight back. Andy cuddled in his arm contemplated as desk duty wasn't an option for her but she learned she had to make compromises to make them both happy.
"Let's say I can go on X calls a day, and the other calls someone else will cover for me." She suggested, tilting her head up to see his reaction. "Hm, what number were you thinking about?" he asked. "I don't know, but we could discuss that tomorrow morning or? I would love to watch Dory now." She grinned like a child. She wasn't trying to dismiss the issue but it didn't need to be solved this evening and she just wanted to have a nice evening with him before shift tomorrow.
"Okay." He kissed her temple and started the movie. Since Andy's pregnant she always wanted to watch Kids movies, him not so much. He figured they would watch enough of those in the future but he did it for her anyways.
Mid movie Andy suddenly grabbed his arm. "What did you get scared of the sharks?" he chuckled. "No, I-", her eyes wandering around as if she's searching for something in the room but she wasn't. "Is something wrong?" Robert started panicking.
"No no no." Andy said immediately. "I think she's moving." A little smile formed as she wasn't a hundred percent sure if that was what she was feeling but she didn't dare to move. "She is?" Robert asked excited. "I think so, there's like a little bit of pressure and it's kind of tickling here." Andy took his Hand and put it on her stomach were she felt the movement.
"I don't feel it." Robert said a little disappointed. "You don't? Maybe it's not her moving then? What if it's something else?" she asked worried but Robert took her into a hug. "It's not Andy, that's exactly how it's described in the book and I also read that in the beginning you can't feel the movement from outside." He told her. Andy sighed relieved. "Maybe I should let you read that book to me more often." She chuckled. "I always try." He laughed. "Next time I don't want you to, remind me of this moment okay?" she asked. "I will, I promise."
Andy relaxed back into his arms and couldn't stop smiling while she tried to bring her focus back to the movie. Robert left his hand on her stomach, he couldn't wait for her belly to be big and round.
