A/N – So welcome to the new addition to my writing collection, this will be a Chicago fire based story but with the Chicago PD and Chicago Med teams involved, hopefully you will enjoy this story as it has so many twist and turns, like a game of Twister, you'll be disappearing rapidly into the abyss. So on with the show, sorry story.
Georgie Powell-Voight sat in the headquarters of the CFD waiting for the results of her testing to become a fully qualified and certified paramedic if this didn't work out she could always go work with her dad at district 21, but alas being a paramedic was Georgie's goal and dream. Being a paramedic would open doors and opportunities for her and her family, you see Georgie was a single mom to twins Abigail and Alexander, the twins doted on their mom and she on them.
At the age of eight Abigail and Alexander were excited for their mom to become a paramedic, they were just as excited many years ago when they first met their Grandpappy Hank, he was a Sergeant of the Intelligence unit after all, they didn't really have much else to get excited about, their dad was absent from their life, they only had their mom and Hank.
"Hey you been waiting long?"
"Oh about ten minutes, where's the kids?"
"Halstead took them to the park, swings and slides are not my thing Georgie"
"Hank? You didn't force him into it? You know the Voight glare"
Hank looks hurt but smiles "No he volunteered"
Georgie nods "Yeah right!"
Hank smiles and settles in the seat beside Georgie "So what time did they say you'll be called through?"
Georgie takes a look at her watch "Any time no..."
"Georgie Powell-Voight?"
Georgie stands and walk towards the women who called out her name, Georgie looks over her shoulder "Wish me luck Hank"
"Good luck but you won't need it, you've got this"
Georgie nods and smiles and blows out a breath she didn't know she was holding and walks down the corridor to stand outside the office of Chief Royal, she knocks on the door and enters when called, Georgie stands in front of Chief Royal, he smiles at her "Please take a seat Miss Powell-Voight"
"Yes Chief, thank you Chief"
Chief Royal shuffles the paperwork sat on his desk in front of him and smiles "Well done on passing all assessments and completing your field work, you've had nothing but praise from those you have worked with. So without further ado I would like to welcome you to the CFD, congratulations Georgie"
"Oh my? Really Chief?" Georgie smiles a hundred watt smile and takes Chief Royal's hand giving it a shake "You don't know how much this means to me"
"Actually I do"
"Chief?"
"Ahh I've been rumbled" Chief Royal stands and gestures Georgie to the bookcase in his office "I knew your mother in my younger years, we were in the same class"
Georgie smiles at the photo "I knew she was part of the CFD in some way but I didn't know she was a firefighter, Chief Royal what exactly happened to my mom?"
Chief Royal sat back in his chair "She was a single mom just like you, she became a firefighter to give you a stable home, she was a outstanding firefighter, just as you'll be an outstanding paramedic I'm sure. When you were four tragedy stuck, she was in a building that without warning flashed over and collapsed, your mom and several others from the same company perished. I tried to find your father but he point blank refused to acknowledge your existence"
"Sounds familiar, history repeated itself with me and my twins"
Chief Royal nods and continues "Yes but that's when Hank stepped in, he took you in and raised you, so from the age of four Hank Voight was your father figure"
Georgie nodded "Yeah he was, since he lost Camille and Justin he's been so invested in me and the kids, it's nice but boy he needs to back off sometimes, over protective much"
"Henry is probably so protective because he's lost Camille and Justin, you're all the family he's got"
Georgie laughs "Don't let him hear you calling him Henry" Georgie then sighs "I guess you're right, he doesn't even have contact with Erin anymore"
Chief Royal stands and hands Georgie the photo of her mom and himself to her "Chief I couldn't possibly"
"Nonsense, now after the little reminiscing would you like to know where you'll be assigned?"
Georgie giggles "Of course, would be a good idea"
"I thought as much" Chief Royal hands the paperwork to Georgie "I know Chief Boden you'll be absolutely welcomed there, 61 is your rig if you want it?"
Georgie looks up from the paperwork and raises her eyebrows "Really Chief? Daft question really"
Chief Royal nods, smiles and walks to his office door "Good luck Georgie, Wallace Boden expects you at eight am Friday morning"
"Friday? Friday morning?"
"Problem?"
"Yes...no well I'll have to get someone to watch Abigail and Alexander, kids are off school at the moment"
Chief Royal smiles "I'm sure Hank will watch them"
Georgie giggles and walks out the office back down the corridor to find Hank wearing a hole in the carpet as soon as he spots Georgie he stops pacing "So?"
"You're now looking at a fully qualified and certified paramedic, I've been assigned to 61 at Firehouse 51 with Wallace Boden as my Chief"
Hank nods his head in approval "I approve"
Georgie smiles and hooks her arm through Hank's and walks towards the door "Lets go rescue Halstead"
Hank's phone started to ring "Go on ahead I'll catch up"
Georgie walked towards her SUV and headed towards the park not far from District 21, once at the park she finds a spot and parks, as she approaches where Jay was with Abigail and Alexander she can't help laughing, Jay is running around the park a scarf wrapped around his forehead and yelling at the top of his lungs 'Ahoy maties'.
Georgie stands and watches her kids running around and laughing and hugging Jay, Georgie then has the idea to ask Jay about looking after the twins.
"Mom"
Georgie smiles as her twins run at her "Hey guys, hi Jay"
"Hey G, you ok? How did it go?"
Georgie sits at a park bench, Abigail sat on her right, Alexander on her left and Jay crouched down in front of her "Well I got to headquarters and had a lovely cup of tea and biscuits"
Abigail groaned "Mom!"
Georgie giggled "Ok your looking at a fully qualified and certified paramedic I start firehouse 51 Friday morning"
"Yes!" Abigail and Alexander shouted with glee, Abigail then looked at her mom "But we're not at school Friday"
Georgie nods and smiles at Jay "I was hoping that Jay wouldn't mind watching you?"
"No problem with me G, means I can take them to Navy Pier"
Alexander gasps "You haven't forgotten your promise to us"
Jay shook his head and patted Alexander and Abigail's legs "I'm not in the habit of breaking my promises Alex"
Georgie smiles "Thanks Jay, without you and Hank the past few years I wouldn't have even got where I am now"
"That's what friends are for G, but right back at you, you were there for me when Erin up and left"
"Come play with us Jay"
Georgie nods, Jay smiles and runs off with Abigail and Alexander, Georgie stays at the bench and smiles as Hank approaches.
"Sorry important phone call couldn't wait"
"Grandpa Hank, come play with me"
Hank laughs "Just a minute little lady" Hank looks down at Georgie "Like her mother so demanding"
"You wouldn't change it for the world, what would the criminals of Chicago think of the badass Hank Voight being a big softie to his Granddaughter called Abigail Camille Powell-Voight?"
Hank shrugs his shoulders and walks towards the swings pushing Abigail on the swings smiling from one ear to the other, Alexander runs towards his sister and Hank, Jay walks over to Georgie and sits beside her "Where do they get their energy from?"
"Aww you getting old Jay Halstead?"
Jay gently punches Georgie's arm "Shut it!"
Georgie giggles and places her hand on Jay's arm and smiles watching Hank run around the park, Jay couldn't help smiling at his boss either "You know those kids are the best thing that happened to him, since Olive moved away with Daniel"
"I know Jay, how's your new partner Hailey?"
Jay groans "You had to ask? Working together fine but I think she likes me as more as work partners, if you know what I mean?"
Georgie laughs "She wants some of the Jay man?"
"Yeah not interested"
"Jay it's been two years, Erin isn't coming back she told you this"
Jay sighs and grabs Georgie's hand "I know I was going to propose and everything"
Georgie sighs and turns to Jay "I know Jay, she dumped everyone without notice. Why do you think the kids are thrilled you keep your promises to them?"
"What did Erin do?"
"She promised to take them swimming and then out for food, she never showed up, no call or text. She is their Aunt Jay, you're no relation to them and you do so much with them"
"G you're my best friend of course I'm going to do things with the kids"
Georgie smiles and hugs Jay "I know and thanks"
"Anytime"
Alexander, Abigail and Hank walk up to the park bench, Jay and Georgie stand up and they all go towards their cars, Jay and Hank wave Georgie off in her car, Hank turns and looks at Jay "I'm watching you Halstead, you were with one of my girls I'm not having you go after my youngest"
Jay holds up his hands in defence "Georgie's my best friend I'm not in the habit of upsetting your daughter"
"She's my girl, you hurt her I'll hurt you"
"Sarge I will never hurt Georgie, Abigail or Alexander I'm not Erin!"
Hank nods and gets into his car, Jay does the same.
The following morning whilst at work Jay's phone vibrated letting him know a text came through.
Hey Jay you at the district? The kids made something for you and want to give it you.
Jay smiles Hey G yeah get Trudy to buzz me when here I'll come down and get you.
Not a problem see you soon.
Jay looked up from his phone to find Hailey hovering and smiling at him "Hey Jay, that your girlfriend?"
"Upton seriously give it a rest, I'm not interested"
"Are you gay?"
"Excuse me?!"
"I said are you gay?"
Jay sighs loudly "No I'm not gay, just not interested in you"
"Ok, but Jay you'll eventually fall into my arms and never look back"
At that point Jay's pager buzzed indicating a message from Trudy "Aah saved by the buzz"
Hailey's mouth drops open wide before she glares at Jay "Rude!"
Jay looks over to Kim who's turning the shade of a beetroot "Did I say that out loud?"
Kim nods "Yes you did"
Jay runs his hand over his face and groans "Damn it! Be right back"
Everyone in the Bullpen watched as Jay jogged down the stairs and out of the unit, Jay smiled when he saw Georgie, Abigail and Alexander stood beside Trudy Platt's desk.
"Chuckles?"
"Sarge, hey guys"
Abigail smiles "Hi Jay, we made something for you"
"Ooh what is it?"
Alexander giggles and rolls his eyes "Open the box silly"
Trudy and Georgie snort with laughter as Jay approaches the box, he lifts the lid to find a cake filled with butter cream strawberry jam and covered in blue, white and red icing.
Jay looks up from the box and smiles "What did I do to deserve this cake?"
Alexander takes in a deep breath "We made you this cake because you're always there for us, you take us to the park, you take us on outings, you help mom with us, Jay you're great!"
Jay wiped at a tear "Thanks buddy, thank you Abi"
Abigail smiles "You don't share it" Abigail looks up at Trudy "Well maybe Sergeant Platt can have a slice and Grandpa but no one else"
Jay salutes Abigail and looks at Georgie and whispers in her ear "She's at it again!"
"Well tell her your not interested"
"I did and she asked if I was gay!"
Georgie burst into giggles, Trudy raised an eyebrow "Sharing is caring Chuckles"
"Fine! Upton keeps flirting with me and I'm not interested, because I said no for the umpteenth time she asked if I was gay, which I'm not"
Trudy smirks and then points at Jay and Georgie "Simple solution, you two pretend to be dating"
Georgie coughs in shock "Trudy Platt?"
Jay smiles and nods "That could work, come on let's get up to the bullpen, bye Sarge"
Trudy waves a hand over her head and then smiles, she'd love to be a fly on the wall when Voight found out, he was always protective of Erin and Georgie, but with Erin not even in Chicago or acknowledging that Hank existed, he'd become extremely protective of Georgie over the years, even more so after the adoption came through when Georgie was six years old.
You see at that time Hank and Camille took in Georgie at four years old they had their seven year old son Justin and ten year old adopted daughter Erin. Justin and Georgie being closer in age were closer than what Georgie and Erin were, but as Georgie got older all three Voight children were inseparable, but alas when Georgie was ten tragedy struck again, her second mom in her life passed away from her long battle with Cancer.
At aged fifteen Georgie lost her brother Justin, he was murdered and left his wife and new born son, now two years ago although Erin was in New York and getting on with her life it still felt like a loss to Georgie.
Walking into the bullpen with her arm hooked through Jay's everyone's eyes were on them, Kim being used to this display stands from her desk opens a drawer and walks over to Georgie and Jay, Kim hands Alexander and Abigail are chocolate bar and smiles at Georgie.
"Hi Georgie, you OK?"
Georgie nods and smiles "Yes thanks, those two keep me on my toes"
Kim smiles "Maybe it's time for a junk food filled movie night?"
Jay responds first "Not too much junk food mind you"
Georgie smiles and rolls her eyes at Jay "I've come to the conclusion that what ever happens in Kim's apartment, stays in the apartment. Jay I trust Kim with the kids"
Kim nods "Yes best girlfriend here"
Hailey walks over to Georgie and holds out her hand, Georgie looks down at the hand and walks away, Hailey glares at Georgie and then smiles at Jay, Jay rolls his eyes and walks over to Georgie, Kim, Kevin and Adam.
Jay whispers in Georgie's ear "I'm going to launch myself out of the nearest window if she keeps undressing me with her eyes"
Georgie looks into Jay's eyes and then whispers in his ear "Kiss me then!"
Jay looks at Georgie in complete shock but then nodded, he made sure Alexander and Abigail were distracted and then leant in, everyone in the room stood open mouthed, well everyone apart from Georgie and Kim, Kim was smiling until Hank Voight walked out his office and pulled Jay away from Georgie.
Georgie stood still for a few moments before running after Hank and Jay, Jay being dragged down the corridor. Hailey looked around the bullpen Adam, Kevin and Antonio stood confused the only one who didn't seem confused was Kim.
"Ok Burgess spill it, why do you not seem shocked about Voight with Halstead?"
"Not for me to say, Adam will you help me with Alexander and Abigail?"
Adam nods "Sure, where too?"
Alexander looks up at Kim "Can we go get something to eat?"
"Ooh then can we go park?"
"Let me just text your mom and Voight OK?"
Alexander and Abigail nod and stand by the steps in the intelligence unit, Kim sends off two texts and gets a thumbs up reply from Georgie and a sole letter K from Voight, Kim waved bye to Kevin, Antonio and Hailey and grabbed the hands of Alexander and Abigail, as they approached the desk of Trudy she stood tall hands on hips and eyebrows raised looked at Kim.
Kim shook her head and smiled, walking out of the district and heading towards the nearest restaurant, meanwhile in one of the interrogation rooms Jay was sat in the chair staring at Hank Voight pacing.
"If you'd..."
Voight glares at Jay "I suggest you keep your mouth shut or you'll be eating your food through a straw"
Georgie arrived and pounded on the door "Voight let me in"
"Go away Georgie!"
Georgie growls and yells from a top of her lungs "DAMN IT DAD, LISTEN TO ONE OF US AT LEAST!"
Hank stops pacing and looks at the closed door and then Jay "Georgie go away!"
"I SWEAR TO GOD IF YOU HURT A HAIR ON HALSTEAD'S HEAD, SO GOD HELP YOU DAD!"
Hank sighed and opened the door allowing Georgie in, he then shut the door again and growled as Georgie examined Jay's head, after a couple of minutes of inspection Georgie nods and turns to Hank.
"You have to learn to control yourself when it comes to me dad"
Hank sighs "You haven't called me dad in many years, its nice"
Jay interrupts "As nice as seeing you two bonding I'm kind of attached to this desk, can you uncuff me?"
"Dad!"
Hank just shrugs and walks over to Jay "There best be a reasonable explanation for you kissing my daughter in the bullpen?"
"Hailey" both Jay and Georgie replied at the same time, before giggling at each other, stopping at the glare from Hank.
"Sorry dad"
Jay nods "Yeah sorry Sarge, you see Upton's been flirting with me continuously and after she accused me of being gay, Sergeant Platt suggested that me and G act as boyfriend and girlfriend, maybe should have told you"
Georgie rolls her eyes "You think?"
"Would you feel better with a different partner? Burgess perhaps?"
Jay nods enthusiastically "Anyone but Upton please Sarge"
Hank nods "Ok starting from next shift, Rusek and Upton together you and Burgess. Now get out of here oh and Halstead I'm watching you"
Friday morning came to quickly for Georgie, Alexander and Abigail were at Jay's apartment so this left Georgie on her own, she stood in the full length mirror smoothing her uniform down and contemplating how to do her blond locks, eventually she decided a simple ponytail would do. Checking her work duffle for the twenty-fourth time in the past hour she was ready for her first shift at Firehouse 51 and on 61.
Georgie pulled off her driveway and put on her radio and listened, driving along several roads twenty minutes after leaving home she found herself sat outside 51, staring at it through the windscreen of her SUV, taking in a deep breath Georgie got out of her car and started the walk up the apron and smiled when she spotted 61, walking over she tapped 61 and walked further into the apparatus floor, there she found Kelly Severide beside Squad three.
"Hi I'm Georgie Powell I'm the new paramedic for 61, could you possibly show me where Chief Boden's office is please?"
Kelly smiles "Sure follow me"
Georgie follows Kelly inside and smiles at her surroundings "So you are?"
Kelly grins "Lieutenant Kelly Severide, Squad three's Lieutenant"
"Nice to meet you Lieutenant"
"Just call me Severide"
Georgie nods "Thanks"
Kelly knocks on the office of Boden, Boden waves them both in and smiles as Georgie looks around his office, Kelly also smiles but then coughs to get Georgie's attention.
Georgie looks between Boden and Kelly "Ooh sorry, morning Chief"
Boden grins "Morning Georgie, I spoke to your dad this morning, he sends his best"
Georgie groans "Fantastic the guy needs to back off, I'm twenty-seven years old for goodness sake. What else did the old man have to say?"
Boden keeps grinning "Just good luck oh and he said you'd have this reaction"
Georgie rolled her eyes "Did he now? I'm going to bury him where no one can find him!"
Boden just nods "I see you've met Lieutenant Severide, who can show you around 51. Welcome to 51 Georgie"
"Thank you Chief and sorry about the rant"
Boden nodded and Georgie and Kelly walk out the office and walk towards the locker room on arrival Kelly hands Georgie the masking tape and permanent marker.
"So who's your dad? It got you really wound up"
Georgie sighs "Sergeant Hank Voight is my dad"
Kelly nods "I see, could have been worse you could have had my dad"
"Benjamin Severide firefighter and finished his career in arson investigation"
"Wow, you know your history"
"My mom was a firefighter around the time Benny was in the service"
Kelly nods "Where's your mom now?"
"She died when I was four, did you ever hear about the Warehouse fire in North Wacker that killed six firefighters?" Kelly nodded "My mom was one of those firefighters, her crew wouldn't leave her so they all died, my mom was called Alex Powell, my dad didn't want anything to do with me so Hank and his wife Camille took me in and they say the rest is history"
"Even though it was twenty-three years ago, I'm sorry Georgie"
Georgie smiles "Thanks Severide" Georgie searches through her duffle "Damn it!"
"What? You ok?"
"Yeah just left my padlock at home, fudge monkeys!"
"Fudge monkeys?" Kelly smiles and disappears briefly "Here I have a spare use it"
Georgie smiles "Thank you Severide"
"Call me Kelly all my friends do"
Georgie nods puts her bag in her locker shuts it, attaches the padlock and then writes her name on the strip of masking tape, turning and smiling at Kelly she follows him on the rest of the tour of 51, at seven fifty-six they both walk into the briefing room, Georgie stops and sees everyone staring back at her, Kelly drags her into the room and pushes her towards Boden, Kelly and Georgie smile at each other, Boden looks at Georgie and then the rest of 51.
"Morning everyone, stood next to me is our new Paramedic Georgie Powell, please welcome her as I know you will. Be vigilant and its second shifts turn for cleaning" They all moan "I know, Squad three you have the apparatus floor, Engine you have the common room and bullpen, Truck you have the windows and 61 you have the bunkroom and showers and toilets, now Georgie will introduce herself so listen please"
Georgie smiles at Boden and then looks around the room "So as Chief Boden kindly introduced me, I'm Georgie Powell, I'm twenty-seven and new to the role of a paramedic and new to the CFD but don't let that fool you I can kick anyone's ass if they get on the wrong side of me, sorry I'm rambling moving on!"
Boden smiles and nods pointing at Georgie "Your dad also said you'd do that"
Georgie groans "Anything else he said or am I going to learn this throughout the shift Chief? Might as well get it over with I'm surprised he's not stood in the briefing room with us lecturing you all, always been an over protective arse!"
Kelly moves from the back of the room and drags a ranting Georgie out of the briefing room and onto the apparatus floor next to Squad three.
"Georgie? Georgie?"
"God he's always been like this, never let's me be..."
Everyone is now on the apparatus floor watching Georgie ranting to herself and Kelly trying to get her attention.
"GEORGIE!"
Shouting her name didn't work so Kelly lifted Georgie in a fireman's lift, opened Squad three and dumped her in it before closing the door again, he looks over at Sylvie and Stella who were giggling, they both approach and stand beside a quiet Squad three and Kelly.
"What's that all about?"
Kelly holds up his hands "Not for me to say, excuse me a moment"
Kelly opens Squad three to find Georgie sat with her arms across her chest and smiling "You finished?"
"I hate you Kelly Severide!"
Kelly shuts the Squad door again and walks away, not before Georgie escapes from the other side and jumps out and makes him jump.
"Jesus Christ!"
Georgie giggles "Now I'm finished"
Kelly shakes his head and points at Stella and Sylvie and introduces them "This is Stella Kidd my girlfriend and Sylvie Brett your partner on 61, excuse me while I go change my underwear"
"Hey girl I've never seen anyone scare Kelly so much, I can tell we're going to get along great"
Georgie smiles "Hi Stella nice to meet you, not forgetting you Sylvie"
Sylvie smiles "Hi, want a tour of our rig before the bells?"
Capp pops his head around Squad three "The bells, the bells"
Georgie bursts into giggles and lays her head on Stella's shoulder "Oh my god who's the idiot?"
Stella points at the firehouse idiot "That would be Harold Capp, the firehouse clown"
Sylvie shivers "Urhh clowns"
"You don't like clowns Sylvie?"
Sylvie shakes her head "Nope"
"Noted, right tour of 61?"
Sylvie and Georgie have a look around 61 and are about to go into the common room when the bells signal a shout.
Ambo 61 well-being check 5121 Duty house.
Sylvie and Georgie head off to their well-being check, Stella goes to find Kelly she knew he knew something about Georgie and she wanted to know, she found him in his office.
"Hey why do I get the feeling you know something about Georgie that nobody else knows? Come on Kelly spill it"
"No not happening Stella, not for me to tell, that is up to Georgie"
"Oh come on I'm your girlfriend"
"That's true, but the answer is still no!"
"Fine but I will find out, I'll go ask the Chief"
Kelly nods his head "Yeah good luck with that, he's gone to headquarters"
"Damn it!"
Kelly grins and watches as Stella walks out of his office and sits on her bunk, twenty minutes later Sylvie and Georgie returned from their well-being check looking a little worse for wear.
"What the hell happened to you two?"
"Don't ask"
"Well actually he did so?"
"Georgie? Don't even go there"
"Well all considering that was an interesting first shout"
Sylvie rolled her eyes picking god knows what out of her hair "I'm going to take a shower I suggest you do the same"
Georgie salutes Sylvie's retreating back and smiles at Kelly and Matt "Well our well-being check was rather interesting, we started doing our checks and everything was fine until another resident kicked off ran into where we were and chucked a full bed pan over us"
Kelly laughed "Filled with what?"
Matt looks at Kelly "You have a nose Severide?"
"Yes...oh?"
"Ding, ding, ding we have a winner"
"Hey!"
Matt smiles "Go shower we'll sort out 61"
Georgie starts jogging away "Thank you Casey"
Sylvie and Georgie go for their showers and come back out on the apparatus floor to find 61 gleaming and a makeshift bed pan hanging from the wing mirrors, Georgie turns and looks to find Kelly and Matt laughing.
"You utter bas.."
"MOM!"
Georgie turns around to find Alexander and Abigail running at her and Jay no where in sight.
"Guys what brings you here? Where's Jay?"
Alexander rolls his eyes "He was moving to slow mom"
"Yeah can we get him a pair of roller skates for Christmas?"
"Be as it may, you still should have waited for him"
"Can we see inside mom?"
"We won't touch anything we promise, ooh what's that?"
"Abigail?"
Abigail looks over her shoulder "Mom why is there what looks to be a bed pan on the Ambo?"
"Urhh"
"Guys what did I say about running off, the rigs could have been coming out, you could have caused an...is that a bed pan?"
"Oh for crying out loud, yes it's a bed pan that's all I'm saying"
Jay nods "Ok G, the kids wanted to see you on your first shift, urhh should I have rang we're getting stared at?"
Georgie smiles "No just nobody knows about them"
"Aah sorry G"
"Don't worry about it" Georgie groans at Alexander and Abigail climbing on the back of 61 "Guys get down from there!"
"Mom is this your rig?"
Georgie nods "Yes Alex that's 61"
"Can I sit inside?"
Sylvie walks over and opens the drivers side of 61 "Sure, I'm Sylvie I work with your mom, would you both like to have a ride?"
Alexander and Abigail smile at Sylvie and look at Georgie "Can we mom please?"
"We'll be good"
Georgie looks at Sylvie and then at her twins "Sylvie are you sure?"
Sylvie smiles "Of course, how old are you both?"
"We're eight and I'm the oldest"
Abigail rolls her eyes "By five minutes"
"Guys, do you want to go out on the rig or not?"
Abigail and Alexander nod at Jay and get into the back of 61, Jay follows them and shuts 61's doors. Sylvie gets in the drivers side and drives out of 51, Georgie waits until 61 is out of view and turns around to come face to face with Kelly and Matt.
"Jay Halstead?"
"Yes?"
"Are you together?"
Georgie laughs "No he's my best friend I've known him for years"
"Who's the twins dad?"
Georgie sighs "I'm a single mom, their dad didn't want anything to do with them, I wouldn't change them for the world, Jay helps me out with them and has done since they were newborns"
Kelly nods "51's family so if you ever need help we're here for you, all of us"
Matt nods "Definitely"
"Thanks guys"
Georgie, Matt and Kelly walk into the common room, Stella looks up and searches the room for Sylvie.
"Where's Brett?"
"Out on the rig with Abigail and Alexander"
"Who are Abigail and Alexander?"
"My children Herrmann"
"Children? How old were you when you had them fifteen?"
"No try nineteen Herrmann"
"Wow, go you for getting where you are now"
"Yeah that's thanks to my dad and Jay Halstead without them I wouldn't have even considered joining the CFD"
"Who's your dad we need to thank him?"
"I...urhh"
"MOM THAT WAS SO COOL"
"Inside voice Alexander"
"Sorry mom but it was"
Abigail and Sylvie walked in together "Mom Sylvie is so nice, she gave me this hair grip, looks pretty mom"
"I can see that sweetheart, pink just your colour"
Georgie looks around the common room at everyone smiling at the twins "I'd like to introduce you all to my twins Alexander and Abigail, guys this is firehouse 51"
Alexander and Abigail wave and walk over to Jay "Have a good shift G, we're off to Navy Pier"
Georgie walks out of the common room and hugs Jay, Alexander and Abigail and watches as they make their way out of 51 and she stops as Boden pulls in.
Boden looks down the apron and spots Jay with two children "That Jay Halstead with children?"
Georgie nods "Yes Chief, they are my children"
"Wait you have children?"
"Yes Chief eight year old twins, Alexander and Abigail"
Boden starts doing the math in his head, Georgie speaks first "I was nineteen Chief"
Boden nods and makes his way into the common room, a few minutes later Georgie followed carrying to bed pans and walking over to where Kelly and Matt were sitting, she quickly puts them on their heads and calmly sits down beside Sylvie and Stella.
"Suits you both, be grateful they were empty not like..."
"GEORGIE!"
Georgie holds up her hands in defence "Sorry Casey and Severide already know, was I not meant to say anything?"
Stella looks at Georgie smiling and Sylvie turning bright red "Ok what the hell happened on that shout?"
"I've been sworn to secrecy by the glare, sorry Stella"
"Oh come on?"
Sylvie groans and swipes her right hand over her face "Fine, go for it Georgie"
Georgie informed all of 51 about her first shout, by the end of it everyone was laughing including a very embarrassed Sylvie Brett.
The rest of the shift went accordingly a few shouts for Ambo but mostly were shared between Ambo and Squad. By the end of the twenty-four hour shift Georgie had become best friends with Stella, Sylvie, Matt and Kelly.
At the end of shift Georgie, Stella, Sylvie, Matt and Kelly walk out of 51 and to their cars. Georgie invited her friends to her house the following morning so they could get to know Alexander and Abigail more. The four adults agreed and hugged each other before going home.
The following morning found to excited eight year olds and one very tired Georgie, the twins in their excitement had woke her up at four in the morning, to say Georgie was tired was the understatement of the century.
"Mom when are they getting here?"
Georgie yawned "I don't know Alexander"
"I hope its soon mom"
"Uh huh"
"MOM!" Alexander is now jumping up and down in excitement "Two cars have pulled onto the driveway"
Georgie yawns again "Uh huh"
Alexander and Abigail open the front door and wave frantically at the four adults walking up the drive, Georgie smiles at them through tired eyes and let's them in through the front door.
"Georgie you look tired"
"That's what you get when these two get you up at four in the morning"
Sylvie looks at Alexander and Abigail "Guys? You should have let your mom sleep"
Alexander bows his head "Sorry Sylvie"
"Yeah it was my idea" Abigail looks sheepishly at Sylvie "I mean it was my fault"
Sylvie smiles "Not me you should be apologising too"
Georgie grins and walks into her kitchen, everyone follows behind her to find in the two seconds it took them to join Georgie in the kitchen she'd fallen asleep stood up kettle in hand.
Kelly gets to Georgie first, he puts the kettle down on the kitchen side and lifts Georgie into his arms.
"Can one of you show me where your mom sleeps?"
Alexander smiles and nods "I can follow me"
Kelly follows Alexander up to Georgie's room, he places her on top of the covers and lays the blanket over her, he turns to Alexander and smiles "Best let your mom sleep"
Alexander nods "Can I ask your name?"
"Sure my names Kelly Severide I work with your mom in firehouse 51, your Alexander right?"
"I prefer Alex"
"Pleasure to meet you Alex"
"I'm named after my grandma in heaven and Abigail's middle name is after our other grandma in heaven"
When back downstairs Alexander and Kelly notice everyone is out in the vast garden, once outside Alexander runs towards Abigail stood with Sylvie and the other man he didn't know.
"Alexander this is Matt, Matt this is Alexander"
"Hi" Alexander notices Matt surveying the garden and looking at a sheet of paper in his hand "Matt what you doing?"
"Found this sketch on the kitchen table, looking at these plans I can do this"
Stella walks over to rescue Matt from Alexander's questions "Who wants to go out for ice cream?"
Alexander and Abigail nod enthusiastically and walk away with Stella and Sylvie, Matt smiles at Kelly as he approaches "Hey Kelly"
"What you got there?"
"Plans for a pool with decking and a swing and slide set, I can do this" Matt looks at the plans and then at Kelly "Be back later"
"Ok well I'll stay here in case Georgie wakes up and wonders where we all are"
Kelly walk back into the kitchen and sits down, a few hours later finds Matt out in the garden and Kelly loading up the dishwasher, he didn't realise Georgie was watching him until she coughed and made him jump.
"Nice sleep?"
"Yes thanks, Kelly why is my house so quiet?" Georgie looks around the kitchen "What on earth are you doing?"
"Oh you know this wonderful machine is called a dishwasher"
"Very funny Severide" Georgie looks out into the garden and sees Matt "What the hell is he doing?"
Georgie opens the backdoor to her garden "MATTHEW CASEY WHAT IN GODS NAME ARE YOU DOING?"
"MY JOB GEORGIE!"
Georgie turns in confusion to Kelly "His job? Last time I knew he was a firefighter have I slipped into a time shift?"
"No this is my second job, in construction"
Georgie jumps ten foot in the air and turns around to find Matt grinning "You can add ninja to that list too, don't scare me like that" Georgie thinks it over for a few seconds "MATTHEW CASEY!"
"What I saw the plans and thought I can do this"
"Matt there's actually building it but going out and buying it is a whole different story"
"Guilty as charged"
"You didn't have to buy everything, what do I owe you?"
"You owe us nothing"
"Owe is? What did you do Casey?"
Kelly owns up as Matt starts to feel uncomfortable "Us means 51, in ten minutes the whole house will be here"
"My neighbours?"
"Have all offered spaces on their driveways"
"Food and drinks?"
"All in hand"
Georgie looks at Kelly and Matt smiling "My children?"
Kelly smiles "Out with Stella and Sylvie, any more questions?"
"Not a question maybe a statement, I'm going to kill you!"
Both Kelly and Matt run out of the house and into the garden being chased by Georgie. Once the rest of the house arrived Matt gave instructions on construction of the pool, decking and swing and slide set. Boden was over at the barbecue cooking up a storm.
Georgie looked around the garden at everyone there, the kids were exploring the garden and the adults were all mingling around, Georgie started to giggle when Capp yelped rubbing his hand and Boden waving a spatula at him.
Georgie smiles as Stella and Cindy Herrmann approach her "Do I want to know why Capp yelped?"
Cindy giggled "He tried to take a burger from the barbecue before it was ready"
"So the Chief hit him with the spatula, I've checked the spatula is ok"
Georgie, Stella and Cindy burst into uncontrollable giggles and laughed even harder when Capp raised his red hand and pointed at it, before then being slapped on the head with the same spatula by Sylvie.
The following week was uneventful shifts seem to be quiet, maybe the clumsy citizens of Chicago were on vacation?
On the third shift of sheer boredom firehouse 51 were actually begging for a call out anything before the fire trucks and Ambo 61 would disappear in a haze of polish and cleaning equipment.
"Ambo 61 person in distress 4334 South Wellington Road"
Sylvie and Georgie run to 61 and pull out of 51 and towards their shout on arrival they found a young woman certainly in distress with a tuning fork stuck in her hip.
Sylvie and Georgie do their assessments and pack the area to prevent the fork from moving, once this was done they were on their way to Med.
Once at Med and their patient was on their way to surgery, Georgie saw Will Halstead approaching her, he looked between Georgie and Sylvie and then stood still.
"Well this is awkward, I'll be at 61 Georgie"
Georgie smiles and nods at Sylvie and then laughs at Will "Now she'll think we're dating or something equally embarrassing"
"Wrong brother"
Georgie rolls her eyes "Really Will?"
Will smiles and whispers "So how are my niece and nephew?"
Georgie looks around the busy emergency department and then back at Will "They are not your..."
"Come off it! Alexander is the spitting image of Jay at that age, how my dumb ass brother has never noticed I don't know? He's the detective!"
Georgie pulls Will into an empty exam room and shuts the door.
"I know the twins were conceived around the time I got extremely drunk at your birthday party and well slept with Jay, I slept with Sam around the same time he's their dad!"
Will just nodded, Georgie glared at Will before he turned and saw the panic from within the emergency department.
Patients and staff were running for the doors, Will poked his head out of the door to find a man wielding a gun and screaming at people to leave. Will knew that they were trapped so pushed Georgie further into the room and placed his hand to his lip to remain quiet.
Georgie and Will stay perfectly still in the room crouched down between the far wall and the bed, suddenly and without warning Georgie's phone started to ring. Georgie answered it quickly, but not quickly enough as they were about to discover.
Georgie whispered into her phone "Sylvie I can't talk right now, currently hiding from a gun crazed patient"
"Are you safe?"
Georgie looks around the room "No but don't have much...oh shit!"
"Georgie? Georgie?"
Bang Bang Bang
Sylvie heard the shots through her phone and screamed, grabbing her radio she calls main, knowing 51 would be listening in.
61 to main shots fired, Paramedic Powell in the area of the gunman, I've lost contact. Need urgent assistance to Chicago Med.
Main to 61, confirm assistant on route, get to a safe distance and stay safe, main out.
As Sylvie had suspected 51 were listening in and were on route to Med within a minute, nobody knew at the what was going on in the emergency department, but everyone was praying that Georgie was safe.
