*I do not own The Bad Batch
Omega was going to crash. She pressed buttons on her flight pod, none of them having any effect. Closing her eyes, she braced herself for a crash landing. But it never came.
Omega crashed into the wall as she felt a ship catch onto the pod. Cowering in the corner, she hoped that it wasn't one of the bounty hunters after her.
The smoke cleared and a friendly voice called down to her.
"Omega? You in there?"
"Wrecker?" Omega was so relieved. She scurried up the ladder and Wrecker picked her up and swung her around.
"Good to have you back, kid." When he set her down, Omega collapsed into Hunter's arms. He was who she needed. She was scared, her nerves on edge. She just wanted to bury her head into his armor and cry.
"Are you okay Omega? Are you hurt?" Hunter's soft words echoed those of Cut a few weeks ago.
"Why is this happening? Why are the Kaminoans after me?"
"Hunter, you have to tell her," Echo said. Omega looked at Echo before returning her questioning eyes to Hunter.
"You're...valuable to them. You're different."
"But I don't want to be different. I want to be like you," Omega said tearfully.
"I know, kid. You are one of us. We won't let anything bad happen to you," Hunter said, hugging Omega. Omega sighed, relieved to be back.
"We better get you off to bed, Hunter. You're still hurt," Echo reminded him in a voice that said he had been reminding Hunter to rest all day. Omega felt guilty for keeping Hunter up. Echo was right, Hunter was hurt.
"Okay," Hunter said, but turned back to Omega one last time. "Are you sure you're okay?"
Omega didn't know how to respond. She was back with the crew, so she was out of danger. But she still felt on edge. She was a bit jumpy and nervous. Also her body ached from being thrown around all day. But she didn't want Hunter to worry.
"Don't worry, if she has any physical injuries, I can obviously help with them," Tech said. Omega nodded, giving Hunter the reassurance he needed to get some rest.
While Echo led Hunter back to bed, Tech got the ship out of the galaxy, far away from the bounty hunters. Omega stood awkwardly in the room, unsure what to do. Then a loud voice behind her made her jump and skitter into the corner.
"I've got the medkit." Wrecker shoved the kit on the ground and started rummaging through it.
"Wrecker, be quiet. Hunter is trying to sleep," Echo said, coming back into the room and talking in a hushed voice. He sat down in the copilot seat, looked around, and set his eyes on Omega's startled form. His eyes softened. "Come here, Omega."
Omega cautiously approached him.
"Let's see here. Why don't we get those handcuffs off you first, huh?" Echo talked in a soft voice like Hunter did when calming Omega down. Omega appreciated it, but Echo wasn't as good at it as Hunter. "Tech, I'll fly. You get those restraints off."
"Of course," He replied, beckoning Omega to follow him to his tools in the back.Wrecker followed, while Echo stayed to watch the ship. Tech sat her down in an emergency seat, getting his tools. "I apologize. I had to get the ship off the planet first. If you had needed immediate emergency care, I would have allowed others to fly and operated on you. But you seemed relatively fine, so I made getting off the planet my priority. Now why don't you tell me what hurts?"
Omega hadn't realized that Tech had gotten the restraints off while he was talking. She was exhausted from her day. And she didn't need medical supplies. She probably just had some bruising. What she really wanted was to sleep.
"I'm fine, just tired. I'm going to bed."
"Are you sure, Omega? My job as the medic is to make sure that you are properly taken care of. I assume that the bounty hunters did not leave you unharmed."
"I'm fine," Omega said, a little more forceful this time. She just wanted to cry, but she didn't want to break down right in front of everyone. Tech wondered what Hunter would do in this situation. Remembering when Crosshair would refuse treatment, Tech decided to just leave Omega alone.
"Okay, then. Wrecker, get her to bed." Wrecker nodded and took Omega's hand.
Not expecting it, Omega cried out and struggled to get away from the hold. Her wrist felt like it was on fire as she cowered in the corner. Tech and Wrecker just stared at her, confused.
Omega's breathing got quick and she started to cry.
"Leave me alone!"
Tech backed away, surprised by the situation. Wrecker approached her cautiously.
"What's wrong, kid? Did I hurt you? I'm sorry." Tech analyzed the situation.
Omega stared at them wide eyed, pushing herself as far as she could into the corner of the room.
"Wrecker, you're scaring her. Back away." Wrecker listened. Then Tech saw a flash of red on Omega's sleeve. Forgetting everything, Tech went into his medic mode. He approached Omega, ignoring the cries and pulled her sleeve back. Her wrist was rubbed so raw by the restraints that it had started bleeding.
Omega struggled in his grasp, but Tech held on, trying to talk her down.
"Omega, I need to check your hands. You are injured and I want to make sure that they do not get infected."
Tech's voice calmed Omega down slightly, but she continued to cry. Tech tried something else that he had seen Hunter do. He started to rub Omega's back, making his words softer. Finally, Omega collapsed, burying her face into Tech's armor. She was shaking and crying, but she had stopped struggling. Tech froze, unsure what to do. He was by no means a hugger. Any of the other batchers, except maybe Crosshair when he was around, were better fit for this.
"Omega, look at me. I need to check your wrists. Do you have other injuries? What did the bounty hunters do to you?"
This was obviously the wrong thing to say to her. She started to shake even more, her sobs turning into words.
"I want Hunter."
"Hunter's resting right now, but Wrecker and Echo are available. Would you like one of them?" Tech hoped she would say yes because he didn't like to be in situations that he didn't understand.
"No, I want Hunter."
"Sounds like we better get Hunter," Wrecker said, staring at Omega with wide eyes.
"Fine, but do not blame me when Echo gets angry at you. He has been trying to get Hunter to rest all day."
Hunter could finally relax with his noise cancelling headphones. Omega was safe and sound. He kept reminding himself of that. His squad was back together. Well not with Crosshair. But Hunter couldn't think about Crosshair after the stress of the day. He could really use some non-nightmare ridden sleep tonight.
Hunter was just starting to relax when he was shaken awake roughly. His eyes flew open, pulling the headphones off. He heard crying and could smell the fear coming off of someone.
"What? What's going on?"
"It's Omega, she's…" But Wrecker barely got a word out before Hunter was rushing toward the sound of crying.
"I don't want you to heal me, I just want Hunter!"
Hunter rushed in, confused by the sight of Omega collapsed into Tech's arms. Tech kneeled there, helpless, unsure of how to comfort the distraught child.
"Omega, I'm right here." Omega and Tech glanced up, both with the expressions of extreme relief on their faces.
Omega let go of Tech and ran into Hunter, making his injury scream. But he didn't care. He just wanted Omega to calm down. He could hear her heart racing, could see her face barely masking her pain. He kneeled down and let her cry into his shoulder. He rubbed her back, whispering words of comfort to her. Finally, her heart rate slowed and the tension left her body. She allowed Hunter to pick her up. He moved to a chair and set her on his lap.
"Hunter, she is injured and needs medical attention. Refusing medical attention could be detrimental. Her wrists..."
Hunter silenced him with a raised hand.
"Omega, can Tech check out your wrists?" Omega nodded against his chest. Hunter maneuvered her around so that Tech could access her wrists. When he pulled up the sleeves, he nodded.
"These are not as injured as I originally thought. They will heal with some bacta, as long as we keep them clean. Can you inform me what else is injured? Please." Tech added.
"My...my shoulder hurts and my side, and my legs are sore."
"I'm assuming this is all from falling?" Omega nodded.
"Then it is most likely just bruising. May I check?" Omega nodded, sitting up a bit and undressing to her tank top.
Tech looked at her shoulder and her side.
"As expected, there is just a lot of bruising. We can get some ice for that. There is not much else we can do. Now I suggest a sedative injection so that you can sleep peacefully tonight."
At the word injection, Omega had backed back up into Hunter's arms. Her heart rate spiked back up. Hunter held her close, holding a hand out to stop Tech.
"What's wrong, kid? Tech's not going to hurt you. You know Tech would never hurt you."
"I don't like shots. Please no." Omega was pushing herself backwards into Hunter, struggling away from Tech.
"It will only help you," Hunter said. "It will help you not have nightmares tonight. And I'll stay with you until you wake up, how does that sound?"
Omega sighed and nodded, closing her eyes in acceptance
Tech got the shot ready and as Hunter was applying ice to Omega's wound, Tech quickly gave Omega the shot. Omega's only indication of feeling the shot was a grumpy frown. She started to drift off, feeling the immediate effects of the shot.
Hunter rubbed her back until she was completely out. Then he carried her to her room, sitting in the chair and situating her so she was comfortable. They would talk about the bounty hunters and Omega's fears tomorrow. Today, they both drifted into a deep and healing sleep.
