Chapter 1: Drew

Here in this beautiful city of Petalburg…lives the Royal Family of Hoenn. The beautiful Princess…and her loving parents, the King and Queen. The Princess is loved by everyone in Hoenn. Teenage boys around her age often wink at her, and whistle. Her beauty is undeniable. And she's used to so much attention from boys that she just ignores their winks, and just gets on with her Princess duties.

Her name is May. She has long brown hair, and blue eyes. She treats every citizen she meets with such respect like a Princess should. And she's very thankful to her people for respecting her family.

Today, May is in her carriage once again riding through the city. She loves doing that every day, so she can check up on the people, and make sure they're safe from danger.

The civilians on the sides of the street wave to her. She smiles, and waves back.

"We love you, Princess May!"

"Thank you for always helping us every day!"

"You're the best Princess ever!"

May beams at the wonderful compliments. "I'm just doing my job." She called back.

She continues to see the rest of the city until dinner time.

"It's time to head back." She told her coachman.

"As you wish, Your Highness."

On their way back to the palace, a ball of some sort came flying at them. It hit the carriage in front of the coachman, and exploded into powder. The coachman and his horse breathe it in, and try to cough it out.

"What was that?" May asked worriedly, standing up to look at the horse.

The horse is slowing down while his eyes are slowly closing. The coachman's eyes close as well. May gasped when the carriage came to a complete stop.

"C-coachman?"

No response.

May carefully exits the carriage, and gazes up at the coachman. "Asleep? While sitting? What was that powder that I saw?"

The sound of chuckling and footsteps could be heard from behind her. She slowly turns around, meeting the dark eyes of two men. They have wicked smirks directed toward May.

"H-Hello." May greeted nervously. "I haven't seen you around here before…are you new to Petalburg?"

The men don't answer her question. They just started approaching her. She backs up into the horse with fear written on her face.

"W-what are you doing?"

No response.

The two men just grab both of May's arms. She winces in pain.

"Hey! Let go of me!"

"Why would we do that?" The man on the left asked. "You're going to fetch us a pretty penny."

May stares at the two men with fear. They're going to sell her. That much she's figured out. But who exactly are these guys?

"But not before you open your palace's Jewel Room for us." The other man said.

May furrowed her eyebrows, suddenly gaining confidence. She needs to protect her palace and kingdom from threats like these two. "I'd never do that for you."

"Oh, really? Then I guess we'll have to make you."

Both men squeeze May's wrists tighter. She yelps in pain.

"Get your hands off of me!" May tries to free her wrists, but it's no use. Both men smirk, and tighten their hold on her. "Release me this instant, or I'll be forced to send you both to the dungeon!"

"Yeah. I'm so scared of you." Man 1 said sarcastically.

"You should be!"

Both men laugh at May's pathetic attempts to free herself. One of them reaches into his pocket still holding May's wrist with his other hand. He pulled out another one of those balls, and threw it at May's chest. They quickly backed away from her.

The powder causes May to cough before slowly putting her to sleep. "You…you won't…" She wobbles, trying to keep her balance. "You won't…get away…with this."

The last thing she sees before passing out is someone with green hair fighting the two. She fully starts falling forward with her eyes closed. The green-haired teenage boy catches her in his arms, leaving the two men unharmed.

"It's up to you, Drew." Man 1 told the green-haired boy.

Drew nodded in understanding. Both evil men walk away.

Drew looks at the sleeping Princess. He lifts her up bridal style before walking the opposite way of the two men. Thankfully, no civilians are around to witness what just happened. That'll ruin their whole plan.

Drew walks into an alleyway. At the end of it, he places May on the ground. He sits down against a wall to wait for her to wake up.

Drew's watch makes a beeping sound. He stands up, and walks a few feet away from May. He clicks a button on his watch and a blue hologram appears above it.

"Mother, father." Drew acknowledged the two people that called him on his watch.

"Drew, how's the mission going?" Father asked.

"According to plan." Drew answered. "I have the Princess still asleep, and no one knows that she's here."

"Good. Now, just remember the plan, and contact us when the next step is complete."

Drew nodded. "I will."

His parents hung up.

"Mmm…"

Drew turned around when he heard a sound come from May. He walked to her, and kneeled down. He took a deep breath before starting his act with a fake worried expression.

May's eyes slowly opened. She met Drew's worried green ones. She blinked, and suddenly sat up, scooting away from the stranger. "W-who are you? Where am I?"

"Are you alright, Princess?" Drew asked.

"I-I…what happened?"

"You were attacked." Drew stood up. "By evil people that wanted to steal your palace's gold."

May gasped. "That's right…I remember now."

"I saved you." Drew added, reaching out his hand. May stares at it for a moment, and then looks back into his eyes. She hesitated before taking his hand. He pulled her to her feet.

"You…really saved me from them?" May asked.

Drew nodded.

"…th-thank you."

Drew smiled. "You're very welcome, Your Highness. I couldn't just stand back, and watch them threaten the Princess."

May smiled slightly. "A normal civilian wouldn't have had the confidence to do what you did." She pauses. "What's your name?"

"Drew."

"Well, Drew, thank you again. I should be going back to the palace now. My parents must be wondering where I am."

Drew nodded. He took May's hand, lifted it up, and placed a kiss on it as one of the ways boys greet the Princess. He stares into her eyes, releasing her hand. "It was such a pleasure to meet you, Your Highness."

May smiled. "You as well. Maybe I'll see you around?"

"Of course. I live in this city, after all."

"Then…until next time." She walked past Drew.

Drew turned around to watch May leave the alleyway. He smirked evilly. "I'm looking forward to it…"

The next day, May got called to the Throne Room. She entered with a smile. She curtsied to her parents. "Mother, Father."

"May, we need to speak with you about something important." King Norman said, expressionless.

"What is it?"

"You will no longer be able to leave the palace on your own. Four guards will accompany you."

"What? But why?"

"You ran into some thieves yesterday, didn't you?" Queen Caroline asked.

May gasped softly. ("I never told them about that yesterday. How did they find out?") She sighed. "Yes, Mother."

"Your coachman told us that he was knocked out with some sleep powder." Norman said. "Now it's your turn to tell us the rest of the story."

("The reason I didn't tell them was because I knew they'd do this…") May frowned. "O-okay, Father…You see…the two thieves tried to make me open the Jewel Room for them. A-and I think they were going to sell me."

Norman furrowed his eyebrows. "How dare they threaten royalty. They'll be taught a lesson if we can find them."

"And also…I was saved."

"Saved by who?" Caroline asked.

"A commoner."

"A commoner saved you?"

May nodded. "He fought off those thieves."

"Are you sure?" Norman asked. "No commoner has ever tried to protect us."

"I'm positive. He's really nice…"

Caroline smiled. "Well then, I say we should personally thank that person for protecting you."

May smiled brightly. "Great."

"Do you know where he lives?"

"All he told me is that he lives in this city."

"Hmm…then, next time you leave the palace, keep an eye out for him."

May nodded. "Of course."

May waves to the civilians as she rides down a street in her carriage. All the Royal Guards know how to ride horses, so the four that her father sent with her are on horseback on either side of the carriage.

The civilians wave to their beloved Princess.

In the corner of May's eye, she spots some green beyond a group of civilians. She turns her head, meeting the green-haired boy's green eyes. He seems to be twirling a rose between his fingers, and leaning against a wall. When he meets her eyes, he smiles.

May returns the smile. "That's him. Coachman, pull over, please."

When the carriage stops on the side of the street, May gets out of it. Civilians let her pass, bowing to her as she does. She stops at Drew, the Royal Guards standing behind her.

Drew stands up straight, and bows. "Your Highness."

"I can't believe how quick I found you." May said.

Drew looks at her. "Were you looking for me?"

"Yes. I told my parents that you saved me yesterday, and they want to personally thank you."

"Personally?"

May nodded. "Can you swing by the palace later?"

Drew's eyes widened. "I'm invited inside?"

"Mm hm. So, will you?"

Drew smiled. "Absolutely."

"Great! I'll see you later then." May turned to leave, but Drew stopped her.

"Wait."

She looked at him.

Drew held out the rose to May. "For you."

May's mouth opens in shock. "W-what? I-I mean…excuse me?"

Drew smiles lovingly at May. He gently places the rose in May's hair above her left ear. "It's to compliment your beauty…Princess."

May blushes. She quickly turns around to hide it. "Th-thank you, Drew. I'll see you later." She walks away, and enters the carriage again. The guards get on their horses.

Drew smirks as he watches May's carriage drive away.

May feels her heart while breathing heavily. "Why is my heart beating so fast?" She asked herself quietly. She reached up and took the rose out of her hair. She stares at it. "So beautiful…" She smiles. "I'm looking forward to seeing him again…"
