"She's waking up," Julieta called. Pepa's green eyes flickered open. She didn't recognize the room; she knew it wasn't Julieta's clinic. Pepa assumed it was the hospital in the Encanto. She didn't remember what led her to end up here.
"Oh, mi Preciosa Gota de Lluvia is finally awake," Alma sobbed.
"Mami?" Pepa croaked out. Alma covered her second-born's face in kisses. She kissed every inch of visible skin on Pepa's face. Pepa was shocked. I can't remember the last time mamá was this affectionate. "What happened?"
"Pepa, you were in a car accident," Julieta said. "You've been in a coma for the last two weeks."
Pepa then remembered everything. Dolores had started having contractions. Mariano was in town, doing chores. Pepa and Félix offered to drive her to the hospital. They called Mariano, and he said he would meet them there. Camilo and Antonio rode in the car with them. Félix was speeding, and they swerved into a tree.
"How are they?" Pepa asked. "How are my husband and children?"
Julieta looked over at her mom. "How are my husband and children?" Pepa repeated.
"Félix was announced dead at the scene," Julieta said. Pepa felt her heart stop. Her soulmate, her love, was gone. "Your children were brought in. Dolores needed immediate surgery. We were able to save your granddaughter, but she didn't survive the surgery."
Her eldest baby was gone. "Antonio followed shortly after," Alma explained. Even she couldn't stop the tears from falling. Pepa felt a cloud forming over her head as she let out a violent sob. Her baby was gone. "We kept Camilo on a vent for a week. However, they pronounced him brain dead a few days ago. We didn't want to, but we had to let him go."
A hurricane formed over the Encanto.
Pepa sat in the hospital courtyard. They brought her out here in a wheelchair. She was going to get discharged in the afternoon. She lives with Encanto's best doctor, so they felt good releasing her soon. It had been only three days since her world shattered.
Camilo was an organ donor. Both Félix and Pepa were registered to be organ donors. However, there was nothing left of Félix to donate. Julieta, Alma, and Bruno decided to sign Camilo up to be a donor. Since Pepa was in a coma, they were his legal guardian. Pepa had heard her hijo's heart saved a little girl already.
Pepa heard a thud. A book had fallen right beside her. The book had a weird cover; it didn't even have a title on the front. Pepa thought she was going insane since she could have sworn she heard the voices of her children.
