Author's note:
Hello everyone reading this!
.
Before you start with this series, it's important I point out some details, to avoid confusion.
This is the Forsaken Queen AU, which is spread out over 3 books;
Book 1: The Troll War
Book 2: Pseudo Heir
Book 3: New Lineage
.
For those reading this, please keep in mind that this WILL contain SPOILERS, so read at your own risk if you haven't played/finished the game. This takes place before Pseudo Heir(Book 2) and will contain some dark topics that some may not be comfortable with. While this is an AU, it will explore certain parts of the official canon by marking them like *this*. Even though it will discuss official content, this AU will also do it's own thing at times as well and there will be new characters appearing in this story.
.
Also for darker chapters, there will be a warning in the Author's Note at the top, so double check if you're upset by any dark content. It will never be of a sexual nature, but will generally be around abuse, mental health and self harm. This is a dark AU, but I aim to balance it out as much as I can. I despise shock value and write what feels right for the characters, their backstories and situations. The Kameo lore is dark at times as well, hinting at some of this too, but I will leave that up to you whether you want to follow it up or not.
.
Like always, the official canon content can be found in the Kameo Discord server, by either looking us up in Disboard or adding the following on the end of a Discord invite:

The Forsaken Queen AU
Book 1:
The Troll War
...
..
Long ago, before our eldest of ancestors existed, there were the *Gods* who ruled over the lands. The watched over our lands, as our races were still in their infancy. Whether it was from fascination, or infatuation, no one is certain of, but we did know that they held a lot of power.
.
As Generations passed, the races began to redefine themselves through evolution and environments. Though each of these races stood strong, there were two who were more important than the rest.
.
Once both races had reached maturity, the *Gods* decided to speak to each, granting an important task:
.
"As the oldest creatures to walk this plane, we assign to both your kind, a tremendous responsibility; to protect this land from darkness, should ever it rise."
.
"But, how are we to do this?" They asked. "We have no might, compared to entities such as yourselves."
.
To this, the Gods replied: "Thus, we shall grant each of you a gift, one that must be used harmoniously to protect your people and world." A God approached the elder Sargothan.
.
"To the Wise and Spiritually gifted, we grant you this enchanted gem, infused with powers of the elements of this world."
.
Another approached the elder Elf.
.
"To the Magically gifted and humble, we grant you this enchanted tome, infused with the knowledge of this power, and the means to control it."
.
The Gods looked at each one.
"Unless this is used harmoniously, neither one will be able to use this gift. Do not fall into the hollow temptation of greed of common mortals. Be a mighty example for your people and for other races. Protect and guide them."
.
As they spoke this, the Gods vanished, entrusting these powerful relics into the mortal's care, while secretly watching from above.
.
While the Gods knew that mortals could be corrupted by greed, they never realised that it could birth the evil they had warned about.
.
Over the duration of many years and generations, both races became bitter and jealous of the other, seeing neither one as equal and believing their race to be superior and that their race alone should control the power.
.
.
This started as petty remarks, then arson, escalating into brawls on the streets, before finally breaking out into full on war. Both the Sargothans and Elves didn't hold back, the Sargothans lack of empathy for other races, causing their side to let lose with their powers, destroying the once luscious and vibrant forests of the land.
.
During the war, the Elves build a mighty floating castle to protect the Royal Family, which became known as the Enchanted Kingdom.
.
In that time, the castle had been completed, and as the magic was poured into the kingdom, it began to float. As this happened, the Sargothan numbers began dwindling, now that the darkest form of their magic was rendered almost harmless.
.
While the Sargothans now focused on physical fighting and hand-to-hand combat, the Elves still had an advantage of magic and numbers on their side. Finally, an Elf struck a fatal blow on a Sargothan, snatching a gem from their forehead, and cheering in triumph.
.
What met them, was a tremendous rage. The Gods had finally decided to intervene before the power was used. From the Tome, 10 creatures were ripped from within it's pages.
.
"For your arrogance and cruelty, the prize you have sought will be sent to the ends of this world, far from your corrupted hands." Each creature transforming into a light, firing away into different directions and vanishing.
.
The power that drove the Sargothans mad, had been ripped from their grasp, before either one had a chance to use it. With that, the Gods decided to add further punishment, by removing the knowledge of how to use the Tome and Gem, granting it to a single entity who was deemed worthy.
.
Over many generations, greed and desire led the Elves to seek out and recover these creatures, they had called, 'Elemental Warriors' to once again use for themselves. Some never found any, while few were able to recover one or even two.
.
Despite this, none knew how to use either the Gem or the Tome. The knowledge had been lost when the Sargothans were wiped out. The Elves were furious by this, but decided to use their own power and influence, by sending a message far and wide;
.
Should anyone show them how to use these fabled items, they would receive power and wealth. Many years passed, until one day, a cloaked figure appeared before the Royal Family, claiming to have this knowledge.
.
"I can show you how to wield this power, your majesty, but I have a single condition for doing so."
.
"What is this condition?" The Family asked. The stranger bowed.
"Allow me to be on the council, as your royal adviser. I have far more knowledge and wisdom that I wish to impart to the Royal Family, for as long as I am able to."
.
The Royal Family had a private council, before agreeing. This cloaked stranger became known as, The Mystic and it became *tradition* that every ruler of the Kingdom would always have a mystic by their side. As generations passed, this tradition continued strongly.
.
One day, a new elf of young blood appeared. His name, was Solon.
.
No one knew where this elf had come from, only that he had shown great promise and worked incredibly hard. He rose through the rankings, until he finally became King. During his rule, Solon received the Gem, called the Element of Power, along with the Tome, called the Wotnot.
.
Upon his coronation, Solon was approached by The Mystic, who taught him of the ceremony, that would allow him to use this almighty power from the Gods. She also told him of a tribe in a distant land, called the Twycross. It consistent of a race of Elves who were close to nature.
.
When Solon found the Twycross, he met the chieftain of the tribe: Terramus. An older Elf experienced in magic regarding nature and creatures of the land. As Solon trained with Terramus, he felt at ease, taking to the training quite well.*
.
Among those travels to the Twycross, *Solon met a young dark haired elf named Theena. She and her family resided in the village, and through Solon's trips, became closer and closer, falling in love.*
.
*Finally Solon asked Theena and her family to move with him to the Enchanted Kingdom, by proposing to Theena, who happily accepted.* The two married and Theena gave birth to a red-haired child.
.
Between his travels to the Twycross and the Kingdom, Solon also sought after the Elemental Warriors, as did the previous Kings and Queens before him. Before one of his ventures, Solon encountered the Trolls.
.
These hulking creatures of muscle were gift-less in magic, but talented in machinery and construction. Solon looked upon these machines and thought they could benefit the Elves, so he made a proposition;
.
Build machines for the Kingdom, and the Trolls would be welcomed there, as well as letting their leader join the *Council.* Many races strongly discouraged this, saying trolls were far too barbaric and brutal, pointing out that these stupid creatures were unpredictable and dangerous.
.
*Solon proudly proclaimed that no troll would dare defy him* before setting out on his next journey. Unknown to Solon, a new troll appeared, who had both intellect and brawn, hiding his intelligence around Elves.
.
His name was Thorn, and he strongly disagreed with the Elves and other races. While they did use their machines, the trolls thought they were better than the Elves.
.
Thorn used both his strength and intellect to rise up, declaring himself king of the Trolls and using the profits from the troll's machines to build a ginormous castle on top of a volcano. Many races pointed out that this was trouble, but Solon's focus was on the Elemental Warriors, not Thorn.
.
Finally, as Solon ventured out once more, Thorn began setting his plan in action. He had been talking to his people, convincing them that they weren't happy, telling them that they could have even more. Thorn began the invasion, taking over the kingdom and causing terror among the tribes.
.
Once the invasion began, the Enchanted Kingdom sealed it's gates and awaited Solon's return in fear. When Solon returned, he was furious. After finding Thermite, the last warrior, Solon used all of them combined to drive the trolls out of the kingdom and breaking the allegiance.
.
To remind them of that mistake, a statue of Thorn was made and placed in the Chamber of Living Portraits, as a reminder to never trust trolls.
.
Then Solon vanished, never to be seen again-
.
"Excuse me, Miss Dabsa?"
The teacher looked up from her book at the class, more particularly, the young elf.
"Yes, Cail?"
"Why didn't King Solon listen to anyone warning him? Also what does a Sargothan look like?" The teacher closed the book, placing it on top of her desk.
.
"Solon was kind. Too kind. He shared and showed more kindness than those monsters deserved, and paid the price for it. As for Sargothans, nobody remembers. The war between them was so savage, it destroyed every trace of their history and nearly our own." She leaned against the desk as Cail tapped his chin in thought.
.
"Now class, can anyone tell me what happened afterwards?" She glanced around, but halted when noticing a dark haired elf wasn't paying attention.
.
".…Kameo, would you care to answer?" The young elf turned with a fright. She had been gazing out the window, daydreaming of adventures.
.
"I….uh…c-could you repeat that again?" She asked, turning bright red and brushing one of her braids from her fringe out of the way. The teacher gave an empathetic smile. It was a sensitive topic, but Kameo had asked the teacher earlier that she be included.
.
It was rather unusual, since Kameo loved history, that she would be spacing out.
.
"What happened after Solon and Thorn fought?" Kameo cleared her throat, brushing her short black hair back.
.
"-after their fight, both Thorn and King Solon vanished. No one knows why or how, but the kingdom hasn't been the same ever since." She answered with a forced grin. She wanted to know more about the Kings and Queens, especially her father, but no one ever really talked about him, so it was her only chance to learn.
.
"...do you think Kalus will live up to him?" Kameo's ear twitched, hearing two students in the far back talking. She frowned.
.
"Kalus? No way, she's terrifying and can scare people away, but no one was as good as Solon." They glanced up to see Kameo, who pointed at them both and pounded her fist into her hand. They got the point and looked away awkwardly.
.
As class ended, Kameo walked out, putting a scroll in her bag, but paused as Miss. Dabsa tapped her shoulder.
.
"Princess Kameo, I know this is a sensitive topic, but please know that I can always teach you this in private, if you ever want to-"
"No, it's okay, I want to learn, just like everyone else." She grinned. She faintly heard the two talking from earlier and quickly glared at them.
.
"...please stop threatening them Kameo. They're just looking for the attention." She scolded, shaking her head. "You're better than that, and you already know how great a Queen Kalus will be."
.
The 15 year old sighed.
.
".…"
.
Kameo waved to her teacher and walked to her next class. The two elves, Beiter and Aangus, had frequently annoyed a lot of people in class, but always made a habit of speaking badly about Kalus within ear range.
.
She wouldn't care as much, but the fact that others listened to these two is what made her angry. While her and Kalus hadn't been close in years, she was still kind and made time for Kameo whenever she could. That, and Kalus was always working hard, harder than anybody she knew.
.
While part of her was excited for Kalus' coronation coming up in a few weeks, she also felt a bit nervous too. Kalus would get a lot busier when she was Queen, and part of Kameo was worried that she would rarely see her sister after coronation.
.
*She also knew that Coronation was held on the Heir's 18th Birthday,* so Kameo wanted to surprise her with something too. But she wasn't sure of what to get her yet. She knew Kalus was very practical, she *didn't listen to music, and constantly studied magic.*
.
She wasn't sure what to get her, but she wanted it to be something really nice, just for her.
.
"KAM!" Somebody threw themselves onto Kameo, wrapping their arms around her in a friendly hug. She looked over her shoulder at hazel eyes.
.
"Calmity, you gotta stop doing that!" She said, half seriously. If *she hadn't been training with her Uncle Halis* so often, that would have sent her bowling on the ground with some nasty scrapes.
.
"But I haven't seen you in forever and I gotta make an entrance!" She whined playfully as Kameo shrugged her off with a chuckle, readjusting her bag.
.
"Half a day, is not forever Calmity. By the way, wasn't Trapes in your class too?" Calmity stretched, pondering.
.
"I actually think he's off sick today. Something about a stomach cramp, I think." She scratched her head. "Or I think someone kicked a ball into his gut during training. I can't remember." She shrugged with an awkward chuckle.
.
"It happens almost every time, how has he not learned to dodge yet?" Se pondered quietly as Kameo chuckled.
.
"He needs to train with Uncle Halis, that's why. He's pretty good at fighting." The two walked, glancing at the different students walking to their next class.
.
"So, Kalus' coronation, huh?" Calmity elbowed Kameo playfully. "Nervous?"
.
"For her? Yeah. She's basically gonna vanish and I'm worried about whether we'll see her again." Kameo rubbed her neck. "Also, I'm trying to think of what to get her, for her birthday."
.
Calmity hummed as she pondered about it too.
"She….actually, what does she like? I…I don't think she's close to anyone besides you." She hummed again, scratching her chin. Kameo looked off sadly.
.
It was true, Kalus kept people at a distance and didn't let anyone close. If she wasn't related to her, she doubt that Kalus would let her in either.
.
"I think, she just has a lot to worry about, you know?"
.
"Yeah…"
.
They both rounded a corner, Kameo giving a brief wave at some elves who waved at her.
.
"So what does she like? Maybe we can share ideas?" Kameo frowned.
"Uhm….she likes magic, studying….um….magic-"
"You already said magic." Kameo went a bit red, looking off to the side.
.
"Well…. I never see her doing anything else. I wasn't kidding about the working hard part, Calmity."
.
"There you two are!" A blonde elf called, catching up from the group behind them.
.
"Here I thought you had ditched me Princess." Kameo pinched her nose.
"Please don't call me that, you know I hate that title Jaebs." He chuckled.
.
"As my father says, one cannot run from who they are!" Kameo glanced over at Calmity pleadingly, who understood.
.
"Hey, have you seen Trapes? We haven't seen him all day and Kameo would greatly appreciate that." Jaebs raised an eyebrow.
.
"Trapes? I believe he would be training with the Royal Guard. He'll be protecting important people one day, such as yourself and your sister, Princess Kameo." Kameo groaned as Calmity rolled her eyes.
.
"Maybe come back later? Private talk going on here." Calmity hissed quietly at Jaebs, who glanced between the two.
.
"Ah, pardon the intrusion…and not receiving the clue." He quickly jogged off ahead as Kameo quietly thanked her. Calmity had been Kame's closest friend for years, as Kameo greatly appreciated that she was so casual with her, while others either *teased her for being a spoilt princess* or were too uptight around her.
.
She just liked being herself around Calmity, that she could relax and not be constantly serious. It was nice, and something she needed. She thought Kalus could use a friend like her too.
.
While Kameo and Calmity got along pretty wel, Kalus and Calmity were fairly neutral. They didn't get into fights or anything, but they weren't hitting it off, since Kalus constantly kept people at arm's length.
.
Kameo constantly worried about her sister. She knew that every time Kalus would struggle, it would be really hard on her, but Kalus was going to be Queen and had to be perfect at everything.
.
…she shuddered at the thought of that expectation on her.
.
"Hey, you okay?"
"Yeah, I just…nevermind, anyway let's figure out a present for Kalus. I want to get her something really nice."
.
Calmity stroked her chin. "Hmm…really nice, well the only thing that comes to mind is either a keepsake or jewellery. Does she like the shinies?" Kameo snorted with laughter from the unexpected term, earning some looks.
.
"You're the best. Yea,I think jewellery could work, actually!" Kameo pouted, copying Calmity's pose. "But what to get her?" She continued puzzling over this as they entered the next classroom, containing Kameo's favourite topic: Ancient Languages.
.
Author's note(again) :
Yes, I am writing both Book 1 and Book 2 at the same time. I was going over my notes and thought it would be better to establish a rewrite/AU for the events of the game, especially since Pseudo Heir takes a different route to what was shown in the cancelled sequel. Because there are new characters, this is important so it doesn't seem jarring when/if they appear later.
