"Come back without that it and I'll make you regret it."
With my head high but eyes trained on the floor I give a sharp nod. As the heavy feet pounded towards me, I stood still as I felt the heat of his breathe radiate across the right side of my face. In an instance my chin is roughly grabbed as my head is tilted to face him as our eyes met.
"Are we clear?" He asks as he nails his dig into my cheeks, the whites of his eyes were gone now and as I looked up deep within his darkness, I keep my face still and emotionless when I reply.
"Crystal." His mouth contorted into a wicked grin, giving my face an extra squeeze before releasing me.
"I'll leave immediately" I say curtly but waiting to be dismissed. Nodding his head in acknowledgment I turn on my heels making my way to the shack door, his sorry excuse for an office. Pulling on the rusted handle I stop briefly as he calls out to me.
"Oh, and Haku will be accompanying you." He parades smugly. I freeze as my entire body tenses up, slowly turning to look back at him. No, not that lap dog! I watch him lean against his desk; the poor thing groaned under his weight. I wish the darn thing would collapse beneath him, impaling him. Folding his arms across his chest his eyes once again darkens and his face twists as he cracks his neck side to side.
"Tell me this isn't going to be a problem" swallowing down the bile in my throat I reply.
"It's easier for me to work alone, besides Haku will only -" I begin to explain when he grabs the side of the desk, breaking the rotten wood with his brute strength before repeating.
"Tell me this isn't going to be a problem."
"No problem." I reply after a minute.
"Good. Now get out of my sight." Closing the quietly door behind me I didn't have a moments peace before Haku made himself known. Casually leaning against the wall as the paint peeled off around him with folded hands, his lean and soft physique didn't suit his new mini me attitude.
"It'll be just like old times, Sis" throwing himself of the wall he throws a bag at me, I catch it with one fist. It must be supplies, I fastened it to my waist. We must be travelling light because the bag felt all but empty. Or he was too stingy to spare us supplies and we'd have to go it alone. Look back at Haku this would be the first time we've worked together in months maybe even years, I often forget how long we've been here. Staying silent I walk past him heading for the camps exit – expecting him to follow, he roughly grabs my shoulder.
"Hey, don't mess this up for me, understood?" He warned as my eyes homed in on his hand, without bothering to reply I shrugged him off and continued. Enraged by my silent treatment he brandished his kunai at my throat, unfazed I kept still. If he wanted to brawl, I'd give him a show.
"Understood" he repeats, smiling sweetly. Haku was even copying is words now too, how sick! Quickly grabbing his wrist, I push his hand away and take possession of his kunai, holding the base out for him to take.
"Yes, brother." I smile back just as sweetly, taking his kunai back his smile grows as Haku pulls me into a side hug.
"Atta girl, it'll be like old times. You and me out in the world - " I drown his rubbish out, not understanding how in good conscious could he say that! He hadn't been in good conscious for some time now so why did this surprise me. Haku fell from grace, and it pained me every day to see him cosy up and follow in the shadow of that man. Remembering his words "We live in hell and I'm tired of pain", I bite my tongue allowing Haku to continue rambling.
"And I'll have your back and you'll have mine. Just like before." he went dreamily as we began our journey to the Hidden Leaf Village.
And so it begins.
