Introduction to the Armageddon 2493 Saga
In 2000, a British gentleman by the name of Neil Adams released a story titled ARMAGEDDON 2493, which is still hosted on galacticafanfic. It is a feature-length crossover story between the Buck Rogers and Battlestar Galactica shows from the late 1970s. I fell in love with it, and between that and the (now) late Richard Hatch's series of published Battlestar Galactica novels which were being released around that time, I really got back into my fandom with those TV shows.
In the decades (yes, decades) since, Ronald D. Moore and David Eick rebooted Battlestar Galactica, and there has even been an abortive attempt to reboot Buck Rogers, with the demo pilot even featuring Gil Gerard and Erin Gray. If you're interested, search YouTube for "Buck_sepia_bean_web". And, of course, time has now further passed in which we the public can reflect back on the full scope of all of these offerings, hopefully also getting beyond some of the rancorous rivalries between fans of Original BSG and NuBSG. And while it's true that I was never much of a fan of Ron and Dave's story, their show itself was a master class in everything to do with producing a science fiction tv series, from the script writing to the acting to sets, props, and everything else.
Nonetheless, I've never given up on or let go of the original. I've also never given up on 70s Buck Rogers, despite its not inconsiderable lightweight-ness and cheese, to put it mildly. I have long wanted to try and fix those deficiencies which an adult eye of the 21st century cannot possibly help but notice. Also, I wanted to greatly expand upon the universe of Buck Rogers. The germ of it, as explored by the (now) late Glen A. Larson, had at least as much hidden potential as did his original BSG series.
Originally, I started working on a follow-up writing project in the very early 2000s, and for the longest time I did lots and lots of pre-development work, trying to figure out the universe for both shows, with an earnest desire to do a much more sophisticated job of bringing them to life. If you look at the other book project I have posted here, which I will continue to expand with many of the materials I generated, you'll have a very good idea of what I mean.
This writing project is a work of love and passion and dedicated to the many amazing folk both in front of as well as behind the camera of the two shows from my childhood which have always meant so much to me. It's also dedicated to all of you fine readers out there, some of whom like me grew up with these two shows, and the many who did not and may or may not have grown up with later iterations. I sincerely hope you enjoy what I am continuing to work on, as well as your gracious patience as I work on it. I also look forward to your positive and constructive feedback.
