Loud House: Rise of Akira
Ok readers this story's a bit different... first its not a crossover at all. Secondly its about the Loud's pet situation. I'd better explain a bit more. The family has four main pets Cliff the cat, Charles the dog, Walt the canary, and Geo the hamster. Though frankly Lana has the most pets of anyone like Bitey the rat, Izzy the lizard, El Diablo the snake and her best friend Hops the frog. Plus several more that haven't been given any names yet. Even Lucy has Fangs a pet bat and Luan having Gary a rabbit. Also the four main pets are named after famous cartoon artists. So why not Lincoln have something too? But what? Then it hit me, a beetle. Not just any beetle either. A Japanese Rhinoceros Beetle. This is the story of Akira! Named for Akira Toriyama the creator of Dragonball! One of the most premier anime of all time! Rated K+ for mild descriptions of cartoonish violence and rude/crude humor.
- Chapter 1 - Grubbin' It!
At Royal Woods Elementary School it was the last few minutes before school let out for the weekend. A Friday destined to be the best ever or so a certain white-haired boy thought. "Oh hey there everyone I had a feeling you'd be showing up about now. As you can tell by the clock it's about time for the weekend to start. And I can't wait since Smooch is playing at the mall again and this time me and my friends are all going. Good thing I bought the tickets two months ahead of time. This will be epic.'' Lincoln said noticing the readers.
His motley crew of friends included his best Clyde McBride still sad his beloved Lori Loud was out of town visiting Bobby in Great Lakes City. The easy going country boy Liam. The so-called ladies man Rusty Spokes with the wild red hair. The short redheaded conspiracy theorist Zach Gurdle, and the girl of the group Stella who'd recently moved to town.
"Aw man this concert's gonna be so cool. Thanks again for the tickets. But I gotta know... how'd ya get 'em?'' Rusty asked leaning on his desk like the suave talker he thought he was.
"Yeah these are front row seats. They cost an arm and a leg. How'd you get so many?'' Zach asked wondering how he even did it.
"Yeah what Zach said. How'd you do it?'' Stella asked too. The tickets were crazy expensive and the Loud's lived on a tight budget. So how'd Lincoln on his near microscopic earnings get these?
"C'mon Linc fess up how'd ya do it?'' Liam almost demanded nearly glaring holes into his friend.
During all of this Clyde simply smirked apparently knowing a detail they didn't. "Funny you ask. Remember when his sister Luna took to them the first time? They put us right on stage with them. We really rocked out. But last time he tried all his sisters blew through the cash his parents leaving nothing left him. They called Smooch to play at his house for a bit as a big thanks. Someone taped us and the video of us went viral with everyone loving how nice the guys of Smooch are making fan's feel like stars. A day ago Pucker Uppenheimer sent six front seat tickets as a thank you to supportive fans. Can you believe that?''

Frankly everyone's jaws dropped. They weren't expecting this answer. But it was still epically cool nonetheless. Glancing at the readers Lincoln spoke again. "Like Clyde said this weekend's gonna be epic. We are so gonna let the good times roll!'' He half yelled throwing up his rock out hand sign.
Watching and listening to the youngsters do the chitty-chat about their weekend plans had their teacher Mrs. Johnson thought back to the times she went riding mechanical bulls. Her phone vibrated. She saw a text message from Ms. Shrinivas. Something she needed help Lincoln's help with. Oddly enough. Within seconds the final bell rang signalling the end of the school week as the kids stormed out of their classrooms.
But before Lincoln or his group could hoof it to enjoy the weekend Mrs. Johnson called to him. "Oh Lincoln a word with you before leaving please? Oh don't worry you four he's not in trouble. It'll be just a few minutes.'' She said telling his friend's not to worry.
As his friends waited for him in the halls, Lincoln was given a very odd request by not just Mrs. Johnson but Ms. Shrinivas too who made her way there. She held a large plastic container filled with dried coconut bark, compost, and organic potting soil. "I know this is an odd request Lincoln but can you please take this Rhino beetle? Trying for something different I thought the class could watch them grow but they hated them wanting butterflies... eh like always. Even Lisa only sees them as test subjects I'd feel it'd be safer with you. I even printed the instruction for its care.''
The boy was awestruck by this. He was being trusted with a rejected class project? Well Ms. Shrinivas explained caring for it wasn't that hard so what did he have to lose from it? "Sure I don't see why not Ms. Shrinivas. Sounds a lot easier than caring for Frances. A grub can't crawl too far.''
The lone boy in the Loud family peered into the cage seeing a large white beetle grub laid hidden under a few of the coconut wood scraps. It stared back at him with its beady little eyes. "Good luck Lincoln! Oh and enjoy your Smooch concert!'' His redheaded teacher said to him as he joined his friends raring to enjoy the weekend.
His caught up with his friends each wondering just what his teacher wanted with him. Stella especially wanted the full details. "So what did Mrs. Johnson want with you?''
"Yeah what's in that there box? Looks kinda like the one Frances was in when you had her." Liam said noting its design specs more closely. ''Though looks taller and not as wide.''
"Yeah what's in it Linc?'' Rusty asked just as curious.
Truth be told Lincoln explained exactly what it was. "Its a beetle grub. Ms. Shrinivas said I should take it since her class wants butterflies instead. But now I forgot what kind it was. Oh well let's get ready for Smooch people!''
All of his friends gave a unanimous string of hollers in approval. Waiting for his mother with the family van named "Vanzilla" Lincoln was joined by his younger siblings, Lucy the gothic poet, Lana the plumber, Lola the pageant queen, and Lisa the 4 year old genius.
The young Louds packed themselves into the old family car, picked Lynn from the middle school, and Luan the family comedian, Luna the rock star sister, and Leni the fashionista from the high school and drove uneventfully home.
-Loud residence
At the home of the Louds aka 1216 Franklin Avenue Lincoln was shuffling around the things that called his dresser home. The newcomer to his little oasis of the chaotic house was given a spot where its container wouldn't get knocked over. Just a precaution to Lincoln in case of any crazy goings on. "Looking kinda sluggish in there buddy. Unlike Frances you can't sneak away on me so fast. C'mere... '' The boy said reaching in the cage bringing the juvenile insect closer to him.
Now seeing just how chunky the larva Lincoln's mind wondered just how big it grow to be. "Huh. You're one big grub. Wonder how big you'll get when you grow up?'' Then Lincoln's radio sounded off. "Oh, Clyde, I'll be meeting you and the others at the mall T-minus two and half hours."
His radio was then tuned to someone else. It was Rusty. "Roger that one big shot. Gives me time to work on my dance moves. Rockers love dancing. I'll let Liam, Zach and Stella know the time. The concert starts in two and half hours right?"
"Yup. In the meantime I'm gonna get some dinner in my stomach and my mom's on van standby. Just hope all goes well and nothing goes wrong.'' He said that last bit to himself.
Often Lincoln's best made plans even the ones with good intentions frequently backfired or blew up in his face. He prayed his sisters didn't get into some fight meaning the Sister Fight Protocol would be in full enforcement. He shuddered at that idea. Knowing he'd just have to play everything by the second and hope he could improvise if any trouble stirred up. As he lay on his bed someone knocked on his door. "Its open. I'm decent.'' He said giving the go ahead to open it.
It was Lisa his brainy four year old sister. "Eh pardon me elder brother unit, but ever since I returned home I've been hankering for a PB&J cut into isosceles triangles. If it would not trouble you too terribly I would like one to fill my duodenum. Street name: my stomach.'' Then she noticed Lincoln's new roommate laying comfy & cozy in his hands. "Hmm? Is this a representative of the Insect family Scarabaeidae?"
"By it being a beetle yeah it is.'' Lincoln said rolling his eyes with Lisa's constant use of technical jargon.
But glancing back at the readers then to his larval bug Lincoln realized something. "Y'know what? Lisa's right you need a name. Now what would suit you? Hercules?'' The grub shook its head not liking it. "Ok that sucked. What about Titan?'' Lincoln asked only his pet shook its head not liking that either. "Giant?'' Again another shake. "Grounder?'' Still another shake.
While not the sentimental type Lisa was getting impatient. "Lincoln will you just pick some kind of inane nomenclature for it already. Stop dragging your tarsals. As in your toe bones.''
When Lisa said the words ''dragging'' her brother had an epiphany. He knew just the name for it. "Oh I got it now. Akira. How's that?'' The young insect happily snapped its mandibles liking its name.
"Akira?'' Lisa repeated glancing at her brother and didn't know what he was talking about.
Her brother explained what meaning the name held to her. "After a famous manga artist. In the author of the best ever... DragonBall! Alright enough stalling you guys to the kitchen! Bet I can scrounge up something tastier for you than than that wood.''
-kitchen
Once the trio went to the kitchen their mother was busy wiping off the dust from the cupboard drawers. "Oh its so nice you're helping make a sandwich for Lisa. Being a gentleman will get you far.'' She said not even seeing the large bug clutching his shoulder. She was focused on getting the dust cleaned first and foremost.
But as she turned she did a double take. "Uh honey just what is that hugging your shirt?
"Huh? Oh this? Akira.'' Lincoln said without a care in the world.
She blinked at he went about finishing Lisa's PB&J. "It has a name? Go put it outside and let it go.''
Frustrated he knew a something like this might come up. He was not missing Smooch, not this time. "Oh c'mon mom lots of us have pets. Lucy has a bat. Luan has a bunny. And Lana she practically has her own farm upstairs. Plus throw in Cliff, Charles, Walt and Geo. We got enough animals to make our own private zoo. So please can I keep my bug? Its mostly just going to stay in its cage anyways.''
Sighing Mrs. Loud knew today wasn't good for arguments. He brought up way too good points. Lana did practically have her own zoo upstairs. If her son kept it safely in its cage then what was the harm? ''Alright fine you can keep Akira. Just keep an eye on it ok sweetie? You know how Leni and your father feel about spiders.''
Yet again showing off her brainyness Lisa corrected her mother's mistake. "Actually mother unit that is a larval insect. The class tarantula Frances was an arachnid. Two completely different kinds of arthropods. Many people have problems distinguishing them apart.''
With sandwich in hand Lisa went about whatever experiments she was doing back in her room. "You don't say? I noticed.'' She grumbled. Sometimes having a child genius had downsides too.
Seeing there wasn't any of Cliff or Charles wet food in the lower cupboards Lincoln had still another option for Akira's stomach. "Well Akira no soft dog or cat food here.'' The grub's face fell disappointed.
But hopefully his other idea was there somewhere in the drawers. "Hey uh mom, does Lily have any old fruit or veggie baby food left? Could Akira have it since its stale?''
"Actually there might be. Can't guarantee it's fruit or veggie though.'' She said looking through the fridge.
She found a small bunch of four jars with their labels mostly ripped off. She missed the fact they had small taped labels reading "cerebral improvement serum'', ''muscular system augmenter secretion'', ''geriatric longevity enhancement'', and ''volume expander solute'' on the bottom of the bottles. "Oh here they are honey. Looks like peaches, cherry, strawberry, and grape are all that's left. Is that ok?''
''That'll work just fine.'' He replied grabbing a spoon from the drawers.
He wondered why the labels were shredded but shrugged it off figuring whatever it was it didn't really matter right now. He spooned out some of the peach and Akira lapped it right up. "There buddy how's that, way better than some wood am I right?''
Again Akira clicked its jaws slurping up the delicious mashed fruit. As he did it his mother couldn't help but warm up a little to the fat bug. Her son was caring for it like Lily, his baby sister.
What the two didn't expect was said arachnophobic sister herself, Leni to waltz on into the kitchen to make one of her many smoothies with her hands in their usual ''raptor-arm'' style she had for 'reasons'. The second she laid eyes on Lincoln's new pet they narrowed and she got really nervous. "Uh, like what is that hanging on Linky's shirt? Is it a spider? Please tell me its, not like a spider.'' She asked petrified.
"Honey. Leni dear that's not a spider. Its a beetle or something. Relax. He named it Akira.'' Mrs. Loud patted her second oldest child's shoulders hoping she'd relax around her brother's new pet.
Gulping down her fear Leni figured she'd get a closer look at the newest member of the Loud House. ''Well since its not a spider maybe it's not so bad after all. I mean, it's kinda cute I guess. Especially with Linky feeding it like a baby." Still his pet was a giant creepy bug. "Just keep it Linky. Keep it." Then the grub blinked its beady eyes at her as the ditzy girl backs off. "Ew... It even blinked. At me no less."
Unlike with Frances at least Leni wasn't wasn't running around in terror from Akira. She just backed away from him very slowly. ''C'mon Akira try some of the strawberry.'' Lincoln said spooning out of that and letting Akira lap it up.
The door from the backyard opened up showing a Lana with very muddy shoes. Her mother stopped her right then and there. Grabbing a garbage bag, she sets Lana in the bag and sits her down at the table. As she relaxed her aching feet Hops sat perched atop her hat. "Boy I tell ya, had a really good day down at the pond, best part was Hops and I bumping into... Oh cool bug toy Lincoln! Where can I get one?" She said noticing Akira.
By then Lana's girly twin Lola waltzed her into the kitchen too. Leni by now was making yet another one of her many smoothie concoctions nervously glancing at the white critter stuck to his sleeve. The girly girl saw Akira, gasps and squealing. "Hey? Just what is that? Oh that doll's so adorable! The way you're feeding it like a baby, I didn't know you had dolls like that Linky. I misjudged you."
Narrowing his eyes Lincoln told the twins exactly what was afoot. "Uh Lola I hate to break this to you but this isn't a plush toy. It's a real bug. And no you or Lana can play with him. Am I clear? After that whole mess with Frances I'm not taking chances."
The beauty queen awkwardly realized her brother has feeding a huge bug on his shoulder. And he was feeding baby food no less. "Oh. You... you're serious. Its real? You're giving it baby food?'' Lola blinked hardly knowing what was crazier the giant bug he had or the fact he was feeding like a baby doll. "Ok that's weird.''
Rolling his eyes Lincoln patted the grub's head. No negativity was allowed around his new pet. For any reason. "It's not weird is it Akira? In fact Akira you're gonna get big and strong once you... what was the word Mrs. Johnson used? Oh yeah pupate! You'll be a lot bigger once you pupate. Mom I'll take Akira upstairs and this old food. That and I gotta get ready for Smooch. Can't be a mooch give life a smooch. Woo-yeah!'' He hollered sporting his rock 'n roll posing.
And quickly Lincoln went back upstairs to put Akira back in its enclosure. Dinner went smoother than ever before, as Lynn Sr. the family wizard of all things culinary made something spontaneous that night. Walking tacos. With every possible topping (though for some reason the forks spooked him). The topic though was Lincoln's new pet Akira. Lucky for him his matter has able to persuade his father to let the grub stay.
-later after supper
Later as Lincoln got his tickets and his rock outfit from last time he saw Smooch. Akira was digging around its soil debris without a care in the world. Since he was worried about his new roommate he had two of his sisters watch out for the little grub while he was out rockin'.
The two he chose? Luna and Lisa. "Alright you two I was just given Akira today so I don't want anything happening to it. For no reason none at all can anyone take it out of its cage and go wild. Unlike me and my posse tonight. Except for emergencies like a fire. All I'm asking is you to check up on the little bug seven times in a half hour. Make sure its comfortable. Can you do that for me?''
Not really into this whole bug keeping thing Luna still figured helping her bro out was the least she could do. Considering how much he helped her out. "Ah hmm... I'll see if I can come up with something brah. After all they say music soothes the savage beast, eh little dudette?''
Blinking Lisa knew that phrase, however everyone though misquoted it or took it out of context. "Pardon me third eldest sibling but that is not quite accurate. The idiom in question is actually a misquote of a line from the play called ''The Mourning Bride'' from 1697. It was written by the the British poet William Congreve. He originally wrote this as 'music hath charms to sooth a savage breast'. To my second point most insects don't have any auditory sense. Street name: ears. Including those of the Order Coleoptera. The beetles in other words. Though to be honest termites a few studies have been known to chew wood faster when hard rock and heavy metal are playing. The sounds aren't being heard but its suggested their small bodies are themselves being vibrated.''
"Huh? Aww man.'' Luna said hearing that now disappointed. "And I was gonna do a slow mellow jam for it.''
"So that's a... yes?'' Lincoln asked them both.
They both nod yes. That was relief. He hoped finding a grub-sitter wouldn't be too hard. Worries over he thought. "Lincoln you ready up there? You don't wanna be late for your Smooch concert. I already called your friends and let them know I'll be picking them up.'' His mother called to him.
Leaving the girls to watch over Akira Lincoln headed to the bathroom to take a leak before he left. Before he went in responded. "Ok mom. That's fine. I'm be ready in just a few minutes. Ooh I am so be ready to rock and roll tonight. And rock every day!''
And so Lincoln left with his mom driving Vanzilla picking up his friends along the way and finally arriving at the Royal Woods Mall he, Stella, Clyde, Zach, Rusty, and Liam rocked the night away to Smooch. The band even invited the six on stage for more rocking out.
However unknown to anyone especially Lisa the jars of old baby food were in fact meant for a laboratory experiment with goldfish. They were in fact a growth accelerator, intelligence booster for getting smarter, a strength enhancement serum for getting stronger, and finally a volume expansion chemical. In short it was for making the test subject bigger. The jars were underneath her brother's bed stowed away in case Akira wanted something tasty to lap up. Her carelessness would have huge unforeseen consequences for Akira. But the results of their impact wouldn't be fully realized until his completed metamorphosis. Or when he became an adult beetle.
