"You should just take a swan dive off the roof."
Kacchan's words echoed in Izuku's ears. Kacchan was going to become a great hero one day. Not just because he had the quirk for it but also the brains and the dedication required to reach the top. Izuku knew that, his classmates knew that, his entire school knew that. That's why they turned a blind eye to his...misconduct.
After all, what was the pain of the few now compared to the many Bakugou would save in the future? Izuku laughed bitterly at that thought. It mattered to him.
He picked up his notebook. Another one damaged and burnt, but not unsalvageable. The day he'd think something couldn't be saved was the day he'd have truly given up on becoming a hero. Maybe that's why he kept giving Bakugou chance after chance.
That's why Izuku also knew, that Kacchan would become a great hero but he would never become a good one.
Sighing, the green haired boy started walking back home. School ended quite a while ago, most of the students would've returned to their homes by now. It was when he took a turn at the school gate he unexpectedly bumped into someone.
"Sorry!" He apologized and bent his head low, but not after glancing at the person he bumped into. It was a purple haired boy wearing...was that Nabu Middle's school uniform? That school was pretty far. Regardless, it wasn't a classmate. It was actually an accident, not a prank or trap on the quirkless kid. And he didn't see anyone else nearby. "I was lost in my thoughts!"
"I-Its okay," The boy sounded tired and another glance showed pretty deep eyebags. He oddly reminded Izuku of a panda, but purple. "It wasn't your fault, I didn't see..." The purple panda's voice trailed off.
Izuku was surprised. Purple panda had a look of recognition on his face, he knew Izuku somehow. Even though Izuku didn't remember ever seeing him before. But rather than the look of disgust or superiority he'd expected from someone who knew of his quirklessness, he saw fear.
Honest to god fear. He looked like his worst nightmare came true.
"What are you doing here?"
Ah, purple panda probably confused him for someone else. Better to clear up any misunderstandings, who knows, it might be a chance to make a friend! "I'm actually-"
A weird feeling washed over Izuku. His head felt light and his body numb. He was about to say something, why couldn't he speak?
"How- Are you okay?"
"Yes."
And as it started, it was gone. The feeling, the loss of control...
"Is that your quirk?" Midoriya's eyes sparkled, "Brainwashing? Or would mind control be more apt? That's amazing! How long does it last for usually? Is there a trigger? I mean it happened after I answered you so I'm assuming you can only activate it if someone talks to you, are you able to mind control anyone who speaks to you or does it only work if they're responding back to you? What about sign language? Are you limited to verbal conversation? What if its a language you don't speak or understand, does it still work? Oh I'm Izuku Midoriya, by the way. But your quirk has so much potential, imagine hostage situations! Or spy infiltration? Hey have you ever thought about being a hero?"
Had Izuku not been so preoccupied with dissecting the purple haired boy's quirk, he would have noticed the expression on his face. He still did notice that the boy had started to back away.
"I'm sorry!" He apologized once again, waving his hands in front of his face embarrassed, "I didn't mean to overwhelm you, I'm so sorry it's a habit!"
"That's not what I-" Purple panda bit his lip, his expression changing from pained to conflicted. He hid his face with his hands and stood like that for a few seconds.
Izuku waited patiently. It seemed like the other boy needed help. "Do you want some water?"
He shook his head. Then he looked Izuku in the eyes, distressed yet determined, and asked a simple question, "Can you do something for me?"
"Of course!"
And just like that, Izuku lost control of his body once again. He felt like he was floating. A sentence was resonating in his brain, a compulsion to do something. He needed to walk. He had to go back to the school building. Purple panda told him something, what did he tell him? He felt his legs climb the stairs. Oh that's right. He remembered. It was a simple request. It was what he was doing right now. He just had to get to the roof. He just had to get to the roof.
"And jump off it."
That sounded familiar. Had he already done that for someone? He opened the door to the roof. Yes, that's what Kacchan had told him too. Why had Kacchan asked him to do that? Huh, he wanted Izuku to kill himself.
Wait.
Something's wrong.
Izuku felt himself walk to the edge of the roof.
Something's wrong.
He shouldn't be doing this.
Something's wrong.
He felt his hands grip the fence at the edge of the roof.
NO! He wanted to become a hero. He couldn't do that if he was dead.
The wind ruffled his hair. His grip loosened from the fence and he fell.
.
.
.
He fell back to the rooftop, his back hitting the ground with a thud.
Midoriya gasped, regaining control over his mind and body. His heart thumped in his chest, adrenaline rushing through his veins. The purple haired boy had just tried to make him commit suicide. Why?
The same purple haired boy who now stood on the ground right below Izuku. His phone in his hands, about to call the police about a suicide attempt. The boy realized he had had failed the moment Izuku made eye contact with him. He turned and ran.
Izuku ran in pursuit. He dropped his bag somewhere, He didn't know where. He just wanted to find out. Why? He almost died!
By the time he reached the ground, the boy was gone.
Just what on earth happened. Why had a random stranger just tried to kill him?
A/N: Me getting an idea for a fanfic at 12am. Spent the next four hours planning through and writing this down. My sleep deprived ass probably doesn't make any sense right now. This is a pretty short story, it'll probably end with 2 or 3 chapters. More like a oneshot honestly. I have an exam this week so might get the next chapter out by next week. There are a few parts I might edit or just wanna touch up on later. I'm hoping the next update would clear out what exactly is happening. I assume most of you would be able to guess who purple panda is. The brainwashing is a dead giveaway after all.
Constructive criticism always appreciated!
