CAROLINE GRASPED the cold cover fiercely, on her steering wheel which gave her palm a stinging sensation. Tears welled up in her eyes as a pounding headache appeared in the center of her forehead, and she wiped her nose with her palm as drops of blood escaped. Caroline calmed her breathing by placing her palm on her chest and softly pressing down.

Caroline pulled up in front of a modest house with a white picket fence, the yard was newly groomed, and a small porch swing swayed gently in the air. She looked around and noticed cars parked in driveways and a few individuals going down the street with their dogs or young children. Her eyes fell upon a strawberry-blonde– four-year-old girl who had the biggest smile on her.

She was spinning with her arms outstretched, blowing bubbles in the air, and looking at the bubbles, which shimmered with wonder. A little bubble fell on her button nose, as she stared at it carefully before it popped, causing her to quietly giggle. Caroline smiled to herself as she observed the small girl's delight at such a simple thing.

Caroline goes up to the little girl slowly with nothing but warmth and love. With her back to Caroline, the girl freezes as she detects light footsteps on her way. The little girl gently turns around and tilts her head to look at the elder blonde, as she murmurs as her eyes well up with tears and her lips curve up into a broad grin. "Momma..."

"Hi, Athena."

Caroline takes another step forward as the beautiful girl drops her bubble maker and runs to Caroline with outstretched arms, throwing herself at her. The girl sobs as she puts her arms around Caroline's neck and screams into her hair as Caroline catches her and embraces her securely.

"I was missing you, my sweet girl." Athena nods and tightens her grip. "I missed you too, momma," she says, looking into her mother's eyes.

Caroline clings to her daughter with tears in her ocean blue orbs. So much has happened in a short time that she had to deal with alone because she felt she couldn't tell anyone. She is a teenage mother, with incredible power including her daughter and she was in danger as she had to get rid of the enemy.

All alone, dealing with a massive amount of pain but it was all worth it because now she can take her daughter home; even though her friends are in a dispute with the original family but she will stay out of it because her daughter comes first.

Athena pulled back as she stared at her mother with nothing but glee to see her and she finally gets to go back home. She might be four years old but like her mother said, she is special. Athena had been hiding with mother's friend, "You are hurt, momma."

Caroline had a scar in her eyebrows and purplish and yellowish color on her neck that spread lightly across her body. She was in unbearable pain but it was all worth it. She closes her eyes thinking back to finally ending the all people that tried to kill her and her daughter.

Caroline caressed her cheek, "I am okay, my sweet girl."

Athena clung back to her mother. Caroline picked her up as she stared at a beautiful girl with tan olive skin and beautiful brown locks, "Thank you Nora, for everything."

Nora gave her a tight smile, "Anytime. I will miss you troublemaker."

Athena gave her big toothy smile, "I'll miss you too, Nor."

Nora gave her a smile as Caroline gave her another tight smile as her and Athena waved her goodbye. Caroline put Athena in the backseat making sure her seatbelt is strapped in. Caroline got them home safely as Athena rushed to her mom's room. Caroline chuckled at her excitement.

Caroline threw her keys on the side table and made her way to her room where she saw Athena holding a bracelet and picture. Athena turned to her, "Momma you have a charming prince?"

Caroline chuckled, Klaus as prince charming? Whether she admits to herself or not; he was better fit to be king. She sighs why do all the bad guys have to be so hot? Caroline sat next to her daughter, "Kind of. He saved my life so he gave me these gifts to make me feel better."

Well that is what she thought anyways. She could see it in his eyes the struggle he has to open up and that is what a thousand years does to you. You build up these walls so no one can get in. She turned to Athena who played with her toys. Kids get so easily distracted.

She heard a knock on her front door. She saw Athena run down the stairs as if it was for her, Caroline let out a chuckle as she rushed down the stairs. Opening there was no one there but a big box, she grabbed the box inside the living room. Athena's eyes widened in excitement, "Open, it momma."

Caroline gave her tight smile as she opened it with an envelope on top. Opening the envelope she read the words

Please join the Mikaelson Family, this evening at seven o'clock.

Caroline set the note aside as inside the box was a beautiful mix of blues and silver diamonds on a corset, with a beautiful fluffy silk. Athena grabbed the note and saw the dress, "Momma you are going to a ball?"

Caroline sighs, as she can't because her mother won't be here to take care of Athena and she really not sure if kids are allowed anyways. She shook her head, "I don't think, I can go sweet girl, because who will take care of you?"

Athena glances down in guilt. She really wanted her mother to be happy and not worry so much for her. Especially since many bad people want her and her mother gone. She knows her mother does not tell her anything but like her momma said she is special. She felt tears coming out of her, "I am sorry momma."

Caroline gasped as she put the dress back in the box, "You have nothing to be sorry for. I love you and I would rather be here with you, okay?"

Athena nodded as Caroline kissed her cheek. Athena moved to play with her doll as Caroline took out her phone and clicked on Klaus' contact which she has, him as 'the big bad.' She debated on the correct words to say but she clicked and sent it off.

Hey, thank you for the dress, it is beautiful, but I can not go. I will make sure to return it!

She put her phone down, wondering what she missed in her day gone. But part of her does not want to deal with any of the drama as she will distance herself and focus on her studies and daughter. Her thoughts broke when there was a knock at the door. She stood up, made her way to the door and opened.

Her eyes are fell on blonde curls, with a tight dimple smile for her. Her eyes widened in shock, "Klaus."

"Hello, love."

He went inside the house without giving Caroline time to react. She cursed herself and quickly followed him to the living room. Thankfully at the time Athena was not there as she probably went to grab another toy.

Klaus turned to her, he was going to ask her why she can't go but the scar on her brow and the bruises on her neck caught his attention. He clenched his jaw at the thought anyone putting their hands on her, "What happened to you?"

Caroline tilts her head in confucain. Klaus took a step forward as he gently caressed her scar and neck. Caroline sighs not wanting to explain so she changed the topic, "Thank you for the dress, but I can't go."

Klaus narrows his eyes at the topic change. He will let it go for now but he will return to it and find exactly what happened. He raises his brow, "And why is that?"

Caroline sighs as she was going to reply but footsteps coming her way. Athena came in with paper and color pencils as she sat down on the floor not noticing Klaus. Caroline rolled her eyes as to why she had the worst luck.

She noticed Klaus looking at Athena in shock, it took everything in her not to laugh at the original hybrid being stunned by a four year old girl.

Caroline takes forward as nudges Athena. Athena looks at her mother who points in front of her, "Klaus this my daughter Athena. And my sweet girl this is my friend, Klaus."

Athena gave a big toothy smile, "Hi!"

Klaus broke out of his stance as he bent down next to her, "Hello, little one."

Athena let out a giggle. Caroline smiles at the scene, as she bent down next to Klaus and carefully whispered to his ear, "I can't go because I have no one to take care of her."

Klaus nodded in understanding. He stood up and helped Caroline up as Athena stayed drawing. Caroline led him to the kitchen, "So.."

Klaus chuckled at her nervousness, "Is okay, love. You can bring her, I don't mind."

Caroline gave a cheeky smile, "Are you sure? What about your family?"

Klaus grabbed her hand and stared into her ocean orbs, "Is fine. But we will go back to that conversation of your bruises on your neck and the scar."

"It was a bad guy."

They both turned around to see Athena holding her tight stuffed bear. Caroline sighs, kids can be so open about everything. Klaus clenches his jaw at the fact that someone hurt her and she just stayed quiet.

Athena climbed on the stool and gave him a big toothy smile, "But is okay momma handle him. Since the bad guy wanted to hurt me and momma."

Klaus's eyes flared with rage. The fact that someone wanted to hurt Caroline angered him but to hurt a little girl as well, filled him with unbearable rage. He turned to see Caroline as her eye's darken and she moved to Athena, "No one will ever hurt you my sweet girl."

Klaus was going to say something but he got a text from his sister saying he needs to get back to the mansion. Klaus glances at the two girls who are smiling while they hold a paper. Caroline glances at him that makes his heart fluster, "You have to go?"

Klaus nodded as he kissed her cheek that left Caroline a slight blush which caused him to give a slight smirk. He turned to Athena and gave her a small kiss on her head, "Bye little, one."

Athena smiled at him and waved him off, "By kla-us."

Klaus chuckled at her and made his way out with his heart full of warmth. He shook his head as he flashed to his house.

Caroline had a slight smile on her face as she turned to Athena who had a mischievous glint in her eyes, "What?"

"Nothing momma."

Athena smiled to herself as Klaus will be the perfect prince charming for mother. Caroline waved her off, "Come on sweet girl we have a ball to get ready for."

Caroline had her hair up in a braid bun with two blonde strands in front of her face, as Athena wore a beautiful light lavender dress with her hair half up and down with butterflies clips on it. They stood outside as Caroline looked at her daughter, "Stay with me at all times."

Athena nodded at her mother as Caroline grabbed her hand and they entered the mansion. Caroline immediately felt eyes on her. Athena spotted Klaus and tugged her mother to Klaus, as she greeted him happily, "Hi, Klaus."

Caroline saw him in his tuxedo, her breath stopped in her throat. All of her recollections paled in comparison to the stunning man approaching her. She took a big breath and gulped before approaching him. She came to a halt just in front of him. She could feel her knees weakening as he grinned, "Hi, little one."

His eyes moved to Caroline, "Hello, Love."

Caroline smiled at him as she whispered a small hi. He chuckled at her, "Will you like to have this dance?"

Caroline gave him a small smile ready to reject when Athena answered for her, "She will."

Klaus chuckle at her enthusiasm as Caroline rolled her eyes knowing her daughter, "Stay here, where I can see you."

Athena nodded as Klaus guided Caroline to the dance floor. Caroline felt a heat fill her body as she felt Klaus's arm on her. He gave her a soft look, "I heard about your father."

Caroline knew he meant well.But she was not ready, "Please, change the subject."

Klaus nodded. "Very well" He replied, knowing how hurt she must be,"Onto more pressing matters, such as how ravishing you look this evening."

Caroline averted her eyes and blushed at the compliment as she let out a small laugh, "Thank you, but I didn't have time to shop."

Klaus smiled at her response, "And the bracelet I gave you, what is your excuse for wearing that?"

Caroline smiled at his teasing, "It matched the dress, and I thought it was fitting for the evening."

Caroline peaked behind to see Athena smiling with her thumbs up, Caroline had rolled her eyes as she stuck her tongue at her daughter. Klaus glancing back at Athena and Caroline he let out a small chuckle in amusement. He twirled Caroline, "You know you are quite the dancer."

Caroline stared into his gorgeous blue orbs, as she gave him a proud smile. "Well, I've had training. I happen to be Miss Mystic Falls."

"I know."

Caroline rolled her eyes as they continued to dance. The song eventually ended as Caroline pulled away as she went to Athena with her face stuffed with cupcakes. Caroline chuckled as she teased her daughter, "They're good?"

Athena nodded as she stuffed more in her. Caroline had the brightest smile on her to see her daughter so happy. She turned to see her friends, she tried to stifle her laugh as Elena looked hilarious with her two bodyguards and Bonnie looked like she wanted to anywhere but here.

She sat next to Athena scanning the room for Klaus, who was his siblings in deep conversation. She felt a tap on shoulder, she turned around and it was Bonnie, Caroline stood as she wrapped her arms around her, as Bonnie teased her, "Someone getting comfy with the big bad."

Caroline rolled her eyes as she pulled away Bonnie had worry in her eyes as she stared at Caroline's scar, "What happened?"

Caroline waved off as they both turned to Athena who gleamed at Bonnie, "Hi auntie Bon."

Bonnie laughed as she waved at her. Caroline grabbed a napkin to get rid of the frosting on her daughter's cheek. Bonnie sat next to her as Caroline had Athena in her lap. They both felt four shadows on them, revealing Klaus, Elijah, Kol, and Rebekah.

Caroline and Bonnie both gave them a delicate smile, as the Mikaelson family (Besides Klaus) glanced at Athena in wonder. Caroline stood up as Athena was on her waist, "This is my daughter, Athena."

Athena waved at them, "You all have amazing cupcakes."

They all chuckled at that as Esther called forward to the whole mansion to face her and Finn. The waiters passed out champagne, Caroline grabbed one as sniff it narrowing her eyes. Klaus and his siblings notice her behavior, "What is it, love?"

Caroline glanced at them back to the cup, "There's some weird type of magic coming from the drink."
