Spoilers for Episodes 8-22. I am also using a few parts of the TV-Show's original dialogue from time to time so you know where we are and what it is about. I hope the original writers don't mind. I don't own anything. I just love the show too much to let it end. Hope you like it.

Chapter 1

Steve slept through 90% of the flight. Danny had tried to wake him for some food but he was still way too tired to make food a priority. The sleepy eyes that looked at Danny made him regret waking his friend.
"Sorry, Steve. Just go back to sleep."
Danny hadn't even finished his sentence when the former SEAL already was.

Back at his house Steve took a long and hot shower.
He ordered a pizza and while he was waiting for it, he downed two bottles of water.
He emptied another one while eating the ordered food.
Then he went to sleep.
The nightmares returned though which made it a fitful sleep.
He was sleeping through most of them but he also woke up sweating and breathing heavily after two others.
When he finally decided to get up almost 20 hours had passed but he didn't feel rested at all.
The following two nights weren't any better and every morning he sat on his bed thinking about the events and the what-ifs.
He decided to get back to work to get distraction and think about something else and probably useful things.
He saw the surprise and even some kind of dismay on his co-workers faces as well as their concern. But he didn't want to explain himself und they got to work.

They solved the case but Steve couldn't feel any satisfaction.
He drove to Kamekona's food truck and already saw a few members of the team sitting at the table but he couldn't bring himself to get out of his truck.
It wasn't long before Quinn joined him and tried to cheer him up. She had reminded him what they had achieved what that meant for a lot of people and for the security of the island. He knew she was right but he still couldn't enjoy their success.
After Quinn had left, Steve called Danny and apologized for not answering his friend's texts, told him that he just misses his mom.
"I know you do. That's okay. It will take some time. That's why I thought you would take a little longer to return to work."
"News travels fast, huh?"
"It does. Yes. You sure this was a good idea?"
"No. But staying at home wasn't either. I couldn't stop thinking about everything."
"I know it is hard. I had the same problems when Matty got killed.
Do you remember what you've told me back then?"
"It wasn't your fault."
"Exactly. And neither is this yours. Okay?"
"I know. Still not easy to get over it though.
Thanks for your texts. I think I need to go now before they come and get me. They are already watching – all of them."
"Okay. Tell them I miss them too."
"I will. Love you."
"Love you too."
