A/N: Welcome to Story #4 in the ATO2C series! If you haven't read ATO2C: First Day of School or ATO2C: Extracurricular Activities, you might want to for a little more backstory on Sammi and John's "side missions."

This story (Part 2) is the sequel to A Tale of Two Clones. While reading the first part will give you Sammi and John's full backstory and insider information, it is not necessary to enjoy this sequel.

This sequel is right around 25k words and is finished. My awesome beta is working on a huge S/J story for me, so I decided to post this one as is. All mistakes are mine. I plan to drop a chapter a week.

I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it!

Chapter 1

"No, absolutely not," Sammi told John emphatically as they walked to his car after school. "We are not going."

"Why not?" John gave her a perplexed look. "Our mission is to blend in with students here, infiltrate the social circles, and look for evidence of Trust activities. Going to the biggest party of the year seems like the perfect way to do that."

"It's Nancy's party," Sammi bit out. "You remember Nancy, right?"

"The girl you punched out on the first day of school?" John teased her. "No, don't remember her at all."

Sammi smacked him on the arm, catching him unaware.

"Dang, Tiger," he rubbed the spot she'd hit, "sheath those claws, I was only kidding."

Sammi glared at him. He was taking this whole blending in thing a bit too far. They'd only been here a month and John had already made starting quarterback on the football team and had picked up several new friends in the process.

"How are you so at ease with all of this?" She asked him, her tone serious.

"I did the moody, undercover high schooler thing for two years," he answered honestly. "It sucked. I'm taking a different tactic this time."

Silence lengthened between them as she considered what he'd said. Staying separate from everyone was proving harder than she'd anticipated. She really liked Clare and Jenny and was getting to know Patrick from the Academic Team. She was very comfortable with Clare and Jenny but she couldn't quite figure out what to make of Patrick; especially with the strange vibes she was getting from him. And the longer she spent 'undercover' the harder it was becoming to delineate the line between mission and life.

"Why don't we skip the party?" John pulled her to a stop a few feet from the car, his face serious. "It'll probably be a bunch of rich kids getting drunk anyway."

"You don't mind?" She really didn't want him to miss out on having fun. He'd missed out on too much over the past two years.

"Of course not," he gave her his Sammi-smile. "If it's a choice between anything and you, I'm always going to choose you."

Sammi's heart skipped a beat at his words. With everything they'd been doing to become Sammi and John, it was easy to forget that they were also Sam and Jack. The deep connection they shared had been forged from unbreakable steel and years of covering the other's six. And while John insisted they take things slowly, to form a new bond as Sammi and John, she already knew what was between them was inevitable.

"How about a movie night with our new friends tomorrow? After we get back from the meet," Sammi offered as a compromise. Tomorrow would be her first academic competition and Nancy's big party wasn't for a couple of weeks, so their friends were likely free.

"Really?" His excitement at the idea made her willing to give it a shot.

"Sure," she shrugged, "but only Jenny, Clare, and Louis. Not the entire football team."

"Deal," he opened her car door then jogged around to his side.

"Is this our first date?" Sammi grinned at him. She'd been hoping he'd ask her out officially and move past the wall he'd erected between them romantically in his misguided attempt to give her time.

"What?" John practically squeaked as he dropped into the driver's seat.

"A date," she gave him a sultry look. "You know. You. Me. A movie."

"And our friends," John shook his head. "I think we kinda have to be alone for it to be considered a date."

"Oh," she pretended to consider what he said. "I see your point." She gave him an expectant look and waited for him to ask her out properly. When he merely started the car and began backing out of the parking spot, she deflated. She knew him well enough to know the wall he'd erected between them was firmly in place. Just like Jack had insisted on protecting Sam's career, John was determined to protect Sammi from her own feelings. It had frustrated Sam then and it pissed Sammi off now. It had taken Sam far too long to break through that wall and Sammi was determined not to let history repeat itself.

"Hey Jenny," Sammi plunked down at their desk in the biology lab. "You want to do a movie night at my house tomorrow night?"

"Sure," Jenny beamed at her, "but let me ask my mom first." Jenny typically watched her little brother Max on Friday nights so her parents could have a date night. Her dad, however, was traveling for business, so Jenny probably wasn't needed.

"John's inviting Louis," Sammi watched her reaction. Jenny's immediate flush confirmed what she suspected. Jenny had a crush on Louis.

"That's nice," Jenny said after a minute causing Sammi to snort. "What?"

"Oh, come on," Sammi rolled her eyes, "you like him."

"Do not."

"Do too."

Jenny stuck her tongue out right as Clare took her seat at the lab table in front of them.

"What did I miss?" Clare asked, looking between them.

"Nothing," Jenny said too quickly.

"Just that Jenny has a crush on your step-brother," Sammi smirked at Jenny.

"Hey!" Jenny protested with a panicked look.

"Pfft, that's not news," Clare winked at Sammi as Jenny gasped. "Jen's had a thing for Louis for a while, but he's too dense to notice."

"I am not that transparent!" Jenny argued.

"Yeah, you are," both Sammi and Clare replied, then burst out laughing.

"It's okay," Sammi threw an arm around her shoulders. "I'm pretty sure he likes you too."

"He does?" Jenny's face lit up like a Christmas tree, causing Sammi and Clare to giggle harder. "Oh, shut up," she told them laughing, as the teacher came into the classroom to begin class.

Jenny was excited because today's lab assignment was blood typing. It wasn't something hard, but it was fascinating to her. She enjoyed imagining herself as a famous doctor working in a lab somewhere.

She also loved having Sammi as a lab partner because they challenged each other. Even though they'd only known each other a few weeks, Sammi was already one of the few people who could push Jenny out of her comfort zone both socially and academically.

"I've been waiting for this lab assignment for months," Jenny whispered, almost giddy. "Did you do this one at an old school already?" When Sammi didn't respond, she turned toward her. "Sammi?" Her friend was as white as a sheet. "Hey, are you okay?"

"I'm fine," Sammi swallowed hard. "Just not a fan of blood." She raised her hand. "Mr. Clark, may I please be excused."

"There's always one," their teacher muttered. "It's just a little blood, Ms. Carter. You'll be fine."

"Mr. Clark—"

"You both do the assignment or you both fail the assignment," Mr. Clark gave her the ultimatum. Sammi nodded woodenly.

"I'm sorry," Jenny whispered. "Want me to make it quick?"

As soon as Sammi nodded, Jenny grabbed her friend's hand and pricked her finger. She squeezed some blood into a test tube, then transferred one-third of it to the blood typing card. The blood immediately showed an invalid result. Before Sammi could react, Jenny was already in motion and ignoring all Sammi's attempts to stop her from repeating the test.

"Huh," Jenny huffed before she tossed the card into the nearest garbage bin and tried again. When she received another invalid result, she grabbed a microscope slide, added a few drops of blood, and some staining solution. "Weird," she breathed as she looked through the microscope's eyepiece. She could easily identify the red blood cells, plasma, platelets, and white blood cells that made up blood, but there was something else. Something abnormal was attached to several of the red blood cells. "Mr. Clark?" she started to call him.

"Please don't," Sammi whispered, her voice shaking. The look on her face was filled with dread.

"Yes, Ms. Jones?" He looked up from helping another student.

"Never mind, I figured it out," Jenny said, her eyes still on Sammi.

"Very good," Mr. Clark nodded. "Blood type?"

"O-negative," she replied, choosing the statistically popular type.

"Do you want me to double-check?" he walked over.

"No," Sammi sat upright shaking her head, "I know my blood type. It's O-negative."

"Good job then," he turned to assist another student.

"Thank you," Sammi mouthed to Jenny who nodded in return. She withdrew the slide and tossed it into the trash. Whatever she'd seen in her friend's blood, it wasn't her secret to tell.

The bell rang and Sammi stood up quickly. "We still on for a movie tomorrow night?" Jenny placed a hand on her arm.

"Sure," Sammi smiled, but her normal exuberance was gone. "Will you invite Clare for me?"

As soon as Jenny nodded, Sammi practically ran from the classroom. She stared after Sammi, unsure of what had just happened. Slowly she picked up her books. As her classmates started to leave, her eyes were drawn to the trash can. She was uncertain of what she should do, but assumed John would be able to help.

"Hey, John!" Jenny called a few minutes later when she saw him coming out of his trig class across the hallway.

"Hey, Jen," he smiled as he joined her. "Where's Sammi?"

"I dunno," she glanced around. It wasn't like Sammi to ghost them. "Something weird happened in biology. It was blood typing day—"

"Oh crap," John grimaced.

"So you do know why Sammi freaked out," Jenny stated, watching his eyes search the crowd.

"Yeah, but it's a long story," John told her, still scanning for Sammi.

"Is she okay? I mean, her blood didn't look right," she leaned into him and whispered so they wouldn't be overheard.

"Umm," John looked at her uncomfortably. "I better find her," he evaded the question. "Please don't say anything to anyone, okay?"

"I wouldn't do that," Jenny replied, upset he'd assume otherwise. "Just tell her that whatever it is, I don't care. Okay?"

Jenny stopped herself from taking a step back when John pinned her with a hard stare. His eyes narrowed, no longer resembling the fun-loving guy she'd gotten to know over the last few weeks. It was like he was trying to peer into her soul to decide whether he could trust her.

"Okay," he finally said, giving her shoulder a gentle squeeze, his eyes softening. "I'll find her don't worry," he took off at a fast pace toward the parking lot.

Jenny let out a breath she hadn't realized she was holding. She'd never been nervous around Sammi or John before, but today she'd glimpsed a side of them she hadn't known existed. Glancing around, she made her way back to the biology lab.

"Ah, Clare," she squeaked as Clare came out of the room right as Jenny turned the doorknob.

"Didn't mean to scare you," Clare snickered. "I forgot my textbook," she held it up.

"I think I dropped my pen," Jenny lied, slipping past her and into the room. "I'll catch you in the cafeteria."

Once the door was closed and she knew she was alone, Jenny knelt by the trash can and dug around, looking for the discarded slide. Not finding it, she dumped all the contents onto the floor, but it wasn't there. Perplexed, she checked the other trash bins in case someone moved them around, but the slide with Sammi's blood was nowhere to be found. Jenny's stomach fluttered; something definitely wasn't right.

"How badly did I screw up?" Sammi asked John as he joined her on the swing set at a nearby playground.

"Not bad," John shrugged, walking behind her to give the swing a gentle push.

"I should have paid closer attention to the list of lab assignments," Sammi sighed.

"Why would you?" John asked, pushing the swing higher. "It's not like you need to study the material."

Sammi worked her bottom lip with her teeth as she thought about what happened. It hadn't even occurred to her that one of the lab assignments would have been blood typing. If she'd just looked ahead, she could have taken the day off. Instead, she'd freaked her friend out and almost blew her and John's cover.

"This is harder than I thought," she sighed, dragging her feet in the dirt to stop the swing. "I hope I didn't hurt Jen's feelings too much."

"Nah, she's more worried about you than anything," he explained. "But we probably should get back. What story do you want to go with?"

"I wish we could tell her the truth," she laughed at the look on his face. "Not the whole truth! Just not a blatant lie."

"How about you were infected with a parasite, and you don't like people to know because it creeps them out?" John tried to be helpful.

"Ewww," Sammi wrinkled her nose. "Then she'll think I have real-life cooties or something."

"Okay, how about your dad was half alien?" John chuckled at his own joke.

"Why don't I just tell her that I'm a clone while we're at it," she rolled her eyes.

"You're no fun," he wrapped an arm around her shoulders, enjoying the feel of her arm around his waist as they walked back toward the school.

"I could tell her I'm one of the X-Men," Sammi grinned.

"That'd be too cool," John shook his head. "How about weird DNA that scientists want to study, but you want a normal childhood?"

"Not too far from the truth since the Naquadah did change my DNA a bit."

"It did?" John stopped to look at her. "I didn't know that."

"Yeah it's why—never mind," she flushed at what she was about to say.

"What?"

She shook her head, clearly unwilling to give him an answer.

"Seriously, what? Carter," he said in his command tone when she shook her head again.

"Fine," she huffed, years of training forcing her to answer. "It's why Janet told Sam she wouldn't be able to get pregnant."

"But Gracie?" John asked, referring to Sam and Jack's unborn daughter who was due in a couple of weeks.

"Jack's Atlantean genes make him, ummm, much more potent than the average man, plus he has traces of Naquadah, too," Sammi turned bright red.

"Really?" John's mouth gaped open.

"Jack knocked her up their first time together," Sammi confessed. John's look of smug pride was identical to Jack's when he found out.

"Stop grinning," Sammi smacked his arm playfully. "You know this means you're not allowed to even think about touching me."

"Oh, I've definitely thought about it," he waggled his eyebrows at her. "But I didn't know you did."

She tried to act insulted, but the look on his face was too contagious. "Of course, I've thought about it. Hell, I remember it."

John stopped in his tracks, his expression one of dawning awareness. John had been cloned about a year before Jack and Sam had gotten together, but Sammi was created after they'd been married. He cleared his throat and started walking again. His gait was stiff, causing her to giggle.

"No giggling," he said gruffly, his eyes dark with desire. Sammi's eyes widened at his reaction. She'd assumed he still had strong feelings for her but seeing the intensity of his reaction triggered a longing inside of her. She missed their intense physical connection. She missed how he could make her body draw tight and quiver and...

"There you are!" Jenny called as she ran across the grass to join them. "I was so worried," she stopped suddenly, her body language suggesting she wanted to hug Sammi, but didn't want to overstep.

Sammi's eyes met John's over her friend's shoulder; their moment interrupted, but not forgotten. "I'm fine, Jen," she finally broke eye contact with John when she reached for Jenny's hand to give it a squeeze.

"So what movie are we going to watch tomorrow night?" John asked, trying to change the subject, but his tone drew a curious look from Jenny who then looked to Sammi. She studied them intently. Her brow furrowed, but just when Sammi was sure she was going to call them out, Jenny cracked a grin.

"Anything but a cheesy romance," she made a gagging sound. "Gimme a good slasher film. I love rooting for the killer."

Both John and Sammi stared at her, neither expecting sweet and quiet Jenny to adore horror movies, especially ones where the bad guy won.

"What?" Jenny asked them, bewilderment etching her features.

Sammi busted out laughing. "You're just full of surprises, Jen," Sammi shook her head as the trio walked back into the school.
