I was driving to Stoneybrook from Maine after school because I'll be spending Spring Vacation with Logan and his family in Kentucky. I invited Kaylee and April. They had permission to come with me, but then April got sick, so she had to cancel, which I'm fine with that. We invited Beth, but she was away with her family. I started driving recently after I turned 16. My dad surprised me with the car for my birthday.

I'm Mary Anne Spier. Kaylee's one of my best friends. Her twin, Kayla, passed not long ago after struggling with cancer. Luckily, she had a fun time at my sweet 16th birthday party. I moved from Stoneybrook last year after Dad got promoted and transferred replacing someone who was retiring.

I'm a junior at Portland Voc-Tech High School. I'm in Fashion Design. My plans are going back my hometown for college. It was hard for my adopted, Carlos, the most because like me, he grew up in Stoneybrook. But he adjusted after a few months. He's into sports. His favorite is basketball. He wants to join any team.

In Stoneybrook, we were at Logan's in no time. We got our suitcases and let ourselves in.

"Hi, girls," said Mrs. Bruno.

"Hi," said Kaylee.

"We got a surprise for you," said Mrs. Bruno. "Mr. Bruno and I decided to let you drive to Kentucky."

"Really?" I asked.

"We figured we'd let you so you can be more comfortable with driving through the states," said Mr. Bruno.

"That would be cool," I said.

"Oh, good," said Mr. Bruno.

"That's very cool," said Kaylee.

"What time do you plan to leave in the morning?" I asked.

"Early. Around 7:00 or 7:30 am," replied Mr. Bruno. "We will need to be up for at least 6:00 am."

"I'll sit in the front with you," said his wife.

"Okay," I said. "I'd use my car, but it's too small to fit your luggage. It does fit 6 people. Not to mention, I got Kaylee. April was due to come, but she got sick with a cold."

"No problem. We can use our van," said Mr. Bruno. "It fits all of us."

"Do you mind if I use my GPS from my phone when we leave for Kentucky?" I asked.

"We have a screen for that, too," said Mrs. Bruno. "I'll show you how to do that tomorrow."

"Okay. That works, too," I said. "That's the only time I use my phone. I learned not to text and drive. I put it in a cupholder."

"It's good to be a safe driver," said Mr. Bruno.

"Logan wanted to drive, but we told him he can't do it with a license. He's starting classes during the summer," said his wife.

"I don't blame you," I said. "Especially in case a police officer stops him, they ask for ID and registration. You need to be prepared."

"Exactly," said Kaylee.

"I got my registration in my glove box. Should I bring it in case that happens?" I asked.

"I don't think you'd need it since you'd be using our van, but you can still bring it so it won't get stolen while we're gone," said Mrs. Bruno.

I went to get it and I put it in my purse for safe keeping.

That night, I called Dad to let him I'm in Stoneybrook.

"I didn't want to call you while you were at work," I said.

"That's ok," said Dad.

"I had a surprise when I got here," I said as I told him about their plans. "They already knew that I'm driving now. They didn't want Logan to drive until he gets his license."

"I don't blame them," said Dad.

"Me, either," I said.

Then, I spoke to my grandmother and she was also glad to hear that I get to drive to Kentucky.

After we finished talking, Mr. Bruno got pizza. They don't cook the night before trips. After that, we changed to get ready for bed early. Kerry and Hunter had to be in bed for 9:30 pm. The rest of us went to bed 30 minutes later. I was in another room because I don't want sex until I get married, which is after I graduate from college and I would want to get a career first- Logan is trying to get me to do so. I had birth control pills for a while, but I had to stop because it would turn my stomach even if I take it with food.
